While visiting Huntsville, TX I stopped in at Sam's Table for some lunch. This place is one of those "Hidden Gems"...a diverse menu ranging from Tapas, Costa Rica, and American creations. I decided to try their Costa Rican Seafood plate from the main menu Appetizer/Tapas section and added a side of rice and some tortillas. I tried a Lucky 19 Bearkat Blonde ale...this is a really great beer, crisp palate, and went well with the fish plate I ordered. This seafood dish is absolutely incredible...a mix of shrimp, mussel, clams, baby shrimp, and chopped octopus. The flavors are so good and the rice complemented the dish very well. Even though this was an appetizer...it was a wonderful lunch option. This is a historical location with a beautiful patio out back and an extensive wine list. Excellent experience. The restaurant sits pretty close to I-45 which is good if you are traveling. The menu choices and food quality were high without being expensive. Loved the smaller room where the bar was. Seemed like a neat place to meet up. We had one burger and one dish with Costa Rican theme. Both were great along with good service. read more

My mom and I just came to lunch here for the first time yesterday and it was great! She had the spaghetti lunch special and I had the Casada (I am so sorry if I am misspelling that but it was the typical Costa Rican lunch) along with the bruschetta for an app. The food was fabulous and those fried plantains were literally to die for!!! The service was excellent and the owner was very friendly! He came and checked on my mom and I and asked if everything was to our liking as well as introducing himself. Our drinks never sat empty and we were seated very fast. We also checked out their bar area and the cozy outdoor patio before we left. The food was great! I had the BLT and added a little mayo and chipotle mayo...the chipotle mayo is amazing!!! The fries are unbelievable!!!! My boyfriend got the side salad and says don't bother with it just get the fries. Our server was Kara and she was excellent. The only reason I'm not leaving 5 stars is the sweet tea was lacking...and I'm a southern girl so I like my sweet tea lol. But all and all definitely recommend this place. read more

Stopped here after doing some shopping and OMG- SO, SO Good! We ordered the Calamari, shrimp tacos and chicken tacos, a bowl of butternut squash soup and a glass of pinot gris. You don't get a ton of calamari, but it was breaded nicely and my husband loved it. Tacos were great, good spice on the chicken one and the shrimp tasted fresh. But the star - the Butternut soup!!!! It was DELICIOUS. Super attentive server too. Loved the history on the walls and the specific history of the restuarant itself, and the Sam Houston original table. So worth the stop. read more

I went to Sams Table for the first time for lunch a couple weeks ago and well in love with it!!! We used to go to the restaurant that was there before, so we were used to the layout! It is two different spaces with a wall knocked out between them that combine them in the middle. There is table seating on one side and you walk through to the other space and there is a large. As with seating! You can also walk to the back and enjoy an adorable outdoor seating area!! The food is absolutely amazing!!! We have been back multiple times just for the food!! There are tons of tapas to choose from! The beef carpaccio is amazing! Served chilled with baby arugula and olive oil... wow! I love the grilled shrimp! It has spices sprinkled on top and served with roasted poblano peppers!! Delicious! There is also a lot of entrees to choose from. The squash soup is a huge hit served hot with pears on top. The chicken Caesar salad is a favorite of mine!! The salmon panini is also yummy! Grilled chicken, steak, and fish! It's all good!! If you are anywhere near this restaurant please stop in and enjoy! Food was good. 4 tables of 2 in the whole place including the bar took 20 minutes to put in an order from the bar and appetizers for the 2 of us. Then another 18 minutes to get the drinks. Dirty martini wasn't dirty just a martini. Waitress came 3 times to ask us about our drink order. I felt like we were the ones having to make the drinks because the bartender didn't have a clue. Manhattan wasn't made right. It was just an over all disaster. We kept telling g her just your house liquor. Charged us for premium. Will NEVER go back. Never ordered dinner because it took SO long just to get 2 drinks and appetizers, and are bill. read more

This is a Gem! Huntsville has been long overdue for a restaurant of this caliber! The owner/manager, Diego, has a BIG HEART, and enjoys the challenge of serving delicious food!!!! Love the seafood selection, especially the tuna! Calamari was lightly breaded, but scrumptious! Ceviche was served up, Costa-Rican style. The burger was out of this world. Service is good. Food is good or better. Desserts are terrible. Really. They should stop selling them. Chocolate cake was dry and the frosting like granular sugar. Crème brûlée was pasty and could not finish. Chicken dishes are good but all the but is not healthy. Can they move to olive oil? Price is ok. Ambiance is good. Tables feel sticky. Horrible wait. Dish ordered was not available and we were not informed until 20-25 mins into the waiting. Sitting almost an hour and some of the food has not showed up. Waited an hour and was told they forgot our food. This is beyond ridiculous and never have we ever been at a restaurant with this much horrible service. Ticket came and was billed the 2 dishes that were never served. Will never be back. Also customers are definitely the elderly group. Not sure if this is normal here but definitely needs to improve. read more

Nice atmosphere in downtown Huntsville paying tribute to Sam Houston. Bottom line- on the food-are they tapas and wine bar, American fare, South American..... All of the food was average to below average relative to the price paid. Mushroom appetizer was good. Ribeye medium was a flavorful decent cut but cooked more to medium well and not a $40 steak,. green beans were canned, tasted institutional and spruced up with bacon and greens. Mashed potatoes were home made, topped with melted cheese but average. Costa Rican seafood plate was less appealing than yelp pictures and prepared with less variety of seafood..only had shrimp and clams-extremely clammy tasting and fishy overpowering. Martini was very good and Glass of wine was good. Paid little more than $100 for Everything. BUT the value for this quality of ambience, service, drinks and food is much lower. My advice to the owner is cut the menu offering to less and increase the quality. read more
