This is another restaurant in a weird spot that I would mistake for an office space, but that has a charming interior. The acoutics were not great and the cacophony of sound from the full house of diners was a bit deafening. Server, Travis, was great from start to finish, and answered all questions about the menu and also took care of a major issue with my halibut dish that was so loaded with salt that it was impossible to eat. When I mentioned it, he addressed it right away and switched it for a pappardelle dish that was great. Other standout dishes were the paella, tater tots with caviar, and the fried green tomatoes. We tried the Country pate, and that was good, but it just didn't wow us. I would avoid the halibut because of the massive amount of salt. We loved the cocktails that we had, Pink Panther, Black Manhattan and the Elderflower Old Fashioned. Additionally , we got a nice bottle of Montes Alpha . They have a very nice selection of wines and there will be something for everyone. A great spot for Dallas dining. read more

My late husband and I used to go to Salum for special occasions and bringing our out of town friends for dinner. I haven't been to Salum since my husband passed away, and, based on how my friend and I were treated, I won't be going back anytime soon. The menu hasn't changed much since I was last there. Drinks are good, service dependable. My friend and I ordered the fried green tomatoes with crab. Different appetizer offering, but, nothing outstanding. I ordered the lamb chops, which I've always ordered when at Salum. My friend ordered the filet, and said it was good, but nothing special. On prior visits, Chef Salum always paid our table a visit. Now, that seems relegated to his more bougie clientele. The restaurant was not crowded, so, I find this to be an onerous oversight. As much as I wanted to relive the happier experiences my late husband and I shared at Salum, I'll be spending my money elsewhere. read more

I'm notorious for holding grudges against popular restaurants in Dallas. For eateries that I've frequented which have gained a reputation for their menu, ambience, or simply the place to see and be seen and they've been around long enough, sooner or later, they'll do something to raise my ire. And when they do, there's a good chance that I'll never darken their door again. It might be that one night of neglectful service (that's the big one) or reservations that really mean an hour wait or being seated next to the kitchen after they previously promised a specific table. I could rattle off a list of joints that most people love that I've learned to hate. However, for Salum, despite being open for over 15 years and dozens of visits that I've made since they first threw open the doors, I've always had a consistently great experience. They've never landed on my naughty list. Salum's easy on the eyes with a full bar and an open kitchen. It's perhaps a twenty-table affair, give or take. The crowd has generally been a little tony...maybe due to it's location close to the Park Cities. The menu is characterized as American contemporary with a selection of small plates, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I've never been dissatisfied with a dish; my last selection was a baked Moroccan Chicken over roasted vegetables and saffron yoghurt. It was a hit. Service is prompt and I can't recall a flaw that I can remember when I put on the ole thinking cap. Parking is a little tight, but they have valet (at least when we've been there), so why do you care? Perhaps, one of the best endorsements for the joint was recently heard from one of the valet attendants who indicated they've never heard a complaint from a guest. So two thumbs up for Salum. Service was excellent. They're very attentive and were so kind to help when we side-eyed a few things on food We had heard the fish & chips were amazing here so decided to come for that. Each plate came out overcooked but they quickly took it back to the kitchen and replaced it when we asked about it. Filet mignon was good, but the chimichurri really took it to the next level. And the potatoes on the side were so good!! The salmon was a bit more undercooked than I would have preferred (make sure to tell them how you'd like it cooked if they don't ask) and the orzo/tomatoes that came with it were flavorful and tasted good. Ambiance is nice, but I wish the restaurant had been more busy. Probably our fault though since we came on a Wednesday! I bet this is a nice place on the weekend! read more

