GET THE SAMOSA!! We got a tray of samosas for school as part of an event and every one was raving about them. The owner was really nice to work with our budget to make it happen. I came to this store before to buy chai, and it was completely watered down barely a pinch of milk or milk powder. The chai was terrible. Today, I came again around 12, hoping it would be better, but the chef said, "No chai today." When I asked why, he just repeated, "No chai today." What kind of logic is this? I really enjoyed the food at Samosa House. I hosted a dinner party at my house and needed to supplement with some yummy vegetarian dishes. The butter "chicken" is out of this world. I will definitely be ordering that over and over. The cauliflower was very good as well. I'm not a fan of jack fruit but if you are, you'll enjoy the Jack fruit curry. The sauces are delicious (it's the Jack fruit consistency that just doesn't do it for me). The rice is delicious (get a big one so you can keep eating the delicious butter "chicken" curry sauce all week. I enjoyed the potato samosa too. All very very good. Service was very nice and offered for me to try items I was indecisive about. Ambiance at this location is very very casual. It feels like a lunch place. Owners steal workers Tips!!!! I was shocked when the staff told me that the tips added when you dine in or take out, don't go them at all! That's unfair and illegal but the staff is too scared to report them or they may lose their jobs. It's no wonder why workers there never smile and look miserable. And The food quality is definitely gone downhill. Tikka Masala was off and sour and I found a hair in my food! But none of that matters when you don't respect your workers. Surprisingly, the vegan options weren't clearly marked and I mistakenly ordered a veggie chicken dish that ended up not being vegan. It was a mistake on my end to not ask, but I falsely assumed most items would be okay, but definitely double check to make sure. I went with their Daal, Jackfruit Curry, and another dish that I honestly can't remember because the food was fairly plain and basic. I appreciated having the veg options but nothing really blew me away or left a memorable mark for me. Oh no. I mean... no. I've driven by many times and I've always wanted to try. But no. Oh no. I'm not Indian but I've been to India multiple times and I understand quality and authenticity. This restaurant represents none of those things. The rice was dry... and reminded me of the cheap kind you get at American grocery stores. The curries were... bad. Not fresh. Flavors were... off. Service is mediocre at best. Not even a smile or welcome but it was fast enough. If you've never tried Indian and are scared of spice, this is a semi decent spot. This was our absolute favorite 10 years ago! We'd have lunch here three times a week. We visited on a Sunday 2/11 4pm (2 people in the restaurant). The samosas were still amazing! The roasted cauliflower is still the best. But the chicken meatballs were so hard and dry, the garlic naan tasted like a cold, but burnt pita with almost no garlic. Holi, also known as the Festival of colors, is a Hindu spring festival. It also incorporates lots and lots of colorful powder. I used to purchase Holi powder at a local Indian market, but they closed down. So while on the search for a new market, I came across Samosa House. I called to see if they had any powder available, and they said yes! I made my way over right away before it sold out. When I entered, I asked a lady that works there where I could find Holi powder. She pointed where it was, and I sprinted over. They had lots of bags and lots of different colors. I purchased about almost 30 bags. After I grabbed my bags, I wondered around the market. They not only have Holi powder, but they have other household items, food, and a little restaurant. I love Indian food, but I've only been to establishments that served meat-based items. That was why I was surprised to discover one which was vegetarian-only. I was even more surprised that prices were incredible-affordable, especially for the three-item combos at $13.99. It's a LOT of food, and it comes with soup and bread! I ordered the three-item combo: aloo curry, saag, and jackfruit with white rice and soup. I did not expect for the aloo curry and jackfruit to be exploding with flavor, but wow, they delivered! Spicy and intensely spiced, they were my favorites of the trio-- the saag was good, but nothing to write home about. I also had a bite of the roasted cauliflower from another plate, and that was really good: the smokiness, the char on that cauliflower was unbelievable, and I wish I had ordered that instead. The mango lassi was refreshing, to cut the heat from the dishes-- however, there was a slight, chalky aftertaste (from the milk?) which I found strange, but still good nevertheless. I used to love Samosa House as a great cheap meal. During the pandemic, I've only been a couple of times, and this last visit was a disappointment. There was a line and only one guy working the counter, so maybe he was a little stressed. I had to ask about getting raita or soup, which is normally included with the combo plates. He begrudgingly grabbed a yogurt but neglected to give me the soup that I had ordered. Sauces had automatically been included in the past, but this time I had to request them. The rice was really wet and mushy. I'm guessing too much water had been added. This was the first time I didn't even want to finish eating my rice. The garlic naan was a little off, lacking the bits of green (parsley? cilantro?) that normally flecks its surface. If you like spicy, get the smoked cauliflower. It's one of my usuals, along with the jackfruit and saag. For less than $10 , the combination is a good deal, since you get a choice of three entrees, rice, naan or chapati, and raita or soup. I like that they don't upcharge for garlic naan like most places do. I'm hoping this was just an off day for them and that the next time I visit (which I'll give it a few months), it will be back to normal. Damn, okay, food but the attitude! Kid takes Tae Kwon Do next door 3 times a week, and they treat us like shit. Ok, if the service was nice, at least once a week. Now, maybe once a month of that! I love samosa house. This is a casual vegetarian takeout restaurant with indoor seating that doubles as an Indian cash and carry market. Yes, it's vegetarian but even my carnivorous husband enjoys this place. To order food, they offer a self-serve ordering kiosk but the workers always try to stop me from using it when I approach it and offer to take my order with them instead. Job security, I guess? The samosas are obviously fire. I have to get one every time. They are served hot with the red and green sauces. They offer a la carte options but the best bang for your buck is to get a two or three entree set meal. Each meal is served with soup or yogurt, rice, and naan (get the garlic naan)! My favorite entree option is the veggie chicken, although they changed it recently and the texture is not the same. The jackfruit and chana masala are also solid. The mango lassi (vegetarian and vegan options) is also super delicious. Sometimes I just order a samosa and a lassi as a snack. Four stars for great food and affordable price. Just not what it used to be. If Shavani reads this, I'm sorry I didn't say so when you asked me if I still came in very often last time you were there. I should have favored honestly over friendlyness. The food that time was actually better than it had been in a while, probably because one of the original owners was in there. The naan was still bad. I went back fairly soon this time because it was good last time. This time, the rice was all chunky and stuck together, like obviously smooth where it congeled on the bottom, entres were ok but the naan is all wrong again. They had old naan sitting wrapped in foil on top of the oven (basically steaming itself, used to be cooled to order). They had one left and I ordered two, so I had to wait for the guy to come out of the kitchen and make another batch. I asked if I could have two fresh naans since I had to wait for one of them to be cooked anyway and the girl behind the counter insisted that the last waiting one she pulled from the top of the stove was "fresh" and refused to give me a fresh one. When I got home, one was cripsy and mostly fluffy, and the other was flat AF and soggy. Hmmm... When I called to tell them that it's not right to do that to customers, the manager said that they make all the naan to order and that what I'm describing coudln't have possibly happened lol. They've been batch cooking the naan for at least a year. This is not the first time the "manager" has insisted they aren't doing what they are doing with bald faced lies. I've had a couple issues with this when I've complained about the decline in service and food quality.
