Sam's is a reasonably priced place for some good beers, snacks, and a lively atmosphere.

My first yelp review. Only to tell people this; If you're looking for a good burger DO NOT rely on Sams.I have NEVER had a good burger there. Every time I've been the burgers are way undercooked and it seems to be their standard so I made sure to request my burger be cooked thoroughly. My friend didn't. My chili burger ($12)came in a basket lined with paper which almost immediately mixed with the 'chili' making it more than a chore to eat. I mentioned this to the server and apparently the management is aware of this but refuses to buy plates to resolve this.Thanks for telling me after the fact. As my fork was ducking and dodging soggy scraps of chili soaked paper I was pretty sure I noticed an odd tinge to the meat. Yes. Bad meat= food poisoning and we got it. Me not so bad due to my well done patty but my friend wasn't so lucky. I've given Sams burgers many chances because their staff has always been great but I will NEVER shell out that much money again for one of those lousy burgers.Go to Mia's 5 blocks away. Every weekend I get a chance to go out, my friends and I make it a point to stop at Sams tavern because of the superior service we receive every time from crystal and Nava! As a gay male you wouldn't think Sams is my typical Saturday night chill spot, but these two women make us feel safe and very well taken care of. Okay, I just stopped here for a couple of beers after a long day at a trade show - I'd already had dinner at Cutters and was looking for a pre-sleep beverage. Sam's is a really cool, open fronted bar restaurant and gave me just what I wanted; cool beer and the prettiest server I have seen in a long, long time. She was really nice, very welcoming and attentive, happy days. Will definitely be coming back and not just to look at the pretty waitresses. read more

Gotta update my previous review. I went yesterday with a friend to have some lunch a do a little work. We sat in the back at a booth and the really friendly waitress immediately came over to help us. It wasn't quite happy hour, but she kindly offered to give us the happy hour prices if we wanted to. I ordered the Jalapeno Reno and an ICED TEA (YAY THEY HAVE ICED TEA NOW!!) The burger was FUGGIN GOOD! The fries now have been jazzed up with some sort of seasoning that makes them more interesting than they used to be. They also have TABASCO NOW! YAY TABASCO! I gotta say that the place got pretty busy for happy hour while we were there and the whole place was being held down by the one lone waitress and she did an awesome job. She was super friendly, the food was really good and I seriously have no complaints. I gotta say, I'm now a fan of Sam's Tavern! read more

What a great find (though admittedly I didn't really "find" it)! This place is great for lunch during the week. I would imagine it is equally as great the rest of the time it's open, but to that I can't attest first hand. The first time I went here I was looking for a place to have lunch I hadn't been to before, and this qualified. On the menu, my eyes immediately honed in on the 50/50 Burger and thought to myself NFW! A burger that is 50% Angus Beef and 50% Hempler's Bacon, and they have the "huevos" to put bacon on it as well! I could almost hear my cardiologist groan (in perfect harmony with my gastroenterologist and nephrologist). That sealed the deal on what was for lunch, and it has been every time I've gone back. Over-the-top excellent! And the space: comfortable, sort of rustic, with a sprinkling of ne'er-do-wells such as myself making all feel right at home. The music: Perfectly dated, old songs from the 60's and 70's mostly, but not the smarmy, AM radio, pop turds. It's the music from those days you still want to hear (or hear for the first time), the ones you're amazed that you still know all the words to. I too have had the great fortune almost everytime I've gone in, to have Abby working behind the bar and serving food. She is so great. So friendly and a delight to just talk with while you're slamming another $1 Rainier and chomping one of those 50/50's. She brightens my day everytime I'm there and she's working. I like to consider myself somewhat of an expert on Bloody Mary's and this is why I found myself at Sam's. Why did it take so long for a slider to make it on to a bloody mary? It's like peas and carrots amazeballs. Salty, savory it's a meal, a hangover cure and goooooood all in one. Staff was super nice and accommodating, always appreciated in the city of the Freeze. You can add bacon vodka but I went au naturale on the vodka. I have heard about this place on King 5 news. Jessie Jones was doing their burger challenge and I was like "whoa, I gotta try this place." Now with that being said, I am a local girl who LOVES a nice good, juicy burger. Like I said, I'm local. I have tried the big chain restaurants that has burger on their menu like Applebee's, Cheesecake Factory, Nordstrom, 5 guys and ect ect. But when I told my friend I wanted to try this place he didn't fight me on it and it was a wonderful, excellent, and just mouth watering experience. My friend order the mushroom burger and I order the 50/50 with bacon and avocado. My friend and I decided to split our burger. My friend's mushroom burger was juicy, delicious and so good I wanted more. Mine was nice and creamy and smooth with the avocado and the beacon...so crispy and that patty...yummmmm!! Cooked how I liked...with some pink and every bite I took I wanted more. I love our waitress Krystal, she was friendly, took her time with us, answering our questions about the place and beer. I would recommend this place to all the burgers lover. You just have to check it out if you love burgers or red meat for that matter. The cook...master mind. SAMs is a chill, fun place where you can hang out, eat awesome burgers and drink great beer. I never liked bloody Mary's before SAMs, now I love them. The mix is sooo good with tons of delicious snacks on top like a slider! (Which is a bomb.com slider I might add). The decorations are legit, taxidermy all over place (I'm a fan) a bar top made out of pennies, mason jar lights, and nice wooden tables make it feel very PNW. I love it. read more

