Because the icing was runnier and less sweet compared to traditional cinnamon buns, it felt less "heavy" when eating it, if that makes sense. I also liked the lighter texture of the croissant. I didn't love the apple fritter because it was slightly burned on the edges but it did have a nice crunch to it. I wish it had some actual apples in it though! As for the drink, it was yum. As everyone has noted - this place is worth the wait. Pastries and drinks are equally perfect. Their savory pastries are excellent. I got my husband the cinnamon roll - which he called mid. He LOVES cinnamon rolls. HOWEVER - I thought it was bomb. But I'm a croissant girlie. SO - that being said, if you are expecting a traditional, gooey cinnamon roll center, you will be disappointed. But it is a perfectly flaky cinnamon croissant with the perfect glaze. I've only tried their specialty coffees once in the fall once in the winter, they were both great. Next time I go, I'll try one of their staple menu drinks. I got a Matcha for my daughter, she's obsessed with matchas. She said this one was the best one yet. So don't be turned away by the line, I live close enough that sometimes I'll just drive by and see how the line is, if it's too long I skip if it's decent I go. The hype was absolutely real about their Cinnamon roll croissant. The "couldn't stop eating it" feeling is a real thing here. This is a new spot in Pasadena so of course it's going viral on social. This means two things. The food could be worth the wait and/or people just can't help but follow the crowd. In my case, this line meant everyone heard about the Salted Butter madness and couldn't stay away. But this isn't a place for the weak. You gotta plan your attack and make sure to plan your visit wisely. First, parking lot is 30mins only which in pasadena means hurry get in and hurry get out because no one wants to park on the street. It's also shared with employees in the nearby businesses which is poor planning on the city. So if the line is past the businesses you are certainly not going to park in the lot. Instead, park on Fair Oaks and walk. Second, the viral sensation is just going to keep growing so finding the right time to go to avoid lines is crucial. Never go on a weekend unless you have no respect for your time and don't mind waiting almost two hours for pastries in line and possibly after you order. Food is fresh but fresh takes time and they certainly don't limit people's quantities. The best time to go is during the week as close to 9am as possible. Anything pushing 1030am and on is going to be at least a 20-30min wait if not more. You've been warned. Third, have an idea and a backup of what you want to order. They have your classic butter croissant which I'm not sure the wait is worth. Several variations of croissants keep people coming back. Try the famous Cinnamon roll croissant. Trust me. Worth the visit alone. Honorable mentions are the ham and cheese croissant and the almond croissant. The best ones sell out so hope and pray they have your first choices but if not have some back up options and then just go back another day. Support your small business owners!! Lastly, be kind to the staff and be patient. These ladies and gents do their very best to keep food coming out and when you don't see your goodies just ask! They might have a batch coming or on the way. I was all set when I saw the ham and cheese croissant come out hot. Flagged a young lady down for it and she was quick and helpful in adding it to my box. Love the small ways they help you out. Don't expect to have a full blown breakfast meetup here. The BESTTT almond croissants I've ever tried. I love that it's not too sweet and it's perfectly flaky. I prefer the sweet pastries here more than the savory. The olive oil cupcake is another one of my favorites but this one is on the sweeter side with the cream cheese frosting. Drinks are just okay but I will be coming back for that almond croissant!!! The line was out the door on a Saturday late morning. Once you get to the door of the Café, you feel like you are transported to Manhattan. It took about 30 minutes to get to the front of the line and there was an array of baked goods to choose from, as they were continuing to replenish the most popular items. The French onion soup danish was getting freshly stocked, and I am so glad that I chose that one because it was the most unique Croissant/tart that I've had in a hot min with caramelized onions and cheese on top. The everything seasoning hot honey scroll was also very tasty with a cream cheese filling. Also grabbed a chocolate chunk cookie, as well as a ginger molasses, and both of them have textures that are mind blowing. I tried a bite of the cinnamon roll and the apple fritter as well. I thought they were good but compared to the savory pastries personally, I did not think that they were anything to write home about. Okay so, Salted Butter knows how to throw down when it comes to cinnamon rolls. As glazingly sweet the frosting looks, it might actually be something an Asian Auntie would say, "Sweet but not too sweet", which if you know, you know means.. Just right. I visited on a weekend a bit before 9am and was out in about 30 minutes. I came early enough to find parking in the lot in the back. There were a lot of spots designated for employees only. I ordered a variety of pastries and thought things were okay; perhaps social media hyped it up too much. Small little corner bakery at the edge of Pasadena. Parking is a bit dreadful - every business in that little strip mall has their own threatening sign for their own parking spot stating that the parking space is for their business only and you have to physically get out of your vehicle to move the parking cone out the way so you can park in that specific spot. I've been to places in the inner city that have had similar signs for their parking but honestly wasn't as bad as this location. Again, the bakery is very small. Employees try to rush your order to move you