Really enjoyed ourselves. Food was pub fare but a few steps above average. Pulled pork sandwich was the best I've ever had! Burger was fresh and cooked just how we asked, and my friend enjoyed her tuna steak sandwich. The french fries were hand cut but mine weren't fresh out of the fryer, warm and a little hard. I read some of the other reviews here. I have a feeling that some of them are referring to the Salt Hill Pub in Sunapee. I've been to the one in Newport NH many times now and have never had a bad experience. The food, the drinks, the bar tenders and waiters/waitresses are all TREMENDOUS and ATTENTIVE. The prices are great too. Now, about the S.H. Pub in Sunapee. We went there once. I gave them a little understanding because it was second or third day that they being opened. IT WAS AWFUL! Loud, VERY slow in serving, food wasn't great. So different than the other one in Newport. I really did chalk it up to just opening and still working out the kinks. I would give it another try. Whether you're looking for casual or romantic, it's a nice place to bring family or a date. It has a quaint down stairs dining area, but if that's not what you're looking for there's always the bar upstairs for something a little more upbeat. Great food and an overall great atmosphere! Everything about the Salt Hill Pub is top notch! I've been to both Sunapee and Newport... service is always phenomenal... the waitresses are always so friendly and personable. The food is amazing! Very mediocre pub food. Restaurant was on the chilly side and food was indifferent. Fish and chips was greasy and the chips just seemed old. Son complained that pulled pork sandwich was salty. However the Guinness was excellent. The server also forgot my daughter's chicken tenders which arrived at the end of our meal (no apology). We come to sunapee a lot but not here again. read more

Stopped here on the way home from a bike ride on a hot summer day. The angry orchard cider on tap was cool and delicious and much appreciated. We decided to go for main meals. Ron got the New York steak with mashed potato and vegetable and I got the haddock milanese without the roasted red peppers, mashed potatoes and a Caesar saladThe haddock was baked perfectly and seasoned just just right with a sprinkle of cheese and bacon. The mashed potatoes were sublime. The Caesar salad was OK but a bit heavily dressed and a little soggy. Ron's steak was cooked perfectly and of a very good quality. Again the mashed potatoes were the bomb, and the seasoned vegetables tasted great but were a little overcooked. As a final note,our waitress was one of the nicest waitresses we have ever had making suggestions and always there when we needed her. This is probably the best restaurant in the town of Newport. We eat here often. The Irish country pie is my favorite as well as "The Jake" - Great burger! They also have a very good selection of beer! Worth the trip for sure. Oh and the fries are REALLY good! Never have room for dessert so I can't tell you that is good or not. read more

Started off in a freezing cold atmosphere, seated at a filthy table, to which the hostess promptly cleaned. Simple early afternoon order of nachos and potato skins. Due to the cold atmosphere, both items were ice cold in a matter of minutes. Server seemed completely overwhelmed and annoyed at us for dining. Not our best visit in recent history. read more

I visit the Salt Hill Pub every summer and checked the reviews before heading there for lunch yesterday. I was shocked at the negative reviews because we have always found it to be a reliably delicious restaurant in the Sunapee area. We were not disappointed at lunch yesterday. My personal favorite splurge - the fried scallops - were as delicious as usual (remove the fried coating and the scallops are sweet and tender). The soup tasted yummy like homemade and wedge salad was a generous serving and just as one would expect. The draft beer was cold and refreshing at the happy hour price for lunch on Monday. If the food is microwave fare like some of the critics say, then it sure is good. read more

Every experience I've had here has been pretty good. The staff is usually very friendly. I've enjoyed the few things I've ordered, and my boyfriend enjoyed his Jake Burger. Probably the best chicken fingers I've ever had personally were here lol. And don't get me started on how delicious the potato skins they have are as well. We're in the Newport area 1-2 times each year (visiting from PA) and always make a stop here...and have never been disappointed. The food has been reliably good. Our most recent visit, I had the Irish Country Stew which was accompanied by a nice side salad and would order it again except I'm always tempted by other menu items. We were up in the bar area, on the second floor, for the first time. We had three little ones with us and, though it worked out fine, I would suggest waiting for seating on the first floor if you have kids with you. read more

I was on a business trip staying at the lodge next door. I was told the salt hill pub was a good take. I stopped in, very friendly workers, poured me a couple of nice local pints, had the full rack st Lewis ribs. Very nice pub atmosphere. The food is really good, especially liked the fish part of the fish and chips. The breading on the fish is so crisp and tasty. The fries were a bit soggy, and I would definitely order the fish with the home made potato chips which are delightfully crispy! Drinks were good. Service could have been a bit better. Our waitress was friendly, but did not check back with us or ask us if we wanted a second drink with dinner. I will definitely go back again read more

This is our family's goto place when we're in the mood for burgers and beer. Their burgers are great, the service is good and they always have good beers on tap as well as "guest" beers in bottles. Full bar, too, in case you want a shot of Jameson to go with your beer. Also, I've never gotten sick after eating there. I don't eat out at many places because of this. read more
