I live nearby, so I stop in every now and then when I'm craving boba in the area. They have some indoor seating, which makes it a decent spot to sit down and study or get a bit of work done. It hasn't seemed too busy the times I've gone, which is surprising given the location. I hope they do well over time because it's such a prime downtown spot and there's always foot traffic around. I'm sure people working nearby frequent this place when they want a fix, and when I go in, it's usually during non-business time hours. Their menu is creative with some unique options. I usually go for the POG agua fresca, and if I'm in the mood for something richer, I'll get one of their ube drinks like the Purple Roots. I have been here twice in the past week LOL because I had such a great time the first time I came. This is probably the most legit boba/milk tea place in DTLA. I feel like it's on the same level as something like Sunright. The place is located across the street from Pershing Square and there are a few street parking spots right in front of the shop. The service is quick so I imagine you wouldn't need to park for too long if you're coming for this, but tbh I don't think I would drive from far away for this. If I was in the area, it's definitely a convenient spot to walk too but just a bit tough with finding a parking spot if it's busy, since it's literally located right in the center of DTLA. The vibes of the shop are really cute and there are a lot of great places to study with free wifi as well! They also have games and sell some small plushies on the side too :) I've tried three of their drinks so far and I am absolutely in love with their Banana Foster Milk, which is made with a house-made banana paste with a splash of rum, also with pandan, coconut, and cinnamon. To be honest, it's a little bit on the sweeter side so I would recommend getting quarter sweetness for this drink specifically. I also tried the Hazel Eyes drink which is made of "organic Hazelnut Milk Snow." Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this drink. I just didn't like it. It felt like I was drinking diluted brown sugar milk tea. Also tried one of the typical fresh pressed teas, which are solid. Nothing too special but not bad. I also love that switching to oat or almond milk does not have an additional cost! wow!! very inclusive :) They currently have a promo going on during the winter season for 15% off hot drinks! The place had some cute decor. I originally ordered a mango cheese foam boba drink, but it just tasted salty. I asked Jeff, the cashier/barista if he could add more sweetness but it became overpowering. He said that specific drink is an acquired taste and offered to make me another drink and recommended the banana foster milk. It tasted refreshing (made with banana paste, pandan, cinnamon, and coconut) and delicious. Amazing customer service. This is a cute little boba shop. Board games are available for people if they decide to hang out here. I got the HK milk tea which was absolutely amazing. I prefer my boba with 100% sweetness and it was the perfect sweetness for me. The drink itself was great. I will say, it took some time for the drink to be made. You can really tell they are conscious about brewing high quality teas that aren't made from powder like some boba shops. All of the purees and flavorings are also made in house, so you are definitely getting quality boba. I would order drinks ranging from Brown Sugar Milk Teas to Lattes, each with the ability to substitute oat milk as a non-dairy option and to control the sweetness and ice. It was a perfect blend each time and the boba baristas even ask to make sure it was to my liking, or that they would remake the drink. I first chose my tea, then milk (if you want), toppings, sweetness level, and ice level. It's very straightforward! There are also pre-selected house drinks that you can choose from as well if you're indecisive. I got an oolong milk tea with almond milk, half sweet, topped with basil seeds and grass jelly. The only complaint I had was that the tea was only moderately strong. If I'm ordering bubble TEA, I want to taste it, and oolong, having a strong, roasted flavor should shine. Parking is now a major hassle unless you come late at night to avoid all the traffic, but even then there are limited metered spots outside and I had to use the loading area for a togo order. Shop was empty when I came but staff was busy making a lot of drinks (probably online order). My order still was made pretty quickly (5-10min). 6/10 Ube Coconut Latte $6 - Major let down. There was pretty much 0 ube flavor in this drink so it was all coconut taste. Not bad but not what I want. Was craving boba in the middle of the work day so my colleague and I ventured down the hill to find this little spot around Pershing Square. It was easy to find, and very empty inside, which was quite nice getting away from the hustle and bustle of LA! The two drinks we got were the Banana Foster Milk (sweetened) and Agua Fresca (less sweetened) from their "Inspired" menu. I chose the banana drink as I haven't seen this anywhere else before and wanted to try something new, and I'm glad I did! I door dashed the OG milk tea, which was BOGO to the Sheraton Universal for two days. It was super good and I picked a slightly less sweet version, but it was perfect. Checked this place out as a last stop before leaving LA, and it did not disappoint! As soon as we walked in the cashier welcomed us and invited us to ask him if we had any questions. He directed us to the kiosk if we wanted to see pictures of the drinks. We asked him some questions about sweetness of the drinks. I was interested in the strawberry matcha, but asked if the fruit compote was enough to sweeten my drink (with the context that I like my drinks just sweet enough to offset any bitterness). Both workers there recommended I add at least 25% sweet because they actually don't sweeten their fruit compote beyond cooking the strawberries down, so that is what I did! We got: * Original Fifty50, 0% sweet, normal ice, with oat milk * Strawberry Matcha Latte, 25% sweet, light ice, with oat milk and pearls The Original Fifty50 was PERFECT zero sweet bc of the condensed milk, and we don't like our drinks that sweet anyway. (I think most people should get it sweeter if they enjoy dessert-like sweet boba drinks, just as a note!) The house made strawberry compote is DELICIOUS, and not crazy sweet like the fruit syrups I've had at other boba spots. They used ceremonial grade matcha (we saw them hand whisking it together), and indeed the matcha is high quality -- you can tell bc it's extremely bright in shading, and also I can barely taste it in the drink I'm still enjoying this drink overall, but the strawberry compote is the star of the show, not the matcha. With high caliber ceremonial grade matcha, it's usually less bitter and lighter in flavoring, so combining it with such a strongly flavored ingredient like fresh strawberries means it probably would get overpowered, like I've read in other reviews saying they couldn't taste the matcha. (This is why bitter, lower grade matcha works better with fruit in drinks.) I'm not docking any stars for this because this kinda just proves they use super high ingredients in every part of their drinks. If I ever come back next time, I'll have to try their matcha on its own! The pearls are nice and chewy, though not that sweet either -- I think bc they serve them fresh (they had signs priding themselves on warm boba). I find that boba that's been sitting longer in sugar or honey absorbs more of that sweetness later on, but points for the freshness and high quality standards! There's plenty of seating here, with seasonal decorations and lights. Also found it very entertaining that they have a work booth for anyone who really needs to put their head down and work or study! Wow! This tea shop is incredible! Not only is the ambiance super friendly and the decor perfectly suited for Melrose, but the teas are divine. The first time I ordered from this shop was through DoorDash. I tired the SoMatcha Coffee and I was shocked with how every flavor profile shined through. I immediately told my friend we needed to go in-person next time. Soon enough, my friend and I came in and we were so happy with our drinks! My friend got the Strawberry Matcha Latte while I got the Original Fifty50 with oat milk and cheese foam. Both of our drinks were freshly made in front of us. We were so happy to have came in to visit because we were able to see how the drinks were authentically made as well as get a feel for the vibe of this shop. One thing I would want to see some improvement on is having more drinks in-stock. I was intrigued by a lot of the menu but unfortunately, a lot was labeled "unavailable". I understand it's difficult with suppliers and limited edition drinks but it would be great to be able to try what's advertised nonetheless. Honestly, this place deserves more hype.