along the line - similar to how Chipotle does. I wish the employees were a bit more graceful and more patient with ALL their patrons. They seem to have grace and patience with customers who were maybe the "regulars" or people who were of a certain demographic, but for an interracial family walking-in, this establishment tried their best to rush us out the door.. The chocolate chip cookie was the only item that was good. The line is like every other line in L.A. We happily stand in line for Courage Bagels. From start to finish, we invested 44-minutes of time and almost $55 on the croissants and coffees. Glad we tried it. The only super fresh croissant was the chocolate hazelnut which we saw the employee bring out to the counter and stock up on the bake case area. They were still slightly warm and the croissant had a nice crunch. The whole hazelnut is a nice touch. The chocolate seemed diluted down as it didn't have a rich chocolate taste. The cinnamon roll-esque croissant is reminiscent of a Kouign-amann with the frosting replacing the brûlée top. I was expecting a cream cheese frosting and if it had any cream cheese in it, it too was slight like the slight chocolate taste in the chocolate hazelnut croissant. Overall, the croissants' texture were damp. A dilemma for a croissant. Their shelf life is narrow. The chocolate hazelnut croissant had the best texture and as I said, had just come out of the back on a sheet pan to be boxed-up as ordered. The space is tiny and a tight squeeze with all of the customers. The ordering process goes quickly, if you know what you want and don't hold-up the line trying to make up your mind. The staff was friendly. After ordering, you continue through the line to pay and order drinks. Drinks are called out for pick-up back at the front of the line which is hectic to get to once your name has been called. This is not a good pick-up area if the place is as packed as it was today. Lots of people were being dropped-off to get a place in line because the line kept growing and parking is limited. I finally got the chance to try Salted Butter and all I can say is WOW. I'm a huge pastry person, and these are easily some of the best I've had in the area. I got a box with a few different things to try, and every single one was a home run. You can just see the quality in all the flaky layers (the lamination is incredible!). I've been impatiently waiting for my chance to get into Salted Butter. I have refused to stand in the ever present line. It was apparently my lucky day when I saw zero line on my way into the office. I made the fasted u-turn (legally of course *wink) and practically ran in. The overwhelming sweet smell of baked goods rushed over me the instant I stepped over the threshold. I was in heaven. It was quite honestly, pretty difficult to decide on what to get. The very patient, very nice woman at the counter held a smile for every customer. I was pleasantly surprised to see a happy, smooth running business amidst the crowd that quickly formed after I placed my order. Everything looks and smelled amazing. Of course I ordered way more than I needed. Chose a box of 6 items to take home to share with my family. What I picked: - Apple Fritter (might be my favorite. like a slice of apple pie. very filling. great for sharing or not) - Cinnamon croissant roll (frosting is perfect. no too sweet at all) - Almond butter croissant (another fave. love the sweet almond filling paired with the buttery flaky croissant crust) - Spinach artichoke dip - Fig pastry (my son gobbled this one up so I didn't even get to try) I also ordered a hot vanilla latte. Parking can be a bit of a hassle though--I got lucky with a spot next door, but be aware most of the parking is reserved for employees or limited to 30 minutes. I didn't try their drinks today but I did try a couple of their most popular pastries according to the person serving me. And they were amazingly flaky, buttery crisp and delicious! Visited Salted Butter on Sunday morning. Wasn't sure what to expect with parking. There was some parking but not much. The bank next door was closed so I parked there although was afraid of the warning signs that said it was for the bank customers only lol anyway, luckily I arrived at the perfect time. It's likely a business move to have you pay first which is fine if they had more space to wait. I got a bit claustrophobic so I ordered baked goods and skidaddled lol. Worth the wait! Solid 4.5 stars. I went on a Saturday morning and the line was wrapped around the block. The wait was a little under one hour. They are constantly bringing out fresh pastries. The only downside is you get whatever is available at the time you get to the front of the line. So if there's a specific item you want that's not in the display case then you're out of luck. My favorites were their Cookie Croissant, Pumpkin Cheesecake Danish, Bacon & Potato, and Spinach & Cheese. Ughhh they were all so delicious! It was hard to choose a favorite. Their Salted Brown Butter Maple Latte was good as well. read more

Great selection of pastries and coffee. I stopped because I didn't see a line as usual. The pastry order was so quick but it's until the end that they take your coffee order which took longer than I expected. I think they should take your coffee order first so when you get your pastries, you also get your coffee. Anyhow, the pastries and coffee were very good. read more

The line was out the door- this place is popular and the line moved fairly quick. We ordered a variety of pastries to try and an iced strawberry matcha. Their croissants are flaky & have nice lamination. I love the variety of flavor combinations for both sweet and savory options. The strawberry matcha was a great color and I like that they make their own strawberry puree. read more

