Dropped by for their new brunch service and loved the vibes, ambiance, and people. I ordered their tangerine mezcal cocktail and it was so well made. The food rotates from different local businesses which is such a great way to promote local spots while focusing on quality cocktails and beers. We spoke with one of the co-owners who was super friendly and local to the area. Definitely a must see spot to order great cocktails and have a nice time -- day or night. A great new addition to Carlsbad. I feel like the cocktail scene in San Diego exploded in such a way that you either go to a place that is pretentious, overpriced, and too upscale or you go to a dive bar with terrible drinks. I love that Same Same is neither of those things. Its a chill place to hang out. The staff is actually friendly, funny, down to earth, and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to slanging drinks. They have different food vendors pop up during the week and I have had the pleasure of trying Smoke & Salt and their food is freaking delicious. They often have Pizza maniacs serving slices real late too. Anyways, I suggest you check them out. Unless you suck, then just don't go. read more

This is a perfect execution of a soulful 70's Phuket Walking street dive bar with amazing Thai inspired bar food and cocktails, A great example of how a well executed concept is more than the sum of its parts. Same Same is an absolute gem in the heart of Carlsbad. Outside, it's kind of tucked in (I thought it had closed) and is located in kind of what I consider more of a touristy spot (but what do I know). However, inside, it's a place that would fit right in on the east side of Austin. It's a real vibe without trying too hard. The menu is small which is a compliment. You know what you are getting will be fresh. We ordered a few drinks (we did not order off the cocktail menu - but will next time) and got started with the samosas. I CAN NOT STOP thinking about these samosas. I don't think I even like samosas and these are literally what I think about before I fall asleep and immediately upon rising every day. There were so many other starters we wanted to try, but that will have to wait. We then shared the panang curry with chicken. Again, this was incredibly fresh. The rice and vegetables were cooked perfectly. You could tell that this was made to order because the veggies were cooked but still had a snap to them which was amazing. I don't know what exactly was in it, but there were bits and pieces that you would get bites of that were "surprising" in the very best way. 20 out of 10! I can't wait to go back and absolutely wanted to keep this place to myself, but I know we eat dinner at 4 pm so it should be safe to share. :) Take yourself to Carlsbad and check out this place (then head to the strawberry shack for a strawberry shortcake after). Awesome bartenders and drinks, and really amazing food. I had drinks and dinner there two nights in a row, and I honestly don't think I've done that anywhere else in about 20 years! Don't be afraid to try the fish sauce chicken wings--they are delightfully crispy, juicy, and flavorful, and they're also gluten-free! The menu is tiny, but the people I was with sampled most of the menu and we all loved everything. read more

This is one of my go to spots! They have amazing drinks with quite a selection. The vibes and the ambience are just what you want from a fun cocktail bar. They even have some honestly amazing Thai street food. The menu isn't huge, but honestly everything I've had on it has surpassed my expectations. Great drinks and we went there on a pizza night which was really good. Decorations and vibes of the place are worth it to check out as well. Knocked off a star bc the service went great. Came when there were 2 bartenders and 3 groups of 2 at the bar (including us). Bartender starts by spilling a drink they were making on my white shirt. Not a big deal bc mistakes happen, but they didn't even offer a napkin so I could try to clean myself up! Had to flag down for water and another drink after being ignored for 20 minutes too. Worth it to try again, I just hope they work on improving their service, especially when they're not busy. read more

Same Same has a really rad atmosphere. Their cocktails are also super interesting if you have an adventurous palette. The bartenders there have been pretty nice every time I've went, and I've never had a bad time. This is the best bar in that plaza, IMO. read more

It's our first time to eat here since I'm celebrating my birthday at the beach . This place is amazing ! The food is outstanding, the server Kang is wonderful, fast , efficient and very friendly. this place is impressive! the bartenders are absolutely hilarious and know how to captivate those who who enjoy sitting at the bar for banter! the drinks are absolutely killer, which makes sense. the guys are all local veterans in the cocktail game. i also love the food concept! they have a rotating kitchen which keeps things fresh and interesting! to be honest, i don't drink like i used to, but knowing that i can go in, get a great cocktail and try a whole different menu is so cool to me! the main menu is put together by a local guy and is kind of a thai-bbq fusion. there is nothing like it around! but they've also worked with pop-ups and done soul food, pizza, brunch, irish food, a crazy high end steak house, japanese fusion... if you're interested in going, definitely follow their instagram and see what's on the menu! also, just a tip; it can get pretty packed and seating is somewhat limited. so if you're going for food, earlier is typically better! read more

We were excited to try this place as I've heard they have great cocktails and fun ambience with music. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was not buzzing like the rest of downtown Carlsbad...first red flag. Then we were asked if we'd like to sit at the bar where there were only 2 separated solo chairs available...no thanks we'd like to sit together. So they sat us at a table right up against the support beam which was awkward because it blocks half the restaurant from view. Excited to try the cocktails, we browsed the menu and found what we wanted. 20 min later, still no server has come to take our order. Or even greet us for that matter. So I got up to order at bar because maybe they don't have waitresses come to tables? After telling the hostess what's going on, she looked annoyed and didn't apologize. She went to the back curtain to ask the server why she hasn't waited on our table. A few minutes later someone finally pops out and says she can take our order. Still no apology or offering a way to make up for the long wait. At this point we're over it and just left. Never coming back or recommending Same Same due to the rude staff and terrible service. Went to Gonzo instead and had an amazing dinner and experience. read more
