Full disclosure this review was for last year, I did not notice it was still in draft mode. Walked in a bit on the late side but glad to see they were still serving food. The restaurant was not too packed which actually made it possible for our waitress to spend some extra time with us. The decor is not much to look at but the food was delicious. I ordered the beef stew, my gf ordered the fish and chips and my son had the burger. Everything was cooked really well and packed with so much flavor. The beef stew came with mashed potatoes and it was so hearty, I probably should have gotten a smaller portion but it was all good We definitely enjoyed our meal so much that we were not able to finish it all because of the large portions. Towards the end of the meal they signed us up to play a raffle game based on whenever the team playing scores a touchdown then they raffle off free prizes which by the way I won. Lucky me I won an 8piece order of wings which I had to tKe to go because I was so full. Overall we enjoyed the place and would definitely recommend it. read more

I've been here multiple times with friends because it's a convenient meeting spot in the middle of town, but the food disappoints every time. Their much-touted brussels were completely unseasoned and were not fried long enough, so they were raw and hard in the middle. We were amazed at how something that was deep-fried and covered in bacon and cheese could taste so bland. Their uptown tater tots also suffered from being underseasoned, and were soft instead of crunchy. I've had better tater tots from a hospital cafeteria. Their wings and burgers are fine. They get the job done, but don't expect anything you couldn't get at a Chili's or Applebee's. I admit I haven't tried any of their Irish food so maybe that's where they excel. I think a large part of why this place is still here is because of their location and the fact that there isn't much else in the center of town to choose from. They also have a decent beer selection, which is why we keep coming back with friends even if the food is terrible. Service is hit or miss. My first couple of visits, our waiters/waitresses were great. When I went back a few months ago, the hostess (middle-aged lady with curly red hair) completely forgot about us, and my friends and I ended up waiting and waiting for a table with no end in sight. When we realized that they were seating similar groups of people that had arrived long after us, I checked in with them and instead of getting an apology or any kind of acknowledgement that they messed up, the hostess just shrugged and said our name wasn't on the list (despite the fact that I had watched another hostess/waitress write my name down when we arrived). When I expressed frustration over the fact that she still made no move to seat us despite the mix-up, she became rude and defensive. Bad food and bad service? Hard pass. I can eat their bread! Lmao. Got their burger bc it had no high fructose corn syrup. Love music, happened to be live music and the guy they had playing music for Fourth of July was pretty good. He had great songs (mostly bar rock music) but my kind of music for a bar. Good drinks, well made by bartender (made to order). Waitresses are friendly and had no problem checking for the things I may be allergic to in the food prior to my order. To me that gets a lot of respect. Some places, they are rude and just straight up say "don't take chances" without even asking the chef or reading labeled. Burger came out Amazzing!! So flavorful I didn't even take a pic before starting to eat it lol. Came with fries that were so perfect. Not too salty. Husband said his bangers and mash was "f-ing incredible" lmao father in law got the flatbread that was delish as well. Also, Celtic egg was off the chain. Big big compliments to the chef of this bar. I'm a hugh fan of this Irish Pub everything our party ordered was excellent from the Rueben sandwiches, grilled chicken salad, Celtic Eggs, Guinness Stew and especially the fried brussel sprouts with bacon bits, seriously the best! The only slight disappointment were the onion rings a little to over cooked and greasy but the the flavor was okay nonetheless. Just ok. Some real winners on the menu, but drinks and service tough. Reuben sandwich, Guinness Beef Stew and the Chili were all winners with great flavor. The Mac and cheese, dry and bland. We had two different servers. One was pretty good, the other a nightmare. She admitted she was being very lazy that day. Ugh, not great. Tried a couple of cocktails...the cucumber Gin fizz and the Jack and tea. The Jack and tea was incredibly sweet, almost undrinkable. My fam had dinner here last Thursday before going to see a play nearby. It had a bit more of a family vibe to it than I expected for a pub, which is not necessarily a bad thing; just an observation. I tried a bowl of the chili and it was pretty tasty, but not at all spicy (no hot sauces on the table, either) and a little light on the toppings. My family tried this place out for the first time yesterday. We all