I was totally let down dining here. I had read about how delicious and outstanding this restaurant is- and to my dismay; my brain cannot reconcile all the good things I've heard about this restaurant with my actual experience. First, let me go on record by saying this restaurant is beautiful. It truly has exceptional atmosphere and is tastefully designed. But here's the thing; while I absolutely appreciate this, the food was such a let down, that it would not have mattered if this was the Versailles hall of mirrors; the food was flat...and crazy expensive. I've been to fine dining establishments all over the world, and the one that let me down the most is right here in my backyard. The meal went down like this: I started with a beet juice and my husband had the lemonade. Both drinks were meh. I've had much better iterations virtually anywhere else serving those same items. Still, I was not prepared for what lay in store. As an appetizer we had the ahi tuna. It was pretty average, and once again, we've had much better iterations of the dish elsewhere. The citrus marinade was lacking a true tart and bright flavor profile and the tuna itself wasn't melt in your mouth, it was sinewy and not cut properly. For my entree I got the Korean Glass Noodles with an egg. At $29 plus an extra $4 for the egg, I swear I have had pretty much this same dish at a fast casual joint for half the price. There was no new ground being broken here. The biggest disappointment of the evening was my husband's Fish Stew. The rest of the world would call this Cioppino, but the fish stew here is the biggest let down we've experienced out of fine dining on six continents. This was the worst dish. It was BLAND. Whoa, I guess that's why it's seafood stew- there was no depth of flavor and this dish was $53!!! Oh my word- I cannot even believe we paid that much for this dish. The sauce was like Chef Boyardee level spice. It was that bland and unimaginative. Up to this point we decided to cut our losses and skip dessert. We had already sunk quite a bit of money into this experience and didn't want to lose any more. The service was fine, but it did not make up for the bland food. My disappointment boils down to the lack of flavor in our drinks, appetizer and entrees and the exorbitant costs for them that didn't commensurate with a fine dining experience. For such a well-reviewed restaurant, everything we tried lacked flavor and I just don't know if it was an off-night, but it was so disappointing. read more

The Quad might be the cutest little corner of Dallas, and Written by the Seasons is the anchor spot. The concept alone is dangerous. It's seasonal ingredients, Michelin recognized credibility, the vibe is beautiful and the menu came from someone who threw a passport into a farmers market. We ordered the avocado and shrimp salad, tuna tartare, kimchi pancakes, salt cod fritters, and the build your own muhammara pizza. The tuna tartare was bright and fresh, paired with grapefruit, the shrimp salad was basically summer in a bowl, and you can add anything, fruit, veggie or whatever to this dressing. Matter of fact, bottle this dressing. Forget retirement accounts and gold investments. I want shares in that herb mixture. The fact that a restaurant can serve kimchi pancakes and salt cod fritters on the same menu without causing an identity crisis deserves respect. Shout out to Bailey, AD and Sophia. My birthday dinner was majestic because of Written by the Seasons! The Bishop location was on my list since opening, but I just never got around to going. I couldn't miss the opportunity to visit the new Uptown location, especially after their Michelin recommendation. Boy oh boy, was I in for a delightful ride! First, the restaurant is beautiful from the time you step out of your car (the valet team was lovely and offered an umbrella due to the light rain). The tree lights danced against the sky and lighted our path through the small courtyard. The team was attentive, accommodating, and all around did service right. The correct amount of friendliness and care had smiles plastered on my face throughout the evening. The menu is seasonal and delicious. The scallops were my favorite. They are easy to get wrong (overcooked or over seasoned), but WBTS balanced the saltiness with fresh greens and creamy squash. The focaccia?! I need someone to bake this for me regularly. If I could give this place more than five stars, I absolutely would. This is officially my new favorite restaurant, and it all starts with the stunning atmosphere. Seriously, the interior design is flawless. That rust stone countertop with white veining is going to be the centerpiece of my next house--it's that gorgeous. The service was just as impressive. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. She was genuinely attentive, checking on us frequently and making sure we had everything we needed without ever being intrusive. But let's talk about the bar. The bartender's personal mission in life must be to make the best drinks, because they were spectacular. I started with the spicy ranch water, which had the perfect, invigorating balance of tartness to spice. Next up, I requested a martini "dirtier than the Trinity River," and the result was nothing short of perfection. For the food, I tried the burger, the crispy potatoes were pillowy on the inside with crunch on the outside. But the true star of the entire show was the butternut squash focaccia. Truly 10/10. It had me googling recipes pretending like this is something I could make. I 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for an aesthetic lunch or for a night out. I am so thrilled WBTS opened in uptown. This is very much one of those places, if you know, you know. The food is such a great quality, the people are friendly and they did an amazing job with the design. This location feels like the older sibling to the Bishop Arts location, the bar centering the room, the red marble throughout, the low lighting it's so romantic and vibey. So this time I wanted to give the 2nd location in the Quad a try. And loved it, too. Actually even more than the original location: same excellent seasonal food and creative drinks, same excellent service, same vibe, better patio, better parking options (valet and validated garage self parking), less craziness (we Gen X' are getting into the years). I wasn't a fan of the wild mushrooms dish and I thought the burrata with grilled asparagus lacked a little bit of flavor and creativity. Rosemary water was gross to me. Think maybe they should offer a plain water option or at least let you know that there's rosemary in the water before you drink it and are surprised. Can't imagine everyone is a fan of that flavor. They did bring me plain water once I asked for it. Service was okay, but our server disappeared about halfway though and then we had someone else come with our bill. Not a big deal at all, just a little odd for such a nice place. First time here and it did not disappoint. Our server Sam was super attentive and informative. You are expected to order everything at the same time (starters, small plates, and mains) and they pace when they bring them out them out accordingly. Everyone at the table agreed the burrata with brussel sprouts was the star of the show (I wasn't quick enough to take a picture before everyone dug in). I had the seafood stew which was absolutely amazing. My parents split the pork chop and said it was in the top 5 they've ever had. We shared the pavlova for dessert. This review makes me sad to write because Written by the Seasons has always been one of my favorite spots in Dallas. My husband and I have been coming here since they opened this location, and it's our go to for cocktails and dinner. Unfortunately, my visit a few weeks ago was really disappointing. We ordered the butternut squash focaccia (which we've had many times) and it came out visibly burnt -- blackened on the sides and dark throughout. No one checked on us for about 20 minutes. When our meals arrived, we told the table runner, who immediately agreed it was burnt and took it back. Then my entrée arrived with bread that was also badly charred. After waiting again to get someone's attention, a manager came over and was extremely condescending, insisting this was "how grilling works," despite the bread being visibly black not typical grill marks. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable, just bread that wasn't burnt. To top it off, we were still charged for the focaccia that was taken back untouched, and our waitress never returned to the table to check on us a single time for the entire dinner or to bring us our check. I had to go to the bar myself to get it removed and to finally close out. Mistakes happen, but the lack of service and dismissive response made this experience really unpleasant. I hope this was a one off, because this has always been a staple for me and this visit did not live up to what Written by the Seasons used to be. I do not see myself coming back soon and have cancelled future reservations which is sad but I'm hoping that this is temporary. read more

