I liked my lunch at the Amara resort Saltrock restaurant in a beautiful mountain view, with tasty food and helpful service. The dining room is plain, bright and airy but I got to sit outside to take in the majestic Sedona mountains. I had the Mexican Hot Chicken Sandwich - it was hot more from cooking than the spices. This tasty sandwich had different flavors going on like a poblano cheese sauce and adobo. My dish also came with thick and indulgent french fries. SaltRock caters to so many types of visitors. It is slightly fancy and has elevated dining, which makes it a great place for date night. AND it is dog and kid-friendly (we saw two dogs and multiple kids). I had the steak tacos, which were just OK. The star of my meal were the cocktails - all made with intention, and a lot of balanced flavor. The staff was very attentive, high energy, and added to the experience. And there is a somewhat obstructed view of the Sedona mountains that enhanced the vibe, for sure. Downsides: You are near the hotel pool, which added some noise here and there. AND the parking situation was not ideal for our family; they have complimentary valet (but since we had expensive items in our car, we opted for self-park) and self-park is up a huge hill, with no sidewalk to walk up or down (you have to walk in the middle of the driveway, which felt unsafe). read more

Starting with a craft cocktail at the bar in advance of dinner, the experience started off exceptionally well, and it got even better when seated for dinner on the beautiful outdoor dining area. Cool evening temps nearly discouraged us from dining outdoors, but with plenty of heaters, fire pits, and (perhaps the nicest touch) being offered a warm blanket to stave off any chill, we were not only comfortable but also very glad we remained on the patio for our nearly 2 hour food extravaganza. Live music from a very talented guitarist/vocalist elevated the experience further. Service was highly attentive but not at all intrusive. Everyone's food tastes being different, I'll refrain from suggesting what you might order. I can say my meal of short ribs was good to the last bite, served with small potatoes and grilled carrots. I suspect that anything on the menu will meet your high standards. As an added bonus, as the sky darkened after sunset, a telescope and expert was on hand and inviting to anyone wanting a closer view of the beautiful Sedona sky. So our dinner got off to a rough start. We had a reservation, arrived 5 minutes before, was told our table was almost ready but then we waited and waited. Maybe it wasn't that long but as we were waiting a couple who didn't have a reservation but stated they were staying at the hotel sat down before us. Interesting, I guess because we were not staying at the Amara hotel our reservation didn't matter. I brought this to the host attention who then told me I could sit outside or wait 10 minutes for a table. No apologies at all. Once we did sit down it definitely went uphill from there, prompt service by our waiter, our water glasses were never left empty, food was fabulous. Ordered the crab empanadas, corn ribs, beef short ribs and scallops and pork belly. Ate everything on the plate. Just truly every bite was delicious. This restaurant has been uneven, and since the new chef was installed, is now just not very good. First, you need to know that it is pricey. Lunch for two people was $100, with no drinks. So you would expect that everything would be perfect, but it wasn't. Tacos were $26. They were good but pricey. What was the total disappointment was the shrimp and grits. This is a very pricey dish, $34 for a lunch entrée. And it's meager enough that I would consider it to be an appetizer, not a main dish. It's especially disappointing because last time we were there, a year ago, it was the star of the menu, and now it is just not good. The service was poor also. Our waiter spills water in the table while waiting us, and does not clean it up! I had to grab a napkin from another table setting and clean up after him. The outdoor dining location is lovely. But we concluded it is better to just sit there and order some drinks, and not try to eat, because the dining experience just does not at all come up to the prices involved. read more

Ate here for dinner one night. We sat on the patio it was nice they had some live music. They also offer blankets if you're cold. Our service was good and the food as well. I got the butternut squash soup very delicious and also a Ceasar salad. My daughter got the carne asada tacos which she loved I like the rice and beans on the side it was very flavorful. Only thing I wouldn't recommend is the quesa birria tacos it was very plain , not cheesy and floppy. My husband had to get something else unfortunately. We stayed the weekend at the Amara Resort and had dinner at SaltRock. We enjoyed beautiful red rock views from the patio. The entire resort is pet friendly so we had our dog with us. He sat with us under the table. SaltRock has seasonal menus. We enjoyed their signature margaritas. I had a southwestern style salad, then a scallop dish. Everything was delicious. The only thing lacking was the patio tables themselves. The outdoor patio is just tables placed outside. The view is stunning so I'm assuming they don't feel like it needs much, but it would go along way to make it look more like a dinning area than just outdoor tables placed on the patio. Relaxed meal, and oh! The view! Salt Rock is off of the main drag, down the hill, just far enough away. I went for lunch, they offer a concise menu, and reasonable price point for the area and environment. The service is fantastic, really the best, friendliest staff. Between the service and the view, it was a good choice for lunch. I had the fish tacos, they were solid and a good portion of fish, but flour tortillas, and I have had better. I'm not a big fan of purple cabbage, but that's me. The rice and black beans were better than your average Mexican restaurant. Overall, it was a good experience, I would return. read more