I've been meaning to write this since Sunday but am still recovering from my weekend!! My friends and I went in on Friday night and again Sunday afternoon and let me just say--SAMS IS MY NEW FAV PLACE ON CAPITOL HILL!!! if you havent been there--you gotta go! The food is good, music and atmosphere too, but what really stood out to my friends and I was the excellent service. There were the same two girls working Friday as were there on Sunday, I don't remember their names, one of them was very unique but they made us feel like rockstars or something!! (Unlike most places on the hill where people are too cool to act friendly). The one girl was very pretty and was super attentive to our needs and was always greeting the table with a smile, very sweet. The other one (a darker version) IS a rockstar and she embodies everything cool about the place!! Not to mention she has the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen which off sets her fierceness--HOT!!! Anyway, they said the place was new but you wouldnt know it by how well everyone works together, especially on a busy weekend night!! The place was packed!! We had a BLAST, def will be back soon!!! I would give 5 star review for the food, it was great! The service was limited at best. The staff was for more preoccupied with their guy friends at the bar! Yes they are very pretty but should probably do their job if anyone wants to come back. They do have a Groupon out right now and if they desire new customers then getting their staff up to speed would be a huge improvement. The decor is just right, the load music (raver electronic) didn't go with atmosphere and very annoying. Don't get me wrong, I love my electronic music. The advertisement photo is what brought me in to Sam's Tavern but the poor service will not bring me back. Tues night, the server was eating behind the bar and completely ignored me when I walked in. The people sitting at the bar were also ignored. When a co worker of hers told her that people were waiting she looked over at me and went back to eating. When I went up to a third worker and asked if one of the many dirty tables could be cleared she was nice enough but her co worker kept eating and ignoring the customers. Had the jalapeno burger (I think it was called Jalapeno Reno) one day, then went back the next and had the chicken strips. The burger was awesome. Gotta love a place that has a jalapeno burger. The chicken strips were amazing too really. Although you may think they are all the same no matter where you go, the breading was killer somehow...not sure what it was but its different than the rest for sure. Cheap (but delicious) eats, cheap brews, and your typical bar atmosphere with tabletop Pacman and loud tunes. read more

