Was once the greatest--how is it now? Back then there was no Costco. This place is similar to Costco and hence the comparison---set up is eerily similar as well ---walk in and there's electronics. Go to back left--or the counterclockwise direction and there's stuff then bakery and fruits and d meats etc etc---to me just like Costco. Both places even have a dining area with 1 low priced item to attract you to eat while there. And there's an auto area for tires. It seems not as well lit as Costco. Here are my conclusions---if the stuff you want is more readily available and at a better price at 1 place then that's your go to. If not then it's how you feel. That said, my vibe is that at Costco things move better and you feel like your waiting is minimal (except automotive). At Sam's, I have never dealt with automotive but it seems like checking out is more difficult than Costco and I have not eaten at Sams----always see a line and people waiting so I decide not to wait. Also, in my case, I noticed that there are items for sale at Costco--multiple Asian noodle/soup offerings--which I have only seen 1 at Sam's--overall, I think if you like SAMs then go there--if you like Costco then go there---if you have time then go to both. 6:40 PM on a Saturday, and we are told we can't order a whole pizza, and we're limited to only 3 slices due to it being only one person making pizzas in the back. Long time customer, and for years we've been a Sam's Club member. However, today's experience at this location had me flabbergasted...speechless...and maybe a few expletives too. This location has gone down hill since the location over cortana mall closed suddenly. There have been occasions where we came on a slow afternoon and they stopped making pizzas or it was 5 pm and they were closed. Wtf? Not only has the food court gone downhill, but the store overall has gone downhill. Recently, they got rid of the photo center and moved the customer service to that spot. Now, if there is a long line, it blocks the entrance! Someone didn't think that through. I almost would rather do my bulk shopping solely at Costco from now on...which we may actually do after this membership expires. I felt unjustly accused of theft when all I wanted to do was exit without showing my receipt due to their severe understaffing and excessively long lines. It was illogical to wait in a never-ending queue at the exit for just two items, especially with only one person managing the process. Moreover, their security guard approached me aggressively, insinuating wrongdoing on my part. I showed the security my receipt indicating proof of purchase however she was upset that I cut in line. Definitely a seemingly shady part of town. None of the employees were too happy to help me when I needed help. I was totally out of state and I understand that most Sam's and Walmarts are generally the same, however, I was totally displaced at this particular location. It was one of those Sam's Clubs that you feel that people were just there simply for the paycheck and were not too happy at their actual job. That's neither here nor there personally however the vibe that came off was very distasteful for the customer that I was that day. Other than that the Sam's Club definitely has everything you want with a hint of Louisiana flare. They have plenty of Mardi Gras masks and masquerade masks including LSU geaux Tigers wear! Plenty of produce and wine to go around and fulfill our tummies that we took back to the house. The food at the food bar they have was okay but the pizza was very old and greasy. We'll let the grease slide, but the old.... not so much. Just have a list ready of items you want to buy at this Sam's Club and get in and out. Sam's club at Baton Rouge, LA. The store is okay. The food counter/deli/pizza place is such a low standard, and should not have business! Another post shared their experience about a 6:40 pm Saturday visit, and they were told no whole pizza would be made or sold. My experience was opposite. We went there at 6:40pm Thursday - for the first time to buy food there - we were told they could do whole pizza. The white guy in his 40/50s was inept at his job. After 10 minutes wait, he said the oven hadnt been turned on. I said did you just start cooking it? I wanted to make sure he's doing the job this time. He didn't apologize or anything, just said wait for a few more minutes it'd be ready. After another 10 minutes, the same issue happened. Then they said they could refund me. I said what about my time? I said that because I was so appalled that no one apologized or felt sorry - I had a 5 yo who'd been waiting with me. Then the manager was asked to intervene. He explained, as if that would justify. They just wanted their fault to be paid off by their customers. If the reason for their indifference/ not caring was because they couldn't make profits and didn't get paid much, they should move to do some other busInes. That'd be good for everyone. read more

