Open for breakfast only, and closes at noon, Al's Family Diner is a busy place on a Sunday morning. The menu is small and limited, yet standard American breakfast fare. I had a very good BLT on toasted Italian bread. Dennis had a omelette. Good coffee here. AL's is a real community place, all locals, many all know each other and were socializing. I am not sure if I would go back. It was good, but I don't like to stand in line for 20 minutes on a cold Sunday morning.

Down home cooking. Small town friendly diner! Highly recommend this place. Everyone knows everyone. Staff is very friendly. Cash only.... but there is a bank with atm nearby. Food made to order.

Update: Still the best breakfast in the valley! Just remember cash only. Al's Family Diner is breakfast perfection in a town full of poor fast food chain breakfast sandwiches. I am so glad I discovered Al's. My lovely significant other lives in town and we had to drive to Salem NH to find a decent breakfast before discovering Al's. I had the fried bologna special. I know that not everyone favorite breakfast - unless you where raised poor and white like me and have a fondness for this ethnic dish. I will say the fried bologna was perfect, but also the over easy eggs where perfect. It came with a side of yummy homemade home fried potatoes. I also tried a side of there New England style baked beans and they were good. My girlfriend had me order her a stack of pancakes and bacon to bring home to her. The order was huge - HUGE - with bacon cook right She found it delicious. I found the service quick and friendly. I noticed other diners had a huge breakfast sub looking sandwich on Italian bread that was layered with breakfast fare. I need to try this next time And, they have a big selection of speciality omelets needing trying. My food arrived HOT and they timed the pancakes to take home for her perfectly for when I finished. (I let her sleep in on a Saturday- because if you love someone you let them sleep) Al's has been there for 22 years according to the sign on the wall. The place is a little dated but furnished with sturdy oak tables and a huge oak bar that make a perfect breakfast table. It is kind of hidden in a sports/golf center. You will find the door on the left side if the sports center. But don't let the little entrance fool you. It is not a typical hole in the wall joint. it is fairly roomy inside. I will recommend upgrading the toast that comes with most meals to their super-sized english muffin. It is big and came grilled to buttery perfection. It was the best part of a near perfect breakfast. Well worth the extra fifty-cents. And be aware they are cash only, but with the reasonable prices this wasn't a big issue.

Four in our party waited about 25 minutes on a Sunday late morning about 45 minutes before closing. The line was out the door but diners were leaving. A booth finally freed and we took our seats. Our waitress came immediately and she was lovely. I decided on two scrambled eggs, corned beef hash, home fries and wheat toast, a friend the spinach and mushroom omelette, rye toast, hash browns, my sister the chicken gravy over biscuits, home fries, scrambled eggs and my BIL, the spinach and cheese omelette, english muffins and home fries. Corned beef hash was good but I thought a bit salty, home fries were really nicely seasoned, hot and crispy and not greasy. Eggs...average, hard to mess up scrambled eggs. My sister enjoyed her biscuits and gravy. Overall, a pretty good breakfast but nothing we would all rave about. Very reasonable.

If you're looking for a classic breakfast, look no further. Als serves up a hearty breakfast with a menu similar to millions of breakfast joints. The difference is the flavor of the dishes. Everything is cooked and seasoned to perfection. The cooks out back really know how to take a breakfast meal you could get anywhere and really make the dish explode with flavor. Prices are fair and the waitresses are on point.

The best breakfast around! Always exceptional and prices excellent!

Been going here since a kid. Food is excellent. Al and his wife run a tight ship. Prices are excellent due to no credit cards and cash only! Coffee is excellent. I've been to IHOP, Cracker-barrel, Friendly's, and on and on . No one can top this place l. Friendly staff, clean , and super fast. This is the only place I'll go to breakfast in the area. Worth the trip within a 20-30 mile radius if you want your meal done right. I been good to ALs since they started in the small trailer near Jackson street in Lawrence. Al and his wife are awesome and this place rocks ! No complaints whatsoever!