The scenery on the patio is beautiful at dusk. The restaurant is at a hotel so the atmosphere is lively. There was live music playing. The cocktails and dishes were delicious. If you're debating between going to SaltRock or going to another restaurant, you should really choose SaltRock. The staff were really accommodating. For example, they helped us move to a patio table in better proximity to a heater. They got water and menus to our table quickly, and checked in at regular but unobtrusive intervals so that our needs were met before we even noticed. Our water glasses never went dry, and we spent the morning hiking; we were seriously going through water. Our water, Alejandro, was excellent. He was super knowledgeable about the menu. My boyfriend asked him for recommendations from within the seafood menu, and he gave a super concise yet comprehensive overview that added information that wasn't on the menu. He talked about the size of each cut of fish, the way each one was cooked, the sauce used, and all other pertinent information. My boyfriend used to work at restaurants and he is the most critical foodie I know, and he was really impressed by the overview because it gave him a good and exact understanding of each item, and with that understanding he knew exactly what he wanted to order. Also, Alejandro brought us blankets because we were sitting on the patio and it was cold. But with the blankets, we stayed comfortable for all 90 minutes of our outdoor meal. The dinner was that long only because we kept ordering more food. For appetizers, I ordered the stuffed yuca fritters and my bf ordered the shrimp ceviche. Both were excellent. The fritters were a bit small (only three quarter sized fritters) but perfectly crispy and full of warm, melty cheese. The shrimp ceviche was good too! I'm not a ceviche person, but I liked it despite myself. For main courses, I ordered the smoked chicken achiote. The chicken was succulent and Smokey, the sauce really pulled all the flavors together. The skin was crispy. I ate everything on my plate. My BF ordered the scallops and pork belly. He really liked them, and I tried a bite and liked them too! They were both really well cooked. The pork belly was juicy and the whole thing was on a nice bed of cooked greens. Then we got desert. We split the banana butter cake and the guyaba flan. I totally thought guyaba and guava were the same thing. They are not. Guyaba is soursop, and soursop is creamier and mellower than the more floral guava. When I say we split the deserts, I mean my bf was too full to go on and I ate the majority of the desert. I admittedly didn't try very hard to coax him to eat more desert. I was happy to finish it off myself. Last thing to note: their mocktails are really good! Neither bf nor I drink, so having excellent mocktails as a menu item made us happy. And the mocktails were really legit and tasted like cocktails. read more

The pear salad and pork belly were quite good. Off to great start but I was wrong. The turkey dinner offered a nice variety but it was just not appetizing. Turkey with gravy, stuffing, sweet yams with pecans, green beans with fried onions, mash potatoes and side of cranberry sauce. Nothing stood out. It was all mass produced and frankly tasted like what could be served at a food bank. Buffets in Vegas would have tasted better. We took our dessert to go because it was getting too cold and they didnt have heat lamps for upstairs. Overall, dinner was $400 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Not worth it at all. read more

Beckoning you with gorgeous views for your IG worthy pictures, the menu will keep you seated for hours with no care in the world to move! Nothing but wonderful staff to service your needs. Attentive but not intrusive. Always ready to give you recommendations on cocktails or menu items to partake. I may have possibly dined for all three meal options: breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the side of happy hour. The street corn and truffle fries are great for nibbling and waiting on your main course. If you are doing breakfast, their berry coconut juice and green smoothi are a healthy way to start the day before a hike. I also love the salmon and capers bagel for that extra protein and carbs. Warning... I am super bias and partial to the lobster al pastor tacos and jackfruit tacos. I could eat these two nonstop 24/7... THAT GOOD!!!!!! I do believe they are seasonal so check the menu for current offerings. If you come for dinner, snag a spot by the firepits. So lovely to catch the sunsets and gaze at the stars. There's spots for cornbags and canoodling since they will have music until 10pm to be respective of guests overlooking the area. Being in the desert, feed that thirst so hydrate with either the Prickly Pear Margarita or the Sun Devil Margarita. Both pair well with the chili lime fries. I strongly believe you should take a vacation each day. And that means coming to SaltRock for a cocktail and carbs to remind you why unplugging from work is essential to your mental game. read more

