A month ago I had the best steak salad of my life at this Conroe Saltgrass. Perfect steak cooked medium atop a well manicured salad, serviced by a courteous efficient waitress. Today, however, it was a very different experience. The waiter tried for over 5 minutes to up-sell me on drinks, up-sell me on appetizers, up-sell me on 15 different menu items AND TRIED TO UP-SELL ME ON SOME DAMN DINING FOOD CLUB. When my steak salad finally arrived the steak was barely warm, the salad had several uneatable chunks of lettuce core, wilted green leaves and the onion was just gooey strings and strands. The steak was a bit raw inside and had a fair bit of gristle throughout. So I'm gonna think long and hard before I roll the dice on Saltgrass again. Y'all had it right before... go back to what was done right and dump the up-selling BS please. read more

For this specific location, most of my orders are to-go. If you are picking up bulk orders, the Chicken Laredo is very tasty and travels well. If you order the lunch portion, I would suggest you ask them to cut the breasts in half (especially if you're feeding more women than men). The lunch portion Laredo is delicious, filling, and a hit with my customers. The lunch portion comes with a side as well. I typically do the green beans. They are very good and also travel well (don't get soggy). Also important, this location is pretty good about having your order ready on time. I hate asking for an order to be ready at a specific time and then having to wait an extra 15 minutes. This location usually is prompt. Bottom line - Good food and prompt pick-up times. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the food was okay. The server Kylie was literally the WORST. No manners whatsoever, it took 15 min to get a glass of water, after asking twice. At the end of the dinner she decided to not even come back to the table and sent someone else. I don't know if she's having a bad day but she ruined my experience. I will never go back to the saltgrass in Conroe. $120 for an awful experience. The saltgrass in the woodlands is great, but we will never go back to Conroe location. Let's summarize: - happy hour is wonderful - queso fresco with the brisket is a must get !! ...but not a breakfast one! My father and I visited on a weekday around 1:30 pm. The place was still rather full of lunch crowd folks. The dining room towards the back was so loud from the doorway that we opted for the bar area. The whole placed is very warm and rustic looking. They seated us in the round 5-person booth, but we requested another table because the seats sunk. Only table left was a table with chairs. OK, but not the most comfy. The bartender came by and asked about drinks. Our waitress returned with the teas and took our order. (Which was difficult due to the blaring music.) Someone else brought our salads and within 2 minutes our steak dinners showed up. Literally. We were shocked and a bit annoyed. See pic. We both ordered the Pat's Ribeye Medium rare. They were the thinnest Ribeye's we had ever seen. Dads platter included french fried onions and my side was the Garlic mashed potatoes. His was cooked to order and the onion crispy. A little heavy with salt. My steak was under underdone and so chewy and veiny. I could not breakdown one piece... and the potatoes were lukewarm. By the time the waitress returned, my Dad was more than halfway through. She sent the manager over and she offered to cook me another steak. I had a taste for Steak this evening. Checking Uber Eats, Saltgrass was one of the choices. I only recently moved back to Texas, but I ate at Saltgrass a few times when I lived in the Dallas area, so I figured I'd give it a try. Ordering steak for delivery or even take out is often spotty at best, so I was pleasantly surprised at how good this order was. Via Uber Eats, I ordered the 9 oz Filet, a Caesar Salad, Mac and Cheese, and Grilled Onions to top the steak. The order arrived on time, and was well packed. I had warmed up a dinner plate, and I put the steak, mac and cheese on the plate, and warmed it for about 20 seconds in the microwave. Just enough to give it a bit of extra warmth. The food was reasonably hot already, but I usually give it a bit of a boost when I get deliveries. Everything was very good. The salad was fresh and flavorful. The steak was also really good. Keep in mind that these family steak houses are not serving the highest grade of prime like the high end places, but this steak was on point. I ordered Rare, and it was perfectly cooked. There was not any gristle or fat. It was perfectly trimmed. It also had an excellent flavor. I ordered grilled onions, and smothered the steak with them. Again, very good! The mac and cheese was also quite tasty, as was the bread and butter they included. All in all, I was very happy with the experience, especially considering that this was an Uber Eats delivery. I would not hesitate to order again. I will also look forward to taking the family there once this Covid calms down a bit. read more

