We went with our friends and we ordered margaritas and the bartender decided we "had already been drinking and would not be served at this time" when we were actually very quiet and well behaved. I have frequented here multiple times for happy hour with colleagues and the food here is quite spectacular. Below are what I have tried and details about each one: 1. MUST TRY: Yuca fries with this OUT OF THIS WORLD chimichurri aioli. You could put this on anything and it's going to be elevated to a new level. They need to bottle this sauce and sell it. 2. MUST TRY: Lulo chicken wings - a nice balance of sweet and sour with their glaze and the coconut aji sauce is money. The wing itself is quite crispy even with the glaze but what I think makes it are the toppings that garnish these wings. They are tossed with fried shallots, peanuts, cilantro, and much needed pickled fresno chiles to add a little heat and cut through the richness of them. 3. Short rib grilled cheese: this behemoth of a sandwich was one I debated about ordering due to this being something I would not expect at a latin-esque restaurant. Its quite rich with the short ribs but balanced with piquillo peppers and gouda cheese. Its enough to share as the bread is a Texas-style toast and accompanied with a jicama slaw for balance 4. Queso Frito - fried Dominican cheese cubes on top of a tomato and cumin sauce. The cheese has a nice saltiness to it, the sauce was ok though as I was not expecting it to be chilled. Would prefer it warm. 5. Churros - fried to perfection and served with a salted dulce de leche sauce to dip in! A nice sweet treat to end the meal The one challenge is that if you plan to go in a large party, MAKE RESERVATIONS. It's busy there during happy hour (M-F 4-7 pm) and there are two large tables for bigger parties. There a several 4 seat tables along the wall, but they do not allow more than 4 at a table and seating at the bar can be tight at times. The restaurant overall was clean appearing and the restrooms were also clean each time. As it was before Covid, the food was delicious and fresh. I read some comments that the portions are small and while I agree I would say that personally I prefer to pay for quality over quantity. I finally visited the salted lime and was very disappointed. The salt on each item was overwhelming. I am a big fan of sweet plantain and has never seen anyone sprinkle salt on it, it was very disappointing. The chips was so salty it burned my lips. The fish tacos was very heavily breaded. We tried to make a reservation for two for the front room on a Saturday night and we were told the front room is for walk ins only. We took our chances and walked in around 6:15 and were seated immediately at one of the long tables. It was noisy but a fun atmosphere. All of the food we ordered was delicious although the portions were small. Chips were fried perfectly and guacamole was fresh, the jicama orange salad was bright and the veggie tacos with fried cheese were a great combination of ingredients. The drinks were tasty if a little light on the alcohol. The wait staff were friendly but clearly wanted to flip our table. Every dish was removed within a minute of it being emptied. All of the food came to the table at the same time instead of the chips and salad first. We were finished with the whole meal in 40 minutes. By that time (7pm) the restaurant looked completely full. We enjoyed the food but still felt hungry at the end. After spending $60 for two people at Salted Lime we walked over to Alfonso's to eat mozzarella sticks and get drinks at the bar. Maybe next time I'll try happy hour. There were enough vegetarian options for one dinner, but not enough that I would be a regular here as a vegetarian. read more

We live right down the street. We had wanted to try it since it opened, but this was the first chance. Overall, the service was very good. My wife and I had chips and guacamole. I typically like some more onion, jalapeño, and lime in mine, but it was OK. For dinner, my wife got the quesadilla and I got the surf and turf. My wife's was pretty good. I thought mine was good, but the portions are extremely small. My pick was under large plates, and I was craving more. Overall OK, but not fantastic. We apologize that we came to an establishment that was dead and quiet. Apologies that I have friends that naturally have loud voices but to claim we were drunk was completely inaccurate. Planned on going elsewhere last night for dinner but apparently the place had gone out of business so decided to try Salted Lime. What a great find! Very spacious and pleasant. Loved the bar and the vibe. We were greeted warmly and politely by the hostess, and seated quickly. Our waiter was great (aside from the fact he brought me the wrong food) as it turned out to be delicious(empanadas off the special menu) followed by coconut shrimp tacos, which were even more delicious! My hubby found his favorite, some steak, on the menu and gave it a 10.5 on the 0-10 scale!! I ordered the painkiller from the bar. Served up beautifully and so reminiscent of our time in the Virgin Islands! Hubs had a gin and tonic (minor complaint-very small glass with too much ice and not enough drink) but tasty. We're big fans of Uproot, another of their restaurants, so knew we wanted to give Salted Lime a try. Didn't disappoint! IMHO, I think ordering tapas style seems to be the restaurant's wheelhouse. All of the sharing plates were absolutely delicious and reminded us of our time spent in Spain (things like the Manchego and Serrano were accompanied by uber-Spanish tomato toast, the sausage and potato dish brought us back to Patatas Bravas). The food came out quick, the service was great and the drinks were tasty. The atmosphere has a nice open floor plan with a good vibe from their windows along Somerville's Main Street. I'm already planning a return visit to Salted Lime. The menu had many great choices that interested my husband and I making it difficult to make a decision. We finally decided, after two delicious margaritas, to start with the trio of salsas and chips. The chips were crisp and tasty and the three salsas were excellent choices. The next dish was the tacos which didn't disappoint. We followed the tacos up with the Cuban sandwich which was my favorite of all our selections. We finished with the short ribs dish which was my husband's favorite plate. This place is new and popular in Somerville. They have a huge bar and lots of table space. So the set-up is very pleasing. However, when it came to the menu & food I was not impressed. My friend and I had ordered chips and salsa and the chips were served in a bag rather than a plate which seemed a little weird and cheap. The menu is mostly in Spanish and found it confusing of what exactly I wanted and was getting. So if you don't know Spanish you will need to google or ask the server about the items listed. I really wanted shrimp tacos but did not see that anywhere on the menu and they only serve 2 tacos if your ordering them. It wasn't a terrible experience, but there was a lot of hype for this place and don't really see why. read more

I've been here for lunch once and dinner once, (but both a few months ago) and would maybe rate my over all experience as a 3.5? Service is really wonderful. It's a beautiful space and I loved the decor. However, I felt like the dishes were hit or miss. Lunch: I was a bit disappointed by the short rib tacos my friend and I split, they were lacking in flavor. The Colombian hot dog and pork belly skewer (one tiny skewer :() were both amazing though. Both excellently flavored. Sangria was fine, nothing spectacular but also not bad. When I went back a few weeks later for dinner I had the Baja fish tacos which were tasty, Delicious shrimp skewer, and guacamole which was good but came in a very tiny bowl and their version of a pisco sour (forgetting the name) but it tasted off. I love Mexican/Latin food so I'd still want to come back and try some more of the menu... the prices are a bit high for what you're getting though. Maybe I'll try happy hour next? Hopefully as more time passes, they tweak some of the menu. Worth checking out if you're in the area, I appreciated the diverse menu in terms of both food and drink. read more
