If you're a fan of seafood, I highly recommend checking out Salt Traders! They have a large menu offering a variety of different dishes, some more casual and some fancier. During my visit, I ordered a variety of oysters from the raw bar to share with my husband alongside the shrimp and lobster roll. I was super impressed with everything I had. The oysters tasted really fresh and their cocktail sauce here was tasty. The shrimp and lobster roll was different from what I've tried from other places because the filling was cold instead of warm. I thought this change was refreshing and was perfect because it was a hot day. Service here was exceptionally friendly! Our server would check up on us often and was super conversational. I appreciate all the recommendations she shared alongside being really thorough when telling us the difference between the different oysters the restaurant offered. I'd describe the ambiance here as elevated casual.

After a long day of swimming in Austin I was craving oysters and after doing some looking around, I stumbled upon salt traders. I had never been, but it was really close to where I was at, so I gave it a try. First things first, this a beautiful location with lots of seating at the bar and throughout the restaurant. The service is A1, I sat at the bar and was very impressed with the team's chemistry back there (especially while training someone new, they were spot on). The drinks were wonderful as well, very refreshing and lots of flavor. I enjoyed a yuzu & lavender sour & a grapefruit margarita and was impressed with how flavor forward the drinks were while still having a great boozy after effect. Also, I know traditionally oysters aren't usually a thing that you enjoy during the months that don't have an R in them, but I have to say salt traders definitely defied that "rule". Hands down some of my favorite oysters I have EVER had; I enjoyed the Va Va Vooms from Maryland and the Demariscotta Oysters from Maine and still haven't been able to stop thinking about them (it's been about a week or so now & I'm already planning to go back)! I also enjoyed the torched scallop nigiri, the daily crudo, and the salmon plate (that Dijon bbq sauce was craaaazy good, I'll have to order an extra serving of the sauce on the side next time I enjoyed it so much). Lastly, this place has an amazing happy hour, which I noticed fills up fast. Highly recommend going to Salt Trader's if you haven't yet. Great spot for solo dining, with your partner in crime, or bringing a group!

It's a Jack Allen restaurant. I love that they keep up with the tradition of the chip and dip to get you excited. This one has crab in it though. YUMMM. My pasta was delicious except the seafood (lobster and shrimp) was overcooked. Pasta and sauce was great though. The fish and chips was a large portion and the fries came out perfect. The oysters from New England were tasty. Our server had a really cool name and was friendly and attentive. It's a large place with lotsa seating and not that busy on a Tuesday evening thunderstorm.

The oysters were pretty good. Had fresh and clean taste. The sauces that come with them had the right kick to elevate the flavor. However, I didn't really enjoy the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. It was nicely presented, but there was a slightly off flavor that didn't quite work for me.

On our first visit, we ordered several dishes and particularly enjoyed the Gumbo, Seared Scallop Nigiri, Salmon Crudo, and Fish & Chips. The service was excellent.

My husband and I shared the fish and chips... I ordered a side salad.

Visited here for the first time on Memorial Day... my family and I had a great time. The atmosphere was pretty busy and the servicewas exceptional. Our food was really tasty especially the fish dip!

My sister's a pescatarian now so we have less options for going out to eat dinner. This neighborhood spot we always drive by, so it was to cool to finally try it. We went on a rainy Friday at the tail end of happy hour. The restaurant wasn't that busy but there were folks in all serving sections. We got seated next to a large family but they left soon after we arrived. We had the smoked fish dip and cajun butter shrimp to share. Both were okay, I almost preferred the dip & chips because there weren't enough shrimp. I had the scallop risotto, tried a bite of the red fish daily special, and had a couple bites of the shrimp and grits. I didn't feel like any dish was spectacular, but I wasn't disappointed either. I'd say this spot met my expectations -- we probably won't come back though.

