So we reserve those for special occasions, and when we do have a craving for steak on a budget, this is our first choice. We came on a busy busy Sunday night. I typically try to avoid long waits, we were fortunate to get a table early. Saw a ton of people waiting outside. At the table, we were waiting for our server to place our drink orders for a good 10 mins and another 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. I don't blame our server as it was busy and it's not like he was slacking, he was pretty good, just super busy. Everything went pretty smooth once our drinks arrived and our orders were placed. The bread they give you to munch on is pretty nice, very soft. I upgraded to the wedge salad w my meal. It was a pretty good wedge. I was very satisfied with it. It had two types of dressings and the blue cheese went well w it. Next came my chicken fried steak. I've had many chicken fried steaks and for some reason I'm always never quite content w them. Either too much batter, not crispy, or not enough gravy. This one was no different. I think it was good, but the only problem was that it came out warm instead of hot. Like gravy solidifying -warm. I was just really eager to eat so didn't really feel like having them reheat it. Overall, experience was alright, I'm sure the experience would have been better had it not been that busy. Disappointed, we'd been there a solid 40 min. Ordered our drinks and dinner at the same time after about 10 Min. of being seated.. we ordered a Diet Coke with makers mark, and their signature Manhattan which boasts a correctly made Manhattan garnished with a black cherry. The first Manhattan took 20-25 minutes to deliver the second had two black Cherries to make up for lack of the first time which had none and took nearly as long. We ordered wedge salads and two "smothered 6 oz fillets". Took 20+min to get our first drink and another 20 to get our salads. Then about 15 min later came our fillets... one steak was under cooked and one was over done (one so overcooked that it tough)... if you prefer the "smothered fillet" and base it on what you see on the menu you might be disappointed as mine had two lone tiny mushrooms and about two tbls. of OVER grilled onion... beyond the point of caramelized ... my husband gave me his few tiny 4 mushrooms the size of a small standard marble... the restaurant was busy but not full at least not in our area near the fire pit and in View of the kitchen. Which brings me too.... From our seats I could see the kitchen and a sous chef handling the paper that basket fries and other fried foods land on then wipe his nose (at least three times) with his hand. Some food handlers were wearing gloves, Some were not. I knew he wasn't handling our food but as a momma and grandma I thought of how many children order those dishes. I should have said something to management. 2 times during our dinner we were approached by servers with food asking if something was our order... not impressed as a V.I.P member. Upon leaving I did mention to the manager the baseball cap, black frame eyeglasses sous chef's nose wiping habits... The managers response was....wait for it....okay". My first time back to Saltgrass in a few years, and the first experience for my Son. I was so excited to have a REAL steak again, rather than the crappy "steaks" in CA. I have to say, I was quite disappointed in the food. My steak was nearly burned and very dry. My Son's was undercooked, practically still "moo'ing." It took prob 15 minutes before we were approached for our drinks and order. Food took prob 30 minutes or longer to get to our table. Not sure I'd return again to this location. read more

Second time coming to Saltgrass. Food is always consistently good with generous portions. You have to try the baked sweet potato with honey butter. Ooh, so ono (delicious) as is said in the 808 state! Tastes like you are having another Thanksgiving feast! Atmosphere is cozy, but can get a bit noisy since the restaurant is busy. Good to see on a Saturday night. Service was personable, but since we were seated in the private seating area our wait time for our order was a bit delayed. No worries though it made the arrival of our food that much more appealing All and all very enjoyable place to have tasty food shared with friends in an atmosphere that is nice but not over the top in ambience and price. I had a Lunch Date last week and it started off with great service. However, it ended there because my date's Iced Tea tasted like dirt was in the water. We talked to the Waiter and Manager and they said the water and ice filters were good BUT every year for half the year the water was nasty? So, she got a coke and I got the $4 bottle of mineral water. I ordered the 10 ounce Ribeye with String Beans and Salad. Awesome vegetables but awful meat. WTH was that? Visiting Dallas, I was told this was a great place to grab a good steak. Service was less than average, food came out fast, steak was overcooked and mashed potatoes were the driest I ever had. I sat at the bar and despite having a bar-back and two bartenders, was ignored for about 10 minutes before someone asked if I was helped. Had one drink because I was never checked on until it was time to cash out. Food needed seasoning, but no one to help. Now, they were busy...however, at the bar, I expect better service. Friendly fast service. Great selection of food. Great value. The special they were promo'ing was not a special at all. Just a normal menu item. The cocktails had very little alcohol, they might as well be given to babies. With the rustic/western decor, most people were dressed casual. I love Saltgrass. Everything about Saltgrass. I will say this location is slow for service but good on food. I did have pretty stark errors in my salad. I ordered steak salad no potatoes with extra green beans (low carb). I asked for no vinaigrette but for blue cheese. So yes I admit some changes here. I got a salad covered in the sweet vinaigrette and no standard blue cheese crumbles. Had to send it back. It comes right back (same meat because had some vinaigrette still on meat). This time no blue cheese crumbles or the boiled egg. Those are standard in that salad. Anywho that got fixed and then it was delicious. The staff was great, but the food was terrible. Too many flaws to detail, but the prime rib was tough, salad dressing and au jus were horrible. Salt Grass food is great but tonight (the Salt Grass in Grapevine Texas) we had to wait over half an hour for curbside service that might have been longer if the woman in front wouldn't have gotten the folks inside the box up our food. She had no words other than she'll find the food and get it out to us. No comment on our 30+ minute wait. Salt grass was her choice of feel good food so we try to place order online as advertised on their site but the site was unable to process the order. Fine, we call and place the order over the phone. Go to pick it up, pay, tip, all the things. Get home, my MIL's entire meal is missing...the most important meal. Meanwhile she can't leave because post op, so the rest of us are trying to get the order remade since we have to go pick it up again so the food is dying on the counter. You would think that a steakhouse would know the difference between rare and well done. They were gracious enough to grab the plate and finish cooking the steak. The fried asparagus are amazing but that too we had to order twice because the first asparagus were soaking in salt. By the time my spouse finally got his food, I was done with mine. Despite the poor service, we had a great time. I could not help but to smile watching the little girl at the table next to us enjoy the butter. The place is loud but the ambiance is still enjoyable. Went in to the Grapevine location with two of my co-workers for lunch to celebrate the upcoming holidays. My two co-workers ordered a ribeye steak and I ordered a two bone pork chop, the waitress mistakenly put in a chopped steak, when the meals came out the mistake was corrected but when the pork chop was not out after another 40 minutes we called for the manager and explain the situation he offered to box up the pork chop to go, we explained that we came there to have a sit down meal and we had to go back to work he didn't offer to do anything to help the situation. Outstanding! Started with the fried mushrooms which were cooked perfectly and unlike many other restaurants they piled the mushrooms on. The salad was a good size with a nice variety of toppings.