Called for a manager who then argued with me, then asked Kitchen and they confirmed it was). This place, I sat at bar, 4 couples and I ordered steaks, each steak was warm, if you could call it that. The price you pay for a steak, you would expect it to at least come off the grill, but not tonight (was like it was under a warmer for at least 30 min and the warmer wasn't working, yes bartender asked if i wanted a replacement. No, don't need a cook to spit on it or roll it on the floor). Manager, you might want to watch what is going on in the kitchen. This will be the last time I visit a Saltgrass. read more

What I got was a piece of fat and gristle which when chewed was like chewing a piece of rubber. My choices, spit it out and complain, so I could sit quietly while my friends ate and they prepared something edible for me. No. my choice was to say nothing, and vow never to go back to Saltgrass again. So, the cook, rather than throw away $2.00 worth of unedible trash, served it to me. The wife had a shrimp dish that she said tasted better than it looked and it looked great. Our server/bartender was Kyle and he was very good as well. This is a Texas Chain so if you are in Houston stop in, you will not be disappointed. I should note it was very reasonably priced. Absolutely disgraceful and distasteful!!! We visited this evening, checked in, and were informed by the hostess/server that our wait time for a party of 4 was 25-30 minutes at 6:30pm. No problem. I showed her our Landry's card and she said we would need it at the table, but she didn't need to see it. I found this odd, since the Landry's card we pay for to get preferential seating, but OK... As I observed, several (not one or two) parties of 3 and 4 people came in and after their check in, were seated within 10 minutes. They had no call ahead or online reservations, which upset me more. The breaking point was when the hostess, at 6:55pm, asked for our name again and confirmed that we were next. At the same time, another 3 some came into the restaurant and checked in, again, with no pre-reservation and were seated at 7:00pm, while we still waited. I followed into the dining area, found a very young, 20 something manager, who I confronted about the situation and couldn't even rationalize ANYTHING to me. I gathered my group and left, as the manager refused to even address the situation and instead, fumbled with the tablet they were using to track guests, while the hostess insisted that she was going in order. B. S. I called Landry's corporate number to report this, but being after hours, we'll see the response we receive. If not satisfactory, it will be the last Landry's restaurant we visit and will write a follow-up review on their response. read more

I attended a party of about 30 people tonight. The reservation was made at least a week in advanced. We had one waitress who worked her tail off, and was VERY good, however; the food was way under par. I ordered the Laredo which seemed to be missing the pepper Jack cheese and about 1 peanut sized avocado slice. My friend ordered the filet which didn't come out until after he had eaten half of my meal. The steaks seemed to be mixed up on two other guests. One of them didn't get her steak fixed until the end of the meal and she ended up taking it To Go. I feel like the kitchen was really disorganized. The manager only came out and apologized. I feel like he should have at least given a discount on the 2 who's steaks came out late and still inaccurate when they did come. Second time we have been here. The first visit was a very good experience. Tonight we waited to be recognized for more than ten minutes. I had to interrupt the bartender from his long conversation with a customer. He came around from the bar and told us they are short staffed. Waited a short time for waiter who was pleasant and took our drink order. Another ten minutes for drinks and bread. He took our order and asked me if I wanted it cook with a thin pink line or pink throughout. I requested pink. We waited 35 minutes for our food to be delivered. The waiter did check on us and he was really nice. My dinner had no pink at all and he wanted to redo it it but we didn't want to wait. It wasn't his fault. The manager brought the bill and actually took off my meal. Very nice & much appreciated. We will give it another try. read more

