My favorite salon in Ventura. Freddie is always so friendly and he knows who is coming in and out of the salon on a daily basis. He personally greets everyone he can. He or someone else on the staff always offers you a beverage when you arrive to make your visit more pleasant. The salon is a pleasant combination of bright and airy yet also warm and inviting. The furniture in the waiting area is just lovely. They offer great products and are always happy to talk to you about what you might need and what could work for your hair. Went to Freddie's salon today to do my hair with the wonderful Trinity. Walking in the salon was beautiful and clean and took all precautions especially during COVID. Trinity was absolutely amazing and did an amazing job! I asked for a little trim and some layers to frame my face. I was scared because I have not had a haircut in YEARS but Trinity made me feel so comfortable. She explained each step and executed exactly what I wanted! My hair was so soft, silky, the length was perfect, and looked beautiful. Could not be happier with my hair and will be in Trinity's chair again really really soon! read more

Ahhhhhhh...this is everything a salon and spa should be. I first came here to treat myself to a spa pedicure because let's face it nail salons aren't really that relaxing. Destinee did my pedicure and she was so sweet. The pedi was perfect and one of the longest-lasting I've had. I mentioned to Destinee that I had been thinking about lightening my dark hair (a scary prospect). The owner came by while I was getting my pedi to look at my hair and make some suggestions and recommend a stylist. Caitlyn, the recommended stylist, came by, grabbed an iPad and showed me some pics of what she thought would work. I set up an appt. with her and came back later for the cut and color. Caitlyn was lovely and I was very happy with the cut and color that she did. it was a long appt., and she always made sure I was comfortable and had something to read and to drink. Yesterday I had the pleasure of getting my hair colored and cut by Hector ( he also does my waxing and facials). Hector does it all and may I say very, very well. Love my visits to Freddie B!! The booking process at Freddie's is easy as pie. You can find appointments online, or book by calling. I booked online most recently, and it was amazing seeing my time options and days. When you arrive, Freddie, Hector, or Destinee will greet you with open arms! Tea, cucumber water, or coffee is offered every time. I feel like a long lost family member. My stylist is Christine Coultas, and I couldn't see myself with anyone else ever. Once you find your person... You stick with her! Christine is sweet, professional, HILARIOUS, but most importantly she makes my hair look fantastic every time. I have long, fine hair. This summer, she highlighted my hair using baliage, and while I looked like a goofball with cotton and Saran Wrap in my hair, it ended up looking FANTASTIC. To this day, I haven't re colored my hair, and it's grown out natural looking and subtle, yet noticeably bright. My haircuts seem effortless on her end, she snips away and laughs with me like I joke about depressed clients, weirdos with bad hair, and Ventura "nightlife." We have a blast together. I'm so happy with my haircut, I truly can't imagine going to anyone else. To further my point, I will mention my ex of 4 years works here, and I am totally willing to risk a run in for the beautiful haircuts Christine constructs. I had no idea how wonderful hair extensions were until Stevee put in some for a photo shoot I had scheduled. I was "hooked" and immediately bought my own. Suddenly my hair was transformed from fine, short and ordinary to long, luscious and feminine. They are so natural - no one would even know the hair is not mine. Stevee is amazing! Everyone here is SO nice. The lady I talked to on the phone to make the appointment was very helpful and sweet, and when I got there a hairdresser actually came over to me, asked who I was and said the people I was there to see would be with me shortly. The owner then came out and brought me some water, which I thought was really great. This was the first time I'd ever had a massage and Matt was amazing! He not only did a great job with the massage, but he also gave me some stretches and breathing techniques to try to help minimize my stress so I don't end up tensing and creating more pain for myself. The massage also didn't seem very routine, it was very customized to where my pain/stress was. After my massage I had a mani/pedi with Hector. They use only OPI products here, which I loved. It was the best mani/pedi I've ever had; I loved being able to actually have a conversation with Hector the entire time and just in general everything was awesome. The owner then brought me some tea while I was having my pedicure, which was like the cherry on top of an awesome experience. I will definitely be back! :-) read more

