I ate lunch here, take out, on August 1, 2016, around 1145am. I walked in and ordered the Generals Tso Chicken. It was a big portion! I also ordered two spring rolls, and some sweet sour sauce. Yum! I had a Sunkist to drink. The restaurant was clean. My order was taken quickly and my food order came within just a couple minutes. I'm impressed with how they packaged my to-go bag. It was easy to carry and easy to transport. Important. I took it back to work. The food was warm and fresh. There will be leftovers. The food quality was great. For Chinese take out this is an excellent choice!! I will come back. Check out my pics. My total cost was $15.58 Yes, the price was higher than I expected for lunch, but the portion was big, I bought two extra spring rolls, and SS Sauce. I will have the rest for supper. I haven't ordered food from this place in a while because the last time I did it was not good. But I thought I would try it again to see if it had improved and unfortunately it hasn't. It seems to have gotten worse. The egg rolls are greasy, the Singapore rice noodles are just spicy hot and lack flavor. The duck sauce that they provide with the egg rolls tastes like it's been watered down, the mustard sauce tastes like chemicals. What a waste of money. read more

Love their General Tso's chicken and my daughter loves the chicken lo mein. Don't let the small restaurant fool you, they have big tastes inside. I would recommend Sampan any day of the week. You have always been my go-to for Chinese food, but today your service and delivery time was RIDICULOUS! I was told an hour, OK, these days that is kind of normal, but an hour and a half when I live less than 2 miles from your location....NOT ACCEPTABLE! We had high hopes for Sampan based on the reviews, we ordered the general tso's chicken, fried rice, spicy Szechuan style string beans, and vegetable lomein. Unfortunately, everything was super disappointing. The chicken was either waaaay over cooked or reused from the day before, it was super tough and dry. The rice also didn't taste or look fresh at all and had zero flavor. The lomein wasn't bad but the vegetables in it were barely cooked so they were basically raw. The string beans were okay, I was just confused because they just didn't have any flavor which surprised me considering they were mixed with onions and a "spicy" Szechuan sauce. Overall, it was a super disappointing experience and I wouldn't recommend ordering from here. Save yourself the grief and order from Chiyoshi. read more

I'm sad to report that Sampan has been going downhill. They have cut back their hours, cut their menu by probably half, raised prices, reduced portion sizes and now their lunch specials no longer come with an egg roll or soup but the price is the same. They have been my go to spot for the better part of 20 years but I'm going to have to find someplace new since they have stop making some of my favorite dishes. No more Sweet and Sour except for Chicken, no more Moo Shi, no more Crispy Sesame Beef. read more

Samoan use to be good years ago If I if they got different owners now or what but there food is old stale food. Order the combo, egg foo young and an order of soup also the almond cookies. All of it was stale!! I ended throwing it all in the trash. I spent almost $20.00 for me and my son and it all went into the trash. I don't want to get food poisoning and possible dying. I ordered the following meals today and was very disappointed: General Tso's Chicken combo, w/Chicken Fried Rice, Spring Roll: This was the best of all that I received. I would get this again. The chicken had just the right amount of sauce, crispiness and flavor. They had the best fried rice I have ever eaten, it was light, fluffy and flavorful Sweet & Sour Pork combo, w/Chicken Fried Rice, Egg Drop Soup: I was not real happy with this. The breading on the pork was extra thick and very hard. Curry Beef: This has got to be the worst curry beef I have ever eaten. The sauce was over-thickened and extremely salty. I dumped the entire order in the trash for a loss of $10.95. Pu-Pu Platter (For 2): There menu does not state what comes in the platter; it is fried chicken wings (very greasy but ok), beef on a stick (tender and flavorful), egg rolls (the biggest egg rolls I have ever seen and the wrap is not tough like some), shrimp toast (it was shrimp mush and was quite unappealing), and some kind of fried wanton that was rock hard. They need to identify the contents of their platter because I am used to ones containing ribs and crab rangoon in place of the fried wanton and shrimp toast. Sampan in Dale City is the ONLY place we ever order Chinese food from in the area. We have tried a couple other places, but either they are not good, or the roaches falling out of the menu just turned us off. So, Sampan is a carry-out only place. The food is ALWAYS very tasty. We only order carry-out and have never used their delivery. Carry-out orders are always ready within 10 to 15 minutes. The workers are always nice and I am in and out in under a minute. read more

I would give this place four stars, but the prices drop them down to 3. I wouldn't characterize the staff as rude. Curt is a bit more descriptive, but I don't go there to make friends. The food is quite tasty. The Sampan chicken is fantastic. The spring rolls are great, but there is something about their duck sauce that just isn't quite right. It's worth a try, and the food is consistent and tasty if you don't mind paying a couple bucks more than you probably should. read more

This is THE best Chinese Food I have had since I moved to PWC about six years ago. When I moved here I was sad to leave my favorite Chinese place back home in Michigan, (Best Chinese food I have had in my entire life). I have tried almost every Chinese restaurant in the Woodbridge/Montclair area and Sampan is the best. My favorite is the General Tso's chicken. This actually taste like what General Tso's should taste like, more hint of spice than sweet. Other Chinese restaurants around here make it way too sweet. Sampan gives you the option to make it as spicy as you want, so for me that means extra spicy. The fried rice is great along with the egg rolls. Crab Rangoon is hard to compare(Again, hometown Chinese place wins on that one). Other than that the lunch/dinner special portions are huge. You get your choice of entree, choice of rice, egg roll, hot and sour soup, or egg drop soup all under $10. The prices are decent and service is always prompt and courteous. I highly recommend Sampan to anybody who is looking for tasty, and affordable Chinese in the Woodbridge area. They also have an option to order your meal online.
