I've been to Duffy's a handful of times over the past couple years and it never disappoints. The parking situation can be a little rough on weekends and they close pretty early, but the food hits the spot and the servers are sweet and really efficient. The prices are so good - I have never paid over $50 for 2 people. I usually get the french toast with a fried egg, bacon, and occasionally hash browns. This is one of my go to places for breakfast. The Food is always good, the staff friendly and quick. The prices are on par with most others in the area. I would say be prepared to spend about $20 per Adult. It's a relaxed atmosphere and I was never felt rushed. This specific day I got "The Hilly" Omelette which has homemade corned beef and cheese, and comes with hash browns (or beans) and toast. You definitely get enough food for your money. I don't know much about Haverhill, just that this RMV was the quickest to get an appointment. Anyway, stopped here after. Breakfast portions are ample in size and probably one of the least expensive I've found in years. Eggs were cooked precisely as asked. I ordered well done home fries and they were! Unfortunately, they really had no flavor. No, seasonings, no onions, just plain. Not bad, just plain. Their toast was phenomenal and I'm assuming homemade. Super chewy rye! Yum! My biggest complaint was the corned beef hash. I was so excited that the menu said Homemade. Beyond AWFUL! It was basically ground (not chopped) corned beef fried to death on the griddle. Whenever I don't feel like cooking up breakfast, my favorite meal, I drop into Duffy's. The service is excellent. The poached eggs perfect. I like that you can make up your own combos. Aside from eggs Benedict, I put together one piece of the yummy French Toast-1 poached egg on top- and coffee, great choice. My daughter joined me on President's Day and gave Duffy's a thumbs up too. We had a wonderful breakfast at Duffy's! It was our first time and glad we got their early as the crowds came in shortly thereafter. Great menu and they make their own corned beef hash! I had the special beef brisket with eggs $9.99 and the brisket was tender and well seasoned. Not smoked. Eggs cooked perfectly. I also had the hash browns. Nice and crispy. Hubs had the hash omelette and baked beans. Excellent! Service was friendly and pleasant. I want to go again and try some hash! read more

Typical mediocre New England diner. Crowded with waitresses running all over the place pouring stale coffee. Maybe the whole greasy spoon thing isn't for me, or maybe I just haven't found a good one yet. I ordered the special of the day, which was half (???) of a Belgian waffle with bananas and walnuts, two scrambled eggs, and two sausage links. Seriously? Who serves half a waffle? Between that, the overdone scrambled eggs, and the two sausage links that probably came from the freezer, my plate looked absolutely pitiful. It was pretty cheap, maybe $7-8, but I would have much rather paid a few bucks more to get a full waffle. My experience wasn't so bad that I would never go back, but it certainly didn't leave me wanting to return any time soon. read more

Food was delicious and my waitress was great!! The problem I had was what I was charged. I ordered 2 eggs with a side and an english muffin (5.75) and added bacon (3.00). I ordered my 2 year old 1 egg and toast off the kids menu (1.50). Drinks-small OJ and 1 coffee (3.50). My total was $19.11!!! Since my daughter had her own drink her breakfast was $1.50. So I paid $17.61 for myself to have to eggs over medium, hashbrowns, an english muffin and 4 pieces of bacon? I have reached out the restaurant three times now through their FB page. All three messages were read and have not gotten a response. Needless to say that will be my first and last time at Duffy's. read more

Don't be fooled by the somewhat shabby looking waiting room. This place is 10/10, voted best breakfast in the area for a reason certainly. We're from out of town and stopped by after an overnight stay in the Salem area. We put our name in and were seated rather quickly. The dining room is spacious and so quaint, I loved the atmosphere. It is well-lit by natural light and the twinkle lights are so cute. I ordered a veggie omelette, my boyfriend ordered eggs and hash, and of course a banana chocolate chip pancake to split. Coffee refills flowed without asking, the food arrived promptly (but not too fast? Just enough time to chat without being pissed that our food hadn't arrived) and was deliciously prepared. The prices are very, very reasonable as well. This is a definite must-try for breakfast. read more