As a Ventura native and returner who has gone to a handful of salons throughout the city, Freddie's is the place to stay. I've had my nails done by Hector multiple times and hair done by Holly for a (recent) smoothing treatment, and returned tons of coloring. And I have to add that the front desk staff and Freddie himself add a particular warming, homey feel that is unparalleled. Their coffee is so yummy and treats are fantastic if you need a snack! Hector is so detail-oriented and gentle with his services, I can't go anywhere else for my nails. The knowledge he has and shares as he's doing your service is so professional and useful, and he's creative to the utmost level. Holly is extremely patient (I've changed my color so many times with her due to my constant need for change!) and never said "No, we can't do that", despite some of my strange ideas. She's calm, collected, and always finds a solution to find a way to give you the service you want. Not only that, but her quality of service is fantastic. Worst Salon experience ever! This is long, but worth reading before you go here. As you will read in most reviews, you are treated like family here. It's all cucumber water, pampering,and hugs: until something goes wrong. Then Freddie turns into a completely different person. I moved here about a year ago and before that I began searching online, reading reviews, and making calls. As you can see, this place gets great reviews, so I called. Freddie picked up the phone and took the time to answer my questions. My color process isn't the most basic, I'm brunette all over, except on top which is completely gray, and I'm colored a very light blond. This takes two formulas, one for the top and a different one underneath, which is a little darker, so I brought my formula with me. The first person who did my hair did a great job, then she left, so I set up an appointment with Freddie. He called and recommend Shonti, who I was told was the best with blondes. The first few times my hair turned out great. The last time I went I realized my color had been on a long time. I'll admit I didn't look at my watch, but I could just tell. I got up to look for her, finally another employee went to get her for me. I told her the color underneath looked darker (I've been getting the same color for over five years) but she told me it was just oxidation. She immediately washed out the color, which told me she hadn't been paying attention. Also, whenever I've gotten my hair colored, the stylist checks it after about 15 minutes, and the formula says to leave on 30-40 minutes. I hadn't seen her once. I will say that from what I know, leaving it on a little longer doesn't necessarily change the color, so I guess she might not of mixed the color correctly. After my hair is blown out and lightly curled, it hangs by my face and I can't see the color underneath. At home, when I pulled my hair back into a ponytail, I saw that the underneath color was darker and more red. I called and spoke to Shonti, who offered to fix it. I didn't feel comfortable with any of her suggestions (one was to tone it, which would make it darker) I asked if after fixing it, she would be able to go back to my formula, but she wouldn't directly answer. I initially made an appointment, but decided to ask for a refund plus the price of getting it fixed somewhere else. I wrote a letter to Shonti including pictures. It was actually complimentary, saying how much I liked Freddie and the Salon, and that Shonti was nice and professional. The only negative remarks were that I didn't feel comfortable with her ideas to fix my hair and didn't want to see anyone else because I was told she was the best. I received a call from Freddie a few days later. It was a calm, professional conversation, but he refused my request. I called back a couple of minutes later to say I would come in for a consultation in person, but he said I had shut the door with my letter, and could not come back to the Salon. I was so upset that I decided to take them to Small Claims Court. I have never gone to court before, even during my divorce. It was really about the point, I figured I only had about a 50% chance of winning. On the day of court, we had to exchange our evidence. It turns out Shonti is also a Law student, and her paperwork was very professional and detailed. We went in front of the judge to give our statements. During this, Freddie said he had made me an offer of $65.00. I don't remember this. I do remember being surprised that he did not try to negotiate. He also told the judge I could've seen someone else, and said he did color as well. I reminded him that I had made my initial appointment with him. The judge decided in my favor. He did decide that she had to pay the full amount. I really didn't think that was fair. Even though at most salons, the stylist are individual contractors, I felt she was heeding his advice. He was also the one who called me to follow up on the letter, refused a refund, and when I called back told me I could not come back. We both received a letter from the court stating the judgment and time limit for payment (30 days) I confirmed with the court that the letter had been delivered. She did not pay. It wasn't a lot of money, but might've been for her. She could've contacted me to arrange payments. Obviously, being a law student, she knew the rules. At this point I could've taken her back to court automatically, which would have added $100.00 to the judgement she had to pay, (there are no appeals allowed in Small Claims Court) and she would've had to take time off. In spite of the horrible treatment I received, I wrote her a letter giving her another chance to pay me and save the extra money. I received a check in about a week. Since Shonti is pursuing a different career, she probably won't be there much longer, but I feel Freddie influenced most of these decisions, which come from the top in most businesses, so trust me when I tell you, don't go here! read more

