Somewhere between fast casual and sit down, but with prices closer to sit down. We had a couple of their microbrews, the chicken sandwich and the pork and peaches sandwich, both with fries. The fries were the best thing. The beer was okay. The sandwiches were "meh". There are so many restaurants serving WNC/Appalachian cuisine here in greater AVL and compared to most of them, this one is forgettable. Which is a shame. We had such high hopes. We love The Twisted Laurel. The food is top notch. I would never compare this place to The Twisted Laurel. Hard to believe they are run by the same people. What happened? My recommendation: go to The Twisted Laurel in Weaverville and have a much better meal. Then walk down the street to Leveler, Zebulon or Eluvium and have a much better beer than here. read more

We are always looking for new places to visit that have both of our favorites, food and good craft beer. Well this place was close to our cabin and it didn't disappoint! After a day of hiking we stopped on our way back. The food and beer selection was fantastic. The menu had a variety of farm to table, soul food. Extremely flavorful and delicious! Welcome to the neighborhood! We love your aesthetic and enjoyed the tropical IPA and Smoked Chicken Salad. Loved the pickles and pickled okra/onions served with it as well as arugula and sliced bagette. It ended up being a meal for us! We saw old friends and will be back for a round of putt putt soon! We stopped here on our way into town for a bite to eat wanting to also try a local brewery. You order food and drink at the bar and they will bring it to the table. The food was AMAZING! I had the shrimp and grits (with leftovers for breakfast the next day) and my husband had the Anarchy burger. I had a custom flight and my husband ordered the Kolsch, which he really liked. I tried the pilsner, tell us, and weisse. All were great! One of the bartenders checked on us and suggested trying the weisse with Woodruff added. I was skeptical but thought I'd do a taste of it. It was delicious! She described the Woodruff as a marshmallow type flavor, I thought it had a hint of vanilla, which it not something you would think to add to a beer, but it truly is worth trying and much better than I expected! We got a chance to chat with Kyle before we left and decided to get a crowler of the Kolsch and Mosey over Pilsner (eat of our faves) for our VRBO in Asheville. They have mini golf here too, but we wanted to get to our VRBO, so we were on our way after the great food and beers! Salt Face Mule opened up last week. Typically, I would expect the usual hiccups that go along with the first couple of weeks of opening a restaurant. Those hiccups weren't evident when we went on Sunday evening. The restaurant was packed. There was a good mix of family's with kids, couples without kids, and parties of one. The lighting was great and so was the music. They have outdoor seating, seating inside, as well as bar seating to watch the games. Overall, the environment seems like it could offer something up for anybody who might walk through the doors. I had the meatloaf sandwich, my wife, the chicken sandwich, and our 2.5 year old had grilled cheese. The flavors were great, and I could tell the quality of ingredients was high. I saw a review saying the fries were too hot so I was worried about my son eating them, but they weren't spicy in the least bit. He crushed them, which doesn't happen often. The only complaint I would have would be the price of the food for the portions you receive. It wasn't an overwhelming amount of food at all, but the prices were pretty high for the area. Overall, I believe we would definitely go back, but perhaps not any more often than any other restaurant in the area. read more

I wish they allowed half star ratings. I'd give SFM 3 1/2. The beer is only ok. I have had 6 different beers and nothing to write home about. The interior is your typical larger brewery with large stainless steel tanks to give the authentic brewery vibe. But it is very loud. It is very kid friendly so that's a plus for those with kids Food wise it's hit or miss. The smoked wings were only middling. Twisted Laurel the parent restaurant down the street makes outstanding meaty wings. I'm surprised they didn't use the bigger wings and smoke them for this place. However, they burgers are very good and I highly recommend. A bonus is they have a 36 hole mini golf course. It's set up to enjoy your beer while you golf. They also have bocci as well. If they can pick up their beer game I would give it 41/2 stars. read more

Pretty fun location if your looking for a more urban feeling brew house. There's lots of corners to niche into, sports games on the bar TVs, nice shaded patio with long tables, put-put of course. Always a nice hum around and the service is on top of it. Haven't put-putted yet! read more

