This isn't my first review of Sam's, but I can't stop gushing about this gem every time we eat there. The pizza is absolute perfection. If you're not eating there, you're not living your best life. The crust alone (Detroit-style) takes four days, and you can tell. Nothing rushed = perfection. And the owner, Jeff, is fun to talk to if you sit at the counter. I'm embarrassed to say that it took me way longer to get here to Sam's but I finally made it. And man, I'm glad I did! My husband and I were greeted by the owner who was so kind and told us about the pies and their ingredients. I'd seen his videos in the past so it was cool to meet him. We decided on the James, which quite honestly was one of the best pies I've ever had. Every aspect of it was fire--the different kinds of pepperoni, perfectly charred, the best Italian sausage, a touch of basil, red onions (not too many) , appropriately acidic sauce that tied it all together and then Mike's hot honey--just a drizzle-- that adds a slightly sweet slightly spicy kick. I almost asked for it on the side and I'm so glad I didn't and trusted the process. Oh, and aged pecorino on top. There's no skimping on quality ingredients here. Sam's Square Pie is the real deal. I've been on the east side and lived in the dime all my life -- but somehow have never heard of Sam's Square Pie before a few weeks ago. I saw they had a pizza that I literally could not locate anywhere, and thought I would go give it a try. I had an Irie (Trio in some places) and it was heaven sent. The sauces were layered perfectly and every bite was unique. Not to mention the greatest cheese wall crust on this side of the Mississippi. It was so good and the people treated me so nicely that I decided to do it again a few nights later. Jeff and his service are top notch. The 2nd pizza was a little sloppier with the sauce, but it didn't change the fact of the matter -- This is the best pizza in the country. I don't care who gives it what kind of review, my family looks forward to that Pizza Bib entering our home! Lastly, the place itself feels so amazing. It is comparable to a good man cave, where you can drink a nice drink, eat some good pizza, and enjoy the ambiance of historic Irvington. The only thing I will do different when I order my pizza on Wednesday () is order the Irie Grandma Style and ask Jeff to make sure the sauces are evenly distributed and done right. What's crazy? I know for a fact he will offer to do it all for me, all while taking orders and fixing mistakes. Heard rave reviews so had to come check it out for myself! It's not obvious from the street where this place is but just trust that you are walking in to the right spot! Follow your nose :) I missed the sign but there is a small one outside. The owner, Sam is very nice and friendly. It's a small space inside but several tables. I imagine seating can be challenging during peak times. We went on a Wednesday evening and no issues with parking or seating. The meatballs are the best! 10/10 for me! I love the FLAVOR! You get 3 meatballs per order. They are nice size and I think the price is fair. The sauce is very good as well. I would definitely come back for these! I tried their most popular pizza the Jefe. It was just ok to me. To be fair, I don't like pepperonis but I picked them off as the person I went with loves pepperonis. I couldn't taste much of the sausage. The jalepeno ricotta sounds amazing but I couldn't really taste any jalepenos or spice to it. I did appreciate the pizza dough was airy and crisp and not chewy and "doughy". I wouldn't order this again but would like to try another pizza ; most likely a build my own. As far as drinks, there is a cooler with canned and bottled water. From the outside, it's an unassuming spot on 10th street but it's totally worth a stop! The staff was so friendly and the owner was so warm and genuinely welcoming to everyone who came in. It seemed like there were a lot of first-timers in and I really appreciated him telling us where to order, etc. right away. We ordered garlic knots with vodka sauce and a "just kissed my baby" pizza. Each came out pretty quickly and both were incredible!! We could've eaten that vodka sauce with a spoon. Will definitely recommend and be back again! Not to mention the beautiful box design For Christmas this year, I gifted my husband a "diy weekly pizza pass" and we kicked things off with Sam's. The pie made its way home still hot and we loved the sweet salty dough, paired with the chewy cheese, honey glaze combination. It packed a punch and we'll definitely be coming back for more. Darn good. It might be the best pizza in town. It's Detroit-style pan crust. The staff was nice. The owner seems passionate about connecting with the community. The decor has a lot of tributes to the owner's late brother Indiana Jones. Mad love to the old Broad Ripple Casba bar sign in the bathroom. :) The music they played was excellent. However.....it's expensive! $23 for a medium 6 piece pepperoni pan pizza. If you go here on a Saturday night, you better order the pizza to go. The place was hopping. There was a line about six people deep when I arrived and all of the tables in the restaurant were taken. Keep in mind, their online ordering system was turned off one hour and 15 minutes before their closing time and there isn't a phone number to call for to-go orders. They're only open four days a week and four hours a day (and they close at 8pm) so plan accordingly. read more

Far and away the best pizza in Indy. And their new grandmas pie? My god. I'm from NY originally, lived in Chicago for a while, very serious about my pizza so have been trying to find the best in my 7 years in Indy...Diavola, King Dough, Futuro, Napolese...all good and def the next best....but especially with the Grandma's pie, this is on another level by itself. First time here. I've seen a lot about this place and heard that it was one of the best pizza places in town. And it lived up to its billing. We started off with the garlic knots. They were really soft a great garlic flavor on them and had some cheese to dip them in. They were very hot and were really excellent. Not too heavy but still really good. Also, we had the El jefe pizza with sausage, three kinds of pepperoni, hot honey and ricotta cheese. It was incredible great cheesy crispy crust nice thick Detroit style crust. And the toppings were excellent with the sauce on top and then topped with a dollop of ricotta cheese. The honey gave it a really nice sweet flavor and some a little hot aftertaste. The pepperoni was great sausage was great overall it was one of the best pizzas I have had in town. We got drinks out of the refrigerator, canned and bottled. But they also have a bar, but we just chose to do cokes. The atmosphere is really cool lots of Indianapolis area memorabilia kinds of things and references. A really cool space very welcoming friendly. Small seating area, maybe six or eight tables. But plenty of space for us. The guy that helped us to get our order in talk to us through the entire menu and was very friendly welcome rest in and told us to have a nice week when we left. Highly recommend. read more