I'm a guy who can appreciate a good, quality steak. I am not one to complain about the price, so long as I'm getting a quality piece of meat, cooked correctly as I requested, and Saltgrass has always been a place I could rely on for a dining experience such as this. To my disappointment, this location could not provide me the aforementioned. The family and I stopped here heading home from Galveston, and we were extremely hungry. We would have waited for a Texas Roadhouse, our "go-to" place, but we opted for the slightly more expensive, but typically more quality, Saltgrass. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, and we walked in to the beautiful restaurant. We were seated fairly quickly as they weren't many customers. My wife had the T-Bone steak with mac and cheese and the garlic mashed potatoes. I had the bone in ribeye (one of my favorite cuts) with a wedge salad and green beans. My son had the small kids pizza as well as the mini corn dogs with fries. My kid loved his food, of course it was simple. I had a corny dog and fry, and they were cooked nice and crispy. I didn't have the pizza, but it looked good as well. My wife had the T-bone cooked to med-rare, and it was done well. I had a few bites and it was seasoned well, tender, and just all around delicious. The mashed potatoes I was leery about because I'd had them before and they were salty, but to my pleasant surprise, they were perfect. However, the mac and cheese was not a good choice. The spiral-type pasta reminded me of a Cici's pizza. It had an okay flavor, but the cheese was also very gritty and every bite had us trying to removed the residue from our teeth. My wedge salad was tasty, just the right amount of dressing and fresh. The green beans were a bit too tough, but at least they were fresh. Now my steak.. My $40 steak was terribly prepared. I asked for med-rare and was given an almost blue-rare steak; basically a cooked outside with a raw inside. It took some time to even get our servers attention. They finally took it back, and as I sat there I was sincerely hoping they weren't going to just take my cut steak and put it back on the grill and press it till done. They brought it back out, and that was exactly what they did. My steak was not juicy anymore from pressing it on the grill while already cut. A steak house should know not to do this. It had a slightly burnt taste from the grill pressing. That's not what you do when someone pays $40 for a steak. They should cooked a new steak. Sure they might take a loss, though I doubt it, but it's your job as a steak house to properly prepare the cuts of meat, and if it's down wrong, make a new one so the customer has a great experience still. I'm disappointed with the quality and service we had here this day, but I hope in the future if we were to ever return, perhaps it would be a more positive experience. read more

We had an excellent dinner here this evening from start to finish. Our waitress (Christie) was very friendly and prompt and all of the staff worked together in such harmony that you just felt well taken care of. The menu is pretty standard steakhouse fare without all the frills of some restaurants that have six page menu books with steak being sort of an afterthought (I'm talking to you Applebee's).....this menu seems to have a little more class and finesse than a lot of them and I liked their selections of cuts and options. The restaurant itself has a cozy feel to it that I liked....we do frequent Texas Roadhouses a lot but they can be VERY loud and boisterous and sometimes I just want to relax and have a steak without all the peanut shells, you know? Now the food.....it was some of the best steakhouse food I have ever had anywhere and that's saying a lot. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly and was so incredibly tender. My daughter had the kid's Mac and cheese and it wasn't Kraft! Amazing! My son didn't love his kid's sliders he said they were dry but he hates everything on earth so I took that with a grain of salt. I had the double bone pork chops with bacon jam and mashed potatoes. It was flawless. I have never had a pork chop cooked that perfectly. Even when I cook it myself (and I am a great cook IMO).... We also had their queso dip and it was so good! It has fresh herbs and spices and tomatoes and shredded brisket! I could have eaten that all night. And the chicken fajita soup I had as one of my sides was so good I would order it again and I never say that. The grilled shrimp was as equally well executed. I absolutely loved the balsamic vinagrette on my salad. Mixed it all to together for a delightful lunch and am already craving more. Upon entering the restaurant, I found the light level fairly low. I don't know if it was because of my eyes adjusting from coming in from the sunlight, or if it truly was a dark entry room... I was meeting up with some friends for lunch who had already been seated, so I slipped past the hostess stand to sit with my group. There was a menu and a drink menu in my vacant spot waiting for me. The waiter, seeing me arrive, came over and asked what I would like to drink. Not sure what I was in the mood for, I asked what sodas they had available. He began listing off the different carbonated beverages