Garlic & Korean fried chicken wings

Ordered the mini Kalbi plate, mixed katsu/pork belly/ribs, spam musubi, garlic/korean chicken wings. We always go to Sam's Club nearby but never noticed this place. It was our first try and surprisingly, we loved every dish ordered. My mini rib plate was bigger than expected but full of flavor. The musubi has the perfect rice to spam ratio. Will definitely return whenever we go to Sam's Club.

I got an early dinner to-go. Food was ready quickly! Staff was very friendly and recommended me a fruit drink (which was very good). Restaurant seating was very clean. Food was excellent and tasted fantastic!

Came with the mister for a weekday lunch. When you enter, the order counter is immediately in front of you with large, clear menu screens. We received a friendly, welcoming greeting. We easily placed our order with the very nice lady. The restaurant is clean, spacious, & bright with tables & some bar seating. Island music plays in the background. The chairs are metal & loud against the cement floor, so best to lift them to move. Fountain drinks are self-serve, but refrigerated beverages are also available to purchase. Napkins, utensils, & hot oil were self-accessible. Each table had squeeze bottles of soy, sweet & sour, teriyaki, & katsu sauces. Our orders were brought to the table hot in to-go containers. We got two 2-item plates-- BBQ Beef--Flavorfully marinated, tender, some fatty edges BBQ Chicken--lightly flavored, soft, & juicy Kalua Pork--smoky, moist Katsu Chicken--nice crispy exterior Mac Salad--mayo heavy Rice--perfectly fine The plates come with cabbage, but it was nice to find we got a few pieces of carrot & a broccoli as well. They were just barely cooked & still crunchy bites of veg. We had friendly service, a satisfying meal, & a big portion of food for a reasonable price. We'd definitely come back.

We got the family meal and shared it between the three of us. Two adult and a toddler. Chicken Katsu: 5/5 BBQ Chicken: 4/5 Short Ribs: 4/5 6 scoop of rice and 6 scoops of mac salad We got left overs for the next day! Service was great and food came out at a good time. The restruant was clean. Will come back! Enjoyed everything.

First time at Sam'L Hawaiiam BBQ and they did not disappoint. They have generous portions of meat. The katsu and fish are crispy outside, juicy inside. Bbq beef and kalua pork are savory and delicious. They also have sauces - teriyaki, katsu and sweet & sour - which I really liked because they're not too sweet. Clean and fast service. We'll definitely come back.

We got to Sam L Hawaiian BBQ on Sunday morning around 10:55 and there was already a small line of people waiting, which was a good sign. They opened the doors a little early and started taking orders right away. The process was quick and smooth, and we found a table easily. Plenty of seating and the place was super clean, which you'd expect right after opening, but still nice to see. The staff was really friendly and welcoming, everyone had big smiles which made for a good first impression. I ordered the loco moco and my wife got the pick two with chicken katsu and galbi. The food came out fast, probably under 10 minutes, and the portions were huge. My loco moco had two big patties with lots of gravy. I asked for my eggs over medium but they came out over hard. Need that runny egg! The meat was pretty good, a little on the drier side, but the gravy was fire. The macaroni salad that came with it was solid, not amazing. It also came with 2 big scoops of rice and some veggies. The chicken katsu ended up being my favorite part -- big pieces of chicken, good crispy texture, really well done. The galbi had good flavor and wasn't too chewy, which can be hit or miss at some spots. My wife also had leftovers because of the generous portions. Overall, it was a good experience. Roseville needs a good Hawaiian spot and this might be it. We'll definitely be back to try more.

First time coming here. We ordered online for a pickup. The order was ready when I got there. I got the grilled chicken, chicken katsu, and the bbq beef. Also, got double Mac instead of rice. Reasonable prices and delicious meats. There were pieces of carrots, a giant piece or broccoli, and a nice bed of shredded cabbage under the meat. Definitely will be back when craving Hawaiian bbq.

