You have have a couple responsibilities if you want to sell bagels: 1) you should not burn the bagels 2) you should hire people who can properly shape the bagels Unfortunately, Sam's has struggled to do these two things throughout its history on Montana Avenue, and as of late, pretty much every bagel with onion or garlic on it has those pieces charred and almost every bagel is very irregular, more like a horseshoe than a circle (with a disparity in thickness between one side and another). While Sam's is a better choice than H+H (which sells bagels loaded with sugar - blechhh!), we really need a good bagel option on Montana Avenue as Sam's just isn't cutting it. read more

This little bagel shop is certainly big on flavor and their bagels are very fresh. I liked that there were a few tables outside because I was not planning of getting a to go order to eat elsewhere. The service was good as they had the right personalities to keep the line moving. I ordered a small whitefish salad and a mini bagel which there was enough in the container for two bagels. My husband ordered a toasted everything bagel with egg, cheese, and a sausage patty. It was also a very good portion size, all served fresh and hot. read more

Wow, this is an amazing Bagel spot walked in and immediately the vibes were there, first off when you enter the smell of fresh bagels, hits your face, And all of the staff there are very friendly they helped me choose the best bagel that there is, and in my opinion, I think it's the breakfast bagel, the warm, toasty bacon, the warm Bagel, and the hot and fluffy eggs! Sam's is a low-frills bagel shop with a simple menu and quick service. There is very limited seating inside, so it's probably best to plan to take your order to-go. The bagels are fresh and a hearty size, and they come in 10-ish flavors. There are a few different cream cheese options to choose from, plus a lox sandwich option and a peanut butter and jam option. Not the best bagel ever (maybe that the NYC bagel snob in me coming out), but still good, and quick service makes it worth a stop. read more

Yea.. it's a no for me. This place is extremely dirty and unkempt. Finger prints everywhere. Some bagels on parchment paper, others raw dogging the crate. Wrong labels on bagels. Some had no labels at all, just have to guess or ask the guy working there but he barely knows either. There was no label on what looked like an everything bagel (right next to cheese bagels- also no label) when I asked the guy, he said "yea I think so.. maybe." I discovered Sam's bagels quite by accident while walking down Montana. The staff is so friendly and the bagels are amazing. You can sit inside in a few little tables they have and enjoy any of the bagels or bagel sandwiches. Bagels are crispy and just the right amount of chewiness inside. Small and nondescript, this place lets its food speak for itself. I had a full lox sandwich which was full of lox and cream cheese with incredibly fresh ingredients to accompany. It was the right balance of crisp, flavor, and mess to satisfy a late morning meal. read more

AH! The best bagels at least in the area. I have had my share of bagels, and these are the best. However, I am only giving 4 stars, because I do not like the fact that their kitchen is close and I do not see what's happening behind the doors. In a small shops like this, I'd like a bit more transparency. Hence, 4 stars instead of 5. If this does not bother you, then hands-down the best place. read more

Usually it's pretty good but I only asked for two modifications, NO tomatoes and add bacon (which I paid an extra 4 dollars for). They put what seems like extra tomatoes and NO bacon. Would still recommend but the owners needs to get their shit together. read more

Quick, easy, no nonsense stop to grab a bagel. Their bagels always taste fresh and they have a decent beverage selection as well. While the Lox sandwich at Sam's isn't the best lox sandwich I've ever had, they do serve consistently good sandwiches. They typically have no line and you get your order in minutes. There is also a small seating area inside, and on the sidewalk outside if you want to sit down to munch. Sam's Bagels has definitely been a nice addition to Montana Ave. read more

Nice local bagel place. I got a mini-bagels and brought it home. After a toast in the toaster, it was chewy and delicious when paired with greek yogurt and lox. I haven't tried their other bagels, but they were much larger than the mini-bagel. read more

Very reasonable prices, quick service. I'm giving them only 3 stars because bagel itself wasn't tasty or very fresh. It was a bit hard to chew on. I got a plain bagel with cream cheese and my husband ordered a plain bagel with egg and cheese. We also bought two extra bagels to snack on while we wait for our food to be ready. They are open for indoor dining and takeout. This place gets busy, you can tell it's very popular in the area. Great customer service with one employee running the cashier. Place is always sold out of sesame bagels for 1. The only reason I have ever gone here a handful of times now is bc I live close by but it is easily the worst bagel in Santa Monica and maybe anywhere. The bagels are such low quality it is impressive. They toast it with what tastes like a microwave. It's got that same consistency. It's also a ripoff. The staff are also terrible The place is also the size of a broom closet. If you want a good bagel drive to Brentwood, go to pops bagels. It is far and away the best I've tried them all. read more

We love our Saturday morning bagels. We like to try as many places as we can, and we keep returning to Sam's. It's nothing fancy or revolutionary, it's a reliable, everyday, down-home, quality bagel. And actually, even with all the fancy places, it's still my man's favorite lox sandwich. I was really excited to try this. I heard that their bagels are reminiscent of real New York bagels. I got their lox and cream cheese bagel sandwich with an everything bagel. Maybe I should have just gotten a classic BEC (bacon-egg-and cheese) like what I'd get from a NYC bodega. Instead, I wanted to try the lox. I was very sad to see that the bagel half on top of my bagel was falling apart! Maybe they sliced it too thinly? I did appreciate that the bagel had a lot of onion bits! That's one of my favorite parts of an everything bagel. However, the sandwich part itself was kind of a disappointment. It was falling apart and soggy by the time I got to the second half of the sandwich. The sandwich itself tasted kind of bland...one-note. I did see that they had capers in the sandwich based on how many capers were falling out of the sandwich, but I couldn't *taste* the capers. I did get a couple bagels to go, so hopefully the bagels themselves are a better experience than the lox sandwich. read more

