The bar menu was extensive and there was a solid selection of local beer on draft. The server took awhile to take our drink orders but was attentive from there on out. The kids got pizza, a Caesar salad, chips and salsa, and a chicken Caesar. The pizza was really high quality, much more so than we expected. The Caesar was a bit soggy, and the chips and salsa were pretty standard. The adults ordered boiled seafood. I came to this restaurant because I was told the food was amazing. When we arrived, it was very busy and extremely loud, which I understand can happen. Our waiter was decent, but my experience went downhill after I ordered the shrimp scampi. I specifically asked for no mushrooms, tomatoes, or spinach. When my meal arrived, it had extra mushrooms. I let the waiter know, and he apologized and had it remade. What disappointed me was that there was no effort to make up for the mistake. In many restaurants, when an order is incorrect and a customer has to wait while everyone else at the table is already eating, the staff will try to accommodate the inconvenience in some way. Instead, when my food finally came back, the shrimp was cold. At that point, I didn't complain again--I just ate a few bites. Afterward, we waited another 20-30 minutes for our check. When the waiter brought the card reader so I could pay, my daughter accidentally dropped one of her AirPods. While I was trying to help her pick it up and tap my card to pay, the waiter said, "Ma'am, please be careful with the machine. If anything happens to it, I have to replace it." I found that comment unnecessary and unprofessional, especially since I was simply helping my daughter while paying. Overall, the experience did not live up to the recommendations I received. I stopped by here a couple of days ago for lunch. We were at the Railroad Museum in Galveston around lunchtime when my wife pulled up Yelp to find somewhere to eat and came across the Huli Huli Hut. Since it was Sunday and there were plenty of TVs around the restaurant, you could catch almost any NFL game you wanted. Inside, the place had a laid-back, beachy feel with lots of colorful wall art, wood accents, and a large bar lined with taps and TVs showing the games. For lunch on this day, I decided on the oyster po' boy. The menu offered the choice of fried, grilled, or blackened shrimp or fish, or fried oysters with lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce. Our food took a little while to arrive, but it looked good when it did. My sandwich had plenty of fried oysters, and they were tasty with a breading that carried a little bit of spice. The tartar sauce added some welcome moisture and flavor too. Finally, the fries were excellent, super crispy on the outside, giving each bite a nice crunch. My twins especially loved those and cleared their plates. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. This is a pretty popular hangout so parking is most likely gonna be in the street since they only have eight spots available. There are flat screens all around and a stage for live music indoors. They do have a mixed drink menu, however, there are no prices on it (average $12) and you'll have to scan a QR code for their food menu. On fair weather days they'll have the garage doors at both ends open to allow the breeze to flow through instead of air-conditioning. The only problem with that is that when the food arrives, so do the flies. They have a full bar with available seating and upbeat music playing overhead. They actually have a woodfired pizza oven (so I was told, might be gas fired tho) in the back corner which helped me with my choice of meal. The wife had scallops which came out perfectly cooked and tender. My pepperoni/mushroom pizza was good and something I would order again. Since we got here on a Saturday, there's no happy hour, but their mixed drinks were good, although the alcohol was barely discernible. When it's time to check out on the handheld device, you will be charged a 3% credit card fee on your bill. We had great service and a good time. Was here to try something new for my birthday. My coworker recommended this place so I drove from Houston to Galveston. First impression was this is a local spot. When we walked in we were a little confused. There wasn't a greeter @ the front. Finally someone @ the bar told us to seat ourselves. We then had to figure out to scan the QR code for the menu & a server eventually arrived. I told him this was our 1st time & we were celebrating my birthday. The server said happy birthday, but a nice touch would've been a complimentary something. I wasn't expecting it, but it would have been nice. We ordered grilled redfish with rice & onion rings, chicken wings, bayou boudin balls & fish & chips. Everything arrive promptly & hot, but very flavorless. They give you a decent amount for what you pay, but nope. I guess I'm used to Cajun seafood. The bayou balls & chicken wings had a little flavor, nothing else. Dining experience on 4/18 around 6:40pm: Horrible experience at Huli Huli Hut in Galveston. We came in with a group of 9-11 people and were already on the waitlist. We were not trying to skip ahead. We had been told the outdoor/front tables were first come, first serve, and when my husband asked if we could sit there, a staff member said yes and that the tables just needed to be cleaned. A few minutes later, another hostess came out and rudely told us we could not sit there because there was a waitlist. We explained that another employee had just told us otherwise, but instead of helping, she walked off. A male manager then approached and told us we needed to wait "like everyone else," even though we were already on the list and had only followed what we were told. The confusion continued when our name was called and then immediately taken back because they had "mixed up the names." The kids in our group were also told to move from a picnic table, adding even more confusion. When we tried to get clarification at the hostess stand, we were rudely told to move out of the way. The manager then followed behind me while I was speaking to family already dining there and interrupted to defend himself instead of apologizing or trying to fix the situation. To make matters worse, our name was later called again, only to be given to someone