This is a great Salt & Straw location. Their waffle cone smells floats down the whole block. A line may form, but staff keeps customers flowing. There's a large checkout area and the grab-and-go freezers to the left when you walk in. The same fun, inventive flavors that Salt & Straw is known for are served here as their other locations. They may have haters for their wacky creations but I'm not one. Parking in the area can be difficult (the lot next door has a couple signs forbidding S&S customers to park there) but go north or south of Division and you'll find free neighborhood parking. This is my happy place. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The smell of the shop I could never get tired of. The creative, rotating ice cream flavors each month convince me I need to come back. Oh and did I mention they have doggie ice cream? My dog loves their Apples and Carrots with Sweet Potato Ribbons pup cup and it's only $3.75!!! My favorite thing to get is their flight for $15.50 where you get 4 scoops of ice cream and some waffle chips. And grab some pup cups and pints of ice cream from their grab and go freezer! There's almost always a steady flow of customers going in and out but the staff is efficient at graciously allowing people to sample flavors and getting them checked out. Parking is the only annoying part - street parking - but there's plenty around and it's in a nice, walkable district. Overall, highly recommend! read more

My husband loves the ice cream here. I do have some issues digesting ice cream but decided what the heck the other night. I had my Lactaid with me!! I do love that I can get the child size to have just one scoop. Tasted the cinnamon and liked the flavor but it was very gritty so decided against. Tried the salted caramel which I have had before so went with that. I love caramel but feel that it is a bit too salty like I wanted water during and after. I did taste my husband's brownie something and it was good but pretty rich so not sure I could have had a full scoop. All my personal preferences. They do make really good quality ice cream. My absolute favorite ice cream restaurant ever!! I've now been to the one in Portland, Eugene and Las Vegas and I love that they have their classic flavors and limited edition flavors. Eugene was my first introduction to them. I fell in love with their olive oil ice cream. Their pear and blue cheese is my other favorite. More recently, we tried their lemon Mari gold amaro sherbet, coffee and love nuts, lemon curd and whey, and the black olive brittle and goat cheese flavors. As a lemon fanatic, I LOVED both the lemon options. The black olive brittle with goat cheese is the absolute winner among everything I've tasted. Their staff is always so nice, irrespective of the location!! I found out that they have stores in San Diego where I live!! After hearing so many people rave about Salt & Straw ice cream, I decided to try it out for myself. Did it live up to par, you may ask? Well, yes, yes it did. There were various unique flavors to choose from. Flavors included pear blue cheese, chocolate gooey brownie, coffee nuts, honey lavender, etc. I got the cocoa nibs and frangipane on a regular cone. The flavor is very creamy and "almondy", though on the sweeter side. If you are looking for something sweet, this is a good flavor. However, it was one of their limited flavors that was about to rotate out so you may need to catch it depending on the season. The service was great. The lady was friendly, kind and most importantly, patient with me as I tried to decide which of the flavors to select. I didn't feel rushed which made my ice cream selection experience that much better! read more

I would have preferred Frozen Yogurt to be honest. Asking for different flavor samples seemed like a good idea as I had never heard of these combinations. BLEH!!!! You can keep your honey, hazelnut, chili, swamp grass, curb debris, pond scum, dog breath, orange juice after brushing your teeth, sour cheese, kale, lavender, rotten egg ice cream flavors. It's like the ice cream, commercialized version of VooDon't Donuts. Hype but lack of delivery. There comes a point when trying to be different crosses the line into silliness. That line was crossed and back and forth again so many times it was dizzying. And why? For what purpose? JUST to be different? And please charge even more for these atrocities. The crowd is pushy, rude and impatient. No places to sit comfortably and no where to park within blocks. Only to spend $10 on an overpriced, mediocre product. A great way to please a diverse age of customers is to offer 3 'normal' unadulterated flavors; vanilla bean, chocolate and chocolate mint for those of us over 50 that think that ice cream should taste like ice cream. Save the fufu flavors for younger millennials, X gens and tourists that think they are experiencing an ice cream dream with the goofy flavors. Bring back Farrells!!!! read more

They also have the better than standard chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, and many other sweet options. And their employees are so NICE! i had to come back for this month's flavors because they featured my favorite, almond brittle. i sampled all of the seasonal flavors and this was probably the best lineup they've had in a while! i was super impressed. i am a big sucker for chunks in ice cream so these flavors were exactly my cup of tea. i usually get a kids split scoops if i don't want to decide between 2 flavors but i noticed the scoops looked bigger this time. then when the staff rang me up they said they don't do kids split scoop, so my cup was technically a split single scoop. i'm not sure if this is a new policy or something but i was slightly disappointed to be forced into buying and paying for a bigger scoop? not really sure what happened there but it's fine. i enjoyed my ice cream read more

When we watched travel videos, this is one of the places that the travel bloggers were recommending to try so we added it to our list. We mainly used the Max Train to get around, and their location is quite a walk from the station. There was only a couple of people ahead of us so the wait wasn't that bad. We decided to get four of their limited edition flavors (skipped Habanero which i found too spicy for me after asking for a small sample) by getting the flight for around $15.50 which came out to $3.89 for a child-sized scoop. To me, even though the flavors are unique, it really isn't worth the hype for the prices that they charged for their ice cream. The flavors are okay to me and it really wasn't all that. I did enjoy seeing the trendy shops and Victorian-style houses around the area. Lush and Trader Joe's are not that far from this shop. read more
