These are some of the friendliest, most competent baristas I've encountered. They know the food and drinks, and can design the drinks around personal preference. They are also personable and kind. Very cute coffee shop, nice ambiance, good food and coffee. I would give it 4 stars but I just couldn't with how 1 worker was absolutely rude. He is on the shorter side with a mustache, I believe one of the baristas. He brought my coffees outside and basically just set it on the table and walked away after I said thank you. No acknowledgment, no your welcome, just slammed it on the table and walked away. For being such a cute and quaint coffee place you would expect a more friendlier vibe from all the workers. Please teach him proper customer service or hire people who make people want to come back because of their friendly attitude. read more

I came for a gluten free sandwich because I have Celiac. They charged $6 for the gluten free bread, making my chicken pesto $18.xx!! To take advantage of a group of people who have either a disease or sensitivity that compromises their health is disgusting. Charging a few extra bucks because the bread is a little more expense is one thing - $6 for two slices is a whole other. The Sandwich - pretty good with the pesto and arugula. A bit skimpy on the turkey. The staff - incredibly friendly and thus the 3 stars for the lovely staff. The atmosphere -very cute and charming. read more

I love Sam's outdoor ambiance. It's one of those cafes that you can just sit there the whole day and relax and enjoy the outdoors while sipping on a great cup of coffee. We had lunch before coming to Sam's I was hoping to try some of their pastries and food but was too full. My first time in Calistoga and stayed in a resort across the way. I was look ok for a quick grab and go option to head back home and a 2 hour drive. I looked on DoorDash... not a single restaurant on their??? Let's go 2023 then? I was a little shocked no one offers order ahead on DoorDash. Okay, so we get there and it is SOOOOOO beautiful with the ambiance. And the food looked just okay in the glass, but once they toasted it, I couldn't eat it in the car, I had to sit down. I got the Turkey pesto and the roast beef mozzarella. They were out of the avocado toast. I ate the Turkey pesto so fast, I didn't get a photo of it. Good food hampered by little inconvenienced. Four stars for potential, minus one star for execution. I ordered three things: Iced white chocolate rose mocha, quiche (heated), and banana chocolate bread. Arrived 10 minutes after order was supposed to be ready--it wasn't. Coffee was not iced, quiche was cold in the middle, and there was no banana bread left so I was offered carrot walnut or any other pastry I wanted. The coffee and food were very good. So good that we had breakfast here 2 days in a row. Im not sure if it was a special item but the Nutella pastry we had here was like a flaky morning bun with the Nutella spread in between the rolls. Soooo addicting! I also really enjoyed the everything ricotta spinach quiche. read more

We stayed the night in Calistoga and stopped in for a quick to-go breakfast pit stop, after a suggestion from the hotel. What a quaint location!! I ordered a spinach quiche that has everything but the bagel seasoning on the crust edges, and OH MY it was beyond delicious!! I gobbled it up way to fast, crumbs all over my shirt in the car & wish we would of ordered 2 ! I also had an iced americano, the coffee was delicious, smooth & not acidic whatsoever, which means I am 100% won over! Next time I am in town, I would definitely like to order a meal & linger in the cute patio area or by the fireplace inside, with a glass of wine. I love this place! When places started opening up after the winter COVID surge, I found myself here several weekends in a row with my toddler in tow, stopping in for some treats before strolling to the park. We hadn't dined out in awhile and Sam's was a perfect place to start. Their chai is one of the better ones around the Napa Valley, and their selection of savory pastries (for me) and decadent ones (for him) are ample and delicious. The outdoor sitting area is lovely with its comfortable Adirondack chairs and greenery. I could see Sam's as a great pre-wine tasting spot to load up on breakfast and fuel, but is also perfect for a leisurely morning. read more

A delicious assortment of "bites" and breakfast goodies at this off the "main street" bakery and inn founded 1859 by Sam Brannan to compete with Saratoga Springs, NY. There is some inside seating where a few people were set up with laptops for a working morning, a fire pit on one side (probably guests of the inn only), and a set of tables, chairs, and two-seater garden seats accessible from the exit of the country store. We savored the homemade Nutella banana bread with a firm, dark brown crust balanced with a spongy blended bread interior. How do they do that?? Then frittatas of tomato and spinach that were light and eggy and adequately filling. The chai were too sweet for our liking; the vanilla heavily syrup-ed, so I'd ask about how many pumps next time. The regular chai was more traditional yet on the sweet side. The bottled homemade lemonade was refreshing. When we left, the bake case had been stocked with some homemade treats that I'd certainly try next time I'm in town. read more