else after the interaction. The entire experience was chaotic, rude, and caused by poor communication among staff. In town for the night before our cruise. Coming from the DFW area we wanted some good seafood. So we set out early enough to get a table on a Friday night. The wait was only 20 minutes max around 6pm. This place is huge inside. We were led back to "garage" area. I wish we would have waited for an inside restaurant table. It looks like a converted garage and the lighting was horrible. So dark that we had to use our phones with light to see the menu. Also live music came in and we were right next to the stage. It was too loud to have a conversation with anybody at our table. The waiter was great and helpful in ordering. Loved the margarita I had. The service was a little slow and we got our appetizer at the same time as our dinner. Now, the Huli fries were awesome! Just wish it was times better. I had the fried seafood platter and it was good. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. We stopped in during a walk about and were met with one of the rudest employees I've encountered in Galveston. We simply asked for a to-go drink -- which is completely normal and legal down here -- and were immediately shut down with attitude. I even mentioned that I work on the island and know the rules, and the employee basically snapped back with "so do I" in the most condescending tone. No effort to be helpful, welcoming, or professional whatsoever. Plenty of spots in Galveston are friendly and appreciate locals and service industry workers -- this is clearly not one of them. Food might have been good, but worst service than any restaurant ever in my 71 years. Was told upon arrival maybe a 30 minute wait, and instead, they still had not seated our party of 8 plus a toddler after almost 2 hours. I was told that the problem was two tables had finished eating and drinking, just stayed to listen to the music. In my experience, after a reasonable amount of time, patrons can be told there are customers waiting and is there anything else they can get you. This even happens at very high end restaurants where reservations are timed. I asked if we aren't getting a table, can we sit at two tables either inside or outside. They finally split us into two tables outside but another 20 minutes just to get water. After another 20 minutes, I had a low blood sugar crash and my son asked for juice. Another 10 minutes and no estimate of when our food would be ready. I asked to pay the bill now with a To go box so I could leave in an Uber. My palpitations were making me dizzy. Shortly, the food started coming with no utensils, no condiments as requested and no bill. I left my credit card with my family who found we were charged 3% for using a credit card without any warning. (I had cash!) and a 20% gratuity for a large group when we were not even seated together. Out of courtesy since I sat at the bar for 2 hours, I bought my family drinks, so another $70 for the privilege of waiting. They really should be honest and tell customers they cannot be accommodated. Dishonesty is bad business. read more

Our server told us to scan a QR code for the crawfish menu, and while looking through it we noticed there was a happy hour menu listed -- during happy hour. Somehow she never mentioned that before we ordered full-priced drinks. When I asked about it, she didn't even know what drinks were included on the happy hour menu. That was frustrating right off the bat. Then things somehow got worse. I asked what a large margarita came in and she specifically told me it came in a fishbowl, so that's what I ordered. When the drink arrived, it was not a fishbowl. I thought maybe I misheard her, so I asked my sister and she confirmed she heard the same thing. When I flagged the server down, she casually said, "Oh yeah, I rang you up for the wrong one, but this one is cheaper." She said it in a way that made it seem like she already knew it was wrong and simply wasn't going to mention it unless I said something. The issue wasn't the price -- I wanted what I actually ordered. The drinks themselves were also extremely sweet and super weak. Then our server became practically nonexistent. We waited an hour for just 2 lbs of crawfish and 6 shrimp. At one point she walked by and said she was going to "check on the crawfish" and never came back with an update. She never checked on us again, never apologized for the wait, and never communicated what was going on. She actually only ever came to our table twice. One was when our order was taken and the second was when she delivered the wrong drinks. When the food finally arrived, the crawfish was barely warm -- not hot and fresh like crawfish should be. At that point I was beyond frustrated. I actually called the manager over because I wanted to complain, but I was so angry I could barely get the words out. All I could manage to say was, "Just bring me the check for my drinks." It was obvious I was upset, and the manager clearly knew it, yet there was no real attempt to make the situation right. I left without eating because the entire experience had already ruined my appetite. I came hungry and left hungry, and literally wasted over an hour of my time for absolutely nothing. To show how bad this experience was -- I was literally writing this review while still sitting at the table and posted it within 20 minutes of leaving. That's how immediately awful this experience felt. Poor communication, wrong drinks, weak drinks, inattentive service, over an hour wait time, lukewarm food, and a complete waste of time. I will not be returning. Had to edit because I see someone left a terrible review on their waitress deja and funny enough that was my waitress. I went fishing at the Galveston pier and someone recommended this place for lunch. They spoke very highly of it so I gave it a try. We ordered raw oysters and fried calamari for appetizers. Both tasted mediocre--not so bad, not so good, just average. For our entrees, we ordered fish and shrimp. The Huli Fish and Shrimp was actually pretty tasty, especially with the white sauce on top. Their seafood seems to be very fresh and seasoned well. The ambiance was very casual. We received pretty good service, too. I would like to come back and try their seafood boils! read more