Great Kalbi Short Ribs! We used to pass this place when it was Roll-Em-Up Taquitos, on our way to Khan Mongolian BBQ a few doors down. TBH, couldn't figure out why someone would go to a restaurant to get taquitos. Then a few weeks ago, we noticed a sign for Sam'l. We didn't even realize the taquito place had closed lol. Pleasant, family-run business. Owner Sam runs it with his daughter, Mary. Huge menu. I got the bbq chicken and kalbi short ribs. Husband got the seafood and bbq chicken. We also tried their pork lumpia, spam musubi and potstickers. Lumpia was good, especially with their sweet and sour sauce. Not impressed with the potstickers. Tasted some of their ice creams (banana chocolate chip and mango calamansi) which weren't too bad. Reasonably priced at $5.50 each. I'd say their best dish is the kalbi short ribs. It was pretty amazing. The bbq chicken wasn't too bad either. They charge $1 extra if you opt for 2 mac, 1 rice like I usually do at L&L or Ono. Not worth it since the mac salad was kinda bland in my opinion. Rice wasn't very good either. Took quite a while to receive order. Would advise to call in the order if you don't have time to wait. Would go back for more kalbi short ribs and maybe husband to try one of their moco loco plates. Prices are reasonable, especially for Roseville. Many tables inside for dine-in also. Neat place!

Bbq plate with katsu, bbq beef, and bbq chicken. Tons of food!

Tried this restaurant for the first time last week and I was very impressed! My new favorite place for Hawaiian bbq. The musubi was so flavorful! Getting that every time for sure. Also tried the lumpia which was average, and then I ordered the bbq plate. It came with chicken katsu, bbq chicken, and bbq beef. The katsu is so crispy and the bbq beef was very yummy! I love the sauce that comes on it. The Mac salad is a little boring and bland in my opinion. I'll probably just do rice next time. I ordered takeout so can't speak on the service or ambiance.

Food tasted really good. Prices are good! Service was fast. Restaurant was nice. Besides the decent prices the food was all surprisingly good. 5 stars Bbq Chicken Mini plate. Chicken was tender and had good flavor. Hard to see but had some veggies like carrots, broccoli, and cabbage underneath the chicken. Mac salad was good. 5 stars Spam Musubi. Tasted pretty good. $6.49 for 2 not bad. Menu didn't specify how many pieces you get, but they both tasted good. 5 stars Pork Lumpia. Tasted good. Plenty of pork filling. 5 stars 6 Buffalo chicken wings. Good taste. Nice size wings. Not a bad price considering how much other restaurants are charging.

Fantastic! We came on the first day they opened, and ordered the katsu and bbq combo so that we could try several menu items at once. Everything was delicious! The bbq beef was tender and flavorful, and the bbq chicken was juicy. The katsu chicken was well-fried and yummy. Friendly staff made sure we had the sauces at our table and described them to us. (Also, try the chili oil at the soda counter...I loved it on my rice!) The mac salad was also delicious. Ambience is casual, airy, clean, and modern with the relaxing sounds of Hawaiian music wafting through the air. Overall great value for a nice-sized portion. We will return! Welcome to the neighborhood Sam'L!

I got the poke bowl, which was fresh and tasty, though I would've liked a little more fish and a little less rice. My mom and son ordered rice plates, and the chicken katsu was massive. Seriously, each cutlet looked like two chicken breasts in one. My wife tried the sushi burrito, which was packed, but it fell apart once she unwrapped it. Not a dealbreaker, just messy because it was loaded with food. The kids shared ramen and Spam musubi, and I ended up trying both. The ramen was surprisingly phenomenal, especially the roast pork, and the Spam musubi were huge. Overall, this is the kind of spot you go to when you're really hungry and want big portions, solid Hawaiian comfort food, and good service. I always crave Chaodown Poki! I'm thinking I need to be here at least once a week!…read more I was just in here the other day and thinking... I have been to other poki places and nothing compares to the freshness, the flavor... and THE PRICE! I am always satisfied with the flavor and I am so happy that after getting a large bowl (5 scoops of protein!) I have enough to make 2 meals out of it! I always go with their fresh salmon (there is tuna and scallops available as well), but let's start with the base... I have them put in some spring mix in the togo container and then cover that with some white rice. Brown rice is an option as well. Next, you pick your protein. In a separate bowl, they put your protein into it and you have your choice of success they can toss it in. I like a sweet and savory, with some spicy, so I go with sweet and spicy mayo, salty sesame shoyou, sometimes sweet unagi, and definitely add sesame and chili oil... what can I say, I am a saucy girl! Then they put that tossed fresh fish over the base. Then you pick your toppings. There is a soft boiled egg, cucumber, pineapple, crab mix, seaweed salad, kimchee, masago (they also have spicy), jalapenos, green onions, and so many more choices. To top it off, you can add the chili oil, soy sauce, furkake, and crispy wontons. For measly $22 and change your got an easy 2 meals. Please, don't forget to leave a tip! I like to sit inside and eat half here. They are always working hard with online orders and customers walking in. I like to use the chopsticks, but I also get a togo fork as well in case my daughter eats my other half (highly likely!) The biggest reason for this review is that this is the best price around. The best fresh flavor around! If you guys like poki bowls, I absolutely encourage you to come to Chaodown Poki and I promise you'll be a fan, too! There is teriyaki chicken here as well if you aren't down with the fresh taste of fish!

