Saltgrass Steak House is our "go to" restaurant in Amarillo. We've frequented this restaurant for almost 10 years. It is consistently excellent in the quality of its food and service. It is probably the best-managed restaurant we know. The wait staff are predominantly young people, many of which are attending college while working at Salt Grass. They are excellently trained and have wonderful interpersonal skills. We are kind of in a rut -- we generally order one of two things -- Pat's Rib-Eye steak or grilled salmon. Appetizer - Range Rattlers Best appetizer I have ever had, anywhere! Can't even explain how great they are! Think of it as the best dang Jalapeño Popper you will ever eat! A Jalapeño stuffed with Shrimp and Pepper Jack cheese and deep fried to perfection! You'll need a knife and fork to eat them! Not too spicy either! *Note* The me I does not state it but you can get 4, 6 or 8 of these bad boys! Meal - Pat's Ribeye cooked Medium (to perfection I might add) smothered with Onions and Mushrooms. Sides: Salad and Green Beans The most tender steak I have gotten somewhere in a long time! Melted in my mouth. Salad - Run of the mill steakhouse salad and they will add fresh ground pepper if you choose. Green Beans - they seemed to be grilled which is not my preference but they were fresh and had a nice crunch to them. Wait Staff - Very attentive. My server was Shane and I really hope they pay him well because he was fantastic! My eyes were bigger than my stomach so he helped me pack up my leftovers and even got me a to fresh sweet tea to go! These guys were packed on a Saturday night, of course. I had just gotten off the road after driving almost 500 miles, the last hundred miles in a serious windstorm. The Knob Creek Old-Fashioned was exactly what the doctor ordered. The 9 ounce fillet, which I had ordered medium well, came out medium or, more likely, medium rare. But after Brandi brought it back -- along with some extra mashed potatoes by way of compensation for the error -- it was delicious. Good salad, hot bread with honey butter. No complaints. read more

Man, they are on it!! A++!!, My wife and I are road tripping it from San Diego, CA.., driving west from Louisiana, stopped for dinner after driving 700mi. Our server Cindy was genuinely friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was pleasantly inviting. You could tell the staff and management care. Our drinks were ice cold, fresh and and served immediately. We went with the fried pickles, our appetizer was served so fast and it was delish! Kelvin, the manager checked in on us to make sure everything was A+ and was very cordial, courteous and friendly. Very prompt service. The food is absolutely A++. We got a ton of food. Our dining experience was perfect!! My wife and I went with the NY strip streaks, medium rare. The steaks were cooked perfectly. Juicy, piping hot, flavorful. The sides were A+! The shrimp are huge, the size of my thumb! The garden salads were served so fast and were cold, crisp and fresh. Overall our dining experience was refreshingly positive. My wife and I traveled to Texas to watch our son play football. We really wanted a good steak in Amarillo. The best rated steakhouse was saltgrass with availability. We made reservations the day before for 8:30. We arrived and they sat us right away. That was the best thing about our experience. We ordered drinks, I got my beer and then the server said well we are out of the wine you want but we do have a more expensive option. The we ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer with the cocktail sauce on the side because it is not gluten-free and a side of butter for her. It came out in cocktail sauce, great for me because I had to eat them all. We both ordered our steaks medium rare and mine came out charred on the top and my wife's was medium well. They were pushing people out as soon as possible and our salads came out before the appetizer. Then our entrees came out before we were half way though appetizer and salads. This is a 2 star steakhouse with 4 star prices. Many other options with better service and food in the same area. Even though we will be back the next 3 years for football. This is my go to place while passing thru Amarillo! I have NEVER had a bad experience here. The wait staff is top notch . The managers are always present and the bar staff know what they are doing! We arrived for our 2pm reservation and weren't seated until after 3pm. It took 45 minutes to order. The food came out before the salad and was COLD. Most of the people at our table didn't receive their sides. When they eventually brought the sides, multiple servers brought all the sides out so we ended up getting double of the sides and then tried to charge us for extra sides. I ordered something as easy as a burger, med, w/pickles, onions, lettuce and tomato which are all items standard to the burger. I did change things up with asking for no fries and substitute with green beans which I was told I could do. Not only did I not receive the garnish for the