I received a coupon via Facebook for $6 Fried Calamari, so I decided to check it out. Good decision! I went there on a Saturday afternoon, after my long run of 10 miles. I was very hungry! I thought of ordering something else from the menu, but the plate of calamari was so plentiful, enough for a full meal. It was served with a dipping sauce, lemon and jalapeño. Very tasty! The waitress was nice enough to take our picture and was there on time to refill my water glass. I was also very thirsty from the run! I loved the experience there. Visiting the city and friend was craving seafood and found this spot. We made a reservation but it wasn't needed; shocked for a Saturday evening. But we were seated immediately and the staff seemed nice. Now for the action...THE FOOD Drinks 5/10: lots of ice, no real flavor Andouille & cheddar hush puppies 6/10: these had a nice flavor to them and they were fresh and hot when they came out. They weren't too greasy which was nice. The sauce it came with was OK. It wasn't my favorite though. Redfish and crab 5/10: I feel like the menu duped me. On the menu it says the fish is pan seared however my fish had a crust on it. Not a pan fried...it had crust as if they coated it....a literal crust. I did green beans instead of asparagus. The green beans were a little overcooked, but they were seasoned well and had great flavor. I'm not really a fan of warm tomatoes, but it added something different to the green beans for me. Had a great dinner at TLC Austin yesterday! I hasn't realized they were on inKind until my friend said he wanted to lobster and we were looking to see where we could go. We were served by the lovely and pleasant Sam who helped us pick what we wanted. In the end we got a dozen oysters, a lobster roll, and a 1lb crab boil. I stopped by TLC Austin after getting a coupon for a free order of crispy fried okra on Facebook, and it was a nice bonus to the meal. The fried okra halves were served with house made smoked black pepper ketchup and ranch dressing. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor picnic style seating. There is also a bar area. We were created promptly upon arrival and seated indoors. The service was friendly and efficient. For my meal, I ordered the crab and shrimp scramble, which was hearty and packed with seafood. It also came with a side of fried potatoes and toast with the most delicious jam. My friend ordered the calamari, which was 24 hour buttermilk soaked Point Judith Calamari, fried and tossed with sliced Jalapenos, Green Onions, Salt and citrus pepper seasoning. It was lightly breaded and cooked well and served with lemon aioli dipping sauce. One thing to note is that parking has changed. The garage now uses a QR code system instead of free parking, but the restaurant still offers one hour of parking validation. Overall, I had an enjoyable visit with good food and good service. Tuesday is an underrated Happy Hour night! Went to TLC for some $1 Oysters and a cocktail. Sat at the bar and Mike was amazing! Friendly, made amazing drinks and since it was pretty dead in there, we go alot of attention. Got a dozen oysters that were fresh, tasty and hit the spot. We ordered a Praline Sazerac, and a TLC Marg from the happy hour menu. Decided we still needed some food and split the The Texan burger. I loved the addition of Refried Beans, Fritos, Onions, Guacamole, Salsa! Can't say I have ever had fritos on a burger and it was delish. Juicy cooked right and came with house made chips. Perfect to share. Had to get an order of fries. Perfect, hot, salted just right. Overall a great experience and I think going on an off night made it more special. After 1.5 half hours of silent disco dancing at Highball, I had worked up an appetite. However, I did not want a full meal, but something to tide me over until I got home. While at Highball you could see the bright lights from TLC, which were alluring. TLC is located on S. Lamar across the street from Highball and the Alamo drafthouse. TLC appeared to have a million Christmas lights both indoors and outdoors. It is a casual restaurant with a Texas twist. You can find comfort food, fresh seafood, and 30+ beers on tap. The furniture is picnic style, which gives off a family friendly vibe. TLC has ample space. As such, it would be great for hosting large groups, families, or friends in a casual environment. Importantly, their patio is dog-friendly and will be well suited for your fur babies. I looked at the appetizer menu and had my heart set up on bacon-wrapped deviled eggs. Sounded so yummy and something I could eat while I drove home. However, the bartender told me they had been wiped out due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Noooooooooo!!! Say it isn't so. Yep, afraid so. I was so looking forward to having my first TLC dining experience. Unfortunately, I left disappointed. The decor is sparse featuring picnic tables. The music was loud and inappropriate. I like Led Zepelin but not for dinner. We ordered Mexican martinis. They came out promptly but were half full. For $14 a drink full is mandatory. The second round for my wife was full proving my point. Our muscles and oysters were great. Then the chicken fried steak came. Burnt. How they let that out of the kitchen is still a mystery. The replacement was better, but the taste was off, and they did no use ribeye per the description. The meat was grainy and chewy. I know my cuts of meat, and this was definitely not ribeye. WHAT A RIPOFF ! AND HORRIBLY RUN. We have been to TLC several times and I tolerated the prices and inconsistent experience because my family really likes the crab boils. But this was it... As typical, we went with friends for the crab boil on a Sunday dinner. We get there and they tell us that the king crab price has gone up from $100/lb to $200/lb but they don't change it on the menu. If you are going to double the price by $100, you should take the time to change the menu. BTW market price for king grab right now is like $100-130/ lb so they are marking it up big-time. AND then they say they are out of andoullie sausage, which is a key part of any good cajun boil. They were also out of Pinot Grigio that our friend ordered, and when it came to dessert a) they have milkshakes on the menu but server said the milkshake machine has not worked in over a year, and b) they have desserts on the menu with strawberries but they were out of strawberries. So, they are too lazy to update their menus (how hard is that ??), they