My then-fiance and I were in town and needed a few things done. Mani-pedi for her, great haircut for myself. Based on the reviews, we chose Freddie B's, and are very glad that we did so. From the time that we walked in the door to when we left, the experience was top-notch. They offered a choice of teas/lemon-cucumber water/etc while we waited, and were right on time with the appointments. The owner also happened to stop by, introducing himself and asking a couple of questions about our needs. Allie cut my hair, and she was very thorough. It was arguably the best haircut that I've ever had, and many people have commented on it. She did a scissor cut, which is more difficult than clippers/other, and also handled the texturising scissors with expertise. My fiance had her mani-pedi done by Hector, who spent a great deal of time & effort making things perfect. His technique takes longer than some, but there's a reason - everything is done correctly, and looks great. We were offered additional tea, water, and a small cheese & cracker tray by the owner himself. Checkout was quick & smooth, with the hostess following up to ask how everything went. I can't recommend Freddie B's enough, from the atmosphere to the quality of service, and everything in between. When my hair needs cutting again in a few months, we'll probably take a ride down there and visit again. read more

She genuinely listened to what I wanted and what I didn't want, interpreted my scattered thoughts, and made wonderfully helpful suggestions and ideas. My heart is breaking a little bit that we are moving out of state and my visits to Freddie B and my most excellent colorist Shante, will be over.. sigh. I moved back to Ventura County last year and getting my hair done just right was a HUGE deal for me.. I have this wacky ultra fine, curly sorta frizzy hair that I want bright orangey red- (what can I say? It's my signature color).. NO I don't want to come out looking like a soccer mom, no I don't want my hair to look "muddy" or pink or blond or flat, or fade in a week or have the color bleed all over my pillow case and towels- and yes all of the above has happened over the past 10 years.. enter Freddie b and my beloved gal, Shante! My first visit I swear she took an hour JUST going over my color, strategizing with me, discussing, planning 'cause that is what it takes people, to get my turning grey hair into something I like. She NAILED it! WOW what a great job, she really knows her stuff, because face it,my hair is like a terrible chemistry exam, every. single. time! She is most excellent.. she ended up doing a three step process, foils, base, and glaze.. then she did a fabulous cut.. I have never walked out of there unsatisfied!!! I am seriously thinking about flying back every 5 weeks just to get my hair done. That is how great this stylist is.. oh and Freddie b the place? I called at 3:15 wanting to get a haircut last minute and Freddie was very nice and said it would be no problem. Came in and he knew he I was, offered me water and was very kind. My stylist came over almost right away and we did the initial consultation and she understood exactly what I wanted. Got a nice relaxing shampoo and she did a great cut! I cut 6 inches off and Freddie grabbed a chunk of my hair off the ground and put it into a hair tie and a little bag, which was nice because it was a special moment for me. I visited this salon a few times for a cut and style-also got members of my family to go there. It was okay-the stylist was not really getting what I wanted done, but it was an ok cut, so I lived with it. The last time I was there, I was a few minutes late-I had called, letting them know this and offering to reschedule if it was a problem. No, no-don't worry about it. When I arrived, the guy at the desk was very rude and hissy with me-and this continued throughout my cut and other services there that day. I was kinda blown away by his bitchy comments, as was my husband--and we have not returned, nor have our friends. Moral of the story: be straightforward with your clients-don't say that everything is great and then do the bitchy thing and ruin a relationship. Because ya did. read more

After a lot of extensive research to find the right salon for me and that knew what they were doing I found Freddie b. I walked in there and immediately everybody was so nice to me and they offered me cucumber water and it tasted really good, I can't even tell you how friendly the staff is. I let Brooke do my hair and she is the nicest funniest person ever , I was also on the fence and confused about how to lighten my hair but Brooke helped me get the correct Thought amd we ended up on the same page, she did a really good job on my hair, it looks healthier and longer and it looks really nice and everybody is complementing me on it, alI I need now are my extensions which is great because I love going to that salon so I don't mind going back to get them styled inserted :) ps.