burger but no green beans. Got soggy fries and a hockey puck for a burger! Ketchup could not help this patty. I guess my fault for not looking inside the bag but awful food non the less and feel ripped off! This was our first time at this location as I am from out of town. Cindy was our waitress and was very attentive, suggestive and had a nice personality. The manager Javier stopped by twice. At the beginning of our meal and then at the end to ask how everything was and if we needed anything else. Even though we arrived an hour before closing, everyone was friendly from the hostess to any of the other waiters or waitresses that I may have passed by. And of course I wouldn't have done my due diligence if I didn't speak about how awesome the food was! I had the filet and it was cooked to perfection. I couldn't believe how it melted in my mouth. The fried mushrooms was the appetizer and had a little bit of a spice to them and they were absolutely delicious. I almost couldn't control myself not to eat all of them before my food arrived. The bottom line is, between the outstanding service, relaxing ambiance of the restaurant and friendly atmosphere it was wonderful experience for the end of a long day! We went on a Friday night, and wait about 40 minutes for our table of 3. The restroom looks old and outdated compared to the outside appearance of the restaurant. We were finally seated in a clean booth, our waitress was pretty nice, no complaints there. We ordered: kids pizza Baby back ribs Vaquero tacos Queso Fresco So the kids pizza was cut off center and partially burned. They also don't give an option to add pepperonis. Baby back ribs fell off the bone, the meat was a little dry despite being drenched in sauce. They were also just "warm" as if they had been sitting a bit when we got them. The loaded potato was wrong the first time, and when we got a new one, it was actually slightly undercooked The vaquero tacos weren't very warm when I got those either. They were a good flavor, but missing a spicy kick. Had they provided salsa, that would have been nice. The queso fresco was good, I would just suggest the cut up the brisket that goes in it, so you don't have a giant chunck of brisket everyone is trying tear apart. Never have I ever been to a well known chain restaurant and have been treated so badly. I could understand if they were busy but this was not the case. After being seated we waited 20 minutes before even asked if we have been waited on. Mind you that 3 other parties around us we seated brought bread and drinks. When a food runner finally acknowledged us we asked to speak with the manager that never came out so we walked out. Upon leaving, we stopped at the hostess desk to ask for the managers name, and she did not know. My first and not my last visit to Saltgrass. I had the chicken fried steak and it was the best I've ever had (so tender and a very large steak). The Gravy was very tasty. The shiner bock bread and butter were delish. Baked potato was loaded so well, I didn't have to request more condiments! Our server was great. I have already made reservations to return. After a long days drive, we were looking forward to a good dinner and saw the Saltgrass Steakhouse. Smelled great when we walked up, however, we had the worst bone in ribeye steak we've ever had. It was undercooked and so tough, and full of fat, we couldn't even cut it with a serrated blade. The baked potato was overcooked. The wedge salad was decent, but not worth the $5 up charge. We had originally thought we may go back there tomorrow for the Thanksgiving feast, and to watch the game, but this is one group that won't be returning. read more

I always try to have a meal at the Saltgrass when in Amarillo. Love their prime rib so I get there early. I like mine medium rare and they don't disappoint. Service is friendly and prompt. Serving size for sides is more than ample. I always take beef home because I like a thick cut which is way too much for me to eat at one sitting. I even introduced the place to some of my classmates during our high school reunion. They liked it too. This place is pretty good with excellent service!!! I forget the waiters name but he was probably in his early 40's and had a goatee. He was great! I ordered the Oscar salmon with sweet potatoes fries and it was delicious. I also recommended the appetizer called Rattlers. It's a stuffed jalapeño with a jumbo shrimp inside and it's deep fried and it's great! The shrimp cocktail is a good and light starter also. As for drinks, our waiter recommended the south side 45. He described as "picture a hot day and your walking by and a light fresh mist hits your face" (or something like that) so we were sold and between me and my co worker we ordered 6!! I ordered the pork chop with mashed potatoes and side salad. The brought the neighboring table ours and then brought us theirs. No big deal to us, was replaced right away, the pork chop was excellent. My mash potatoes however would be lucky to be room temp. Replacement order ... just as bad.
