    Baba ghanoush

When I had a late night craving for Mediterranean food, we placed a delivery order from Samdan through Uber Eats. What an absolute smash out of the park. We didn't realize an order of baba ghanoush came with pita bread triangles, so we also got an order of the Turkish bread. I wish I'd gotten a picture of it because it was truly a thing to behold. Larger than a human head, just barely warm, and a soft and tender dipping vessel for any gooey and smushy dip. Suffice it to say the subaltern pita triangles went largely ignored once this was unbagged. Speaking of the baba ghanoush, this was also a joy-giving dip. Warm, with a hint of smokiness, and with a drizzle of olive oil, this hit the absolute spot. Our entrees were just as satisfying. Falafels somehow retained their crisp and crunch through the delivery ride, and the ground chicken adana was juicy and flavorful. It's a daring thing to give five stars to an establishment I've never visited in person, but in this case, the food spoke volumes for itself. Since then, this has been bookmarked as my go-to spot for when the Mediterranean yen hits.

The food is always good here. Love the borek, they are filled with cheese and lightly fried.

Solid restaurant. It's classy, yet you can walk in a tracksuit with a wad of Benjamins building from your pockets. Quality and quantity, coupled with kind service - you will not be disappointed here. Highly recommend for middle eastern food as this has Turkish influence. Parking lot in the back with plenty of spaces, but shared with other businesses in this lot.

Nestled amidst its picturesque streets are eateries where every dish tells a story. One such establishment, Samdan, meaning "candelabra," is located on Piermont Road in Cresskill, where my partner, our friends and I came as first-timers for dinner on Saturday night. Reservation was easily made via Open Table. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host and got a table in their newly renovated dining room with a modern vibe and relaxing music in the background. Their menu centered around Mediterranean cuisine on lamb, eggplant, olive oil, grilled fish, and some vegetarian dishes. But the prevalent tastes of Turkish cooking featured peppercorns, paprika, cinnamon, sumac, and cumin. As appetizers to share, we opted for Lebni (curd of yogurt with walnuts and a hint of garlic) and Borek (flaky pastry filled with cheese and parsley). As our meal, we decided on Creamy Chicken Special (breast of chicken in white wine, heavy cream sauce, and a hint of garlic served with rice and grilled vegetables), Side of Mashed Potatoes, Lamb Chops (4 pcs broiled baby lamb chops served with rice and grilled vegetables), Chicken Shish Kebab (charcoal broiled tender cubes of marinated chicken with chef's seasoning served with rice and vegetables), and Meatballs (Korte)--ground lamb mixed with bread, onion, and garlic served with rice and grilled vegetables. Complimentary hot bread accompanied with balsamic vinegar and olive oil began our meal. All our dishes had a great artistic presentation that was amazing, made with fresh ingredients, well seasoned, and tasty. The portions were just right. The only complaint was not all dishes came out at the same time. The service team was perfect, as we weren't rushed. They were very friendly and nice, especially our server, Seder. The chef/owner, Chef Emre Yeşil, came to our table to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The price was comparable to the area. We had a wonderful dinner experience, which we can recommend.

Website says one thing but when you get there it's a different thing & they won't honor their mistake. False advertising

We got a table right away. The menu had a variety of dishes like appetizers, soups, gyro, kebabs, pasta, pizzas, seafood, wraps and sandwiches. In drinks section, they had the Turkish coffee and tea. We started with their complementary bread, so fluffy and light, we pretty ate the whole thing before any of our dishes came. I ordered my favorite fried liver cubes from the hot apps section, and it was fantastic. It was full of flavor, perfectly sized cubes and properly fried. Tasted so good with the complimentary bread (we requested a second one). For entree we ordered the Mix Grill and Karisik Izgara as it was a perfectly sharable dish for two and we got to try 5 of their kebabs that are lamb shish, ground lamb, chicken shish, ground chicken and grilled meat patties. Both ground kebabs were excellent, full of flavors. The shish and patties were also good. We got the margarita pizza too, but that one was disappointed, seemed like some sauce was just thrown on top of the cheese and wasn't baked long enough. Our server was really friendly. She always stayed on top of things. Our dishes came out in quick time, it was impressive. Despite the shortcoming of the pizza, which is not usually a Turkish dish, I was thoroughly impressed by the actually Turkish dishes, like liver cubes and kebabs. I'll for sure visit them again whenever I feel like having kebabs next time

We had to ask twice for our rice we ordered for entrees to be brought out because our server forgot. Fine, that happens. But what really threw me off was when I questioned if the mold in my cheese was normal, the server assured me it was naturally occurring for the flavor. I felt gaslit because I have never had Parmesan with such questionable green growth on it for consumption in any restaurant in my entire life. The server said if it bothered me, he'd bring out fresh shavings with no mold. I have left pictures so you can be the judge of this. Aside from my minor issue with the cheese, the ambiance of the restaurant was nice and there's plenty of choices for meat and non-meat eaters alike

I came with my friend for dinner. We ordered Lahmacun and a mixed grill. The Lahmacun was a little bland. Not like others I have had elsewhere. It was very skimpy on the meat and as a result lacked flavor. We had to bomb it with salt and the lemon to make it taste like anything. The side fixing of lettuce with tomato was a fail because the tomato had a rotten spot right where it was sliced. Not sure how they could have failed to notice that when they sliced it and fanned it out. We had to ask for a replacement tomato The mixed grill was a bit better. The meat was tender and tasty. I can't complain about that. What was horrendous and the reason despite the okay food that we will not return is the service. To be clear there were literally only two tables of customers in the restaurant. When we arrived there was a lone woman sitting at one other table eating. And then us. After she left another group entered to sit at a table. It was then that table and us for the rest of the evening. A waitress came and took our order. She brought us the bread. We asked her to bring us some olive oil please. She said OK I'll be right back. She never came back. Ever. She went to the side of the restaurant and was playing on her phone. Then another gentleman brought us our food. We asked him can we get some olive oil, please. He finally brought it. Then he product food and disappeared, and we never saw him again. Well, to be clear, we saw him sitting on the side playing on his phone too. But we never saw him come to our table again. We waited for the check and we waited and we waited. Finally, my girlfriend got up and walked over to them and said can we get the check please. We had to laugh because she stood waiting for it and the woman who never returned with the olive oil said you can sit down I'll bring it to you. The irony was not lost on us and I laughed inside. This time she did return. The fact, though that we needed to go literally hunt down the servers in a completely empty Restaurant is major fail.

The Turkish breakfast is primarily a lot of cheeses with sauces and small bites with a bread basket - would only recommend if you like different kinds of cheeses and since it is very light on its own it would prob be best to order something in addition to it. My friends and I also tried the salep tea which was this traditional Turkish drink that is very thick and creamy, has a very unique texture with a sweet flavor and cinnamon garnish.