Been here three times. Sam's is my second best burger experience in the city. The Juicy Lucy is fantastic! The bartenders mix some really good (and strong) drinks too. The only drawback to this establishment would have to be the music. I'm not a regular, but I certainly can hear no consistency in the music they play. Once, the speakers blared extremely loud rap music the entire time I was there. Sorry, but not my favorite genre. It would have been tolerable if it weren't so loud...I couldn't even talk to to my friends. Fortunately the burgers were so good, I had to give it a second (and third) chance. After seeing this place pop up all over random Facebook ads for about 6 months, I finally decided to stop in. I can definitely say it was the bloody Marys that drew my attention. They have a burger stacked on top of them, for gods sake! Funny part is, they aren't even on the menu. Just by word of mouth & so, it was cool seeing everyone's reaction when she brought me my drink. I didn't end up liking the drink. Just not my taste, but the burger was delicious! We showed up about 30 minutes before happy hour, which wasn't a problem because there was a shooting game we could keep ourselves busy with. When happy hour rolled along- we payed $5 for 3 chicken sliders, $5 for 3 burger sliders, and $5 for loaded fries, along with $1 Rainier beers. YES, ONE DOLLAR BEERS. Score (and that's not just a happy hour price) We noticed a seating area upstairs (balcony setting) and asked the waitress if we could go up there. She said yes, but that there would be no service up there. We decided that it would be worth it to just get our own food and sit upstairs. When we got up there, we found another room, set up like a bar, with some fun drinking activities to participate in (maybe at night) When we returned to our seats, we were surprised to see that she actually brought our food! What an angel. IT WAS AMAZING. I mean, seriously. Everything tasted SO fresh. I almost didn't even want to leave, I loved it that much. I must say this has become my new #1. read more

This is my new place for capitol hill. Normally I would find a random but not all encompassing mix of good food, good drinks, good service, good prices and general goodliness(? thats not a word ?) in other places around the area. Finally a place on the hill that has it all. Sans douche, the bartenders here . . . hell even the owners want to get to know you and you're not another person giving them money. Genuine friendliness flows from everyone that I've seen here. The burgers are better than any burger I've yet to encounter in seattle. Their prices are low and smart. No overcharging for well and pbrs. And the other domestics and above the well prices are decent. This place is my go to and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

i've always liked this place up until last night 9/4. i met up w/ my friends to grab a few drinks. my friend and i went up to the bar and yes it was kinda busy. we stood in line behind these guys that was sitting at the bar and mind you, we were waiting soooo patiently. so we waited and waited and the guy in front of us must of knew the bartender. and let me describe this bartender real quick, so you guys just know. she's the one that look like a butch. she's pretty, has short hair. but that prettiness of hers got ugly though. anyways, whatever that guy secretly whispered to that bartender just really set me off because then after that she was ignoring my friend and i acting like she wasn't seeing us. i even waved at her nicely just so that she knows that we've been waiting there! then this other white dude came up to the bar while she just deliberately ignored us and helped him! im like wtf are you serious?? so then when i was like excuse me, we've been waiting here forever... and that f*cking dude that was sitting at the bar was f*cking rude talking about she's assisting customers. oh really? and we don't look like f*cking customers to you??? really??? i was hot by then and my friend was trying to calm me down cause i was really about to cuss her ass out and that guy that was sitting at the bar. i mean really is this how you treat asians? cause clearly she was ignoring that shi*t out of us and helping alllllllll the white people first. i really liked this place but now, i will never ever go back to this place. not as long as that bartender is there. she was extremely rude and im so over this place. i will never recommend this place to anyone ever again. read more

I've been to many places on Cap Hill. Finally made it to Sam's Tavern around 3:40pm Sat. It wasn't busy. The waitress/bartender ask us what we wanted to drink, we just wanted waters. We ordered our food at 3:50pm In the mean time, I went to use the bathroom, there was only one as the other was out of service. It was clean. The rest of the dining area was a dirty mess. 30 minutes later still no food. Saw it come up in the window, the bartender was busy talking so it sat for another ten minutes, then an elderly man brought the food to us. The hamburgers we're typical, not great. We finished about 4:45 and had to ask for the bill. Got the bill and sat around waiting for the bartender to pick it up. Again, she was too busy talking. My sister went over to tell her we had to go and she cut her off with yah, yah, yah. Needless to say, she didn't get a tip, but she almost got a beatdown from my daughter. She is a short, obtuse blonde. I guess to get good service you have to order alcohol or be a male. Go to the Unicorn or any other place on the hill. read more