I called ahead to see if reservations were needed because it was already 9pm. The lady that answered the phone was very nice. We arrived 15 minutes later, and she sat us quickly. I was skeptical about how the food would taste, but the menu offered enough for me to eat. I have a lot of food allergies. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were stuffed with crab and topped with a red pepper remoulade. It wasn't my favorite item because it lacked flavor. The mussels, however, were delicious. I got them as a main; they were topped with crispy potato strings and were full of flavor. My husband enjoyed the beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes. We were both pleasantly surprised. I like strong tasty drinks, and the Ward Eight didn't disappoint. I had 2. We ended dinner with carrot cake. It was ok. Definitely could have been more moist. Appetizer of fried green tomatoes stuffed with crab was quite tasty. Mains - was a mixed review. The scallops were amazing - buttery delicate morsels. But they were sitting on dirt. Ok, it was actually lentils and corn. But to say they didn't pair well with the scallops is an understatement. Might be fine in their own if they'd been seasoned but as they were they were very bland. The lamb was horribly overcooked. So sad! Pretty dry and again they were not well seasoned. But the mushroom bread pudding was divine!! I could have eaten three and been happy. It was certainly the highlight of the meal!! Side dish we tried was risotto. The risotto itself was pretty good - creamy and perfectly cooked. But served with black beans and not even a hint of herbs... or butter... or shallots or even enough salt. Very underwhelming! I've had better beans and rice at a cheap Mexican restaurant! Dessert was ok but quite pedestrian. Brownies with dried cherries and a tiny scoop of ice cream. Service was stellar!! Overall, I was very disappointed considering the reviews I'd heard and the price point. No alcohol and the tab for 2 was over $130. I would not go back again. I don't normally write reviews about a wedge salad, but I had a really good wedge salad today. I didn't take photos, but I wish I had. I really like the dressing and the fact that it wasn't too creamy. I love a good creamy blue cheese but this one being a little sinner it coded nearly all the layers of the lettuce perfectly versus me having to cut the whole thing up and mix it together the pancetta was delicious and I like the blue cheese that had some tangy flavor, but wasn't overbearing to the salad the shrimp was a nice addition too. A truly memorable birthday dinner date night right before Christmas. (And you'd think all of those factors put into one night would make your head explode) Mussels have been the perfect starter for us especially on these colder nights. There was a special for the day, a noodle dish, which my significant other absolutely adored. The only real drawback is that the name leaves me. One of the best meals I had this past year. I actually won a gift card here through a contest and went in with almost no expectations. We literally looked up the menu on the way to the restaurant. We were running late so we called and the person who answered the phone was so kind and understanding. I believe the person who sat us was the executive chef and I couldn't believe it, he was so friendly and personable that just set the tone for the whole evening. The outside of the restaurant did have me a bit nervous it just looked like a regular parking lot but I stepped inside and immediately felt welcomed. The lighting was dim and warm which created an intimate atmosphere that was perfect for our date night. I would consider this a smaller restaurant but I think that's what they're going for and I enjoyed it. We started off with the fried green tomatoes, I've only had them in a fast food type setting so I was very pleased to see these. They were a much larger (full tomato slice) portion with a generous amount of coating which gave them a wonderful crunch, the remoulade was so good! I forget the cocktails we tried but altogether we had three and we're very happy (and buzzed) with them. For entree I had the rack of lamb, I've never had lamb before and decided to go for it and it was a great choice, very juicy and tender. The mushroom bread pudding that came with it was stellar, I'd eat that all on its own. My wife had the halibut and seemed to enjoy it as well. Although we were stuffed we still ordered dessert. The bourbon bread pudding was delicious, I especially liked the additions of chocolate mousse and crème anglaise to compliment it were perfection. read more

We dined here on a Tuesday night with a last minute reservation, and we had an excellent time! What we got: - oysters rockefeller (Baked Spinach, Herbs, Pernod and Breadcrumbs): very delicious! we're usually not fans of fried oysters, but this one was done very nicely. - serrano caprese (Tomato, fresh mozzarella, serrano ham, balsamic and olive oil or pesto): we asked this salad to be split, and they did so, perfectly! The salad looked great even when it had been split into two, topped with the right amount of greens on a pretty, large slice of tomato. - Australian rack of lamb (Dijon truffle crust, mushroom bread pudding): SOOO GOOD! one of the best lamb dishes I've ever had. definitely recommend getting this! - pan-seared scallops (Corn and Green Lentil Pilaf, Saffron Sofrito): a little too salty. scallops were seasoned very well, but it was unfortunate that the toppings made it a little too salty. - marble potato and crab hash: pretty good if you're into taters! - creme brulee: very good caramelization. enjoyed! - bottle of red (Laborum cabernet sauvignon from Argentina) Absolutely loved the service we received here. Fabulous! Can't wait to come back with our husbands. My sister and I went for dinner and everything was amazing. We went on a Friday night (and it was St. Patrick's Day) and it wasn't crowded. They told us usually it is a good idea to make reservations on a Friday or Saturday night, but last night it wasn't crowded because it was also Spring Break. I started out with the sweet potato bisque-it was delicious! My sister had the house salad, very good too! We both had the red fish as our main entree prepared with chickpeas and Kale. LOVED it! For our first date night indoors in over a year, we chose Salum, a favorite. She had the lamb chops (perfect), and I ordered the Berkshire pork chop. It came out very overcooked, so since my wife had her food, I switched to the braised chicken. It still took over 20 minutes, so we didn't eat together. I get it. With Covid, margins are tighter than ever. But our bill was $226. With tip, $276+. I waited more than 40 minutes to eat, didn't eat with my wife, and paid full price. That sucked. I took some of my team for a birthday lunch on Monday afternoon and it was truly a great experience. In an age where you get accustomed to restaurants that don't pay attention to details, Salum reminded us of why we like going out to eat. Our waiter was very attentive to what was going on at our table and we never had to ask for refills but it's also important to acknowledge that he wasn't overbearing. While we didn't share an appetizers, the table ordered almost all identical items for an entree. The two entrees were the Fusili Stroganoff and the Steak with fries. Both meals were fantastic with both steaks being served at the correct temperatures and they made substitutions for the side with no issues. (Did I mention that the fries actually came out hot and not warm/soggy!) The stroganoff was a beautiful presentation and the two picky eaters devoured both dishes. I'll definitely be heading back to Salum with friends and employees again, very soon. read more