We are in town for the Indy 500 and decided to try this local eatery. The pizza was beyond delicious! We ordered the El Jefe and my husband reports it is the best pizza he's ever eaten in his life. I don't disagree. The restaurant has an eclectic vibe and the owners are fabulous people. They're very welcoming and happy to give us recommendations on what to order. The whole place had an eclectic chill vibe with 80's music pumping at the perfect volume to enjoy and also be able to have a conversation with the people around you. We met locals and enjoyed the game on the TV in front of us at the bar. The restaurant probably seats 25 people with 7 to 8 tables and a bar that seats about eight people. They serve beer and wine spritzer's. I found them on Yelp and as always, Yelp did not disappoint! read more

Stopped in for pizza to share with a friend while we planned a road trip. It's in my neighborhood so I did carry out and walked. Note prep time can take a while-plan ahead. So. As a native New Yorker, I prefer the East coast pizza style, but this pizza... I think it's called "Detroit" style, a saucy, thick crust but not like a deep dish. After much deliberation, I chose the Loving Cup-pepperoni, sausage & pesto + red sauce and cheese. I ordered online and left my house minutes ahead of the pickup. My order ready text arrived en route. The guy at the counter was very friendly and the interior had some tables and chairs and a few good beers on tap, in addition to some canned options and cider. The pizza had crispy, carmelized edges, generous toppings and the crust a nice crunchy exterior and soft interior. The pricing may seem high but this is a very filling pizza. I may have dreamed of my leftovers. I'm thrilled to have Sam's close to home. I heard this place gets busy during peak times. Plan ahead, it's worth it. read more

I love this place! Finally, a great pizza place in my neighborhood. I hope this place continues to do well and sticks around for a long time! The pizza is fabulous. It is detroit style so it is a large rectangle and it is thick. 1-2 slices will do you well. You can easily split a pizza between 3 people (IMO) unless everyone is very hungry. The service is great. I sat at the bar top counter and really enjoyed speaking with the server. She was super friendly and overall the restaurant has a great neighborly vibe to it. I will continue to get pizza from here! Only gave 4 starts instead of 5 due to the limited seating and they did not serve alcohol (at least when I was there). These aren't big deals, but just explaining my star review! Support local everyone! Update to above review* I went back to Sam's last night for takeout. I got the small Camaro pizza to split with a friend- it was the perfect amount. I really love the crust and red sauce on the pizza. It's so delicious. I also noticed that they do serve alcohol now and have a bar seating area. *DISCLAIMER* i drive an hour home with this and reheated. The food was good but the crust was a bit hard/crunchy and kind of hurt the roof of my mouth although the flavor was there. I ordered to go and the service was quick and staff was very friendly. The inside was kinda like a cafe/bar and there wasn't a whole lot of room inside but by no means was it a bad ambiance. This is by far, some of the best pizza I have ever had. I can usually put down a good amount of slices, but these 3x3 rectangle serves one properly. I mean, three or maybe four will surely fill you up in the moment, and the leftovers will be almost as good as being served fresh with the right amount of heat and temperature. The restaurant is a nice little joint to hang out in, but conveniently located for pickup. The staff put a lot of love into the pies, and it shows. The pizza is great. Crust is light and crisp. Sauce is fresh and bright. We didn't try the pesto or ricotta but we will next time. I just wanted a basic pepperoni pizza to get a baseline. My wife can't have dairy so she tried the vegan pizza; I had a bite of hers and it was amazing as well - the first time I have EVER thought vegan pizza was good. My pepperoni was great as well. Sam is thoughtful and personable; you can tell he really cares about his customers. Parking in the back makes it easy to get to. Great vibe inside as all the customers are super happy. Im giving five stars because the energy is incredible and i respect a well ran business. Im glad that i finally got to try this viral place that had my mouth WATERING. It was worth having for sure. But if im honest, I personally would not return. The pizza was WAY too crispy and chewy for me. I do typically enjoy Detroit style pizza but i don't think this pie spot is for me. I can't believe it but I had never heard of this place until I read about it in the newspaper. I know that seems crazy but after I read about them I had to look it up and all of the pictures and comments are pretty good so I had to try it for myself. You have to go to the pizza shop to order they don't have a phone. You can park out front if there is a spot on 10th but if not there is a parking lot out back. There is a nice area to sit down to eat as well as a place to wait If you are getting it to go like I did. I ordered 2 small pizzas an El Jefe and a pepperoni. It was about a 20min wait. The pizza held up nicely on the way home and was as good as it looked. You may not think hot honey is a good idea when you read the description but it compliments the pizza well. The crust is also perfect, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. I can't wait to share this spot with others. read more

Great Detroit style pizza! It's my new favorite in Indy. The ingredients are clean and the cheese is high quality. The crispy edges are a treat. It's easy to get full on two slices, so a large pie (8 slices) was perfect for our group. They have nine varieties of pizza to choose from, including garlic knots and cheesy garlic bread. First and foremost, this Sam guy is one of the friendliest people I've ever met. He greeted everyone with a handshake or hug and is genuinely a nice man. But the food is also outstanding! Meatballs were some of the best I've had in the city. Garlic knots could stand more garlic in my opinion but still very good. Pizza was excellent!