Get the kimchi pancakes!!! They are a popular dish and a lot of people really like them (myself included). We also got the carrot muhammara, and the mushroom plate. The muhammara with the kimchi pancakes is actually a good combo! I was surprised at how amazing the mushrooms were as well. My husband got the duck confit for his main and was very happy with it. I got the steak, medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. The outside was crispy and the inside pink. We did end up asking for some salt and that elevated the brussels sprouts for me (I like things salty). The only thing my husband and I were not a fan of was the mashed potatoes. They had a creamy gravy mixed in and it wasn't a flavor we personally prefer. Overall, I think the small plates were very good. You could easily have an entire meal of just the small plates and even share them. At the end of the meal we were both very full and took most of our main course to go. Service: The staff was very attentive, knowledgable, and professional. The chef asks that all the food (except dessert) be ordered at one time and they will space it out when they bring it to you. I like this system, it made the experience much more effortless. Although, I think they are still figuring out the flow and pace of the customers because at times there was not enough space on our table for all the small plates and they were trying to help us clear off plates so that felt slightly rushed but I think it's something they will nail down soon. Atmosphere: I love the interior! It's cozy and has big windows. The furnishings are super hip and cool. I am a fan of the design. I will mention that some of the tables for two (like where we were seated) were very close to the other tables (so you can easily hear each other's conversations) if that is something that bothers you it may be a good idea to request different seating. It was not a problem for us as we were not discussing private matters but I wouldn't want to sit there for a first date or a business meeting. Parking: They have valet and cover the cost of this, so parking was not a problem. This was the case on Friday evening. read more

We're visitors to the Dallas area about 3-4x a year and this will be a staple for us. We've been twice and I wish I had written a review the first time because we had such great service and food. I do remember what we had last visit! My husband ordered the scallops and risotto and I had the burrata and stone fruit salad. We also had two cocktails! The scallops were cooked perfectly and the risotto was so rich and creamy (if you follow me, you know I love scallops). The burrata dish was the perfect size for me, not an app but a small plate. The hubs has a tree nut allergy so we did skip the pistachios. Both dishes were perfection but what always stands out is the service. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner our first trip out and the pride in the restaurant shows in both the owner and the servers. You can't go wrong with this Michelin star restaurant. Our first journey to uptown since moving to North Dallas and we were very much looking forward to this one. I stumbled over this on a recommendation from a food & wine video and it looked right up our alley. We even headed out early so we could catch the Derby at the very nearby Standard Pour (such a nice spot by the way). We sauntered over right on time and it was a lovely evening to sit outside. We were seated right away near a beautifully lit tree and waited for our server......and waited.....and waited. We even heard her talking to the table next to us saying "I need to greet this table that just sat down" and she walked right by us. Eventually, she arrives, phew! She explained the menu quickly and asked if we were ready. For sure we were because will we ever see her again, so we ordered all courses and drinks at once. For the table we took her recommended hummus plate and then I chose two small plates for my entree and hubby ordered a large plate. She asked if we wanted small plate first and I said no, those are my mains, and she abruptly told me that's not a good idea, one plate will get cold while eating the other, and that the "chef knows best", so I sadly said whatever. 15 minutes later, no drinks and someone arrives with one of my small plates.....before anything. So I thought it was wrong table, nope that's ours. So I ask this person if she can check on our drinks. Drinks comes and appetizer, then the large and other small plate. The pace was ridiculously slow and our server was so rude. The food was good, so if not for this experience we would be back.
