Visiting Salem and loonies for clam chowder for my daughter who craves it. Saw some positive…read morereviews so gave them a shot. This is an order at the counter takeout style place but that was what doing anyways so no worries. Chowder: B-. Fair amount of clams but too much thicker that just took away from the soup as a whole. Disappointed Shellfish platter. I'll rate by the item in the platter Calamari: B+. Nice strips and fried well but no seasoning so just bland Panko shrimp: C. overcooked and no seasoning. Basically tasted like poor frozen box shrimp Oysters: C- Literally could fit on face of a quarter they were so small. And overcooked. I couldn't taste the oyster at all. Overall you can do a lot better

My husband and I finally found time to try this place and we weren't disappointed!…read more Walking in the place is very small. There's only 5 tables and they are very close together. That is the only downside to this place. They have some colorful paint on the wall that was nice. When you come in, you order your food and then go sit down and they will bring it to you. We ended up ordering their 8 piece cod because it's cheaper than ordering 2 four pieces. She was nice enough to separate it for us without us asking. The food came out quick and it was not overly greasy. The cod had a nice batter and had a fresh clean taste. It was still moist and flaky. They were great sized also. As for the fries they came out hot and crisp. Some of the best fries I've had in a long time. The coleslaw was lacking flavor and depth but not a big deal. We got 3 sauces: tartar sauce was very good! The garlic aïoli had great flavor and wasn't overpowering. The ginger lime was very mild and wasn't a good choice in my opinion. They all seemed to be homemade and there were so many choices.

Went here while on a work trip and the food was phenomenal…read more It's an order and pay at the counter then get your food when it's ready kind of bar atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Their ciders are great, I tried the Viking Cherry Cider and loved it so much I bought a six pack to take home, at $18 for 6 it was still absolutely well worth it. For food my coworker got the Fish and Chips, deep fried in beef tallow for those who avoid seed oils, and said it was excellent. I had a caesar salad and fries to go with my cider and it was a lovely meal. This will absolutely be one of our go-to spots when in Salem from now on.

The inside atmosphere is sports bar fabulous plenty of seating for groups or couples. We shared a juicy hazy IPA and an order of scotch eggs while sitting on the patio, which is shaded and comfortable with both picnic tables and bar-top seating. I was thrilled to find that the scotch eggs were not only delicious but also authentically prepared. The yolk was soft and slightly runny, and the crust was perfectly crisp and flavorful. This establishment is a true hidden gem. While the food prices are a little steep, the quality definitely makes it worthwhile. We will be back!

I have been jonesing for a good fish and chips meal and The Battered Fish and Chips is up to the…read morechallenge. We ordered a captains plate (minus oysters ‍) and the gals shared a 4 piece fish and chips. The captains plate, being fried, was great. And the cod overall is quite tasty. Another reviewer marked them down for having mushy batter and I would say, it will be mushy if you leave it too long. It was light and crispy in the restaurant. Their tartar is dilly and nice. I ordered a chowder because I think one is obliged to try the chowder and while it is tasty, it is quite bacon forward. I would order it again... but I wouldn't call it the best chowder I've ever had. The fries are really crispy and delicious. The prices are fine. The service was good. Pleasant and friendly folks who answered our silly questions. The place is clean and tidy. If you are eating the food quickly after receiving it you will enjoy it I think. I'm not in Salem a lot but if I want fish and chips I'd stop in again.

Small pieces of fish, and the fish was dry and the batter was mushy under the crisp exterior. The Gordon's fish pieces you buy at the grocery store are more tender and crisper. The clam strips were burned. Too dark, making them like chewing charcoal. Fries were good, but very small amount in comparison to splitting them amongst 8 pieces of fish. Value for the food was not good. Too expensive for the small amount of food you receive. Overpriced for quality and quantity.

Oh, man... this was my best seafood experience yet! I…read morevisited at about 6PM on a Thursday and was promptly seated for a table of 2. We seriously had the SWEETEST server! She took SUCH good care of us and was super knowledgeable about the menu items and market prices. We got our drinks within minutes and she made sure they were never empty. Not to mention, she checked in on us multiple times during our visit. I ordered the combo # 2 and added a Dungeness crab to it. That bad boy was FRESH. The whole boil was dripping in sauce, cooked perfectly and let me tell you... the Louisiana flavor seasoning is IT!! It's the perfect mix of Cajun and garlic butter. The main star was definitely the Dungeness, but the snow crab was a close second! The legs were a really good size and full of meat! The shrimp was great too! (I always get head-on) I left soooo full and satisfied! Overall, the food was amazing and the service was the best I have received in years.. We will be back soon!

Mixed Bag (o crab)…read more The food was almost all great. We tried garlic fries, salad, clam chowder, snow crab, king crab, and lobster. DS picked this restaurant for celebrating his 18th b-day, so it was disappointing that his king crab was twice as expensive as the snow crab and not great quality. Everything else was great - fresh, saucy, and well-seasoned. I liked that we could add potatoes and sausages to fill out our meal. The service was weird. Our waitress was really sweet and friendly, but seemed clueless. There was nothing on the table - no napkins or salt shakers or utensils. I had to ask for a fork for my salad, then for utensils for the crabs. The ambience was a mixed bag. There was a homeless guy next to our van and signs of a recent campfire. The restaurant was mostly empty, but they didn't offer my family a booth - we had to sit with our kids at a table in the bar. The lighting was good. It was very frustrating not to have metal forks and crab picks. It feels like a high end restaurant, but the utensils are cheep disposable plastic and there was a weird robot was talking too loudly in a weird high pitched girlish voice. The bathroom was really dirty. Overall, I would eat here if someone else were paying because the food was mostly great. For the price, I would want a few improvements.
