I want to like this place, and the quality of the food was good. I got the lamb curry, and it was very tasty. The problem is it is that the portions are insanely small for the relatively high price. A small mango lassi was $7, and a the lamb curry which was only a tiny cup worth was $17. They even charge an additional $4 for rice to go on the side. I was really disappointed when I got my order and realized how much I'd overpaid. If they had larger portions or cheaper prices, I would love to come back. The biryani with shrimp was just as flavorful - paired well with the tandoori because the seasoning is so perfect and not overwhelming! Their menu is extensive with one page focused on Nepalese and the back page focused on Indian dishes. If you have a small appetite or you're prepared to order a lot of food, you can amaze yourself with the delicious flavors of Samikcha MOMO. Every dish was spicy and packed with spices. Everyone's favorite is the fried chicken MOMO and I can definitely eat 3 plates of those. Chicken chili is spicy for sure so be warned if you're sensitive. The lamb choila had an interesting pairing with Rice Krispies and I really wished we had more lamb pieces. The service was really good here. My boyfriend and I came around 5pm on a monday afternoon, so it was rather empty, allowing us to be seated quickly. We ordered the chicken jhol momo, chicken tikka masala, 2 garlic naan and masala fries. The food arrived in 10 mins or so and tasted pretty good. The only thing that we would prefer to change would be the chicken in the tikka masala to be cooked just slightly longer. Other than that it was delicious. Sorry, if this is the BEST the SF Bay Area has to offer, then I don't know what to say. I do like that the restaurant is open late which is not super common in this area. I rated each item based on how likely I would be to reorder. My scale: 1 - Never again; health hazard. 2 - Pass. I won't order it and I won't eat it. 3 - Eh. It's OK. I won't order it myself, but if someone else does, I'll eat it. 4 - I will highly consider ordering. 5 - I will ALWAYS order. This is a must-order. Samosa Chaat - I never had this before and I have no idea what it's supposed to be like, but personally I didn't like the flavors or textures. I was hoping for different types of textures that create sweet music in my mouth. This was more like modern art. I don't like modern art. 2/5 Veggie Momo- Fried - I never had fried momo before. I was expecting something crispy like lumpia. This was fried like eggroll. Eggroll is fine, but I prefer lumpia. The wrapper also was sweet in a way and I didn't like that. 2/5 Halal Chicken Momo- Steam - Chicken momo was good. I was expecting sauce to accompany the momo and I was disappointed. If there was sauce, maybe I would have bumped up my rating by a whole star. I don't know if sauce is supposed to be included - it is from the other momo places. But the flavor was good and different from the veggie momo, because sometimes, the momos all taste the same. 4/5 Eggplant Curry - I never had eggplant curry. The eggplant was good, well-cooked. The curry had a good flavor, but I don't think I would normally reorder this dish. 3/5 Veggie Biryani - I usually don't like biryani, but I'm always hoping I'll find one I like. I actually liked the veggie biryani and I think most people did not mention it in their reviews - they usually go for the goat. This was probably my favorite of the dishes. 4/5 Plain Naan - 2 half pieces in the order. Pretty standard. 4/5 Rasmalai - 2.5 pieces. I was staring at the half piece and wondering, Why? Why was one piece was SLICED in half. So I halved that half and gave 1.25 pieces to my husband and 1.25 pieces to myself. LOL. 4/5 S2. Mango Lassi - The color was darker than most other mango lassis I've had recently, but maybe that's just the mango. It was good. Not filled all the way to the line at the top though. 4/5 Gobi Manchurian Chowmein Bowl - I never had gobi manchurian chowmein before. So I was surprised that the gobi was batter-fried. It was okay. Sometimes pieces of it, the parts without any vegetable was very crunchy to the point that I thought there was bone in it. Bone crunchy cauliflower. Yum. It was okay, but maybe the steam in the box made the gobi pieces soggy. Chow mein was OK. 4/5 The food for the most part tasted OK and the prices were on the cheaper side for this area. I would return with different expectations. My suggestions: Please use more environmentally friendly packaging for take out. Please include sauces that would be provided for in-person for take-out. Husband asked for a spicier version and they delivered. The chili chicken chow mein