Decent portion size and quality for the price. I'd come back to try more combos!

We were able to sub out a scoop of Macaroni Salad for more rice. The order came with teriyaki sauce, katsu sauce, & a creamy garlic sauce or spicy sriracha mayo. EVERYTHING has been SO delicious!!! The chicken dishes are flavorful & succulent, the pork is soft & moist, the katsu has good thickness/coating/texture, & the beef is flavorful & tender. The mac salad is spot on for me. The crunchy salad is shaved cabbage & carrots with a tangy dressing. The sauces are great too! The creamy garlic once came as a sub for spicy mayo for the katsu, the other katsu sauce is unique with a thinner consistency & hint of sweetness (versus being thick with prominent Worcestershire flavor). We decided to try something local and came across Big Island Hawaiian BBQ, which was a close enough drive from where we live so we figured, why not give this spot a try? Overall, we had a really great first experience. The quality of the food stood out right away as everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. We were honestly very impressed with how good everything tasted. Even though the portions aren't as packed as some other Hawaiian BBQ spots, the food absolutely hits all the Hawaiian flavors and cravings we love, and we left very satisfied. The pricing was decent (slightly cheaper than other Hawaiian food spots), the interior was clean and well-kept, and I appreciated the designated sauce station on top of having sauces at each table for convenience. To top it all off, the Pineapple Dole Whip was the perfect dessert as it was light, refreshing, and such a great finishing touch. Another big thing to note is that they offer Musubi Mondays, where you can get 50% off musubis. My husband immediately noticed the sign for it in the front of the store and was so excited. We thought how it was such a sweet deal that we are already considering coming back on a Monday just for that to stock up on musubis to eat at home. However, there is a max of 2 orders per customer for the Musubi Monday deal, but still totally worth it to try. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is purely because of portion size compared to other Hawaiian places. The spam musubis are also a bit small in size compared to other places that make spam musubi but the teriyaki sauce that goes with it makes it better! That said, the quality, taste, and overall experience definitely make up for it! This is officially going to be our new go-to spot for Hawaiian food moving forward, and we're excited to come back again soon!

I didn't want to write this review but I had a concern about something about the menu. I ordered the tequenos de pollo as an appetizer and the menu didn't say anything about it having cheese in which was perfect. I got the order and it in fact had cheese. I'm lactose intolerant and really sensitive to dairy so I asked about the cheese being in it. He confirmed it was in there, so I asked if they can just take it back- the waiter said no. I then asked if they can just take it off the bill because I couldn't eat it. He said no to that too. My husband doesn't eat meat and my son is lactose intolerant so it was going to be food wasted and money down the drain. I was pretty shocked because I've never been to a restaurant where they can't reasonable accommodate the guest. I then ordered my entree and the chicken was very dry and overcooked. I was not satisfied but I knew they wouldn't let me swap it for something else. Unfortunately I'm not going to rush to come back. The waiter was friendly enough but not accommodating. I get nervous when it comes to food allergies because now I know that some restaurants aren't disclosing food allergens which is actually not allowed. There are folks out here with life threatening allergies, so these places need to be careful. I'm glad I'm not one of those people but it's still disappointing.
