big boy breakfast - plus the french toast

LOVED this place! Went around 11 a.m. Sunday for family breakfast and didn't have to wait. Amazing variety of items on the menu and very reasonable prices (see pictures of menus). Way more reasonable than the "chain" place down the street. This is truly a local breakfast spot. Even though we were "out of towners" we got very friendly service and many coffee refills. All the food was very good and sadly a couple of us couldn't finish all our plates...very generous helpings! Two of us got the "big boy breakfast", and yes it really does come with bacon and sausage and ham...not just "a choice of"! Will definitely visit again when we're in the area, very happy we chose this place over other breakfast options in the area!

Sammy J's offers the best breakfast in southern New Hampshire. Given the many choices, this is a very very high assessment but I stand by it. The ingredients are obviously very very fresh and they are cooked to perfection. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and professional and all seem to have a great sense of humor. Whoever designed the menu was a genius. The selections are wide ranging, typical and unique at the same time. The presentation is diner plus. There are always specials. It's open and spacious with plenty of parking. When you leave you are charged for the day, not dragged down with heavy greasy fare. The lunch business is very brisk so it must be good. The prices are very very affordable.

Sammy J's is a diner style restaurant where the food is cheap and served in big portions. That being said, the food is bland and full of preservatives. I ordered the Veggie Omelette with jalapeños and a side of salsa. The veggie omelette arrived in a large portion with two pieces of toast cut and buttered as well as hash-browns. Everything needed salt but tasted decent. I could tell the jalapeños came from a can and weren't not fresh based on the color. The salsa was also canned and not fresh. The hash browns had no garlic or salt and tasted like heated potatoes- I don't even know how to describe them other than bland. On the other hand, I tried my brother in law's apple pancake and it was very good! Maybe sweet dishes are prepared better here? The service here is great. Staff is very friendly and the service is fast. I wish the food here matched the service.

This has become our go to place for breakfast, the food is always good and they have new yummy specials every time. The Italian French toast is lovely, and here and there they have stuffed french toast in their specials, get it!!

Food went down hill. Our server was nice but 20 minutes is to long for breakfast especially when it's not busy.

While I grew up in Salem, NH - I loved to Los Angeles almost 20 years ago and every year at Christmas time look forward to my parents sending us Farmhouse Roasters Coffee at Christmas time. I wouldn't say we're exactly coffee snobs, but let's just say we like what we like, and enjoy nice dark blends. My wife and I have made it a bit of tradition to buy each other different types of artisan coffee around the holidays from many local shops, brewers, etc... and honestly, I think Farmhouse Roasters Farmhouse Blend beats anything out there. I feel like we're kind of "chasing the high" as we search for different coffees to try, and always come back to Farmhouse Roasters which is super consistent every time. The restaurant is great too, but honestly, we haven't been since pre pandemic so I can't give a detailed review... but it's worth it to simply load up on coffee if you're local or buy online... which we need to do more often.

I would definitely come back.

Anyways, Crack'd Kitchen totally lives up to its namesake, for every single egg product here utilizes (wait for it).....REAL cracked eggs!! This may seem like a rudimentary feature. But when you take into consideration how many short-order breakfast places rely on liquid or processed egg, things like this are graciously appreciated by those of us with a palate above that of a seven-year-old. So, I had an opportunity to try this place out both to-go and dine-in. Right upfront, I will say the food is far superior when enjoyed dine-in style. Given the distance from my house, I can aptly say we'll be mostly opting for dine-in (unless the dining area is hella crowded). For to-go, I tried the Country Breakfast whilst the dine-in meal was one of their sammiches; The Basic, to be precise. Overall, both were little short of greatness in their own ways. Though, I made a few casual observations. As mentioned earlier, this stuff is way more enjoyable inside the restaurant. Ergo, I probably should have reversed which meal I ordered when. Despite that minor setback, I think I actually liked the Country Breakfast more than the sammich. Whilst the former carries decently well as a to-go plate, the latter could have benefited from some seasoning on the eggs. I guess that's why they also offer sandwiches with various special sauces. Not gonna lie....I am slightly curious about their honey-sriracha sauce. One day I shall be brave enough to fancy it. One other complaint I have about the platter specifically: you only get half as many hashbrowns with the meal. For....some reason. Meanwhile, I ordered a side of hashbrowns with my sandwich and it came with six. I would assume that'd be the standard across the board so....make it make sense? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Btw....I should probably mention the only reason I'm stuck on this point is because the hashbrowns themselves are amazeballs! They don't even need ketchup, but comes with it if you fancy that sort of thing. A few other housekeeping deetz: their gender ambiguous restrooms are located toward the back entrance. There is also complimentary water for folks dining in. So, yeah. We'll certainly be revisiting this place from time to time. Perhaps I'll even try a couple of over-easy eggs at some point. Till then, Crack'd Kitchen and Coffee in Salem gets 4 cracked eggs with bacon and beautifully seasoned hashbrowns out of 5.

Today was the latter and my first negative review. We tried out Ellie's for the first time. The eggs were supposed to be over medium and were didn't even make it to over easy. They were super runny and the whites weren't fully cooked. They were more like under easy and the peppers and onions were crunchy / not cooked. We did like the sausage and bacon and the French toast was ok enough but definitely skip the hash browns too. Unseasoned and bland. Add in that the woman seating people seemed to hate her life. It came off rude to many how she was directing people to the back waiting area "I can't have you all here" We are for sure "one and done" and after I typed this all out it hit me they're technically in Methuen but darn it, I am still gonna post it. We tried to decline a GC from the manager as we won't be going back but she brought one anyway. We won't use it.

It was definitely full of whimsy and love. Our table was ready right on time. The spanakopita was an unexpected large bubble of dough vs traditional, so if you want traditional, heads up. It was fine, though. They had a decent Valentine's Day themed drink menu too. I'd guess it was their normal drinks with cute names for the day, but as a first timer I could be way off here. The short ribs were large, meaty and tender. Quite delicious. The mashed potatoes were cold but at least if you had a bite with the meat you couldn't tell as much. My lady got the chicken souvlaki and we both loved it. All in all, Greek is rarely ever going to be my first choice but this is what you do when your love wants it :) I'd be interested in going in for lunch on a non holiday hoping they have some good Greek pizza. Nice staff. Definitely felt pressured to order booze but after saying I was set it did settle. Our waitress was super friendly and kind.
