As a Logan Square resident, we frequent a lot of neighborhood spots. Same Day is our favorite spot for a casual, light brunch and we hit it up nearly every weekend armed with our respective newspapers as this is the perfect cafe to sit and relax in when it isn't too busy. The food is some next level stuff; every dish has just that extra bit of thought and flavor put into it. Love the portion sizes; I'm always pleasantly full without feeling like I've eaten a salt bomb. My personal favorites: the vegan patty melt (and I'm a straight up carnivore), their chicken soup special, the reasonably priced iced coffees ($3.50, $1.50 for a refill) and my boyfriend goes on and on about the BLT. Best of all, the service is wonderful. The owner Will is engaging and always receptive to feedback. The waiters and waitresses I don't know by name but they're lovely and friendly (and have great music taste--the rotating vinyl is always on point). A neat spot with fun vibes and a unique menu. I was surprised at the creativity of their house-made touches (and mocktails!) despite the size of the restaurant. Heck yes! Love this place. Everything ala carte is delicious (so any of the salads you can order on the side: potatoes, beets, carrots, etc) but their friggin biscuits make my heart sing. I'm from the south and so I KNOW how hard it is to find good biscuits in the Midwest. Good lord, do yourself a favor and order a biscuit from same day. ALSO their patio is pup friendly! My girlfriend and I ate here recently on a Fried-day night. There were plenty of available tables. We brought vodka and each ordered a a mixer of flavored soda (made in-house). Both were egg-cellent. For dinner we ordered the tomato soup, cavatappi mac & cheese with chicken skin and roasted Brussels sprouts, arugula salad, and spicy potatoes. All of these were deli-cious, but the mac & cheese was truly flan-tastic. The potatoes, on the other hand, were my girlfriend's favorite (and she's Asian!!). We were there on a warm afternoon, seated in the sun by the window, served warm water sans ice, and sweating in the probably 85 degree temps inside. There was one floor fan on the opposite side of the restaurant near the kitchen. It was stifling. Not a good start. Considering the heat, I had to try one of the house-made sodas which I quite liked, but my wife did not. We ordered mini pot pies for the kiddos which they didn't eat, but we did. They would have tasted a lot better if they were 4 bucks each. My BLT was delicious, but we were a little underwhelmed by the portion size for the price. I'd say they're overpriced by 25%. Maybe they use primo expensive ingredients, but it's a bit hard to justify the price. This place is more hipster-friendly than kid friendly. I understand kids being less welcome at busy times, but we were there around 4 pm. Maybe I was just already pissed off from the heat. 2 star experience, 4 star food. Came here with a friend for dinner, right as they were closing. The ambience inside caught our eye and the lines for nearby restaurants were way too long. It was 7:45 pm and the cafe closed at 8 pm, but the waiter was nice enough to let us get a quick bite to eat. We stayed until around 8:20 pm as they cleaned up. The fact that they let us stay after closing was a huge plus in my book. Food was fresh and reasonably priced. Soda was a little expensive for what tasted like regular sugar and fizz - maybe blackberry, lime and ginger are too many flavors for one drink? Honestly, I don't know if I'd go again, but only because there are so many other places to try around it. If you're looking for a quick but sit-down bite, I'd recommend it. read more

It's okay. I do think the environment and staff here are the best features about this breakfast spot. I would still opt for one of the other Logan Sqaure bfast spots I had ordered the HASH, and made sure to ask if it was spicy. He said, "Ohhh no not at all" but it is. It has cumin, pepper and something else. I ordered it for my son that does not like any spices in it at all...and ended up with nothing much to offer him for our cool Sunday bfast. :( Kinda a appointment since I like to order what the staff recommends at a spot that's new to me. This place is now my go to spot! I've lived in Logan Square for a year now and cannot believe it took so long for me to try this place out and I love that they kept the original "Alex Cleaners" sign. This is a much needed, classic cafe that for now can spare you the lines for a good bite to eat. Their menu is small but expanding, and filled with fresh organic plates and sides. Coffee is obviously good, and in a critical location. We had the egg toasts, special of the day- good portions, clean mix of flavors and homemade delicious rosemary bread. Probably one of the best breakfast dishes I've ever had. They also had options for my friend that's vegan and she said the Kale burger was delicious. This past Saturday I found this fun, playful cafe quite by happenstance. My uber driver dropped me one full city block away from the Logan kenzie blue line and I was daydreaming about having a milkshake when lo and behold I walk past this cute outside picnic bench patio set up and there's a chalkboard sign inviting people to try their famous milkshakes. Well I didn't need too much convincing and it's always wise to follow signs so I took a seat outside on the communal picnic bench and took less than three minutes after perusing the menu to select a thick cut gouda grilled cheese sandwich and gourmet coffee milkshake. My server was extremely busy on Saturday but she truly listened and my meal was satisfying and flavorful. I went here a second time this past Tuesday and this time I chose a chocolate phosphate and blt. I was just as happy and extremely impressed with the way my phosphate was prepared and this has to be the very best chocolate phosphate I've ever had. Today marks my third visit and I chose a combination of two heart healthy salad sides and a warm biscuit with jam and butter to the side. I decided upon the wild cherry phosphate soda and enjoyed more people watching on the communal picnic bench. It's summer in Chicago again so I strongly recommend this charming and friendly cafe/diner to anyone who appreciates traditional, handmade drinking sodas, iced coffees, shakes and decadent sandwiches with zesty flavors. Same Day Cafe is the best! I thought that it couldn't get any better than Will's old location, Flipside Cafe but I was WRONG. So now there are not just amazing sandwiches, coffee and deserts but there is an authentic soda fountain with handcrafted fountain drinks. This place is great for everything from a meal, a snack, or stopping by for a coffee and a desert. Very nice to have a true independent business - not a fake small business strategically put together by a "hospitality group." One of my favorite brunch spots. It's super low key and not very crowded. Everything I've ever had here was delicious.

