Mango lassi, samosas, garlic naan, 3 choice combo
    Elsie O.

4 stars because the mango lassi was perfect! Not too sweet or tart. Naans are freshly made to order. This is my first time with this buffet/fast food style way of ordering. The paneer was not fresh, it tasted and had the consistency of firm tofu. Would return only for the lassi.

Trying to decide what I want on my combo plate...

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Used to be great, now just ok. This used to be our go-to when the hubby lived in the area, and we were both looking forward to our usual: 3-item combo, garlic naan, and sweet lassi. On our last visit things looked the way they always have, but once we dug into the food, we couldn't help but notice that the dishes we once relied on, like the saag and aloo gobi, were bland and didn't quite hit the mark. The naan and lassis were fine, but we're not sure if we'd go out of our way to revisit when there are so many other places that are probably better. Maybe we got them on an off day, but why take the chance.

amazing taste, amazing prices, fast service, and free parking. this place has everything you could want. i am definitely coming back!

Some snacks from Samosa House's supermarket

I'm a huge fan of Samosa House, and I wanted to try this branch out! Not only does it serve food, but also has a supermarket attached to it selling all sorts of Indian produce and snacks. I ordered my usual dishes (samosas, naan, cauliflower curry, vegetarian chicken) and grabbed a few snacks from the supermarket. There was a bit of miscommunication when I paid (i.e. I was accidentally charged more for my rice) and even though I didn't mind, the cashier would not take a no and refunded me! Awesome food, kind staff, and I will definitely be back!

Casual vegetarian spot connected to an Indian grocery store. Came here with a friend on a Tuesday evening around 6:30pm and there was no wait. You order at the counter (via a kiosk or in-person) and can then take a seat. There's plenty of indoor seating and there's a self-service water station. There's street parking that's fairly easy. Credit cards are accepted. We both got a 3 item combo along with a mango lassi. Non-dairy mango lassi is available. We also had a samosa each. The combo come with a choice of roti or garlic naan. I had the vegan chicken, mattar paneer, and jackfruit curry. They all had a good spiciness to them, although I wouldn't get the vegan chicken again. There was plenty of food for a meal and we had leftovers for the following day.

Was in that area and found this place on yelp. Wanted to give it a try. It's an Indian grocery store with a huge dining space. Was happy that I tried. Idli was soft and nice. And was pleasantly surprised how good vada looked and tasted. (Not many places get it right). it was crispy on the out and soft on the inside and cooked well. Sambar and coconut chutney were good too. The tomato chutney was ok. Added this place to my list to visit when am in the area and try other items.

Samosa House Barat Bazaar has been my go to for Desi groceries for over a decade now. But one thing that I love even more than my groceries is the food! There are plenty of options to choose from, VEG ONLY, made to order, or premade in the display to choose. Usuals: 3 item combo items- (favorites) Jackfruit curry, kadhi, channay, aloo gobi, garlic naan and yogurt Samosa Chaat- yummy but their chutney needs work.. Chana Batura- delicious! My favorite item on the menu! Served with chickpea curry, fluffy made to order baturas (puffed bread), onions, yogurt, and pickles. YUMOOOOO Veg Burger- DELICIOUS! Served with chili garlic sauce! My goodness like eating in the streets of Delhi. So good! There are also desert items, which are always nearly fresh as they have them delivered. Nice clean dining area, and always friendly staff! Multitude of options to choose from, and a great location for us Venice Westsiders. Solid food for a quick Indian bite. Cheers Yelpers xx

The dish on the right lower corner was BOMB!!! Wish I got more of that!

Love this back home store/restaurant. It's simple but has great qualities. I got a dish with three sides and my fav was the vegetable curry(wish I could remember the name). The rest was good but maybe not as flavorful. Great prices though and even took plenty home to go for two more meals. The service is casual but friendly.

Delicious tea & chips on the grocery side!

Sunday Night: After my friends & I attended a Museum Event, which had an array of decadent desserts & tea, we were ready for actual food; delicious Indian food. Two of us agreed & stopped at Samosa House (All Vegetarian) for dinner to go! Yum! 3 Items: We both selected the 3 Item meal, which also includes your choice of naan (garlic for the win!) & rice! Score! It was a saucy & colorful meal. I've been coming to this location for years, including the Santa Monica location. First introduced by a friend, originally from India, who made delicious homemade Indian food & shops here. Sometimes I get the 2 Item meal! It depends on my appetite, how hungry I am! Indian Grocery Store: Absolutely love the grocery store, which is attached to the restaurant! I always find something new to try, whether it's a snack, sauce, spice, tea... it's a huge store, so it's always fun to explore and discover something new, as well as get recommendations while I'm there! Customer Service: Quite friendly! Service with a smile & I even discovered one of my favorite teas, which was a recommendation from someone who works there! It's quite the popular item & flavor (Nature's Guru, Cardamom Chai flavor!) and often flies off the shelf! Thank You: In fact, last holiday season, I wanted to share this particular tea with family, as my flight was the next day. They were very resourceful and helpful by checking the back room stock when I stopped by the day before my flight. They kept me updated over several phone calls & when the tea was restocked! Highly grateful & I was able to share with my family members last Christmas! Overall: There's always a rush and pure excitement of going to the Samosa House, as I'm always trying a new dish, it's fun discovering something exciting at the grocery store(Only at this location!) and even dining in on occasions! There is even the cutest, most colorful gift shop section, which I adore! It's an all-around exciting one stop shop! Eat, shop, discover & pick up a gift, let's go!!

Ask the Community - Samosa House and Bharat Bazaar

Does the inside have central air conditioning (HVAC) and/or air purifier(s) to filter indoor air?

Are you requiring patrons to be vaccinated to dine in?