They have their first store located across the street from Huntington Hospital. The lines can get really long at peak breakfast times. My friend waited 25 minutes, but the few times I went, i only waited a few minutes. They serve a variety of drinks such as signature lattes, and matcha drinks. BUT, they are known for their pastries which are made with salted butter. These pastries go by quick because they're so rich and tasty. There is a parking lot available off California. The driveway to enter is west of the storefront. Food/Drink: My favorite pastry is the cinnamon roll, and apple fritter. What I loved about these pasties is how the pastry falls apart and is so soft. The sweetness is not overpowering. The frosting on the cinnamon roll is so yummy! These pastries definitely taste better straight out of the oven. My favorite drink is the good vanilla bean latte and the iced cloud matcha. There are milk alternatives offered here. The strawberry matcha wasn't my favorite, but still a good drink. I thought it was too sweet. Service/Ambiance: The servers were very helpful and kind. Pastries are being baked and restocked while open, so be prepared to wait. They communicate with everyone in the shop well. There is not much room to sit inside, but there are a few tables in front and behind the shop. The vibe is good inside!! Overall, Salted butter has been on my mind recently. I hope they decide open later, maybe one day? Honestly, one of the favorite cookies I've ever had. Came for the hype. We came around 8:15 am on a Sunday (store opens at 8am) and were about 3 buildings away. Line moved fairly quickly - it took around 35 min to get to the front. We ordered a variety of pastries. The ones I recommend are the cinnamon roll (that vanilla bean glaze is so good on it) and the bacon potato savory danish. Earl grey bun was good too if you like the flavor! Everything else was good - nothing that stood out from the ham and cheese croissant, almond croissant, fig jam danish, holiday cranberry cheesecake danish, and apple fritter. I personally didn't like the salted brown sugar chocolate chip cookie because it was too sweet. Their seasonal spiced cookie butter latte was alright. Overall, kinda over hyped. I'm glad I went to try it, but I wouldn't wait in line for it again. Maybe when the hype dies down, I'd go back to get their cinnamon roll, but there are also so many other bakeries in the area to try! Service was friendly! They have benches inside, but it's more of a drop by, purchase, and take home pastries. I hope the owner reads this and takes this to heart: please fix the flow of this place! I visited on a quiet Wednesday afternoon with only 3 people purchasing (including me), yet 3 orders were enough to reveal the disorganization of the ordering and payment system. The person taking my pastry order by hand was also managing the other employees at the register and making drinks. I ordered the strawberry rhubarb danish and enjoyed it. However once I looked over the counter and saw the messiness (dirty gloves & napkins on the floor, and dirty espresso machine), I unfortunately won't be back. read more

I've been wanting to try Salted Butter even before they opened up their storefront, and was finally able to! I decided to pre-order a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and chose 9am pickup. Upon arrival, there was a short line but we got through it fairly quickly. Because it's so busy, it felt a bit crammed inside but as I said, we weren't inside for long, and the staff was really lovely. For drinks, we ordered the iced salted brown butter maple latte and tiramisu latte. Both were good, but the brown butter maple syrup in the first drink kept settling to the bottom of the drink, even after stirring. It was a delicious syrup, but I just wish it blended into the drink better. The tiramisu latte was really flavorful and delicious. We got a box of 6 pastries - butter croissant, spinach danish, chocolate croissant, apple fritter, almond croissant, and ham and cheese croissant. I was most impressed by the butter, chocolate, and almond croissants - so fresh and perfectly crispy layers - no soggy croissants here! The apple fritter, spinach danish, and ham and cheese croissant were all okay but not the best I've ever had. I will say though, everything tastes homemade and freshly made. Unlike some other bakeries, you don't have to wonder when your pastry was actually made and if it's truly fresh. As for the pumpkin pie, it had a ginger snap crust I believe, as opposed to a flaky crust which I actually would've preferred. Nonetheless, it was still flavorful, light, and once again, tasted homemade - in the best way possible. I was disappointed that they were already sold out of cinnamon rolls, which I was really looking forward to, but I guess I'll just try to come back earlier next time to get some! I don't typically enjoy going to overly crowded, overly hyped places but the quality of Salted Butter isn't something you find just anywhere. You can tell every pastry and baked good is crafted with care and the owners really care about what they're putting out to their customers. After seeing this place on my fyp for so long I finally got to give it a try and was not disappointed! The line can get long (we waited 30 min on a Sunday afternoon) but it's bearable, they have umbrellas you can borrow which is a super good idea and it's at least constantly moving. Once you're inside service is fast and you're out quickly. Might be hard to find parking depending on the time. The coffee was delectable, tasted like a dessert. I had the Salted Butter Maple Latte - they have different types of foam but the Mascarpone was quite unique and definitely added a great deal to my impression of the drink. I noticed they have seasonal drinks so may be back to try more - am definitely reeled in by the holiday sugar cookie on the seasonal menu. Now the pastries... THE PASTRIES! I wanted to order one of everything, seriously. I think this is the best ham and cheese croissant I've ever had. The earl grey bun took me by surprise - I wasn't sure what to expect but was happily surprised, I thought it would be overwhelming but the flavors were actually rather delicate.
