I sent in a Mondaine Automatic watch for repair. It took about 6 weeks which is actually a good turnaround, What was exceptional was the repair and the corresponding accuracy which exceeded my expectations. I made periodical inquires about the watch as is was still new to my wrist and Brianna always got back to me with courtesy and the latest update.

The vibe I got during a repair completed by Saltzman's Watches was they don't seem very interested in repairing watches like the Luminox Navy Seal I sent them. I base this on a lack of unsolicited updates I received from their staff and a failure to reply to my message to them, with a photo, of the broken band they returned to me. They fixed the watch a little outside of the expected time (around 11 weeks compared to quoted 8 weeks), did a complete repair, but returned it with a broken band. I did not ship it with a broken band. Perhaps Saltzman's believes this watch is beneath their attention. I buy Luminox Navy Seal watches usually every 4-5 years. I work a lot with my hands, in many conditions, plus I'm a backpacker. These watches hit a sweet spot of durability, varied condition usefulness, and time-keeping accuracy for me for an everyday watch. I usually pay in the $275-$350 range per watch. I have a collection of 6-8 nonworking Luminox watches. As should be clear, I'm a fairly loyal buyer of this brand. I sent my watch to Saltzman's because Luminox directed me there. Saltzman's fixed it at a slightly higher price than quoted ($181.98 versus $75). Granted this was based on an unexpected case replacement (charged $67.30 for this) but I didn't expect the $35 handling charge. I'm someone who tries to reduce my waste footprint by repairing anything I can. I am quite willing to pay extra for appliances and other purchases based on whether I can repair, or have repaired, the purchase. I seek out brands (Sebo vacuum cleaners, the old Baratza grinders, etc.) based on an ethos of "repair rather than landfill". I was hoping this was the case with my Luminox Navy Seal watches. Saltzman's doesn't seem to be the right vendor for this sort of solution.

Popped in for a new battery for my watch and they took care of it. It cones with a 3 year warranty! They must be a popular place because I have never seen so many people in a watch store!!!!

I got the watch back and even though I asked for a polish (cap gold) that didn't seem to happen. I asked when they called for me to pick up the watch. The response was "I think he did what he could". Odd response it is gold it will polish beautifully but nope. Here is where it gets interesting. I wore the watch for about a week. I also wore a Chronoswiss on my other wrist. The Chronoswiss lost no time in a week. The Grand Seiko lost more than 20 min in a week after just being fully serviced at a very premium price. I called and again I got a less than friendly response and a "well bring it in and they will look at it and decide if they will do anything". Seriously? I paid for service and what I actually got was a cheap $8 watch band for $50 and a plastic crystal and they did nothing else to the watch. I did not want to drive an hour and a half to drop the watch off and it is in the opposite direction of work. This watch should be losing seconds in a week not a healthy part of an hour. I brought the watch to my local jeweler who sends them out to a watch maker. I got it back and sure enough it was not cleaned nor adjusted at all by Delman. I gave the jeweler instruction to get very specific feedback from the watch maker. I wanted to be sure it was not my fault like it got moisture in it since I wore it all week. He said it needed a good cleaning and proper lubrication, and he said there was no evidence of moisture. I just simply got taken or they are just incompetent. Either way I will not use them again. I am a collector and have watches serviced at least a dozen times a year. I have never been treated as rudely or had such poor results from a true watch maker in my life. I read through a few reviews as I was typing this. It seems like if you just have a quartz watch that needs a battery, they can do that and then you will leave 5 stars. That sort of also rings as unusual. Who leaves a review about a battery change? Know who else can change a watch battery the 16-year-old kid in the mall kiosk. If you are a watch collector and enthusiast and you know watches and their service, you will notice there is something not right here. They are rude from the start, and it goes downhill from there. I do not believe they are trained watch makers or they just are scammers. There is no other way to explain my experience that I can come up with.

I had a friend of mine tell me that her fiancee got her ring at Baxter's, so i put that feather in my hat. I "snuck out" and went to Baxter's thinking I was just going to inquire about a ring but I ended up walking out with a slip and a down payment on a ring! The staff at Baxter's couldn't of been any better to me. They had beverages, a cozy couch to sit on, and most importantly WORKED WITHIN MY BUDGET. I was looking at a princess cut ring, but it was WAYYY out of my budget. Fortunately, the awesome people at Baxter's got a smaller diamond from the back and even let me use the glasses to inspect the diamond as they explained it to me. There was no "shadiness" with them. They really put me first. After I proposed to her, we went in and got her ring sized to fit. They're customer service was just like when I went in and they adjusted her ring for free. All 3 of them needed new batteries, so I figured I'd try the Speidel store, since it was so conveniently located for me. The store is attractively set up, with lots of windows and natural light a it's on a corner (no photos since the store clerk and I were the only ones in a modest space & it felt awkward to start snapping away before I asked for service). It has some really fun watches on display for sale, many of them priced under $50, and a nice collection of what they label "scrub" watches for nurses, with large and clear to read faces, for just about $30 each. They also sell replacement bands, which I didn't think I needed. I was told that one watch didn't seem to have a back that could come off, so the battery couldn't be replaced. I left my other 2 watches and went to run errands. When I came back, I got the bad new that they could replace only one of the batteries since the back on the other looked like it wasn't replaced correctly so it was wedged in. The clerk directed me to Saltzman's Watches in Cranston when I asked what I should do with those 2 watches she couldn't fix. So, 4 stars for a very nice store to stop in if you're looking to buy something that isn't a high end watch; closer to 3 stars for advertising repairs that they could offer in only a limited range of situations.

We've had the same jeweler in Houston for decades who custom made all the jewelry we were wearing which the man who forced our detour away from the salesperson we wanted apparently missed as he looked us up and down yet apparently found us wanting. He was disinterested from the start, despite depriving us of the saleslady we wanted. He never let us past the first display case of diamonds. When I asked about other gems, he told me one of the dumbest things I've ever heard--that colored stones are more expensive than diamonds. This blanket statement is so absurd on its face as to be unworthy of discussion. Whether he meant it to be insulting or merely dismissive, it served its purpose to make us leave. Instead, we went to MRT in East Providence. They are awesome! We found a lovely ring and discussed a few future purchases as well as the design for a new sapphire and diamond ring. We found a new jeweler after all but will never step foot in Providence Diamond again, not even to have my Rolex or Baume & Mericier, either of Mom's Baume & Merciers or her Tag Heuer cleaned.