Duffy's in my go to breakfast spot. I always get the Irish Eggs Benny with shredded hashbrowns. My husband loves the kilbasa and swiss omelt and our daughter loves the GIANT pancakes. Always consistent and always delicious. The ambiance is like an old neighborhood diner with waitresses that have worked there for many years and serve breakfast with a smile. This morning I brought my parents for breakfast and heard loud yelling coming from the kitchen. Cooks were yelling ORDER UP! ORDER!! then another time they yelled MICHELLE! But I want to spend the review talking about the two specific things that make me choose Duffy's over other places that make decent breakfast/brunch food: 1. Duffy's makes things other places don't make. In particular, sausage gravy and biscuits. Most of the people I know around here have never even tried sausage gravy on biscuits. It's not exactly a common food up north. When I told my partner he had to try it, and described it to him, he went, "So it's like... a sausage chowder? On... bread?" Ha. But, if you've never tried sausage gravy on biscuits, I assure you it's much more than that. You MUST try it. And if you've ever had gravy and biscuits before and miss it, this is the place to go. 2. The ambiance is lovely. Noisy, bustling diners certainly have their place. But when you want something more relaxing (but still with prompt service!), Duffy's is an ideal choice. It's quieter than many diners, and also more beautiful. The interior is modern-rustic with some fairy lights for decoration. It has a romantic feel to it if you want to go there as a date, while still being casual enough that it doesn't feel weird to go there with your family or even just by yourself. We have been there 3 times. The head wait-staff at the front door are not friendly. The wait staff for the tables are accommodating. The food and the coffee are mediocre at best. The prices are outrageous for the quality of the food. The lead cook has a take it or leave it attitude towards all customers. The interior is dark, uninviting and unfinished. The wood all has a sticky feel to it, like unfinished varnish. There are several, better quality breakfast places nearby. read more

Very homey classy American breakfast alert In search of another special morning meal I have found this hidden gem up in northern Massachusetts and this one is for the books. Lot's of customers coming and going and the staff running against time, breaking a sweat trying to serve every one. I sat on the bar and there was only one lady cleaning the counter and picking up orders and she's so sweet, kudos to the management hiring this waitress. I made a special order, house fries with green peppers, scrambled eggs and bacon, lots of it... it came with a delicious toast and butter. I also ordered 2 pancakes but the waitress alerted me "I think it might be too much for you, they're big pancakes. Maybe one?" So I listened, and she was right, it would have been too much, even though they were delicious! I also made sure to order pure maple, for $3 extra, but always worth it in my opinion. The Irish Benne took a turn for the worst!! I've been eating breakfast at Duffys for over 3 years and it has always been the absolute best Irish corned beef benne I've ever eaten...that is until the last 2 visits! Reason: The cook is adding additional spices or flavors either intentionally or due to the oils used on the grill that has dramatically altered the flavor. I told the waitress a week ago that the flavor had changed but thinking it may have been just a one time error I thought I'd try it again....so after a week later I ordered the same...but alas it was that same spice that, at least for me, set me off in ever ordering it again. Again, I mentioned it to the waitress as well as writing my comments on the bill that this will be my last visit to Duffys due to the changes made in their corned beef hash. Duffy's Diner opened recently in the former Ralph's Restaurant on MA Route 125 in Ward Hill. The owners of this breakfast and lunch restaurant also own Casey's Diner in Plaistow, NH. The place is pretty casual with 2 dining areas with wooden floors including the front room with a C shaped counter surrounded by 14 high seats and 3 tables for 4 people each. The back dining room has ample soft booths. As for the food offerings, they offer traditional American fare. The breakfast offerings include eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, homemade hash, and breakfast sides. The lunch offerings include sandwiches, wraps, melts, burgers, salads, soups, and dinners (steak tips, kielbasa, broiled burgers, Meatloaf, pot roast, Chicken). Pepsi fountain drinks here. I stopped here for breakfast recently, early AM. I was offered coffee as I sat myself at the counter. The fresh brewed coffee ($1.75) was good, poured into a Casey's Diner mug. I ordered the Irish Omelet ($8.00) with home fries and wheat toast, egg beaters style (add $1). The very generous plate of hot food arrived in under 10 minutes. The big Omelet was a folded egg sheet filled with grilled homemade corned beef hash, sauerkraut, and melted Swiss cheese). The home fries were lightly grilled fresh cut potatoes, seasoned with salt. The wheat toast cut in triangles were lightly buttered, Welch's preserves at the tables. I had some of my breakfast boxed to go. Overall, the food was tasty and filling. The service here was good and I was offered refills on the coffee, which I definitely needed. I can recall that there was an Unofficial Yelp Event (UYE) several years ago in this same building when it was Evenfall. read more

Duffy's is a pretty typical diner. Nothing special, but usually acceptable. My family has been here a handful of times for breakfast since it's not too far from home. Today's visit was not good. My wife and daughter both got the pumpkin pancake on special. When it arrived, my daughter noted it was pretty raw. She didn't want to send it back, but my wife did. I got a veggie omelette which was as expected - average. My daughter and I continued eating while my wife waited. We finished eating before the cooked pancake returned (15-20 minutes). We tried to get the waitress' attention a number of times during our wait but she only made contact when she brought back the pancake and we were done. I would expect a restaurant to take that pancake off the bill since my wife was unable to eat with us during the meal, but that didn't happen. The waitress apologized, but charged us the full amount. I was very unsatisfied as a customer and Duffy's made it clear to me that our satisfaction was not their priority. They wanted their $10 for the pancake. We won't be rushing back to Duffy's. read more