No, they are not. Moreover, I went in there recently and none of the workers behind the counter were wearing their masks over their noses and mouths - the masks were all…

    Is there all vegetarian food?

Hello, yes we are full vegetarian restaurant with many vegan options!

Are they still open for takeout during the Covid 19 pandemic? If yes, does anyone know their hours?…

    Yes

Is bring your own alcohol an option?

Samosa House does not obtain a liquor license. So this means they cannot sell or allow consumption (even if you bring your own) of alcoholic beverages within its premises.

Are there Gujarti dishes on the regular menu or a special menu?

Gujarati dishes are only available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, not on the regular menu.

Can I find paleo options here if I am dining in? If so, what should I look for?

I don't follow Paleo too much, but I do follow a very low carb diet. 25g per day. At Samosa House, I eat everything but the naan and rice. Assuming Paleo at "55% of protein from fish or meat," I don't think you can get there at Samosa House. Lentil…

If I'm vegan, what is a must have meal here?

While I am not at all vegan, it can be a fantastic change of pace when trying a cuisine that is not at all my regular routine. Happily, Variable has tons of choices, and we loved what we got. I was drawn towards the 'N Seoul Bowl' (Korean spicy plant based pork, house marinated Kimchi, organic edamame, steamed organic spinach, carrot, steamed broccoli, onion , organic shiitake, topped with green onion and sesame seeds and side organic quinoa). So good, a bit spicy, and so many flavors on the plate it was impossible to not only love it, but I could not finish it, either. That goes from all their dishes. They are big, and in our experience, it came out piping hot soon after ordering it. My companion tried the 'Indian Tikka Masala' (homemade Indian curry, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, cabbage, chickpea, micro green, Served with blend wild Jasmin rice and Indian Flat Bread). Tastes so fresh, hearty, with just enough of a kick to it. I look forward to trying some of their other dishes, too. The burger that the table near us ordered looked fantastic. I gotta think that everything here is pretty dang great.

It's easily my new go-to. Pro tip: Since I was ordering delivery, I called the restaurant directly right after placing it to ask if they'd leave the patty on the grill just a touch longer than usual. They were so sweet about it and executed it flawlessly. Also, can we talk about the coleslaw? I usually steer clear of restaurant slaw because so many places drown it in heavy, uninviting mayo. But Sunshine absolutely delivered. Their dressing is beautifully light and slightly sweet--honestly, it makes an amazing burger topping. So many vegan spots rely way too heavily on processed, hyper-engineered faux meats and cheeses. This place strikes such a lovely, authentic balance. You can get a genuinely vibrant, healthy bowl, or dive into comfort food classics like their mean vegan chicken sandwich--and I hear the sweet potato fries are a fantastic side, too. To top it all off, the female owners are absolute gems. Even over the phone, they treat everyone with this effortless, warm hospitality that makes you feel like an old friend. Every time, the price deters me from going as frequently. So I was interested when I saw on their site that they changed things up because they know affordability is a concern and they wanted to rebrand as somewhere you could eat regularly instead of just a special occasion. We took our out of state friends who were visiting. For a party of 4 we spent over $400. I also really don't like that they made their rolls only 6 pieces now when they used to be 8 (so much easier to share with 4 people). The food quality is still really good but I don't understand what they mean about their prices having accomodated so people can have it as a regular meal instead of a fancy treat. At that price it still sits squarely in the "fancy treat" box for me. That said there is nothing wrong with being a "fancy treat" kind of place if the entire experience screams "luxury." This time we had the absolute worst service we have ever had. We were 15 min late due to traffic but called to inform them since they charge $25 pp for noshows. They didn't pick up the first time and I got a weird outgoing message and could not leave a message. When I tried again several minutes later, someone picked up and I got my message across. Considering we were late it was really surprising that we had to wait an additional 10 min or so to be seated. A frazzled looking woman just asked us to wait and and said someone else would be with us to seat us. She had us wait at a set table which was really confusing as it was unclear if that was going to be our table (set for 4) or we just were supposed to wait at table to be seated. Eventually we were taken to the other table but we did not even get water for probably 30 min and then only when we asked for some. They did not pour for us. With those prices I would expect prompt service, pulling out chairs, placing napkins in the lap, checking on how the food is and if we need any water, etc. The food took a really long time to come out. In fact we spent an additional 40 min or so after we had eaten waiting for them to make 3 takeout rolls because I think they only had one person in the kitchen. It felt like they had had several members of their staff fall ill in one day with how thin the staff was spread. Two women were running around managing the entire restaurant, trying to seat people, manage bills, orders, cleaning up plates, serving food, etc. When the spicy baked scallop roll arrived the server told us it had already been torched in the kitchen. We had raved to our friends about how they torch it at your table and it clearly is written on the menu when you order it "torched at your table." So, of course this was a huge disappointment. Luckily it is my favorite roll so we ordered a second one and I made sure to request it be torched at the table. But the fact I had to request it when it is expected based on their own menu is bizarre. Finally, we ordered the strawberry rose waffle to share for dessert. After about 10 min we saw what we ordered being served to a table further down and it looked great. When we asked about our dessert, only then did the lady tell us they were sold out out that dessert. What if we had not asked about the status of our order? Would we still be sitting there waiting today? Did she forget we had ordered it? At the end of the night when we were waiting for the to go rolls (with only 1 other party in the restaurant at that point) we received many apologies as it was obvious we were ready to go and just waiting for the food. However apologies only go so far when you have already received subpar service for steep prices. Customer service in this situation would have been apologies plus amends, maybe comping the rolls we ordered to go, or offering any kind of discount on the next visit. Anything at all to back up the apologies. This visit only reconfirmed that Shojin should be reserved for when we have extra time to kill and cash to blow and we will probably just get takeout at this rate if we do go back.