***4 1/2 stars*** This was SO close to perfect. SaltRock had been on our radar the whole time we were in Sedona, largely because of a very legit cocktail menu, specifically the margaritas (which my top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality is a noble connoisseur of). On our final night, we spent an insane amount of time pondering our options - we'd had some pretty meh meals up until then and wanted to go out with a bang and not mess it up. Ultimately, we settled on SaltRock, which was probably the right decision since it ended up being our best meal here. The biggest annoyance about SaltRock is its location. It's not on that main drag in Sedona so to actually get to it on foot, you have to awkwardly walk down a steep driveway past two or three levels of parking garages down to the Amara Resort & Spa, where it's located off their lobby. Honestly, if I hadn't done my research and really studied the maps, I don't think the signage for this place was good enough to find it, especially given that there isn't a sidewalk to access this from the road. And this is quite literally a two-way street, so once you'd had your fill of food and drink, guess what? You have to walk back up to the downtown area. Not the best, and I'd probably recommend driving at least partway down to negate some of that. The vibe here was not what I expected. I honestly assumed this was going to be higher end than it was (no disrespect intended toward the resort), but this is a pretty mid-tier hotel, and because it's so far down in one of the canyons, the views aren't quite as good as you would get at a place like The Vault, which to me is the cream of the crop when it comes to the scenery as you sip your beverage. We were led outside to a table, which was sort of in a public patio area that allowed access to some of the young pup guests; not the greatest atmosphere in that regard either, but it wasn't terrible. The star of the show was unsurprisingly a cocktail. I was intrigued by the description of the Cactus Bird Clarified ($21), which referenced a milk punch. Figured it was worth gambling on, and I was right. This was an all-timer for me. The waitress mentioned that the clarification process was something that was utilized decades if not centuries earlier, where milk was basically poured through the cocktail to soften up some of the stronger tastes (hopefully that makes sense and is close to being correct with respect to mixology terminology), and the result was amazing. It makes the beverage smoother, so it's sort of like the Evian of cocktails. Just delicious, and despite a pretty obscene price tag, I ordered a second one. The food was great too. We split two apps - the ahi tuna tostadas and the guac. I was a little nervous about getting seafood in a landbound state, but the tuna was super fresh and tasty. The guac, as you can see in the accompanying picture, is an insanely large serving with three heaping scoops, and that was really good too. I don't like crunchy/chunky guac, and this was right on the line for me but didn't go over. For my entree, I opted for the Roasted Chicken, which hit the spot. The chicken was juicy, tender and flavorful, and the accompanying sides - for me, notably the chipotle sauce - were perfect complements. We had a fantastic waitress, honestly one of the best I've had in recent memory. She had a great personality, authentic opinions about the menu (I always give points when a waitress immediately admits that she hasn't tried a dish or doesn't care for it) and regularly visited. She was a huge reason this was a very positive experience. So why can't I go a full five stars here? Beyond the awkward location and atmosphere (and I'm not sure they can do a lot about that without removing themselves from the resort), we largely decided to come here ahead of a few other intriguing restaurants because the dessert menu looked really good. The online menu boasted (and still does) a red wine chocolate spice cake that sounded incredible. But when we got to the dessert portion of the meal? Our waitress admitted it wasn't on the menu anymore. In 2024 when a lot of potential customers are going to make a decision off of the online menu - keep in mind this again is not on the main road where you have the luxury of casually eyeing the menu on the sidewalk - there's just no excuse for not updating the website. Huge miss in my view. This is still a really good restaurant and IS worth the walk down (and up). read more

We tried to get a table at SaltRock after the pink jeep tour, tired and hungry. The receptionist told us "We only take reservation." Which turned out to be not true, as your resort only states "Reservations are recommended." Then we went back to our room and would like to order room service. Oh boy. Same receptionist. He told us "We only provide room service for breakfast." Which turned out to not true again, as your resort states " Room service is available during restaurant business hour." I'm much appreciated when we called the resort desk service, the staff was able to order the room service for us finally. Then the server who brought us the food, didn't say anything, just put the tray on the table and handed us the bill. He even didn't say anything about the automatic tips charges, so we doubled tips. read more

SaltRock originally caught my eye due to the beautiful, dog friendly patio. They also offer free valet parking for guests. Unfortunately the service was lackluster, and the food was nothing special. We ordered the Roasted Corn Soup, Skillet Street Corn, Seared Scallops, and Short Rib Tacos. The appetizers came out quickly, but the entrees took about 45 minutes to arrive which seemed like a long time to prepare 4 tacos and 4 scallops. The soup was actually delicious, and the corn and tacos were good. The scallops, however, were not evenly cooked - two of them (pictured) were severely overcooked to the point where the burnt flavor became overpowering. I let our server know and she did not seem apologetic or offer to comp anything, she just said she would let the chef know. Pretty disappointing considering the scallops were $40. The food and views were spectacular. The service was where this placed lacked. I sat outside in front of the water feature looking out at the rock formation (Snoopy & Lucy). It took awhile until my server came over and greeted me. I ordered an appetizer and drink and later on put in my entree. To decide, my order I asked what was a favorite and went along with those options. I ate the pork belly tostada and the tiger shrimp tamale which were both delicious. I noticed how enthusiastic the server in the area next to mine was. Really explaining each dish when a customer had a question and talked about the view/area they were in. My server was very quiet. What really hindered my experience was not even being halfway through the appetizer when my main entree came out. I wasn't sure if I should scarf down my appetizer so I can eat my entree hot or let the appetizer get cold so I can fully enjoy my entree. I know it sounds weird - well, if you're someone like me. I'm Hispanic and make flan myself, so at first it sounded intimidating/ like it would be horrible , but it is one of the best things I've ever tasted! My husband also is not a dessert person. The best thing about this restaurant is the servers. They run out of simple breakfast items such as bagels, sausage, rosemary bread, etc. Paying $20 for a piece of whole wheat bread with avocado, tomatoes, arugula and an egg seems like highway robery.