Brunch and breakfast on a Friday with the roomie. We both had the egg scramble with red chimichurri. It's served with a side of mixed greens and biscuit with honey butter. I ordered a side of bacon. The biscuit was lovely with the lightly sweet butter. Bacon was perfection. I asked for easy on the cheese in the scramble and enjoyed the flavors of the chimichurri and didn't miss the gooey cheese. Coffee mixed with horchata was good but I would've enjoyed it more with a splash of cinnamon. The place is cozy and I can imagine it's quite a wait on weekends. Myself and my boyfriend's family wanted to go out to brunch on Sunday, and we actually were originally trying to go to a place next door, but the wait was over 1 hour. We walked away and saw people enjoying their food at Same Day Café. A group of girls outside could tell that we were unsure and expressed how they loved this place so much, that this was their second day in a row going to the café. So we went inside and were seated immediately. We put in our drinks and food and had it appear almost instantly. The place has a very clean, open, home kitchen feel. I'm still sitting at my table because I'm too full to move. I'm generally not someone who stuffs themselves, but the food was so good, I didn't want to waste any. The BREAD for the grilled cheese is a rosemary bread and I couldn't get enough. I didn't even need the cheese (though it was delicious). Been here a couple of times now - once for brekky and dinner. Whilst the menu stays the same (all day breakfast food ftw!), I've absolutely enjoyed both times I've been here. The food is great - portion sizes are appropriate for the reasonable prices. I love the hash and the scrambled eggs with biscuit (that butter!!!). The service is also wonderful. We almost missed the café because it still kind of looks like a cleaners (I believe on purpose). Whoever opened this place up definitely has a sense of humor. The food was fantastic. I got an avocado toast which was crunchy enough to support all the toppings. It came with heaps of avocado. The Jicama Slaw was pickled to perfection. Also, add the egg! Very charming new spot in the hood... Love the simple approach they take to their menu and food, and everything we've had has been tasty! The decor also has a very chill, beachy kind of vibe to it. Speaking of the beach, minus 1 star (which could potentially be minus 2) for the intense heat and stuffiness inside. We've gone twice for lunch this summer and probably won't go back until the weather cools down a bit. Their A/C seems to be pretty non-existent for some reason. Not sure what the deal is with that, but it needs to be addressed ASAP. read more

I've been to Same Day Cafe a few times, and have always enjoyed my experiences. When I am in the mood for "a nice sandwich", Same Day Cafe is always up there in my list of spots. I stopped by today for lunch, where ordering was very easy and comfortable. The space has been re-configured for easy walk-in orders and pickup, the outside area cleared as a nice outdoor waiting area while your order is prepared. I chose from their menu and ordered the roast beef sandwich with horseradish mayo, and a side of roasted cauliflower. For a second they told me they had just run out of roast beef, but someone further back chimed in that they had enough to make one last sandwich, which I really appreciated!! The whole order was ready in less than ten minutes, which gave my friend enough time to swing by and order the BLT and a chocolate milkshake. We ate by the eagle statue nearby, on the grass. My sandwich was wrapped in parchment paper so it was really Easy to hold and eat picnic style. Really good quality and well seasoned, with soft fluffy bread that was slightly sweet, with good bite from fresh arugula and the horseradish mayo. I see why it sold out! The roasted cauliflower was also surprisingly good (I got it mostly to have some vegetable on the side so I didn't have super high expectations on carry out cauliflower.), I liked the lemony sauce that was on it. My friend also really liked her sandwich and milkshake, although the BLT was a little bit messier to eat picnic style (definitely could use an extra napkin for that one). All in all, a great lunch with really great service! I want to get a sundae or ice cream next time I swing by. read more
