Walked into Saltgrass on Sheperd today to place a to go order from the HRW menu to enjoy for dinner with my 93 year old Mom. To my dismay, they were not able to accommodate a to go order from this menu as the very kind and apologetic manager Alex informed me. So I sat at a table, and decided I would pack each course as it came to my table. Not sure why the Saltgrass owner doesn't accommodate to go orders for HRW as other restaurants do, but all was made right by my beautiful and very capable server, Bree, who was not only welcoming and great at customer service, but she actually packed each course for me. She was so delightful to have as a server. I will be back to this location for dine in again and must have Bree as my server! It's a small and quaint (not exactly everything is bigger in Texas) location but we've had so many great meals here over the years! The quality control and management at this location is always on point! We usually like to be served by David if he is there, but this past Father's Day we were served by Bree who was a breeze of fresh and delightful air! She was not only so sweet and kind but an excellent server taking care of us and the tables around us. I have driven past this place for years and finally decided to try a Salt Grass! I was slightly confused by the back entrance. Also, they have you go through the kitchen to the front. I wasn't sure if I needed to put gloves on. lol. Anyhow, we ended up in the banquet hall. Our waiter provided excellent service as he checked on us frequently. Our food was out in a good amount of time. We were provided with recommendations from the menu. I opted for the lunch special which was the steak and potato. My happy hour drink was ok! A Cosmo. The mashed potatoes were really good and the steak was good. I also received a salad as part of my meal. I enjoyed my first experience at a Salt Grass and I plan on trying others. read more

We decided to split an order, 1st course was a house salad which was so refreshing and had tasty crunchy croutons in it. Second course was shrimp cocktail which was delish with a lil heat to jump start your palate. 3rd course was a sirloin steak with grilled shrimp. Steak was cooked to perfection, and the grilled shrimp was seasoned and grilled just right. 4th course was a cheesecake served with strawberry compote and White chocolate sauce. So, we came here on a Thursday with very big appetites paired with a good amount of excitement to end our family day with a warm, affordable meal. Unfortunately, that excitement gradually dwindled as we left Salt Grass disappointed and annoyed. Upon our arrival, we had a little wait, which we were beyond understanding of. However, once we were seated and our waiter essentially forgot about our table, the annoyance levels rose. It took our waiter over 15 to 20 minutes to come back to our table. Additionally, the prompting that alerted our waiter to come back to our table was initiated after we had to ask another waiter to take our orders as our drink order had not yet been taken and our waiter had not yet come back to check on our table. After our drink orders were finally taking via another waiter, one of our drinks then came back wrong, which added disappointment to the annoyance. Then there was our food. My sister's steak came back undercooked and my steak was just not appetizing. Overall, this was a very poor experience, one that plants a seed to avoid this Salt Grass. read more

For dinner, she ordered the filet with mashed potatoes, and I had the bone-in ribeye with a baked potato. I went with the Caesar salad, while she chose the garden salad. I had a White Cosmopolitan, which was good, and she ordered a drink I can't quite remember--so it must've done its job . The star of the night was the steak. My ribeye was cooked exactly how I requested--medium well--and it was flavorful and satisfying. Overall, it was a solid first visit. The food delivered, the atmosphere was easygoing, and while the service started a little slow, it improved.