they had, and then told me that they had pink lemonade, or fresh, squeezed lemonade behind the bar. I opted for the fresh lemonade, crossing my fingers that I wasn't going to be puckering too badly by the time I left. The waiter brought me a glass of ice water, and then went to get my lemonade. When he returned, he set my drink before me. Gingerly, I leaned forward and took a sip of my yellow drink, and found it slightly, but not annoyingly sour. You could tell that it was, indeed, freshly squeezed but sweetened so as not to be overpowering to the taste buds. Lovely. My companions chose chicken strips with a baked potato, crab cakes with a small caeser salad, and I chose the hickory chicken with asparagus. (I know... Call me crazy!) Our meal arrived at the same time, and everything looked wonderful. I didn't get a chance to try my friend's foods, but I can certainly tell you about mine! The hickory chicken was fantastic. The chicken breast had a hard-hitting, char-grilled flavor to it. Beautifully moist and tender... It was topped with succulent mushrooms. Soft, but not overcooked. The mushrooms still had a nice chew to it, but not a rubbery, over-cooked texture. On top of that, was a piece of melted cheese and bacon bits... I know, just the sound of it makes you drool! However... The asparagus was a disgrace. It was tough, crunchy, and undercooked. The thick stalks of asparagus were sprinkled with a spice powder that did nothing for the flavor. I know that some people prefer their asparagus cooked to al dente, but they were practically raw! A big disappointment that costs an extra $1.99... Don't waste your two bucks. Overall, the waiter was very nice, helpful, and patient. We were also greeted and asked to come back by several staff members as we left. I would probably return to this restaurant again... Worst service I have ever got at a Salt Grass and definitely in my top 5 worst of all time. I gave two stars because the food was good. 15 minutes to get drinks, another 20 minutes before we could even order, add another 15 minutes just to get salads, and then another 20 minutes to get food. Oh, almost forgot to mention we had to beg another server for our check because our waiter was trying to go home. The server we pleaded with for a check brought out 4 checks and asked which one ours was. We paid with cash and left a hefty tip just to escape. We considered it a ransom payment so we could be free. Our quick dinner took right at 2 hours. During our stay we noticed two tables get up and walk out. Empty tables were staying dirty at least 20 minutes before they were bussed. Every one coming in was being sat in the bar because they were trying to close sections, at 7:30??? A table on one side of us never got their soup....seems it was getting cold on a tray on the other side of our table. *see pic. Another server brought it out and simple sat it down on a tray and walked away. Guess it was like show and tell but you can't eat it. We will have to go to a different Salt Grass next time. We visited here 10/28/18 at 6pm. We were seated quickly, our waitress was Stephanie and she was attentive and vey helpful of explaining drink ingredients on one of the cocktails. Our food seemed to take a while to come out and we were seated in the back left corner of the restaurant and it got very hot back there and the front of the restaurant was chilly I thought this was very odd. Also the back dinning room got so loud I couldn't hear conversation at my own table. The steak was okay cooked to how I ordered but not very flavorful. From start to finish this is quite a disappointing trip to this location. Normally the Salt Grass is really good but this time everything was pretty messed up. From the long wait time to get seated for a table to a server that didn't seem to know what he was doing despite having everything handed to him right away to our food not being exactly we ordered it was quite frustrating. I ordered a salad with no croutons because I can't have gluten only to have a salad come out with croutons and when I said hey please take this back someone manually picked out all the croutons leaving crust behind in the bowl. I had to grab another server a very kind blonde girl who took care of it and the manager gave me a new salad without any croutons and a completely new salad. When we finally got our food, they almost delivered it to the wrong table and we had to flag them down. When we finally did get it it was fine the food was great that's the only reason it's two stars but then they billed us for somebody else's meal and I had to go chase him down to fix that. Took forever to get a box to take my leftovers and by the time we were done it was just a long draining ordeal. It would have been nice if they had comped us something or at least sincerely done a better job but I don't think we'll be coming back to this location. read more
