The best I can say is that these are better than grocery store bagged or frozen bagels. Beyond that these are mediocre mass-produced chain-store bagels. The dough is produced elsewhere and get the final cooking at each location. . The quality is fair, though at times some bagels are slightly undercooked and the inside gummy. They often run out of popular selections. There is better coffee elsewhere in the neighborhood. The small shop is often crowded. And the service is not particularly warm or friendly. BTW - the cranky older white woman is not the owner. the cranky asian woman is. . Saving grace for this Sam's Bagel location is there are few other choices for quick or takeout bagels in the Federal Hill area. You don't have to go to NYC to get better bagels. Very large selection on the menu and good variety of bagels but no go on an egg and bagel sandwich. Microwaved eggs and crappy tomatoes. Seems okay for a quick breakfast if you just want something plane and simple, but not weekend hangover food. Unfortunately THB in canton was closed on New Year's Day. We checked out this place on a Saturday at around 9:30AM and it was super busy; however, it didn't take us long to have our order put in and to get our food. My fiance and I both ordered the Cheese bagel with egg, bacon and cheese as well as a small ice coffee. The bagel was really good and ended up last us both until dinner time because of how filling the meal was. Our bagel was toasted and as mentioned in some of the other reviews, the consistency and texture of the eggs were just not as good as they could be which is the reasoning for not giving a 5 star review. We were able to eat the food there, which may be the better idea for trying to get the best tasting given that the bagel will probably harden by the time you walk back home. Also, the iced coffee was strong and good, similar to a local coffee place and the shop offered plenty of additives to help with reducing the strength. Overall, we enjoyed the food here and would recommend based on our experience. read more

The bagels are consistently good at this bagel shop. I like the whole wheat with hummus or peanut butter. The store is small, but the atmosphere is friendly so it makes getting breakfast here feel cozy. The only thing is that they get really crowded in the morning so it can take a little while to get your bagel if you are in a rush. read more

Sam's is a relatively new bagel place but the location is difficult to find and the staff moves slow. The prices are reasonable but chances that this place survives more then a year is unlikely. First they need to get the girl who takes the orders to learn how to multi task and actually move with speed. Lastly, I have never see a bagel place that has one bagel of certain kinds early in the morning and is out or not able to offer more then one of particular types. THIS IS SUCH A STAPLE HERE IN FED HILL FOR ME. They always have a huge selection of bagels, and cream cheese, I always get the powerhouse wrap on an everything bagel and add veggie cream cheese. A perfect place for a quick morning bite. read more

The bagels were doughy and apparently day old, and not the ones I ordered (does "sesame" sound like "chocolate chip"? Plus, as I left with my plastic bag of crappy bagels, they ran after me and yelled across the street that my card didn't work... Then after running the card for an order costing $10 more than mine they realized it wasn't my card that hadn't worked. Awkward, time consuming, and not at all worth it for a bunch of stale bagels. Wow. These reviews are terrible. And horribly inaccurate. There are so many bagel flavors here and the bagels are delicious. One I am particularly fond of is the 'sunflower crunch'. Wasn't sure what it was the first time I tried it, but it's like an everything bagel (which they have in both white and wheat!) with a happy twist (to me and I love it). The staff (perhaps the 3-4 same people each time I've been-but not all at the same time) are friendly and do not rush you like I have seen other reviews say. And I'm confused because I have seen 5,6,&7 dollars as the credit card minimum on reviews and there's no way Sam's bagels is switching up the minimum for different people. I've never had a problem with it, and what do you expect from a small business? Support local, people! If you don't understand that concept, go ahead and go to Towson Hot Bagels: which is definitely nowhere near as good. They have a well-stocked assorted drink fridge, as well as yogurts, fruit, & other snacks to-go. If your bill is too low for the minimum there are plenty of things to get you up there! There's just something about Sam's bagels that, to me, definitely conveys quality and authenticity. They have a wide array of veggies for the orders of more than just your toasted bagel and schmear, and the lox is great and comes in generous servings as well (Key to the lox bagel sandwich). Also, that photo someone posted of their sausage egg and cheese bagel looked like real sausage and egg to me so maybe their glasses were foggy that day. Go to Sam's!! It's awesome! I wish I could say Sam's Bagels was quick and convenient, if not a tad lacking in taste. However, the service is not the quickest, particularly for a one-stop bagel shop as this. The bagels are pretty good - probably one of the best places for genuine thick New York style bagels in Federal Hill. However, beyond the bagels, Sam's is pretty lackluster. The eggs on their breakfast sandwiches taste like they are straight from a microwave, and the cheese tastes like Kraft singles. The iced coffee is pretty tasty, and you can get free refills. However, there's not much sitting room, so you will likely not stay long enough to take advantage of the refill. The tables outside are a nice place to sit in warm weather, but the seating is pretty limited, so you usually end up sharing a table with random people - however, a good way to meet new people .... Or play with the passing dogs walking by! Overall, a good place for a simple bagel and schmear, but don't go looking for much else beyond that. read more

FOOD great. SERVICE varies by person. DECOR terrible. I have been going here for 20 years. If you get Joe (african-american cook) you are going to get an GREAT bagel, the best in town by far. My fav is double toasted everything. Kathy the lady at the register can be a bit terse and short-tempered, but she is actually very nice. The owner doesn't speak much english, also nice. Issue, it needs a renovation desperately. Floors need to be redone, all that handwritten stuff needs to come off the walls, and the chairs are very uncomfortable. The music is horrible, supposed to be up lifting, OMG. A more modern, bright, clean, much less cluttered space with decent music is desperately needed. read more

They get zero stars from me. I have been buying breakfast from them pretty frequently for three years. I clearly ordered a blt on a veggie bagel. I then asked to have mayo put on it after they made the sandwich. They were visibly annoyed. So I walk to my office and find that they misheard me and I ended up with a bacon egg and cheese bagel... with mayo. Absolutely disgusting. The service here is good and everyone that works here is very friendly and nice. However, the bagels just arent that good. For breakfast sandwiches, they microwave the egg, which is one of my biggest pet peeves. The food is also VERY overpriced, in my opinion. $7 for a bagel with cream cheese/tomato and an iced coffee. The coffee options are pretty good and the cream cheeses are good, but this just is not a great place. Recommendation - try the jalapeno cheddar bagel or the crunchy sunflower. After reading reviews, my only thought is Sam's Bagels may have had some problems early on as my visit today was great. Tuna with lots of veggies on a toasted everything bagel was just as I expected and more. Much to my delight, the "everything" actually stayed on the everything bagel and didn't end up falling off onto the plate. A great sandwich. A great bagel. I am a fan. read more
