Today was my daughters birthday and we visited Salt Creek. I have to say it was the worst meal that I have had in all my life. We didn't want to spoil the dinner but the Steak Frittes was inedible .. We took one bite and left the rest..The fries were so hard you could not bite into them. My husband had the tuna tower with so much wasabi he almost choked to death on it. Our bill was $300. and we could have had a better meal at Mc Donalds. Never never again.. Save your time and your money, there are many many better choices in Monmouth County.. Maybe Ive eaten here too much?? Im just not as high on salt creek as I was when the first opened in 98 or 99. Ive been to brunch, hapy hour, dinner and communions, and its still very good. I just feel like they have lost a step from when they were firing it out around the turn of the millenium. The brunch to me is still their high point. Our waiter was extremely pushy, asked if any of us were on yelp (something no waiter or business has ever flat out asked....especially at a "fine dining" establishment.) He then made us check-in, and offered a free appetizer for doing so. That was maybe okay, but what isn't okay is that he then throughout the meal proceeded to remind us to review the restaurant and specifically mention his name because " it really means a lot." At the end of the meal, he even mentioned his daughter getting a boob job, but how he really needed money to support her in college. One of the worst restaurant experiences I have endured in quite some time. Free valet parking was nice -- very easy. We were seated quickly. Beautiful room with a great river view. The trouble started with the waiter. I asked about one of the specials, and he gave me a rude condescending answer. I can let that go -- perhaps it was unintentional. More trouble was brewing, however. We had been at the shore all day, and went through the first glasses of water quickly. I could not flag down a server for refills, so I went up to a server and asked if I could have a pitcher (there were 4 next to her). She said "no," but said she would bring water over. When she finally did (two minutes later), the water was either dirty or somehow mixed with iced tea -- that was the color (brown). She also had a very angry look on her face -- very angry, seemingly about having to bring the water. I can even venture to guess that she had poured bustray juice into the pitcher or something like that. Our server then came by, and I pointed out the brown water to him, and he never apologized or said another word -- he just removed the glasses of brown water and later returned with new waters. He was obviously angry, and was not capable of handling his few tables. Then, he went over to the server station, and we could see that they were talking about us. They didn't even try to hide it. After the meal was over, I went to the manager to complain, but he could've cared less. He even went as far as to challenge me on some of the points that I was making. They also failed to bring two of the desserts that we paid for, but by that time we just wanted to get out of there. Food was average to poor. Bread was okay. Salads were good. Steak was good. Prime Rib was tasteless; stuffed pepper was bland. Scallops were good. Shrimp pasta was good. Chocolate Souffle was average -- was like a very moist cake actually. To their credit, they did not add an 18% gratuity for our large party, and we took advantage of that by tipping very little. Neither I nor any members of my party will ever even consider eating at this place again. The staff obviously could care less about the customers. read more

Salt Creek has become one of our favorite local restaurants. They have EARNED and maintained this distinction visit by visit, meal by meal. At first it would seem a pretty cliched place - blessed with outstanding waterside location you stick in a decent bar and typical American fare food and that's all you need. They could get away with phoning it in. I think the first time we showed up we were not expecting much and just a decent pub meal and a drink in alcohol service challenged NJ. However, this restaurant again and again simply delivers a top-of-class experience in both the food quality and the service. We've had a variety of dinner and lunch dishes over the past couple of years, originally going with the steaks and fresh fish - all the real deal, good quality and well cooked. Now we've settled in to a semi routine of their burger and the grilled romaine salad. It's pretty telling when you take simple items and continually take the care to deliver a best-in-class product. We live a carb-free lifestyle and so get their burger -usually the stuffed blue burger - bunless and substitute a fresh vegetable for the fries. This is I think the best burger in the area. It is genuinely flame-grilled with a perfect char and every single one I've got has been perfectly cooked. Such a simple wonderful thing. They have a choice of delicious fresh vegetable preparations. I usually get the sauteed spinach and again - so simple, some fresh spinach, garlic and oil - but always perfect and delish. The grilled romaine salad is yet another case of simplicity being elevated to perfection. Wife and I always split a large and this always comes out perfectly divided on two plates. The romaine is always totally fresh and perfectly charred on the grill. The dressing is luscious and then the kicker is a very generous amount of shaved excellent quality Parm (?). It really is perfection and consistently one of my favorite restaurant dishes in the area. The service at Salt Creek is also extremely well done. We've never had a bad service there and the waitstaff is genuinely warm, friendly and efficient. The bar service is outstanding. They pour a great martini and the wine choices are well done and well priced. Pretty much every day of the week there is some deal going on with cheap wine on Wed and half price premium martinis on Thursday. I've been twice, my husband has been three times! While it has an upscale vibe its not stuffy at all, which is underscored by the waiters attire. I have yet to be disappointed in my food, or drink selection. My favorite is the coffee-rub steak! Half price wine bottles on Monday are a great excuse for date night. While the food is good, the proprietor "Biddy" B. is an extremely rude, crass person. Beware of the valet parking service. They caused damage to a vehicle at a Bridal Shower we were holding there and refuse to resolve this problem in an ethical manner. I came here last Saturday with my in-laws and we were warmly greeted by the valet service. upon entering the restaurant, the hostess was also cheery and sat us down immediately for our reservation. We were placed in a horseshoe booth and had a great view of the water. I was really impressed with the service thus far and our waiter did not disappoint. Anthony was warm, inviting, and on point with his recommendations and service. We had a variety of things for dinner and everything tasted and came out beautifully. Of note, I really liked the goat cheese marinara for appetizer, but it is quite a lot of food, so I'd recommend ordering it only for parties of 4 or more (or if you're really hungry). It also requires you to construct it, which I liked, but just FYI. The ribs were fall off the bone good and also quite a lot. My mother in law and sister in law shared that and even threw me a couple bones. My french dip had a great baguette and the dip was fantastic. Love Salt Creek Grill! With this being somewhat of a chain restaurant, I must say the quality, taste, and service is top notch! My husband and I have come here numerous times for happy hour and the free food and discount drinks can't be beat---our bill after ordering a beer and 6 sangrias (in which I highly recommend the white sangria) came to under $37. Although we are advocates of their happy hr, we have also dined there for dinner numerous times and have never been disappointed. More like 3.5. Would have given 4 but I woke up the next day with stomach issues. Parmesan garlic bread was delicious as was the shrimp appetizer wrapped in bacon. For entrees we had the short ribs, vanuted "best pork chop on the plant", and pulled chicken sandwich. I loved the short ribs but that pork chop was definitely overrated. It was overcooked beyond belief but my dad not one to send food back just ate it. Sweet potatoes and mac and cheese were good. Pulled chicken sandwich was tasty. I came here quite a few years ago for breakfast buffet with an old friend of mine and loved their breakfast buffet. Last summer, a friend of mine brought a friend of hers and suggested we go out for dinner, so I thought of this place as I had heard it was a good place to eat for dinner. We wanted to sit by the window which the hostess wouldn't give us, we were disappointed as we made reservation to sit by the window until a waitress learned about this, she went ahead and moved us to where we wanted to sit, bless her heart (don't know why the hostess wouldn't seat us as there were some empty spots). We ordered our food, we all agreed that our food was way toooo salty which ruined our appetite and none of us could finish our dinners. I don't understand why some chefs put too much salt on our food when we can easily add it ourselves. We all agreed that we will not be back for dinner, only for breakfast. read more

Coffee was requested twice for the final arrival. food not bad for a buffet style but not great either. My little one came back with a Cannoli that had one little string of filling in side.