One of the best breakfasts in Methuen. I have noticed I end up spending a bit more than I do at some equally good places in Salem.

**We found our new favorite spot!**…read more My partner and I stumbled upon Nan's Kitchen and what a delightful discovery it was! As first-timers, we were treated with such warmth and patience by the staff - no pressure, no rush, just genuine hospitality that made us feel right at home. We started by sharing the hatch chili farro bowl with roasted cauliflower and hominy, fragrant ginger carrots, and lemon mustard salmon. The tomato harissa sauce and zhoug were absolutely incredible - seriously, these sauces are to die for! Everything was perfectly seasoned and the flavors were so well-balanced. Pictures are not perfect, but the lighting was so warm and comfortable, you will have to excuse them! Halfway through our meal, I spotted they had coconut carrot soup with chickpeas and ginger on the menu and literally ran back to order a cup. We ended up sharing that too, and it was such a smart move - the soup was aromatic and comforting with just the right amount of spice from the ginger. To drink, we had fresh lemonade and iced tea (both perfectly refreshing), and couldn't resist finishing with their banana pudding, which was the perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal. What really stood out beyond the exceptional food was how accommodating and friendly the service was. They made splitting dishes feel completely natural and were so welcoming when I dashed back for that soup! The attention to flavor and seasoning here is remarkable - every single component of our meal was thoughtfully prepared. We're already planning our next visit. Nan's Kitchen has absolutely earned a permanent spot on our regular rotation! Highly recommend for anyone looking for fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared food with service that makes you feel like family.

When we were in the process of losing our soul mate of a dog to lung cancer they would go above and beyond for our random orders and would always try to bring a smile to our face when we would pick it up. She wouldn't eat so we would call & ask for plain unseasoned grilled chicken or just bacon or whatever it was they always helped us out. Her last meal was bacon on the beach (her favorite place). Ya know, I once navigated to this place on accident before? Yeah. Still not sure what my GPS was…read moredoing that day. Because I normally go to the one in Salem. But on this day, I thought to myself, "Self, I really hate making that busy-as-hell left turn on South Broadway in Salem. What if we took a journey to the Andover location instead?" And so it was. I enter this cozy little restaurant carefully tucked against a slightly submerged parking garage. Although, I probably shouldn't say "little" because the interior was noticeably larger than its Salem counterpart. It's also noisy AF in there when it gets busier than a New York subway. So naturally, I ordered my usual to-go (a Country Classic with an extra egg and hashbrowns for those who don't know). Only it wasn't *quite* ready on time. Which, to be fair, is kind of a minor point. Thing is, they have to shout your name whenever your order is finally ready. This in and of itself can prove to be quite the challenge when bellowing atop the already roaring crowd of customers impeding the otherwise accessible pickup shelves. I'll do my best to describe the interior since I wasn't really able to take pictures. But try to imagine an L-shaped dining area with the longest part hosting a row of countertop seats facing the windows. Beyond that sits a rather modest dining area with a few more tables. Next to that sits the gender neutral restrooms. It's strange and cramp, particularly when the place is packed tighter than a sardine can. Sufficed to say, I'm not much a fan of the interior design here. Being the partial recluse that I am, I offer the following best practice for a place so riotous: mobile order that shiz, cuh! Seriously. I had to put in my noise cancelling earbuds to appease my misophonia. The good news is....the food is still awesome. The eggs? Creamier than crème fraîche. Taters? Eh, I don't why...but these seemed way more seasoned the very first time I tried them. Fortunately, they actually pair rather well with their refined version of ketchup. The bacon? Well...let's just say I wish it were served well done. Not sure if I'm able to request that. But I'll scope out my options next time and get back to you all. That's it though. Nice place, WAY easier to get to than its Salem counterpart, but a bit too cramp and noisy for my taste which means....I'll likely ever dine in here. It's all good though, because I'm still giving Crack'd Kitchen & Coffee in Andover 4 Country Classics with all the fixins out of 5.
