My dad taught me to play billiards here, prior to it being 21+ ...he would've been proud of my game last night! I also tried the blackberry crown lemonade and I think I'm gonna go buy a bottle of it. It was so good! They had great music playing and staff was helpful :)

Beautiful pool tables . Upstairs and down . Fifteen , I counted . Maybe more . Place is dark and huge inside . House cue's available . Hourly rate is $5 to $6 for happy hour , $15 to $16 reg times . NO CHILDREN ALLOWED . They check ALL I.D. before you can proceed . Burgers , soups and salads , loaded fries , etc.....Typical pub grub . Very clean and well maintained . I'll have to come here more often and practice my game.

How have I not written a review of one of my go to billiard pubs in the heart of the Hollywood District? I have been a frequent customer for as long as I can remember. Even my Dad who grew up in the neighborhood was a regular at one point in his life. Sure people do come here to play pool and their HH is stellar, but they have quite a few large TV's and a great menu including dessert options! As soon as I walk in, I fill a cup of water at the self service station, sit down at a table, then order at the bar. If it's HH, I usually opt for the 2 bacon cheese sliders with fries as it usually fills me up with their generous portions. On Tuesday's, I will order a bowl of chili and top it with jalapeno slices for a nice heat kick. The staff knows most of the patrons that come and go and it definitely has a great neighborhood vibe.] I have had a birthday gathering here a few years ago and the staff took care of everyone in our group. I like to come here when it's just me and I want to get some reading done. It's also great for friend gatherings as well. They have specials once in a while and they are worth checking out if available. They do offer breakfast and again their portions are generous. One time, I brought my Dad and Uncle for lunch and they ordered the fish and chips. It was so huge when it arrived they could have easily shared one plate. When I volunteer on Sundays, customers will ask me where to eat and I usually send them over to Sam's. If you want to experience old school neighborhood vibes in Portland, Sam's is definitely where it's at!

This is maybe my 6th time here. The pool tables are in excellent shape. The pool cues all seem straight. The bartenders remember your drink order. The bathrooms are extremely well kept, like, maybe best bathroom in the the city! Excellent food options! Five fucking stars without a doubt! It is 4:00 on a Wednesday, so take that into consideration.

Where is the best Parking nearby?

There is only street parking normally. After banking hours. The US bank lot is across the street. Don't park in the lot next door, without paying. They ticket you.

Special shout out to the kitchen staff for big multitasking energy: watching the game, closing out the place, and firing out some amazing food. Wilder's near-close happy hour offerings were both tasty and generous. Cocktails featured offerings from local distillers that yielded complex flavors but nothing that was "trying too hard" to be artisanal. Also Made my date's night that they were using polenta as a bun.

We walked in at about 6:30pm on a Wednesday night and was kind of greeted by one of the servers. She wasn't too friendly and seemed to be irritated that we said we'd wait for a table as opposed to sitting at the bar. Once seated, that same server came over to try to take our orders and once again seemed irritated that we weren't ready to order. Luckily, another server took over from there and we had a pleasant anniversary meal the rest of the time! Here's everything we tried: Devilish Eggs - This came with 4 deviled eggs and was just okay. The crispy bacon pieces was the best part of this dish! Steak Tartare - This was the main reason we chose this restaurant and we were definitely not disappointed! We spent our first anniversary together in Europe and had so much tartare and this really brought back some wonderful memories for us. The tartare was rich and mustardy, beef flavor was great, and it sort of just melted in your mouth. The crispy chips paired well with the tartare and I can't wait to come back and have this again! Mussels - This was a big bowl of mussels in a white wine garlic sauce with toasted baguettes. Mussels tasted fresh and garlicky with just a bit of funk from whatever cheese they grated on top. The toasted baguettes were so good dipped into that white wine broth. I wish this dish came with skinny fries but it was also so good as is. Would definitely order this again! Field Greens - I asked for this to come out with my meal but it came out about 10 minutes before the entrees came out. It was very light and refreshing. I saved half to have with my meal but most of it was wilted already by the time our mains came out. But it's okay! The fried chicken actually had a small portion of this salad on its plate. I wouldn't have ordered this had I known, so next time will skip the side salad altogether! Fried chicken - I really wanted to like this dish but alas, fried chicken breast is very hard to make juicy. I definitely prefer dark meat because that's harder to mess up. My partner enjoyed it but he doesn't mind dry chicken. The sauces were phenomenal! That mustard sauce was great and the sweet glaze was delicious! The potatoes would have been a lot better if they were smaller to get more of that crust to creamy potato ratio but still okay the way it was. My fiance cleaned this plate up! Brown Butter Cake - This cake was phenomenal! It's hard to mess anything with Brown Butter up so I had really high expectations for this and they certainly did not disappoint. The server was nice enough to throw candles on it since we were celebrating and it really ended our meal on the sweetest note! The restaurant itself is small and cozy. A bit dark and romantic. It really reminded me of the small bistros in France that we frequented while we were out there. We'll definitely be back to try other things on the menu!