came away with a slightly different experience. The service was fine, but the food definitely was a mixed review. My son tried a special hamburger that was basically a patty between two grilled cheese sandwiches. He said it was bland and after tasting a bite, I had to agree. The grilled cheese sandwiches tasted too much too much of butter and not hardly cheesy at all. The burger hadn't been seasoned with any salt or pepper so the overall taste was toasted bread and butter and bland burger. His hand cut fries were also like warm. I asked him what he would grade that burger and he said "C-". My wife tried the pub's version of a shepherds pie. She said it was not even hot. Traditionally, a shepherds pie gets broiled to brown the top of the mash, but this had received no such love. I tasted of this, too, and found it to be just okay. It was well on its way to cold when I tried it, but the first thing my wife said was that it was not even hot and barely warm when it hit the table. My entree was the winner. I ordered fish and chips. I opted for the hand cut fries (there was a choice of fries or sweet potato fries). The portion of fish (haddock) was big and the chips were more than plentiful. HOWEVER, the chips were barely warm. They were just like the chips on my son's burger. The fish was crispy and the breading wasn't too heavy. It's was pretty much a perfect beer battered filet of fish. The fish also wasn't greasy. How we the chips really were too cold. We all surmised that the food must've been left waiting to be delivered and that's why so much of our food was not hot. I would only go here for fish and chips. But I would send lukewarm chips back. I'm glad I checked out the Salt Hill Pub, when I came in there was live music! My friend and I split the Mac and cheese and a burger. The burger was amazing and I highly recommend. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the Mac and cheese, it just didn't really taste like anything, it redes a little bit more cheese and salt. The portions were fantastic great if you want to try a few things on the menu! My last point is to upgrade the the Parmesan fries so delicious! read more

Solid place to enjoy lunch in Lebanon, nice outdoor seating per the weather. Great selection of beer. The service was friendly and just the right amount of attentive. Our family of four enjoyed the "specials" pretzel appetizer which was accompanied by cheddar beer dip. For meals we had pulled pork nachos with black beans, pot roast with mashed potatoes, a cheeseburger with homemade fries, and cavatappi Mac & cheese with ritz topping. We haven't been here in a while, but ate here quite a few times over the years. Went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary, and it was a letdown. Ordered the fish and chips, which was good, though came with very few fries. But the steak tips were inedible , too tough to eat, so they got brought home for the dog. Add in the fact that the dinners came out in shifts, so one of us ended up finishing before the other entree came out. Not a good look, Salt Hill. Our server was very pleasant . Once seated it took a 1/2 hour to be seen by a server who seemed to be extremely overworked. We sat at the bar, Megan was very attentive and made sure we had anything we needed. She was a joy to have behind the bar. As a local we've been here several times in hopes that it was just a fluke but alas that isn't the truth. Everytime the service is absolutely abhorrent and borderline rude. The food is subpar at best, Cold and just put together sloppy. To call themselves an Irish pub is to call Pope Francis Jewish. For better options in the area try the soup kitchen. read more

I really didn't want to review as we're still dealing with the covid, but the kitchen should still be up to par, and our experience fell Really short. We shared a steak and cheese sub and a large chili. Steak and cheese came out cold and was flavorless, as though the meat was boiled, and the fries were cold and did not taste fresh. The server replaced them but they were not improved at all. The manager came over after a while and ended up taking only $2 off. Really? It ruined the whole outdoor dining experience. Super disappointed. Found this place on Yelp.. saw a lot of positive reviews, plus it was a verified venue on Untappd. Got there and ordered a Berliner Weisse. They brought out an IPA and insisted this was the beer I ordered. We went back and forth until I settled on just keeping the IPA (in the waitress/bartender's defense the can section of the beer menu was worded strangely). The waitress did eventually offer to get me a different beer but it wasn't worth it. We ordered food, and when it came out I didn't have the right side. They fixed this for me. A friend ordered coffee with dessert and they brought out a cold cup .. and then stated they were sorry because they were "known for their beer not their coffee" but she brought out a fresh cup. The waitress did discount my beer which was nice. Must've caught the place on a bad night, wrong beer and wrong food ... but