Really cute place with very sweet workers and AMAZING food. Fast service and great coffee!

Eating out in a small town can be a challenge for vegans. Not so at the Salt & Light Cafe Bistro. We had breakfast here today I and tried the Open Faced ALT ALT (vegan) plate. Eating first with your eyes, it was colorful and beautifully plated, with very fresh and vibrant ingredients - to include Toasted focaccia, chimichurri, asparagus tips, baby spinach, seared tomatoes, seared avocado, olive oil and topped with reduced balsamic glaze. That, and a mug of their light brew coffee made for the best breakfast out I have had in long time. My husband is not vegan, and he ordered an omelette, which he also loved. The staff was friendly and helpful, the place was clean and comfortable, serving size was perfect and the prices were reasonable, especially considering the fresh ingredients. We will definitely be returning soon to sample the lunch menu. read more

I have had breakfast and lunch at Roots and I can say the food and service are exceptional. Pulled pork was fabulous and wife's beet salad with steak was even better. Highly recommend. Food is definitely not ho hum, and pricing is reasonable. read more

Menu is original and food is consistently very good and clearly made with fresh ingredients. I've been here 7 or 8 times for lunch and always leave with a smile. I've not gotten the pastries from the case, so can't comment on those. Menu changes a bit with the season which I like. Seating is a little eclectic, but the place undoubtedly has charm and personality and has not let me down yet. read more

What a great spot, what excellent food! Groton is lucky to have this place, I've been for breakfast and lunch and both were delicious! My husband had the pork hash which I tried and will get next time, last night I tried the 3 bean and turkey soup and it was so comforting. Their steak sandwich is on home made focaccia and the flavors are outstanding - roasted tomatoes, home made aioli, you get the picture - GO GO GO and you are welcome! read more

Delicious, creative food in a cozy atmosphere! My husband loved the meatball arugula pizza and light, fluffy cheesecake, I was smitten with the subtle tang of ginger in the oh so pretty bean soup, and our daughter enjoyed the banana bread and the spinach feta puffs. I made it in for breakfast recently as well and was not disappointed by the thick sliced French toast and yummy yogurt parfait. The wood and natural tones invite you to stay and linger over a second cup of coffee and the owners are genuinely friendly and hospitable. I left with a full stomach and a beautiful alpaca scarf sold in the owner's discreet but very discriminating in store boutique. Wow what a great job Roots is doing! Atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. The menu offers something for everyone, with plenty of fresh healthy options. My morning breakfast sandwich with egg whites, avocado and spinach was great. Egg whites cooked just right! My daughters over easy egg, also just right, generous side of bacon and thick crunchy toast to complete the plate. I paid $10 for a salad. It was good but the portion size was incredibly small. Like the smallest amount of salad I've ever been served at a restaurant. Looked like it should have been a child size portion. Not cool. read more

I was excited to have a place in the area where I could get a healthy lunch. The food and menu is great. I've ordered some sandwiches as well and they were great.I would just appreciate improvement with the salads. They are not filling enough. Today I ordered a beet and goat cheese salad to go. I added steak on top for protein. The description of this salad on the menu said "Apple-chili roasted red beets, orange segments, radishes, snap peas, arugula, goat cheese, avocado, balsamic, olive oil ". In my salad i found a small sprinkling of arugula topped with a couple beet wedges, 2 orange segments, one strip of radish, two snap peas and a small crumble of goat cheese... I consider myself a person with a normal appetite. After i finished this lunch, I had to eat a second lunch. I won't be ordering a salad here again because for $11, i need something that will actually sustain me. read more

I have not eaten at the cafe yet but feel I have to express my disappointment that you are not open on Sunday. Weekends are the main times friends and family can meet for breakfast and Saturdays are usually too busy. Had planned a big visit this morning and ended up at Johnsons. They got my order wrong, then made me pay EXTRA for the same dish (unknowingly). The food was dry, and I couldn't even notice the salsa that came on it which was next to nothing. There is much better around for the amount of food, as well as price and taste quality, and I will not be back. The kid who got my order wrong apologized profusely, but I got no discount and had to pay more than the menu price to fix it. read more

A great new option for breakfast or lunch in Groton! Freshest ingredients with friendly, fast service! I've stopped in for lunch and ordered take-out for the crew. There's a good range of sandwich choices on fresh-baked rolls but Salt & Light Cafe also offers flatbread pizza, soup and wraps. They serve breakfast, too, with a varied, innovative menu including my favorite -- breakfast sandwiches. No factory processed food here! Prices are reasonable given the quality and scratch nature of the kitchen -- and the space has been upgraded in an upscale casual style. The owners are from town, so they know and understand their customers -- and have created a great, new eatery in the heart of Groton. read more

Have been wanting to try Roots for a while. Groton is very lucky to have this little gem. The ingredients in my omelet were very fresh. Nice to have an omelet that wasn't greasy. The whole wheat toast was hot and crunchy. It's hard to please this coffee-holic, but their brew was great. It will be lunch next time. Can't wait to try the fish tacos. read more

The food was good and it's a cozy and comfortable place. I had pulled pork hash which was distinct chunks of moist pulled pork and red potatoes topped with a fried egg. I wish they would go a step further with table service. I don't mind ordering at the counter, but once you are seated it would be nice if you didn't have to get up again to get cream and sugar or salt and pepper. If you can have cloth napkins, you can put a salt shaker and cream pitcher on each table. A bread plate for your toast would be nice too. read more

Just had their braised pork omelet with potatoes on the side. Not just any potatoes but ones that go threw 3 phases of spices and flavor levels. And it gets better from there. The time and effort they put into making high end food flavors you can enjoy for a realistic price. You can got to Lunenburg or Fitchburg for the same price, but never get the quality or tastes you'd try here. This is a must to try. Get here before Diners, drive-in guys or the phantom nuts do ... you'll never get in after that .. too packed. And they have a real cappuccino machine not just crap coffee. read more

VERY nut allergy sensitive But do serve almond milk and some outside ingredients are processed in a facility that processed other nuts (¿manager/owner came over to explain) with reference to what they can control. Re-vamped in Groton Center. We love Groton Center. Quaint, historic, simple. Roots fits right and and so do it's owners. Great food with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. Much needed updated space creates a trendy and inviting environment. So far we've only tried the coffee (great roast), breakfast sandwiches and home baked goods (muffins got raving reviews from the kids). Definitely plan to come back for the sandwiches on home made focaccia rolls. read more

My favorite in town spot for Breakfast and Lunch. The atmosphere is warm and inviting! There are gluten free baked goods which drew me in initially. Organic coffee, healthy tasty meal choices and of course a full full breakfast menu. Lunch options include but not limited too a tasty array of sandwiches and salads including BBQ and Fish Tacos. I would definitely recommend Salt and Light cafe. read more