Promising and I'll go back, but ugh. Stale kouign aman. One tyrannical to go order person was literally undoing the work of her coworkers, so my quiche went in the oven (good job, cashier), got taken out by to go tyrant, and then forgotten because they don't seem to have a ticket system to track incomplete orders. Busser tried to sort my missing order, but apparently was ignored by to go tyrant. 20 minutes later I left with a cold quiche in hand, after 3 attempts to get it. Drip coffee isn't brewed with enough beans. Would probably be 5 star if I had ordered in advance; it sucks that they're ignoring the experience of in person folks, since it's such a beautiful historic home and garden. read more

This place was an awesome surprise. It was within walking distance of Dr. Wilk's and we went for breakfast each morning we stayed there. The property is in an old house and has really great style. Inside is counter order and they have a number of pastries as well as prepared breakfast options such as avocado toast and our personal favorite, small pastry cups with egg, spinach and everything bagel seasoning. Full coffee menu, everything from drip to macchiato to cappuccino was well made. Prices were quite fair and food was ready quickly. We enjoyed sitting outside while waiting and eating our items and even took some pastries to go for our drive back to SF. read more

On the way to our mud bath, I saw this cute building little did I know that I'd stop by after. Everything about this cafe is cute. I learned a little history about Sam Brannan from the sign in front and how this was one of his original cottages. I ordered lavender latte with almond milk. I loved that it wasn't too sweet like most cafes. Just hint of lavender. I wish they did latte art, because that would've been perfect. I also ordered the frittata, and it was also pretty good. I hope everything is high quality, because everything is definitely resort priced. I want to come back one of these days when I go back to Calistoga. I love the vibe here! We wanted a light bite and good coffee before heading to stroll through town. Sam's was a perfect stop. Our party of 3 ordered cappuccinos and iced mochas, all delicious. Two of us had the prosciutto and white cheddar quiche, and one had an everything bagel with cream cheese. The pastry of the quiche was delightful and egg filling nice and fluffy with great flavor. Love this place! They have great coffee and delish pastries. We stayed at Indian Springs very conveniently located across the street. They have a great outdoor area to relax and enjoy your treats. We tried the kouign amann with apricot and a cheese and bacon quiche. Both were great! Love that this is a historic site that everyone can visit and enjoy. We were excited to give this place a try. We've been on the hunt for a good coffee spot in Calistoga. We were here on a terribly rainy day and there were a good number of people still enjoying the porch outside. The space itself is rather quaint and charming. We order iced coffees and a bite, both of which were fine. Nothing exceptional. The service just wasn't great. Both individuals working seemed inconvenienced we were there and it took a very long time for two iced coffees and already made pastries. We'll wait until spring and give this spot another try and hope they figure it out. read more

Went here for the first time for lunch. Disappointed with the impolite staff. Ordered the Turkey pesto sandwich that comes with a chocolate chip cookie for $12.95. I saw them bag the sandwich without a cookie. I asked for the cookie, they responded by saying they are "all out" and "it was complimentary anyways". No offer to replace with anything. Disappointing. Don't go here. Update: I will say the owner did respond to this negative review promptly. He apologized for the above and issued me a refund for my sandwich. Sam's general store is a cute little boutique coffee shop in Calistoga that was easy to access via bicycle. Nice, shady place to sit outside for a morning coffee and pastry. The little store was thoughtfully curated and a closer look into the architectural and design details revealed som interesting old-school charm and history is built-in. Layers upon layers of different color paint on the walls and custom moldings on the windows and ceilings were quite intriguing to look at. my girlfriend ordered avocado toast on a bagel and I ordered an egg white frittata, both were pretty delicious! my one critique is the prices are quite high but I do think that the ambience makes up for it. As a newcomer to Napa I appreciated the fact that the garden was full of local people who seem to be meeting for their daily morning gab sessions. I ended up overhearing some great restaurant recommendations as well as a few inside tips from patrons sitting nearby. read more

I was there on 4th of July and I witnessed an employee being treated poorly by another employee. I was in line for ordering and they seemed to have issues with the ordering system. The person in front of me was nice enough to let me me order before her. She then was asked to help the staff in the café, and she nicely did. and she was asked to help with a bunch of other things. When the system was working again, she asked me if she could pay what she owed, to which I agreed. She took out some money and offered to pay what she owed but the girl at the register rudely told her "you can wait" as she signaled her to move aside in a rude demeanor. When we finished paying I approached her and asked her if she worked at the café, and she did work there, but it was her day off. I was surprised when she told me she was helping on her day off, not only that but I was more surprised at the way the cashier (Nicole, which is what I heard employees calling her)? treated her.