still OK beer options and the food was good. We were here for a weekend away. After reading such great reviews and seeing the pub was in operation for a long time, we decided this would be where we would our launch our vacation. We were sorely disappointed. The menu said "fried onions" in the Verda Mae burger, so my fiancé said hey, if that's fried onions like raw onion pieces that are fried on the grill, I don't want them. He had to rephrase four times because the server wasn't sure what he was asking. I had to jump in and say "anything that's an onion, raw or cooked, do not put it on his burger, please!". She finally says "okay, so the onion ring on top is fine?" And we said yes. He has his quirks. I asked can you cook burgers medium? She says yes, so I order the Jake burger (has a fried egg and bacon). I substituted onion rings for the chips or fries. Nowhere on the menu did it say all burgers came with raw onions, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Yes, they sent his burger with the raw onions. It was also very dry and there was no hint of the A-1 sauce they listed on the menu. My burger came out with a hard fried egg (what?) no runny yolk which is the point of doing the egg. My burger was so dry I couldn't even swallow it after chewing for 2-3 minutes on one bite; I had to sip my drink. It was also well-done and nothing near medium. The onion rings were gigantic, but they were so over-breaded it was like eating an onion doughnut. The batter was also sweet, it tasted like slightly-less-sweet funnel cake batter. The manager was nice enough to take my food off the bill and offer me a free desert. I didn't want to take my chances on another food item. I was on my last night in the area having just completed a guest teaching stint at Dartmouth College. I was hungry and thirsty and found Salt Hill.Pub in Lebanon. It's right in this little cool downtown a half block from city hall, in the main square. I sidled up to the bar and was immediate greeted by the owner. He suggested a beer and it was on point. I went to the menu and locked onto the chili...wait! They have a stuffed baked sweet potato that you can do with the chili?! Yes please! Giant serving and delicious blend of textures and flavors with the sweet potato, tangy chili and crunchiness of the fresh red onion on top. It's served with a side salad and HOUSE MADE bleu cheese. As usual, service was great on my last visit, on a Sunday. Food prices are through the roof and entirely unfair; so eat at home and come here for a drink if you must. On my visit, everything was ruined when the management, for some reason I cannot divine, turned the place over to people who wanted to watch a European soccer championship game. The management turned up the TV volume to an ear-splitting level. I stayed for ten minutes, hoping that things would turn civilized again. They didn't. My ears have not recovered after several hours away from the "pub" (seriously). This reinforces my feeling that the place is not at all like a pub in Ireland (I've been there) or, for that matter, in any other civilized country (I lived in Europe for fifteen years). As I say, the service is great, with friendly, intelligent, and hard-working men and women eager to please. Too bad they don't work somewhere with reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere. read more

I had the Firehouse sandwich. It was tasty but nothing extraordinary. Bread was typical of what you could get at Whole Foods. The portion of meat was eh, ok. The in-house potato chips were not better than Kettle brand chips. While I didn't drink beer here, I could see the draft selection was average for an "Irish" pub: Harp, Guiness, Smithwicks, plus a couple US microbrews (Harpoon IPA plus one other). A perfect "find" for me, while in town visiting an ill family member. On both occasions, I was allowed to sit in a booth despite the fact that I was on my own. It was pleasant not to be shunted to a tiny table in a corner, as sometimes happens with solitary diners. I'm always thrilled to find Smithwick's on draft, and ... no kidding ... I've just finished the most delicious burger I've ever had: cooked perfectly for me (which is barely), with blue cheese crumbles. Carrie looked after me very well, with good humor and efficiency. Outstanding. Near perfect. Great atmosphere, comfy seating. Good menu selections including non-meat items. We had fish & chips, which were outstanding. Good service. They were out of some of the IPAs which was unfortunate. Music was scheduled for later in the evening. I would have loved hearing this. I don't see much Irish music, this would add to the atmosphere in my opinion. But the canned music was good and fun. I loved the T-shirts worn by many of the staff with BE ER from the (chemistry) periodic table. Clever and fun. We purchased one for our son-in-law-to-be who was a chemistry major. Many TVs all turned to sports channels, without sound, and this didn't detract from the experience. I can easily imagine watching the big game here. Fun atmosphere, great for anytime.
