There was no joy in the food being served and I don't believe anything was made from scratch. This one sentence sums up everything.

We stumbled on this place visiting town and was unbelievable. We had the octopus and ceviche appetizers and were blown away. I had their special, the mahi mahi and all of it was so fresh. We sat on the patio and felt very comfortable and it was quite charming. The staff made us feel right at home. The prices were so reasonable and the quality was impressive. What a great experience. staff, management and the food were excellent. My wife and I went in on the new Steak Nite and enjoyed filet mignon, delicious fresh vegetables, salad, tomato bisque and desserts that were out of this world. Last night was the first time I've ordered food from Sam's Table. I actually hadn't planned to go there, but I stopped at two other places that apparently either have gone out of business or have incorrect hours posted, so I decided to swing by this place and see what they had to offer for take-out The place seems a bit upscale, especially for Huntsville, yet casual. The waitress who took my order was friendly, and the food came out pretty quickly. The menu is interesting and doesn't really focus on any one type of cuisine, although there are a number of Costa Rican dishes available. I decided to get the tomato bisque soup, with the caprese panini as my main dish. With the cost of a beverage and a 15% tip, that brought the total close to my $30 per diem limit, so the place is definitely not cheap. As for the food... The tomato bisque soup was good, but it seemed more like a tomato pepper soup than a tomato bisque. I had a nice flavor, but it lacked that creaminess of a real tomato bisque. I'd probably order it again, though. The panini I ordered came with a small helping of fries, which were really delicious...not overly salty, but very flavorful. Crisp on the outside, and they came with a very tasty, interesting sauce for dipping. The problem was the caprese panini itself. Caprese has literally 3 ingredients, whether it's in a salad or a sandwich or panini or whatever. It's got mozzarella. It's got balsamic vinaigrette. And last but not least, it's got tomato. Without any of these three things, it's not a caprese. Well, my caprese panini had NO TOMATO in it. It was supposed to have it, it's mentioned on the menu as an ingredient...yet inexplicably, they somehow forgot to put the tomato in my sandwich. I'm at a loss to explain how something like this can happen, other than they maybe have somebody new in the kitchen who doesn't know the menu, or else they ran out of tomatoes and thought I wouldn't notice? It's really baffling, and also a bit infuriating. It's not like this is McDonald's...it's a fairly pricey place, and they need to do better, especially when it's a take-out order, and can't be sent back to be fixed. Despite this first-time debacle, I can't say I wouldn't go back. I might. If I do, though, I apparently will have to go over my order with a fine-toothed comb before I leave. read more

We stopped in to Sam's Table for a late lunch/early dinner. The food was delicious. The cream of tomato soup was a generous serving and tasty. The bruschetta tapas was absolutely wonderful. Burger and chicken panini were both spot on. The owner stopped by to check on us and as we left we had a great conversation with him as he invited us back. The manager was equally as gracious. We went to Sam's Table on a Friday evening in late August. I had been there once before for lunch but it was the first time for my husband and my first time for dinner there. The owner Diego was extremely gracious and helpful, as was his handsome son. To be honest, this restaurant is like a precious gem in the heart of downtown Huntsville. We both had some ceviche to begin with. Given that ceviche is raw fish, one has to be very careful about the quality of the food. But I knew the owner was from Costa Rica so I hoped he would know how to make good ceviche. My hunch was right because this was the best ceviche that I've ever had. It was fresh and delicious! For our entree we both ordered their special which was red snapper. Most restaurants ruin good fish by overpowering it with too many condiments. This was made just right. I know I am repeating myself but it was absolutely delicious! We ended the night with some chocolate cake, what was magnificent to say the least, and a side of ice cream. I was really blown away by the quality of the food we were served and how caring and attentive our waiter was. This place is truly a gem and we will be back many times. Tried Sam's table for the first time today. It was delicious! Our server, Louis V., was fabulous. He was attentive, but did not hover. The food was amazing. We had the bruschetta and another appetizer that had potatoes and a sauce on them. I had a salad with chicken. The chicken was delicious! We will definitely be returning!!! read more

I ordered the tilapia with mashed potatoes and green beans. The tilapia did not taste fresh so I did not eat much. The mashed potatoes were hard and did not have much flavor. The green beans tasted like they were from a can with a bit of bacon thrown in. Almost $20 for one of the worst meals I've ever had. I don't mind the price for a good meal but I wouldn't serve that for free. read more

One of the best spots I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Unfortunately the kitchen was not operational the night we visited due to a gas main bust but Diego was very accommodating and served us crackers and cheese with our wine and we had a great time. He even discounted our drinks due to the gas main that was no fault of his own. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. This is meant to be a constructive critique. Family of 5. Only 2 other tables occupied. I think the biggest deal was it took 50 minutes after ordering to get food and no one updated us. The other problem was 3 of us ordered chicken paninis. They received grilled chicken - not panini. This entree was about $4 more than the panini. Another person ordered fries as a side but got vegetables. We accepted what they brought realizing it was a language barrier. The waiter is from Costa Rica and really tried hard to communicate with us. I think if we asked the waiter to repeat what was ordered, we would not have received the wrong food. Regardless, the food was good and everyone left full. They did adjust the bill accordingly. read more

I had lunch with a group of about 15 people on Oct 29th, 2021. (We had reservations.) Several people, myself included did not get their meals when others did. My food was the last to arrive- at least 30 minutes after everyone else. No reasons offered for delay. So....I was about 1/3 through eating my entrée (special of the day) when everyone else needed to leave. It was embarrassing and really ruined the whole experience. In addition, part of the food was barely warm. It's too bad because the food was good (once I got it). I will never go there again because of the extremely poor service. read more

Simply amazing! We've been to Sam's Table a few times, and they never disappoint. Today we had the lunch special - beef stroganoff, prepared from delicious tenderloin pieces. So wonderful we both finished the ENTIRE plate. The appetizer of beef carpaccio was perfectly prepared and presented, and was delicious. The potato soup was creamy and flavorful. Even the side salad was great - actually quality greens, even arugula (my favorite), not just a plate of iceberg lettuce. We went all the way and finished with deserts. A very generous portion of luxurious chocolate cake and a creme brûlée fired right at the table. This place is a gem.