We came here for a happy hour (3:30-6:30 T-Fr) as they have $5 off all beginnings and discounted oysters. Here's what we ordered: 1. New Orleans BBQ Shrimp - tasty and a pretty big portion with freshly grilled bread 2. Steamed Mussels - another bigger portion app that had a really nice white wine butter sauce 3. Grilled Oysters - these were excellent and I could've ordered many more portions 4. Clam Chowda - bowl was a big portion and super filling so could've probably just done the cup. 5. Shrimp & Grits - this was just ok in my opinion. We've had way better 6. Lastly ended with the creme brulee which was good but the topping of white powdered chocolate (?) and sorbet was such a weird pairing and did not go well. Overall this would be 3.5 stars. Nothing here that I'd crave and want to come back for but not a bad meal either. Convenient location next to so many offices and Westlake, and plenty of parking.

This place is really nice when you walk in they greet you and are very helpful. During lunchtime and dinner it can be a rush hour. If you could make a reservation go for it I'm not sure if you can. I haven't looked into that. We went because they were hosting a teacher appreciation Day and we're giving us teachers free meals. I have been hearing in the past for their seafood food boils and they're delicious as well. I chose the blackened chicken Caesar salad salad without anchovies and I have to say it was delicious. The chicken was so fresh and perfectly grilled and the dressing was just very nice. My friend got the crispy shrimp bowl and I tried it and it was delicious. I literally just mixed it all and it was phenomenal. I also wanted to try some of their oysters. Those were not on the menu for teachers, but they were very well priced, and I have to say they were delicious. They were not fishy. They were not grainy. They were just perfectly silky and a little sweet. Overall great place they were so sweet. They kept thinking us for being teachers. They even gave us a cute little apple. I definitely would keep coming back here since our food is really good.

Great food and perfect for families! We went with a group on an early Friday night and were a bit nervous since we were with a stroller/infant but they were very accommodating and we saw multiple other families. We shared the large seafood tower which was good but a bit underwhelming for the price to be honest. The rest of our dishes were great and so were the drinks. We would return!

Ask the Community - Salt Traders Zilker

Is there any outside dining for Happy Hour at your Zilker location? LW (Thanks) I

No, there is no outdoor dining at Salt Traders.

Are there gluten free menu options?

    Oysters are gluten free!

Any vegan or vegetarian options? Didn't see a lot of fresh veggies on menu.

Your right, they don't really have vegan or vegetarian options. I only remember grilled asparagus...and that's it. I wonder if they could make a vegan salad for you though, most of the time the wait staff are willing to go the extra mile and make…

We're flying in for the weekend does anyone have stone crab on their menu?

Your best bet would be Trulucks at either their downtown or Arboretum locations.

Are there patio / outdoor seating?

They only have a couple of small tables outside but yes!

Is it kid-friendly? Do they have a kid's menu?

I didn't see kids on the menu, but they do have oysters.

What times and days are happy hours here?

Monday's 3:30 until -10. Tuesday - Friday 3:30 until 6:30. $1 off drinks and $5 apps (plenty to fill you up)