stink at being able to stock their restaurant with key ingredients (go to HEB if you are out of strawberries or andouille sausage...) and it's very overpriced. We paid close to $500 for a dinner for 3. I went to Capital Grille last night and we had an amazing dinner for half the price and the menu was accurate and they had all their ingredients. Big shocker. I am happy to pay especially in today's expensive world for a great dining experience. Went for brunch a few weeks ago with my boyfriend. I got the Bananas Foster Belgian waffle and he got the brisket skillet hash. My waffle was very crispy and golden brown, and the bananas foster topping was sweet and banana-y. I just wish I had gotten a savory side to balance out the flavors. My boyfriend enjoyed his brisket skillet hash, said it was very filling and hearty, and the avocado added some freshness to an otherwise heavy dish. Absolutely brutal dining experience! We went with a group on a Saturday and it was moderately steady. On the wall, they had cute little rules and one of them said to bring your appetite because this isn't a small plate restaurant. The food was taking a while but we were told many times that it wouldn't be much longer because their fastest chefs were working. We waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food which was all brought out one at a time in a staggered way so we were all done at different times. If you order fries, you will get 15 or so of them which is whatever but don't post signs on your way saying big portions are coming. Sandwiches could have been kid sized. We will never be back. Highlight was the fried okra appetizer- its so good and highly recommended! My table also tried the hush puppies and fried oysters. I ordered the Shrimp BBQ sandwich and it wasn't good- the shrimp was skimpy and the flavor was a bit bland. The boils were good but seemed smaller portions for being for 2 people. I think what brings this restaurant down in stars was the service. They were very reluctant to provide substitutions for sides or food allergies, which is not common for a casual restaurant like this. Ordered a boozy milk shake and a sandwich that never came out. Took about an hour (without getting the sandwich) so if you are on a time crunch maybe this isn't the place. Every year the Rooster clan finds a nice spot for lunch just before we open presents. Try not to dine past lunch hours so service peeps can head home early. TLC Christmas eve was a hit with our family. I started with the raw oysters. For the price they were a win but I also wished for an additional sauce option. Then, something everyone would eat the charbroiled version. Even got dear ol' grandma to eat one. GF and I decided to split some Crab Legs (1lb) and the DKR Sandwich. The crab was cooked nicely; didn't even bother with the boiled veggies. The Sandwich had good flavor and soft bread; good chips too. By far one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The crab is excellent, cooked well and they give you ALL the tools you may need. It's hidden so I feel like people don't know about it. Parking is free under the garage connected to the building. They also decorate for Christmas like no other, lights everyplace and a snow machine on the patio. Holiday menu with drinks and food, tried the peppermint martini last night and it was fantastic. My husband has tried the ribeye and enjoyed it but my go-to is the boil. Give them a go! Their thanksgiving plate had turkey, stuffing, cranberry, green beans, and mash potatoes with gravy. It was good, with decent portions. I don't think it was worth $45 a plate, but it was a holiday so that's probably why they priced it up. Wish they had rolls to go with the meal. We ordered mac and cheese on the side and that was amazing. My son got chicken tenders and fries and was content. The tenders were pretty small though. Service was okay. I had a birthday reward and used it by ordering the 14 oz double Bone-In Pork Chop and Brick Chicken. We enjoyed it very much where the pork chop was huge and extremely tasty with great flavor. It came with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Nueske's Slab Bacon Green Beans, and Apple Chutney as sides. The sides were very good. The chicken was super favorable and tasty, and had that lemon pepper flavor. It was also served with Cilantro-lime Rice and Green Beans. We ate half of it and took the rest home for lunch the next day. I was prepared to write a 5 star review for this spot but things took a turn halfway through our meal... Firstly we enjoyed our dinner - I got the shrimp sandwich which was delicious and well seasoned. There's a sweet sauce inside which I liked. I also tried my friend's mac and cheese which was perfect. We decided to order the TLC Split for the table, but we had to remind our server to put the order in. The restaurant seemed a bit understaffed too. The server stopped by our table to promise that our dessert was coming out "in a few minutes" a couple times. In the end, we waited 30 minutes for a basic ice cream sundae to come out. When the TLC Split finally came out, it was extremely disappointing. We expected all the toppings listed on the menu to be included, but it was just chocolate and vanilla ice cream on stale and dense banana bread with whipped cream, cherries, and toasted marshmallows. The boil is great-I love how we have a tools bucket with the shell cracker and scissors, making it easier to eat. It's great for sharing with two people! They provide a bib and gloves so it's not too messy. The DKR was alright-similar to a Philly cheesesteak but the bread got really soggy so I didn't end up finishing it. Love the macaroni and cheese! Friends got the Texan and Bubba sandwich-I didn't try these but they say those are good. What really makes this a 3 star instead of 4 is the service. Our server forgot our order of the TLC Split (don't get this btw). Then, after taking our order, we waited possibly 20 minutes for it to come out. It is a mixture of ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, some hard banana bread, etc. I don't think it included all of the toppings that were mentioned on the menu such as pineapple and brownie...regardless, the hard, cold banana bread didn't taste good and it was a strange mixture of a dessert. We called our waiter not just to complain but also order but we started by telling her about it she basically said something about turning it off and then it was turned back on so they forgot to turn it back off?