Bagels are great and really affordable. Nice selection of bagels, and breakfast egg sandwiches. They even have mini bagels too. The ordering/pickup process could be improved. The orders are written down on post-it notes and they call out your order when it's ready. It's a little confusing because so many people order similar items. If they gathered customers names or gave an order # - I think it would be less chaotic. It doesn't stop me from coming here though because the bagels always hit the spot. read more

What happens when French Toast and a bagel get married?…read more They move to Mar Vista, have a beautiful carb-filled ceremony, and produce an offspring known as the French Toast Bagel at New York Bagel Deli. I recently stopped by New York Bagel Deli (NYBD) to meet this culinary love child for myself. The French Toast Bagel manages to be both chewy and crunchy, no small feat in the competitive world of breakfast carbohydrates. Dense and satisfying, it delivers genuine French toast flavor with plenty of cinnamon in every bite. I'll admit that sweet bagels are not usually my jam. I generally lean toward savory bagels topped with cream cheese, lox, eggs, or whatever else can be piled on top without requiring a fork. But the French Toast Bagel challenged my long-held beliefs. Served with salted butter and just a tiny dip of maple syrup, it struck a balance that made me reconsider my position in the Great Sweet vs. Savory Bagel Debate. The salty butter tempered the sweetness perfectly, and the maple syrup added just enough breakfast nostalgia without pushing it into dessert territory. In other words, I liked it. A lot. I would definitely recommend it. Since one pastry experiment is never enough, I also tried the chocolate chip rugelach and the raisin rugelach. If you've never had rugelach, it's a traditional Jewish pastry made from a rich, buttery dough rolled around sweet fillings and baked into tender crescents. Think of it as the pastry equivalent of comfort food Before heading out, I ordered three bagels to go from NYBD's extensive bagel menu: onion, cheese, and everything. Unfortunately, the everything bagel apparently had other plans. Somewhere between the counter and my bag, it was replaced by a sesame bagel. Fortunately, I like sesame, so no emergency meeting was required. I'll just have to return another day and finally meet the elusive everything bagel. The cream cheese selection alone is enough to keep indecisive customers occupied for several minutes. Choices include Plain, Lox, Tofu, Tijuana Hot, Garlic, Scallion, and Veggie. Breakfast sandwiches include eggs served on a bagel with your choice of ham, bacon, sausage, pastrami, roast beef, or turkey. Lunch offerings cover deli classics such as smoked salmon, deli meats, tuna salad, chicken salad, and whitefish. There are also hearty specialty sandwiches including a Reuben, The Beast Roast Beef, and several other overstuffed creations. Sandwiches come with chips or a side salad and, naturally, a pickle slice. Peerless coffee is brewed throughout the day, and the beverage menu also includes lattes, iced blended drinks, tea, and hot chocolate. There are a few tables where you can eat on the outdoor patio, but during my visit I noticed that most customers were grabbing orders to go. Apparently when great bagels call, people answer quickly.

I've visited a few times now, and the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese breakfast bagel on a Jalapeño Cheddar bagel is fantastic. It's absolutely packed with jalapeños and loaded with cheese--it really hits the spot. The bagel itself is the star of the show: perfectly toasted, dense, and satisfyingly chewy yet soft. The eggs are cooked well, and the bacon is always perfectly crispy. On my second visit, I tried the Garlic and Onion bagel, which was also excellent. I've sampled a variety of their options, including salt, egg, and everything bagels, and every single one has been consistent in quality.I also picked up some bagels to-go for my son. Although he wasn't feeling well enough to eat them, my co-workers were more than happy to enjoy them instead! The team was friendly & efficientcient which always feels good! I appreciated being welcomed in a new establishment. Looking forward to splurging & enjoying next time!

The pizza dough is actually really well prepped, easily as good as Pizzeria Sei, which is the best pizza place in LA, period. But again, it just lacks flavor. Also, as a small side note, there is a 4% employee health insurance surcharge added to the final bill. I probably just missed it listed on the menu somewhere, but oh well. Overall, it is a decent place, but I would not go out of my way to come back here.

For a 1/4 lb of Hawaiian poke, it was about $9.50. Whats also strange is that I grabbed my soup (did not pay for it in the back), and my Hawaiian poke and then paid up front. Everything came close to $20. I sat in my car, (which thank goodness, this seafood market has its own parking lot, so that was greatly appreciated), and dug into my soup. Unfortunately, the soup was pretty bland and needed a bit more salt. But, I will say that the ingredients used in the fish chowder were all very fresh, and fish wasnt overcooked, but it needed to be seasoned more. Hawaiian poke was great, excellent taste. Overall, a so so experience, I would have liked better scenery to eat my food being I was very close to the beach and wished I had a more seasoned fish chowder. I could be convinced to come back and give it a second try, but I think I might prefer to visit Malibu Seafood which isnt too far from here and has great ocean views.
