Y'all, this place is a sleeper restaurant. It is in a bit of a sketchy area with less than stellar…read morereviews. However, my friends and I were craving Cajun food and wanted to give it a shot. Boy, were we surprised! The seafood was so fresh when we ordered. We got the shrimp, crawfish, and snow crab legs. Maybe they just got their shipment on Monday, but it really hit the spot. They did mess up my order ( I ordered House Mix with Medium spice but got Garlic Butter with Mild spice), but it didn't change the fact I enjoyed my meal thoroughly. Also, their corn was great. I'm usually a fan of seafood boils that have a thicker sauce consistency (like King Cajun), so if you're the same, you might want to skip. Their sauce is a bit on the more liquid side. I would say if you're gonna eat here, place your order online and pick up your food and head out. It will hit the spot, but you don't want your car parked around outside cause it's honestly a bit scary.

I appreciate the king crab came with slits cut on it so you can crack them open easier! I ordered the "Feast Combo 2" which includes half one king crab legs, half pound snow, crab legs, half pound shrimp with no head, one corn, one potato and side of fries! Cost was $66.48 with a pop!

Seafood tasted fresh and portions were generous for the price. Service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere felt casual and welcoming. A solid choice when you are craving comforting Cajun food.

Try picturing your local Chinese restaurant, but make it emptier, dirtier, and more run down. And…read moreto make it worse, all of these qualities can't even be offset with some good food. We weren't greeted when we walked in and were left standing at the front wondering if we had to seat ourselves until someone finally came out and just brought us to one of the empty tables. There was another empty table that hadn't been bussed with the plastic bag containing seafood boil and half eaten corn by us, and it was clear that this place was short staffed. Now, to be clear, the biggest faults of this place don't stem from them being short staffed (like the unbussed tables or the wait to sit down). It comes from the mediocrity of the food and the filthy bathroom. We ordered some beef skewers (5 pieces) which were just fine. We also ordered the seafood boil with medium spice garlic sauce, peeled shrimp, snow crab cluster, and added sausages. When I asked the server how spicy their "spicy" is, I was told "it depends on what your spice tolerance is," which was entirely unhelpful. When the boil came out, we didn't receive a lobster cracker despite ordering crab legs, and just had to crack them ourselves. The sauce left no impression besides being mostly garlic and whatever nondescript sauce that provided a slight modicum of heat. The best thing was the sausage, which probably came out of a package. The worst part of the visit was when I had to go to the bathroom, which I walked into a dingy, dark bathroom where one stall was "out of order" and the other was so filthy that your average frat bathroom in the middle of a rager party probably would have been cleaner. I just made a beeline straight out of the bathroom. I try to give small businesses the benefit of the doubt, as I realize that many improvements require $$$ which means that you need more customers and you need renovations to get more customers etc.. etc.. but for now I think I would tell my friends and anyone reading this to steer clear.

The place was very busy and had a good energy about it. I had the Jambalaya, which had chicken, sausage, and shrimp. It was pretty good and had a nice spicy kick. A good portion as well. Girlfriend had the shrimp etouffee with grits. It was nicely blackened and on a big bed of grits. Also spicy. Friend had the original lobster roll. He was surprised it came on Texas toast and not a roll. But he really enjoyed it. The dessert was a sinlme but delicious Cookit with ice cream. I recommend for restaurant week. And if you like seafood in the form of things like the lobster roll or shrimp etouffee that you don't get other places. I thought the jambalaya was fine but unremarkable. Not pictured here was the lobster mac and cheese. Which was only a small appetizer and I thought underwhelming (also, I don't like corn).

Smack Shack knows seafood, and the Seafood Paella proves it…read more The Seafood Paella arrives packed with perfectly cooked shrimp, clams, mussels, smoky sausage, and saffron rice that's loaded with flavor. Every bite brings something different, and the fresh seafood really shines without being overshadowed by the seasoning. The portion is generous enough to share, but you probably won't want to. The atmosphere is lively, the seafood tastes fresh, and the kitchen clearly pays attention to presentation as much as flavor. If you're looking for one of the Twin Cities' best seafood dishes, this one belongs on your must-order list. Fresh, colorful, and packed with flavor--Smack Shack delivers every time.
