It's basically a seafood restaurant where first had to try a cup of Clam Chowda. The chowder had great flavor and very delicious. I then ordered the Fish Sandwich with the fish blackened. I was looking for a spin on it or something to blow me away but it was pretty standard, a little pricey but I'd bet it's for the quality. I'd definitely go again to try some more options! the best place i have had seafood at in austin. first, the stafff was incredible. i hate coming into restaurants close to close, and we came about 45 minutes before (leaving about 10 after close - i felt so awful) but you wouldn't have known it from the incredible service we received. we had the crab cake as a starter with bread, and every bite of it was incredible. i had the tuna and street noodles, and it was genuinely the best grilled tuna i have ever had. the flavor and texture was so good. my friend had the scallops, and although i am not a scallop person, these were seasoned and cooked perfectly. drinks were great and not too pricey. genuinely nothing bad - i just didn't really like the super bright environment. felt like hospital lighting lol, and it was a bit cold. 4.5/5 stars - such a gem. read more

Had the chance to recently go for dinner and I must say it was an overall pleasant experience. This restaurant threw me off because for it being in the Zilker/Downtown-ish area, the capacity is massive! I was shocked to see how many tables, booths, bar tops, and bar seating there was. We didn't have a reservation yet we were give the thumbs up to go take two seats at the bar if we didn't feel like waiting for thirty or so minutes. Once we grabbed two seats, my friend and I took a glance at their menu and we quickly realized there was still time to enjoy their happy hour. Their prices are pretty damn good for a HH and throw in this economy, you're making the most for your buck. Dollar off oysters was a super nice touch and they had specials on select drinks and appetizers. Since we were seated right next to the shucking station, we were able to see the oysters closeup and read their handwritten descriptions. This was so appreciative because one of their oysters featured had more of a creamy corn node to it and I wouldn't have enjoyed it. They feature oysters from all over and they ranged from buttery to salty and gritty. Our server was pretty nice and did a lovely job checking in on us time to time. Not so much that it was overbearing but just enough that we might have needed to flag him down only once. I'm taking a look at the receipt during their HH prices and this is what I found... Steamed Mussels $10.00 Bread & Butter $5.00 Kickin' Pineapple Nojito $5.00 512 Cocktail $11.00 Crudo Plate $15.00 East Coast Oysters $34.00 Their bread was thick and voluminous and was nice to nibble on or sop up the broth from the mussels. Their mussels were so good since that broth was very nicely seasoned. My least favorite was probably their crudo but to be fair it's hard to compete in Austin with such a large foodie scene. What really stood out to me though was their focus on zero proof cocktails / mocktails and how well priced they were. My Nojito had a nice touch of jalapeno and gave it that extra punch. All in all it was such a nice dining moment and I must say this place is definitely able to accomadate large groups or families with kids! read more

I tried the birria fish tacos ($18), ceviche, and calamari! The birria fish tacos had a burnt cheesy exterior that made it a little difficult to cut with a knife and chew. I think the fish and birria stew flavor would have stood out more without the cheese. While some bites of the taco had no fish, the ones that did were yummy! I liked the soup it came with to dip. It tasted like a tomato beef broth, but I'm not sure exactly what is in it. The ceviche was delicious! Very zesty and lime-forward. I liked the calamari too. Crunchy and paired nicely with the mayo! The server was friendly. We waited around 20 minutes for our main entrees. The appetizers came out faster. The inside of the store is beautiful! It reminds me of pottery barn. read more

