This is a fairly fancy Mexican joint, the food was fantastic but a little pricey...I mean it's Mexican! Wait staff was friendly but a little wishy/washy with timing as our appetizer (grilled shrimp thingy which was great!) and main dishes came faster than cocktails! We then had a wait to get our final bill, I had to stroll back towards to kitchen, trying to give the "someone go find my waiter" vibe before I had to speak up. I didn't want to do that. Margaritas were a little sweet, and the tequila selection was fairly good. The food was standout though! We got two versions of the street tacos and were plenty full! The guacamole was really flavorful and fresh -- not too salty at all, with fresh tomatoes and onions that made it super good. Good location and right in the main shopping area of Sedona, 89Agave was an easy lunch stop. After hiking and wandering around downtown, we were craving Mexican food, and a friend recommended this spot. We came in ravenous and left totally satisfied. No food photos because we were too hungry and everything looked too good to wait. I had the chicken enchiladas with both green and red sauce -- super fresh and full of flavor. My friends ordered the tamales and chicken tacos and enjoyed theirs as well. The rice and beans that come with the entrées weren't anything special, and I wish the sides had a bit more flavor. Our waiter Eric was cool and we enjoyed his service but this is not a place to watch a game. There is only one tv and it's super small and the volume is too low. You can only see it from the bar area and a couple of other seats. Why not invest in a bigger tv to bring in a crowd who wants to watch sports ? TVs now days are very cheap. My family and I were in Sedona for a helicopter ride that my husband purchased. We stayed the night at this great little hotel and decided to go out for dinner. We stumbled upon this place and we are really glad that we did! The appetizers were phenomenal! I gave it four stars because my enchiladas were just OK. I've had better. However, the Elote corn appetizer, and the grilled shrimp were a huge hit with the family! My husband had the shrimp tacos and he loved them. My stepson had fajitas and he thoroughly enjoyed them as well. I tasted the fajita meat and it was delicious! My daughter-in-law had the Carne Asada enchiladas and she thoroughly enjoyed them as well. Our granddaughter had a quesadilla and she liked that too. This place is a lot roomier than you would think. Patio seating in front or back. Nice ambiance. Service was good. We had fajitas and they were superb. Seriously, really tasty. I came here as a group of 4 for a mid-day lunch. The inside had a wall of different jarritos soda which was I thought was cute. Our server was nice and continually checked on us. I enjoyed my carne asada tacos. It had an inner layer of fried cheese which I loved. I wasn't a big fan of the rice and beans that came with the tacos. I feel like they didn't really have any flavor. I came here with three friends for dinner during the Sedona yoga festival. Even though we didn't have reservations, we were able to get a table in about 15 minutes. We started with beautiful, fun, and tasty mocktails and fully enjoyed our meal. So much so that we also split two desserts. The churros are deliciously memorable! I had high expectations for their food because they came highly recommended by a few locals , but sadly I was not impressed with my entree. I had the birria street tacos with rice and beans . The platter came out looking like the tacos had been microwaved. I was expecting hard shells but they were soft shells seemingly dripped in sauce...The birria was very salty and so was the dipping sauce . The cheese had begun to coagulate when it was cooling down . The beans were tasteless and portions of the rice were hard/uncooked. Maybe this was a one off? Stacey was my server and she was very sweet and attentive . When I left , the hostess seemed to be distracted on her phone and did not look up when I exited. 89Agave Cantina was a surprise hit during our visit to Sedona. They have a cute outdoor patio and plenty of seating inside. When we visited, a band was playing inside and it was a bit loud so we opted for the patio. My mom ordered the margarita flight and enjoyed most of the tastings. I think there was one that was watermelon mango that was so-so. My sister ordered the prickly pear margarita and loved it. For apps, we ordered the table side guacamole which was delicious. However, we requested no jalapeño but it was still in there. Not a huge deal though. For our entrees, we got the carne asada tacos, enchiladas and tamales. Go with the green sauce on your enchiladas--trust me. We all enjoyed our entrees. Our server was friendly but seemed to completely disappear at times, but still fast service. This spot was super yummy!!! We stopped in for a quick bite, and were amazed at the quality of the food. I have to be careful with food due to lots of allergies (wheat and nuts). We had the Elote and Guacamole with chips for an appetizer - chips were fresh, crunchy and a great size. The elote was very tasty with sweet corn great seasonings. Guacamole was also delicious with chunks of tomato and jalapeno. For the main course we had the street tacos. I was expecting standard street tacos, but was very surprised to find that these street tacos have melted cheese under the meat!! Wow, they were amazing. I would highly recommend this spot for gluten sensitivity, and for those looking for a great lunch spot. Our server, Kim, went above and beyond. She was funny and checked in on us multiple times. When we arrived, the hostess immediately demanded we sit outside (in the cold), and didn't give us the option to sit inside although there were many tables. As there were heaters this was okay, but still a bit chilly for a November evening. The food was pretty good, they did mess up my order when I requested no cheese, but they were able to remake it pretty quickly. We had the Baja Shrimp Tacos and Pork Tamales with rice and beans. Shrimp Tacos were great, the Pork Tamales were average. Part of the way through our dinner one of the servers closed the door to the inside which meant we were sitting in both the cold AND the quiet. We stopped in here yesterday as we had a little bit of time before our Sedona trolley tour. We definitely had a quick but fabulous dining experience! We sat outdoors and Stephen one of the bartenders was our server. He did an outstanding job as he was personable, efficient, and understood we were under a tight deadline. With the perfect amount of spice that gave it a little kick. I ordered the jalapeño margarita and it was excellent. I certainly enjoyed the fact that they do not use the bottled sweet sour mix. They use fresh lemon and lime and it made for great margaritas. My friend ordered one of the specialty margaritas. I can't remember which one. But she definitely liked it. My wife had the tamale and same thing. 2 days later the nachos had far few too chips and again very little meat and almost no cheese. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen is doing a great job of making money for the owner by skimping on ingredients. Do yourself a favor and go to Canyon Breeze next door. They were hustling but still took time to be personable, kind, and check in on us.