I've shopped at dozens of Sam's Club locations in my life and this remains the only location that truly appalled me. This store consistently delivers well below the expected standard for this brand, and I was stuck shopping here for almost a year. They consistently sell out of staples (several times they didn't have eggs... a Sam's without eggs...) There are live bugs regularly on and around the sweet potatoes. For the first six times we shopped here we tried to buy a hot dog at the deli. Every single time they tried to tell us they had run out and it would be ten to fifteen minutes. It took two interactions with the manager before this got resolved. The staff universally do not care. The entire store culture is absolutely wretched and it shows. I used to love placing orders to pick up at the store. I can't do that here because it will take you longer to pick up your order than it would be to shop for it yourself. Both times I tried to do that here, they took forever to bring me the order, both times the order had missing items, and one time one of the items was filed opened and sitting at the top of the cart. All these problems are the fault of the management. If they cared about this store, the employees would. I'm so happy to be moving away. Good riddance! read more

She proceeded to go check the price of the item and saw exactly what I saw. She called over the COS, jasmine, to get a 2nd voice about a price override. Ms. Jasmine, in the most unfriendliest way, walked over. She never acknowledged me, she did ask for the item, scanned it, and told me the price it rung up for. My go to store for buying in bulk! Well, tied with another chain store in Baton Rouge... But this is the original :-) I really appreciate how they offer free Wi-Fi service now within their club to make searching for things easy. So many products are found on the end caps that you can get lost if you do not have a guide. They also now have an app where you can actually scan and check out yourself! It is amazing. Scan, pay, show the door attendant your digital receipt and get on your way. It is absolutely the best way to go. With my business plus account I actually get to go shopping several hours before the club opens to the main public and I get cashback on all of my purchases, including fuel. We no longer live around the corner from this location, but all of these extra perks keep me coming back. I've been a Sam's Club member for almost a year now and have visited this location many times. I'm not 100% thrilled with it but it has its pros. I do love the value for your money and the cafe area. It has super cheap and absolutely delicious food. My sons love the pizza especially. All of Sam's has really high quality products. The seasonal stuff always catches my eye. What I don't love is there is no sense of consistency with the selection of products. Maybe it's due to supply chain issues, I don't know but sometimes they carry things and sometimes they don't. Specifically the CORE water cases. I always buy a few cases at a time and when I come back in a week or so there's not even a spot for them. Also the lines, even self checkout are always ridiculous. The Tire and Battery center is very poorly managed. They treat customers with disrespect and actually do not want to work. I had 4 new tires installed about a month ago. I had purchased the Road Hazard insurance on them. One of tires got a nail about 11 days ago. I went to the store for them to fix it. They told me that it is not fixable and that they had to order a new onFive days later I went to the store around 4 pm. They told me the tire was received. They tried to locate it but could not find it!! I looked for it myself for an hour and could not find it. I tried again the next morning but same thing happened. I asked the man at the desk to order another one which he did. Today I went to the store and found the tire but the tire shop was closed for lack of technicians except for one!!! The Tire Manager was there and was very rude and did not want to work. She told me that they will not prorate the tire without knowing what the issue with it was!! I told her that I read the conditions on the insurance and that it is covered and that the person who originally ordered the tire said that she would prorate it. She told me to see that person when she comes back in a FEW DAYS!! I asked her to look at the tire herself and she refused. My family and I have had a membership to Sam's Club for over 10 years. And I will continue to have a membership because I just prefer Sam's over Costco for multiple reasons. BUT THIS LOCATION IS LACKING! I have gone to this location for specific items 4x and each time, they are completely out, do not have anyone on duty to bring down another crate, or I have to wait 45 minutes for it (for example: Dasani water..Really?). I just feel like this location needs more inventory management. I do, however, appreciate the associates that have checked on me and sincerely taken the time to try to help. And the associates that have to gather carts in the heat and cold, yet still offer to put my items in the car for me. Thank you for that. read more

I come to this Sam's Club all the time for lunch. For $2.71 you can get 2 slices of pizza and a refilable drink! That's amazing. The pizza is great and then I cruise around for some sample action. As far as the store goes, it's the same as any other Sam's. It's clean, the employees are underpaid, so they won't go out of their way to help you, but they're not mean. My best purchase recently was a beef tenderloin roast. It was wrapped up like a pork tenderloin with twine and was about 2 lbs. Coming in at $15, it was a great deal. I seasoned it and put it on the rotisserie and that was pure goodness, my friend. I haven't seen that cut since, but if you see it, scoop it up. Very tender, and you can roast it or cook on a spit. As a matter of fact, if you DO see it...message me and I'll run over to get one for myself. You can come by and we'll have an old fashioned Yelper