It's been five months since my last visit here and once again I came back with a group of coworkers for dinner. This time we had the larger enclosed room off to the side instead of the smaller open space off to the other side. This room can hold about 40 people comfortably and sealed off from the noise of the main dining room. Everything that hit the table was 4 to 5 stars and the service was equal to it. What more can you ask for other than good company? We kicked things off with a round of fresh oysters - perfectly chilled and briny, just as they should be. Stopped at this location for the first time this week. The same quality food and service I've come to love from their Round Rock location! This space is a bit bigger indoors, no outdoor seating. The restaurant was clean and well kept. The food and service was fast. And our waiter was incredible with the kids (4 and 7). He had several magic tricks that they are still talking about! I noticed that the bar area was very neat and tidy. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. She explained the different oysters and made some food recommendations for us. I stopped by Salt Traders for lunch, and both the food and service were excellent. I had the wood-fired red fish as an entrée and the seafood gumbo as an appetizer. Both were absolutely fantastic. The red fish was perfectly cooked--moist, with a great mixture of potato, onion, chimichurri, and garlic underneath that really brought the dish together. The seafood gumbo was also impressive. The roux was rich and flavorful, and the sausage and seafood were top-notch. Even the okra, which I can usually live without, worked in the gumbo. Service was excellent--attentive without being overbearing, and everything arrived at just the right pace. Ate dinner here for the 2nd time with my wife. Ten minute wait to be seated was no big deal on a Friday night. Love the side room, which had a gire going in the gas assisted fire place (which is high quality, real looking fire). Salmon nigiri for each of us start. Tasty, fresh tasting. Then grilled oysters, served hot, with a delicious andouille and garlic (?) sauce. I had the snapper collar -- lightly breaded/fried, a challenge to eat but just the right "zingy" spice and worth digging at to get to the tender fish. Cioppino was great. Full of seafood and a full-flavored tomato-based (with onion) broth. My wife had a fish called "skate," a flaky white fish that was served piccata-style, which she enjoyed. Great server, Sasha (?). My husband and I visited this location to celebrate our anniversary over the weekend. I am so glad we chose to go here. Everything about our experience was truly amazing. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We were seated right away. The restaurant is very open inside with plenty of seating. We have a toddler so ordered food right away for him and it was ready in a few minutes. My 2 year old demolished the fish and chips so, I'm assuming it was yummy. I ordered the house salad and grilled fish tacos. There was more than enough food. The portion sizes of the entrees are perfect. The tacos were very flavorful and filling. Yes, Austin has good seafood. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Salt Traders Zilker is a nice open space with a New England vibe. There's plenty of wood throughout, along with a nice bar in the middle. There's plenty of seating, from high tops, booths, and tables in the back room. 1 Star. Service - Weird. Our server was trying a little too hard. Some of her jokes fell flat, and it was just a little awkward. I think she did a find job; I just didn't feel comfortable. It was weird. 1/2 Star. Food - The menu rotates several oysters from the East Coast. Unfortunately for me, I didn't order any. Instead, I opted for the Nashville Hot Fried Oyster Po'boy. First of all, this dish should not exist. I mean, do you really need to make a Fried Oyster Po'boy "Nashville Hot"? Except - it was kinda works. The fried oysters were plump and well-seasoned. The roll was soft, toasted, and the remoulade was tangy. I asked for more to dip my fries in. The only drawback is it would have benefited from an extra oyster. Guess it was truly Po'. 1 1/2 Star. I love Jack Allen's but this concept bombed for me. No desire to return. Even the desserts- looks were deceiving. Particularly the key lime. You'll find better in the H‑E‑B freezer. Oh the grilled oyster! Over seasoned with a lot of grainy Dijon mustard. How lazy! Whats up chef? Taste buds gone with Covid? Smoking too much? Going for texture? Came here last Saturday for my Mother-in-Laws birthday, her first time here. We thought they had a brunch menu, but only 1 item on the chalkboard really was a "brunch" item. The Lobster Poblano Crepe, which was huge and delicious. $18/bottle of Mimosas on the weekend, is a nice way to start. Everyone found something on the menu that they liked, including the King Crab Nuggets that were so fresh, they hadn't even made it on the menu. Oysters, both Gulf and PEI, were wonderful, scallops had a tad too much soy sauce for my taste. Crab cake, fish and chips, shrimp and grits, and Mac and and cheese were also well received by all. Then lobster rolls lacked a bit of butter. The Brirria Fish Tacos sounded intriguing to hubby, but the jury is still out of he would order them again. So from the moment that I walked into the place, the vibes and energy in this establishment was great very welcoming very calm. I really enjoyed my time here. The waiters bartenders and waitress that we had for our large group were extremely accommodating to anything that we asked for and needed, the food was by for some of the best food that I've had an awesome Texas in a long time in Austin Texas in a long time! I've been here a few times, and I haven't had this type of experience not to say that I've had bad experiences, but I've had lackluster experiences when I've been here before, but this occasion was amazing! Went recently to grab a quick bite and a drink while I waited for traffic to die down. So definitely not a full meal review. Quick notes I sat at the bar. Seats were open but not two many was around 4:30pm Bartender took drink order within decent amount of time. Easy whiskey drink Had the happy hour oysters and tostada both were good. Was surprised that they didn't off crackers or hot sauce when they dropped off oysters. Had to flag someone down. Which took a bit. Thought was just oversight but noticed other folks at the bar hadn't been provided crackers either. Ambience Was ok I guess very loud with tons of conversation between staff. Like I was talking with a friend and could hear complete parts of staff's conversations about people in the restaurant. (I assumed were staff that just clocked out) Over all it's a great spot to grab a quick bite to wait for traffic to die down but I don't think I would venture to this restaurant on purpose to have a fun night catching up with friends. read more