Our server was extremely friendly and helpful - she recommended a vegetarian dish not on the menu for me. The food was delicious. Another unfortunate Dallas restaurant that looks good on paper, but if you are a true foodie, stay away. Whoever is giving this place five star reviews either has the palette of a 90 year old or has never truly experienced fine dining. The menu was over engineered, under inspired, over priced, and out of season. Fried green tomatoes in February? No thanks. We ordered the baked chipotle butter oysters. These were clearly previously frozen. The bread crumb topping was soggy, and there was no chipotle to be found. Where was the heat? The smoke? Also the plating was so 2006. Why were my oysters served on flat glass rocks? So many questions. We also ordered Caesar salad. It was mediocre at best. Limp romaine and croutons that very obviously came out of a bag and a Parmesan crisp that definitely was not made in house either. For the mains. I ordered a $38 swordfish au poivre accompanied by polenta and broccolini. Everything on my plate was over salted, especially the brandy peppercorn sauce. The chef/owner was so nice but he has clearly become complacent in his menu design. It's a super cool spot that has a lot of potential, and I really hope he takes this review to heart. read more

The remoulade that is drizzled on top is just the right amount of savory when combined with the subtle sweetness of the pecans. I can confidently say I could eat these everyday. Definitely recommend. My mouth is watering just reminiscing of it. Zach ordered the Coq Au Vin and could not stop talking about it the entire time. Complete with "Try this! Try this! You HAVE to try some." Did not regret it- the wine sauce was phenomenal and the chicken itself was succulent on its own- perfectly complimented by the wine. I ordered the beer battered cod fish. LOVE. Cod is never my first choice when ordering fish; however if it all tasted like this it truly would be. The beer batter its fried in created an immaculately porous and crispy outer crust to hold the delectable fish inside. Outstanding. Anytime you can walk into a restaurant and feel completely welcomed, I'm in. Salum reminds me of the quaint places in New Orleans that I love. This is the kind of place where the owner is in front, back, seating patrons, washing dishes, helping with wine and serving food. I appreciate that work ethic. He was funny and personable. The wine list was fantastic and we enjoyed the many dishes we all ordered, including the berry crumble and brownie desserts. We also loved our waitress and thought she was hilarious. She somehow got our jokes and our humor. The pace was perfect. This place changes their menu monthly so there is just no reason not to go back here all the time. Every now and again the stars align and I have an amazing meal. That's what happened tonight. The ambiance of Salum is both comfortably modern and classy. Service was attentive and charming (Rachel). I started with a cream of mushroom soup that was at once flavorful and creamy. Along with my soup came both olive rolls and French rolls--both magically delicious. The iced tea happened to be chai, a wonderfully savory flavor. So far an excellent meal. The space is a tad bit loud with cement floors and a high ceiling. The kitchen is open and at the far end of the space, and the chefs were having fun with their jobs. I was nervous when I first pulled up because it's located in a strip mall, but no cause for alarm the food is world class. Lastly, I had the filet mignon, cooked perfectly. It was flavorful and sat atop a bed of diced potatoes in a mint pesto sauce. The steak was garnished with 4 asparagus. This was my favorite meal in a very long time. I love this place. read more