was absolutely delicious. It's tasty and had a little bites of spiciness. The Chili chicken was flavorful. Could not stop savoring the bites. These two are must order! On average, the dishes were priced at $11-13.00. I think it's really rare these days. However, the portion was really small. This is the best Indo-China cuisine I've ever had. The food was excellent, and the service was great as our server was very on top of everything making sure we had everything we needed. We ended up getting the Mango Lassi, Lamb Tikka Masala, Fried Chicken MoMo, Chicken Tandoori, and Butter Naan. Food came out relatively quickly. I was surprised how juicy everything was, especially the Tandoori on a sizzling platter because it looked like it was going to be dry at first glance. However, the one dish that really blew us away was the Butter Naan. Simple right? It really was simple, but gosh, it was SO GOOD. My girlfriend put in a second order of naan because we consumed the first order way too fast. It comes out smelling amazing. Came on a Sunday around 11:30am for lunch and the restaurant was entirely empty. They have a decently large menu, and we ordered a few curries, garlic naan, and the paneer momos. As we had arrived, a chef from the back took the last seat available and stared at us as his other coworker went and sat down with him. Knowing that we were coming in to sit and eat, we thought it was a little rude for them to do that. The waiter sat us near the door and provided us with a heater to stay warm. However, the table setting created a bit of a safety hazard as we sat next to the fire sprinkler riser. The restaurant, unfortunately, does not match the theme of cuisine. It comes off very mismatched with random wallpapers and pictures. The food definitely won us over. We started off with the Mango Lassi which is deliciously sweet and tastes homemade; the Masala Chai was good, but it was not blended in flavor as I would like. It is also unsweetened so definitely add sugar to your liking. For appetizers, we ordered the Garlic Tikka Fries. The tikka dipping sauce was great, however the fries were not evenly seasoned and I was expecting a spicy kick. For our main dish, we ordered the Lamb Curry and Coconut Chicken Curry and both were amazing. The curry was extremely tasteful and both the chicken and lamb were so tender, it melted. We also ordered the Garlic Naan and Butter Naan on the side, which were both great in texture. They had a nice crisp to them, however, I personally like a little fluff in my naan. A new restaurant with 5 stars ratings. I was disappointed because the reviews said they have the best Momos. I love the ones from Urban Momo because the skins are fresh and flavors explosive. The skins here were not nearly as fresh and the flavors were pretty standard Indian. The Lamb Saag Curry was worthy of eating here, but was quite tiny compared to other dishes. Their Manchurian Noodles are not edible from my perspective. Chicken was cold and not as good as Sweet and Sour Chicken in most Chinese restaurants or chains. Noodles were flavorless. My friends and I ordered a few dishes to share including: chicken momos ($14.49), gobi manchurian ($12.49), matar paneer ($14.99), garlic naan ($5.99), and sichuan veggie chow mein ($13.99). Total came to a little under $60 before tip with the 15% discount. I don't eat meat, so can't vouch for the chicken momos, but I will say you get to pick from a variety of ways to have them cooked (ie: chili, steamed, fried, soup, etc). I have never seen that many options for momos before! They also have a veggie or paneer option for fellow non-meat eaters. Gobi manchurian was decent, but just a really tiny portion. I didn't love the matar paneer curry. The peas didn't taste super fresh (probably frozen peas), but the paneer bits were fine. It went well with the naan though. Lastly, the sichuan chow mein was not spicy at all. I expected a little bit of kick, but was disappointed that it did not deliver. Instead, I just spooned the leftover sauce from the gobi manchurian to add more spice. Service is a bit slow, but they let us take our time even though they were getting busy. I love this place! It's my go place for Indian food in the peninsula. I've tried the goat curry, palak paneer, goat biriyani, butter chicken, momos, and mango lassi. I was pretty happy with all of the items. Service is efficient and the interior is modern. I usually get takeout most of the time, but dine in occasionally as well. Both have been good experiences. Although most of their dishes are good, I think the biriyani is a particular standout. I'm somewhat addicted and trying not to eat here more than once a week .
