Salt Hill Pub is the move every time we're in Newbury. It's literally right across from the Hideaway Inn where my wife and I stay every year, so it's become our little tradition. Perfect spot for lunch or dinner, staff is always so nice, and the manager even came by to check on us--like actual small-town kindness vibes. I got the fish and chips which honestly stood up with some of the ones I've had in London. Excellent food and great service. Opted to eat off resort and glad we chose this place. The food was delicious - we got the chipotle burger that was cooked perfectly and the fried chicken mapler sandwich that was excellent with the bacon and maple syrup drizzle. Service was great, the waitress greeted us promptly and seated us, she was quick to take our order and checked in regularly. This salt Hill pub, across the entrance to the Mount Sunapee access road, is an old standby. With the Mount Sunapee pub at the resort closing earlier than the local banks, Salt Hill is the best après ski in the area. It does get crowded. It does get noisy. Sometimes the music becomes a pedantic country slag that seems to transport the customer to a Waffle House in Picayune Mississippi. But wait a minute and Grateful Dead tunes come to the rescue. It is definitely a fun place. And best of all: Best fish and chips ever. We have been here at least a half dozen times this past ski season. Service has been good to very good, oftentimes you have to give it some slack with the crowds. But always efficient and courteous. Our last visit here was right during the closing weekend at Mount Sunapee. With a soft snow on the ground, we came over here pretty early in the afternoon, and found plenty of space. We had a great time testing some of their local , microbrew selections, brussels sprouts which were exquisite, and of course, I had the fish and chips. Everything was superb. My wife and I had dinner at SHP. I had the meatloaf sandwich with potato salad. She had the orange chicken with quinoa. The sandwich was packed with delicious meatloaf and the bread was nicely grilled. The sautéed onion on the sandwich was spot on. My wife and I couldn't stop eating the potato salad. It was the best we've EVER had at a restaurant. She really enjoyed her dinner too. It was a very busy summer night but our waitress took good care of us. Wasn't expecting great food, but the stir fry was disgusting. Mushy and drenched in sauce and little protein. I will say our waitress was nice and attentive though. My boyfriend went up to the bar to ask to put a hockey game on and the bartender was rude and shrugged him off as he was speaking to her. The food was definitely overpriced for what they serve you. Really bad. French onion soup was terrible. Instead of soup with a baguette or crusty bread and melted gruyere, it was nasty brown sandwich bread with what tasted like provolone. Barely melted cheese. My child ordered sliders. It was a cheeseburger cut in half. So little care and attention to the food. Caesar salad was decent. Large pretzel was good but the sauces were very average. To me, this place seems like someone just doesn't care. Probably why it was mostly empty at 6:30 on a Saturday night. I love this place for what it is - an Irish tavern! There isn't a cocktail menu, but they can make whatever you want and they have lots of beer on tap. The wine list is meh, but again, Irish tavern. I ordered the salmon which I was worried would be bad but it was excellent. My husband had a Rueben and was able to order gluten free bread (celiac) and had no issues. My son got the kids meal fish and chips and it was plenty big enough a portion for an adult - and was delicious. I saw the adult portion and it was served on a damn serving platter. So glad I ended up here for dinner because I was staying at Bluebird Sunapee across the parking lot. Anyway. Delicious food. Great drinks. Wonderful atmosphere. 10/10 read more

We have been to a Salt Hill before and were craving the giant tots, so we stopped in to Newberry location. A young lady waited on us. We both ordered a beer. Hubby's came right away, mine was AWOL. when hubby's was almost gone, the manager brought my warm beer over with the bar tab still stuck to it. Clearly it had been sitting on the bar the whole time. We then ordered the giant tots only to be told they don't have them anymore, (total bummer) so we got a pretzel. The house mustard is really good. We then waited 38 minutes for our waitress to come back by to take our order. (Only four tables had people at them and there were two waitresses working). Drinks long empty, pretzel gone, but still no one stopped. Finally she arrived and we ordered. Hubby ordered a Ruben and I ordered the hummus plate. She then came back and told me they were out of hummus. What? Damn. Now I am in a panic because if she walks away, I will never get to eat. I quickly try to remember what was on the menu and I order wings and a side salad. Food was good. We needed salt, hot sauce and beer, but she never came back by. I have no idea where she disappeared to, because when I got up to go to the restroom, there was no one in the rest of the restaurant. Not sure we will be back unless we just sit at the bar. They used to serve hand cut fries, no it's more like cafeteria fries, I felt like we were eating at a cafeteria by the food quality. We will no longer be coming here. I feel like the only times I wind up at Salt Hills are when I get stuck at them. This was no different. Was trying to find a different pub and the directions were wrong, so ended up here only because it was visible and we were hungry. Similar to all the Salt Hills, the ambience is very good, the food decent, and the service, Sloooooow. 15 minutes at least until the drinks came and when we finally asked to order (had to flag down a different waitress), we were told to wait 2 seconds (second time told to wait 2 seconds). Stopped into Salt Hill Pub after a long day of skiing on Saturday at Mt. Sunapee. Pub has a warm feel, perfect example of what a sports bar should be: good cheap beer, excellent bar menu options (try the nachos!), with plenty of TVs. Service is great, service staff is very nice and welcoming, easy place to go after a ski trip! Only reason for a non 5-star rating is noise levels, as sound bounces off the walls and sounds quite loud at all times. Would very much recommend after a long day of skiing, will certainly be back! read more

Stopped at Salt Hill the other evening. We are locals. I understand the restaurant industry is having problems finding staff, the bartender was overwhelmed, she had to bring orders to tables around the bar and take drink orders for the entire restaurant. Service was sub par, I had to ask for a glass of water 3 times. I understand this, the purpose of this review is about the food. We ordered Loaded Nachos. This menu item was - in the past - well done, spicy and full. The Loaded Nachos the other evening was not good, there was little to no cheese, I specifically asked to exchange pork for chicken, this was not done, and in fact, chicken was "added", I don't care for pork. There was no flavor, we did not even finish them, I would expect more attention to preparing, clearly it was made a few hours ago and was just heated up. Not impressed read more

Just got back from the salt hill pub in Shanty in Sunapee New Hampshire, they had a two hour blue session outside which was lovely. We did share a dinner of risotto and Cajun shrimp which was very disappointing. It was advertised on their special of the night as a shanty size meal for $18 so we ordered one to share, thinking it would be large. The risotto was only about a cup and the shrimp which were tasty, was about a count of 10 small Maine shrimp. Dinners around us looked bigger if you were looking for a burger and fries, but I would say skip the fish there or at least on the special menu. Every Sunday they do a blues two hour session ,there is no fee to get in, so that is a good deal. And I'm sure some of the food is better than what we had. read more

Went here with our family tonight. It took 45 minutes for the food to come out. It was raining and my daughter had a droplet of rain fall on her from the leaky sky light window. Overall our food was good, but the waitress was very slow and didn't take care of us very well. My wife asked for mayonnaise for her burger and it didn't arrive for about 15 minutes. Next time we will head to Newport and eat where we know we will have a good time. read more