Friend Cookout. :) OH, one more thing. They have a weird policy for credit cards. If I remember correctly, they only accept Visa DEBIT cards. If your Visa is credit, it won't go through. My boss owns a convenience store and spends at least $5000.00 ever two weeks or so at Sam's Club.He asked me to ride with him to buy cheese and nachos.. when I walked out the door ( after being checked twice) Some men followed me out , screaming at me ( a women) that I stole their Stuff. One man tried to take my cart in front of employees.. I told him with receipt in hand to take his hands off my cart and handed my receipt to an employee who couldn't read it.. This went on for 15 mins before other employees and my Boss come & took my cart and receipt back inside to check me again. Yesterday was the one-day Sam's sale. The store boasted opening at 7 a.m. for Plus Members. Great! I'm a plus member. So at about 6:15 a.m. I braved the cold weather and drove 40 miles to Sam's in Baton Rouge. Upon arrival my friend mentioned that the parking lot was way too full and she questioned if everyone inside was actually a plus member. Well after walking into the store with a greeter on her cell phone absolutely NOT checking for Sam's cards, I started to also question if this early opening designed to be "special" had been watered down. I came in to buy a new cell phone and take advantage of the gift card promotion which was attached. I stood in line with at least a good 70 people for over an HOUR just to...MAKE AN APPOINTMENT to get a cell phone...TOMORROW! Ok. Cool. I need a new phone so I'll take the Sunday 12:30-we-dont-care-if-you-have-church-or-not appointment. Guess what?! I arrived as the timely person I am at 12:23 p.m. To my dismay, there was a line again in the cell phone area. But, I thought- This has nothing to do with me because I have an appointment. Ha!! So did the other approximately 6 customers waiting with turned down mouths and crunched up eyebrows. The disappointment was strongly felt. The ONEEEEE Worker belted out a scripted preface as soon as I walked up- I'm by myself working so it'll be awhile. *What's "awhile"?* I then asked her- So are we not doing appointments on time? To which she replied- We're doing them. I'm just by myself. *that's not at all what I asked*. No. Have I ever liked shopping here? Yes, before the other competing warehouse store came to town. Let me start by talking about the gas station - completely unorganized! There is no rhyme or reason with this gas station - you can enter and leave from any which way you please - that results in chaos. The service is less than mediocre. People are not always willing to help you and the quality of the products is sub-par in my book. It's so annoying to have a product disappear after I have been buying it for a year or so. Lack of consistency at this store is extremely common. Specific staff members have always been hard to reach, when calling. The one thing I could say I remember vividly that I actually appreciated was that when I had a cart full of larger items, they would not make me take it of the cart and would just scan everything in the cart. Let's not forget the cooked food at their food stand... no more free water, pizza has gotten skimpy and not a lot of other exciting choices from there. I was a member at Sam's Club in Baton Rouge for years before Costco opened. The only thing that i noticed that Sam's club beat over Costco was that they carried the white thank you t-shirt bags at a significant discount than what could be purchased online and unfortunately Costco did not carry that item until years later after it opened. The reason why I have given it two stars instead of one is for the reason that I would be a member of a Sam's Club if Costco was not within a reasonable driving distance near by. That's it! I was a member of Costco when I lived in the San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles and again when I lived in Honolulu for a short period of time. I remember going into the Sam's Club in Honolulu and noticing it was like a Costco but worse. So when we eventually moved to Baton Rouge and realized in was Sam's Club or no big box membership store at all we decided to become a member, but in almost all categories Costco has them beat. If you are not a member of either Sam's or Costco, just check out the respective stores gas station situation and you can clearly see Costco has them beat for efficiency, neatness, order and all around comfortability. Then check out the parking situation at both stores and compare. As you should be able to see from the inside Costco has them beat, but it may be advantageous to get a Sam's Club membership if you just live around the corner from them and you don't like to drive. read more

I don't feel that I've ever had a good trip here. I dislike the Walmart corporation in general and this place is no exception. They don't have a great selection, it seems dark and unclean, and no one seems happy or friendly or like they've had any training in customer service at all. There are never enough lanes open for checkout. I know it's a "warehouse" but we checked out Costco the day after going to Sam's, and it was ten times better, at least in terms of layout and lighting (I guess you can't compare a just opened store where everyone is on their best behavior, but other things come into play). If we didn't have a card to Sam's through a family members membership, we would never go there, and rarely go at this point, anyway. read more