Biscuit itself was so soft and so tasty! Coated with amazing and drooling rosemary-mushroom gravy. The potato cakes itself were crispy and tasty with perfect amount of saltiness with a side of sour cream, even better with their homemade hot sauce! The chicken-apple sausage is my favorite... cooked to its charred and retained some juicy inside the sausage, very tasty with potato cakes and scrambled eggs cooked to its perfection. I can't even complain as I wiped the plate clean. Very filling for one big plate. The service was quick and very friendly... very accommodating to food dietary restrictions if needed and very attentive to the table. The vibes there were friendly and opening. On our first visit we had a reservation and were seated at a table. After ordering, patrons are served a complimentary leek soup in an espresso size cup. I wish it were on the menu because it is one of the best things I've ever tasted. The flavor is incredibly rich! We ordered the clam chowder, halibut, maple glazed carrots and tres leches cake. The clam chowder's presentation was nicely done but nothing special in taste. It came so highly recommended on Reddit and many other diners ordered it but neither my party nor I cared for it. The halibut was good but didn't stand out and the maple glazed carrots weren't to my taste. What completely won us over was the tres leches cake. It is one of the most delicious and most memorable desserts we've ever had. Every layer complemented the next perfectly creating an incredibly balanced dessert that wasn't overly sweet with different textures. We couldn't stop talking about it afterward. It was one of the reasons we decided to give the restaurant a second shot. After our meal I mentioned to our server that we weren't sure if we'd ordered the right dishes since we weren't thrilled with the food especially with how popular the restaurant is. He explained that it's primarily an Argentinian steakhouse and suggested returning to try the meat dishes. On our second visit we arrived at opening without a reservation. There was plenty of seating but since we didn't have a reservation we were seated at the bar. I didn't mind seated at the bar but the bar stools were extremely uncomfortable, almost torturous. Unfortunately, it was too hot to sit outside. Midway through dinner a machine, maybe a dishwasher, was turned on behind the bar. It was loud and the vibrations could be felt. This time we ordered the beet salad, cheese empanada, beef empanada, two filet mignons and the lamb shoulder. The beet salad was a disappointment. It consisted of large overly soft chunks of beets with what tasted like a basic grocery store salad dressing. For a restaurant of this caliber I expected more. Neither of us enjoyed the cheese empanada but we both liked the beef empanada. We also ordered two filet mignons cooked the same way. Both arrived more done than requested and one way more overcooked than the other. They were also on the salty side, though both were very tender. The lamb shoulder, which our server had already warned us about before we ordered, ended up being dry and tough. The chimichurri served alongside the savory dishes was also heavier on onions than I prefer. Overall, the service was excellent, and the complimentary leek soup and tres leches cake were truly outstanding. Unfortunately, despite two visits, the main dishes we ordered didn't live up to the restaurant's reputation for us.