We planned a trip here on our vacation with our family of 9. We had to wait at the bar to order our food. Then pay in advance. You have to get your own drinks, silverware, condiments, etc. When we finished eating then we were expected to bus the table. All of this and a 20% tip. The food was good but I'm still in shock at the lack of service. I will never return there. read more

I visited with excitement Salt Face Mule for the first time today. I love brisket and ordered Brisket Mac and cheese. Food came out pretty fast however there were only a few tables around 2 pm. Unseasoned Mac was swimming in water. The brisket was shredded and soggy as if it had just been thawed. I took one bite and asked for a refund. For $18 it should have been extraordinary. 10/10 experience. I visited on Saturday night, expecting for a long wait. My food was at the table within ten minutes! This is an order and then sit down restaurant, with great inside and outdoor seating. My favorite thing about this restaurant was the customer service! All of the staff was extraordinarily attentive, friendly and I had so many people check in on us and provide us with whatever we needed. If your are looking for a family friendly place to have a beer with nice outdoor space this is definitely a good option. Beer was good $7, so normal these days. Staff was all friendly and attentive. Fries are decent. Food in general was basically a joke. If you're looking for a $15 mediocre snack get some. My wife got a burrata, friend got a plowman's platter I got the pork and peaches sandwich. Wife's said vegetarian on the menu, I came with a big scope of bacon jam instead of whatever it said it came with on the menu. They fix it by scraping it off along with the veggies it was touching and replaced missing veggies and incorrect jam with NOTHING. my friend had a plow man that didn't come quite as described don't actually remember what happened but we had a laugh about it. My Pork and Peaches was described as a pulled pork hoagie with peaches. It was served on a nice hot dog bun with about 3/8" of the driest pulled pork I've had in NC, maybe ever. Had absolutely NO peaches or peach flavor. Just a pathetic, miserable $15 sandwich. When I inquired about the peaches the waiter said he told the manager they need to change the name. And their $12 mini golf course is pretty lame and boring. Long story short I will probably go back for beers but I will never eat there again. We visited last nite to celebrate our daughter-in-law's birthday. There were 12 of us at the big table. I don't drink , but everyone else said the beer they had was awesome! We all had different meals, and they were all very tasty. The staff was very friendly and helpful also. The only problem I found was that the sweet tea was not very sweet. Small fixable problem. Wife & I stopped by for a beer & ended up getting fries also. The fries were so spicy my wife only ate 3 or 4 before she got all the heat from them. I ate a bunch using my Stout beer to help cool my palate. When we went to pay & told them they were too hot, they said they hear that a lot. The beer was a House stout which was not very flavorful. Wife and I stopped in for lunch while waiting for check-in time in our airbnb mountain cabin. The place is super clean, bright and inviting. Our lunches were excellent and the hospitality/service was outstanding. There was a room full of putters and golfballs, along with other merch, which we were puzzled by until Kyle (our amazing host) told us about the TWO put-putt golf courses out back. We expressed an interest in playing a round so not only did Kyle comp us the round, but he let me use his own personal Taylor Made Spider putter to play the round. That was some stellar hospitality on Kyle's part, since he told me he doesn't even let his workmates/partners use the Spider . . . ever! If you are one of the folks who work with Kyle and don't get to use his putter, all I can say is he must like me more than you. Great Brewery - can't wait to go back! read more

I ordered lunch, and when my food was delivered I realized not all of it was there. When I asked the food runner she checked with someone and the. Told me they would not be bringing me the rest of my order. Although I didn't have a receipt I knew i paid for it as i repeated the order several times and it was repeated back to me. Either way, we were in a group outside and I didn't want to get up in the middle of our meal to dispute this, so I just let it go. Plus the food I did get was not great so I just left. We enjoyed a great dinner and drinks with friends in a very relaxing environment. Our non-beer drinking friends enjoyed the other drink options that aren't available at some breweries.