The seafood was not good. Not "not my favorite," not "a little off" -- just plain not good. The menu was also bizarre in a way that felt less creative and more like someone lost a bet and had to build a restaurant around the leftovers. And if you're looking for anything dairy-free or gluten-free, good luck. The options are basically "no" with a side of disappointment. It is not family friendly at all, with no options for children. Our waitress was super attentive and did a great job answering any questions we had about the menu. We started with the calamari and BBQ shrimp. The calamari was cooked well, but I felt like it was missing a little something flavor-wise. The green sauce tasted more like a salsa, and I think some extra seasoning or even more lemon would have made it perfect. The BBQ shrimp was SO good!! The bread that came with it was amazing for dipping into the sauce. The sauce definitely has a little kick to it, so be prepared if you're sensitive to spice! For drinks, we tried the Shipwreck Spritz and Sea Mist. The Shipwreck Spritz was so refreshing and genuinely tasted how a beach house smells if that makes any sense lol. The Sea Mist was also really good and had more of a spicy/refreshing flavor. For our mains, we got the fish and chips and wood grilled oysters. The oysters were super flavorful, and my fish was cooked perfectly. Similar to the calamari, I just felt like the sauce with the fish and chips could have used a little more flavor. There is better. There is worse. It is never bad. b) Pete's boiled Cajun shrimp is completely lovely. I would eat this over and over again. Since Pete's is near my house, I intend to become a regular. c) Cajun seafood is much easier to eat in a restaurant than at a food truck. This is because the final concoction is wet (due to the boiling stock) oily (because the oils make things taste good) and bright red (because of the spices.) You are looking at a dry cleaner's dream. In a restaurant you get solid plates and bowls to eat the good stuff in. At Pete's you get a Styrofoam container to hold the mess. This is like using a cotton bag to take home red paint. Fortunately, the slosharound stayed within the plastic bag the Styrofoam container was placed in. Be sure to order boiled potatoes as your side and save two or three to the end. You will need them to put out mouth emergencies. e) The non-emergency bites are wonderful. Having to put out fires with potatoes is a fair price for a meal with a lot of taste thrills. * * * Thumbs up for the seafood. Double thumbs up for the potatoes.

Everything was cooked to mouthwatering perfection, just unbelievably tasty! The gentleman was so nice and straightforward, he really knows what he's doing. I asked him for his input on the sauces, he gave me an honest answer and recommended the honey Cajun to me, and I'm glad he did! He did inform me that the drink fridge was down so all the drinks weren't cold, I thanked him and told him it wasn't a big deal. I'm glad he was honest. It is a bit on the pricey side, but if you're looking for amazing seafood with nice big portions, this is the place to come to! I will definitely be back

This review I dug up is from a while ago, things may have changed…read more January 2020 was my first time at Loro in South Austin. My companion and I went at 5 PM on a Thursday. There is a parking lot that was pretty full but not completely. Once inside, we took seats at the back bar where a buddy suggested we sit for faster service. We had menus and water within minutes, and our bartender was attentive the whole time. We ordered a mix of dishes that had been recommended and a couple more: Oak grilled Snap peas, Coconut scented Rice, Chicken Karaage, Tomato and Cucumber salad, Smoked Prime Bavette Plate, Smoked Beef brisket plate, and Chocolate mousse. For drinks we got Thai Berry smash and Mandarin Margarita. Overall, there was good flavor in all the dishes, with well-paired flavor combos, which is the standard Hai Hospitality sets. However, some dishes didn't have as bold flavor as I was hoping. The Chicken karaage could have been bolder. Surprisingly, the Tomato and Cucumber salad had more flavor than expected. The Prime Bavette and Smoked Brisket were great, though a bit pricy. Both of the drinks were excellent, but only got one each as we're not big on spending on alcohol with dinner. Normally I'd go to this type of place with high-end satiation expectations, such as at Uchiko, where actually filling up would cost a lot so I don't fill up and plan to eat a couple hours later. However, we were both full after eating the above, and even had a piece of brisket and some rice to take home. For the quality, the value is there. The service was great, the bartender checked on us multiple times, and gave us updates on what dishes were left to come out once we were about two-thirds through our order. Each time a dish came we got a refresher on what it was from the server, which I like. The place was about 1/3 full at 5 PM and 2/3 full when we left at 5:45 PM, with the volume-level rising. The speed and quality of the meal taken together is excellent-- we were in and out quickly and enjoyed our fine dining. The restaurant was a bit dark; I could read the menu fine, but one older gentleman had to use his phone to see the menu text. At the end of the meal, a small gift card helped lower the price so it was under 100 out the door. We ended up being very happy with the food and experience-- it was great, but it wasn't amazing solely because a couple dishes needed their good flavor to be bolder. No single item wasn't good, and a couple were exceptional, so I'd easily recommend this restaurant and would like to go back.
