The food here is amazing! We were initially skeptical from all the perfect reviews, but Sam's Kitchen really deserves all the good ratings. Their garlic bread is the best we've ever had. Perfect bread consistency (not too hard or mushy) with a great garlic flavor all while not being too buttery. We had their fried calamari which is big enough for 4 people. All their pastas are made fresh! Their Fruitti di Mare was the best we've had in America. The sauce was flavorful and had a good consistency (not runny). The scallops, shrimp, and calamari were cooked well. We also had the veal with gnocchi. The veal and gnocchi were tender and had a nice lemony touch. Everything is worth the price! read more

The staff is so sweet and the food was delicious. Plus it's BYOB. Chicken parm was excellent-I actually do want to come back and try more stuff on the menu. I think my dining companion had the special and it had been given an enthusiastic thumbs up. Dessert was fairly mediocre and the coffee was good. Go for the pasta. I was looking at BYOB restaurant and my partner loves Italian food so when I came across Sam's kitchen and good reviews on yelp we decided to give it a try yesterday 4/10 and it does not disappoint!!!! It's too good to share! Haha but they deserve a good review. The restaurant is very intimate and cozy perfect for a date night!!! They already have the wine glasses ready for you and they provide wine openers. The food is phenomenal. Fresh and made to order. The menu online doesn't give it justice. The lobster ravioli was excellent. You can taste the natural ingredients. The owner was very attentive and very friendly. This place is a hidden gem! And definitely must try!! By far the BEST Italian food I have EVER had. And I'm not even a fan of Italian food normally. We're visiting from San Francisco and happened to stumble across this cozy family-owned restaurant while looking for a place to eat this evening and I'm so glad we decided to give it a try. The ambience is lovely, the family very hospitable and friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the lobster ravioli and was literally scraping up the last bits of sauce with my fork at the end of our meal. Definitely a first for me, it was that good!!!! The only thing I wish I'd known earlier is that it's a BYOB (beer/wine) place, and it looked like everyone there had brought their own bottle (or two) of wine. I love when a meal is so good I think about it days later. The chicken piccata was a great choice, although with all the wonderful options on the menu it wasn't an easy decision to make. The menu offers a selection of Italian style entrees including pasta, steak, chicken, and seafood options. My dinner was delicious with the perfect balance of lemon/caper flavoring and the pasta was noticeably fresh. My friends had the chicken marsala and both stated more than once how good their dinners were. The portions are perfect and all entrees priced on point. We began our meal with the caprese salad, in place of an appetizer, which we split between the three of us. We all commented on how much we preferred Sam's version of this popular salad prepared with the pesto sauce, rather than the traditional large basil leaves. Our food fest ended with a slice of both chocolate cake and cheesecake to share- so good! It's probably best to make a reservation as seating is limited. Sam's Kitchen fills up quickly during peak dining hours. They are open for dinner from 4pm-9pm (closed on Sundays). Tables are tightly packed, so private conversation may be a challenge. We met Suamy, one of the owners. She made a point to stop by our table to check on us and was very welcoming. Our server was excellent as well. Bluf: great food, great service, great prices! Previously I thought I would have to make the trek to north end to get amazing Italian food...but now I know I can just take a little walk down the street and get some of the best Italian food I've ever had! We went early in a Tuesday, around 5pm and were impressed to see a good showing of people already there. The hostess graciously seated us with the understanding that there was a reservation at 630. So if you plan on coming post 6pm, I def recommend trying to get a reservation!! The prices were way more reasonable than north end and the food is noticeably better - what a win for Woburn!!! read more

My husband and I tried Sam's Kitchen for the first time. We both thought the food was good; however, the service needs work. I am about the entire experience. Especially when you're paying a good amount of money for 2 entrees and a salad ($94ish with a modest tip - tip modest solely due to the service). Remember this does not include any alcohol as this is a byo beer and wine establishment. Suggestions I would have is to standardize what your front-of-the-house staff wears. Makes it a little more upscale in my opinion. While this is a miniscule point, I think it helps set a tone. My biggest problems with the entire experience is the lack of attention to the details. For example, clearing dishes when finished with a course (tables aren't that big); communicating the status of your food when customers that came in after you get their food well before you; and there should be no attitude when a customer asks. Don't know the name of the woman (no name tags. I think she is the lead or manager) but not only did she have an attitude and expressed it across the restaurant, she also came by the table and had an attitude when asking if everything was ok now?!! Made me feel uncomfortable. This is not intended to be an attack. Just things to address that to some customers makes or breaks whether they return. All the pieces need to work together. First visit to Sam's and it was amazing! My husband ordered the house special that evening which was rib eye with saffron polenta and broccoli rabe, superb. My sister ordered the seafood pasta special shrimp, scallops, lobster, again another superb dish. I ordered the shrimp scampi delicious. Appetizers shared were the caprese salad, to die for going to try and replicate and the calamari, all yum! Desert oh yes we had desert! Tiramisu and cannoli , this restaurant is as good and better than the north end. It is a Family owned restaurant and as our fantastic waitress let us know they will be moving to a larger space across from Roma's bakery. We are so fortunate to have a business like this that is rare, it's a family affair! We look forward to going again and if it is in their new location I really hope they keep their online reservation process of booking by table number. You can byob which made this a memorable experience. Our waitress, Denise, was happy, vibrant and eager to serve. It's a cute, little place and the service was fine, but the food was very mediocre to bad. For an appetizer, we split the calamari. It was absolutely terrible. It looked like it was something you got out of the frozen food section at your grocery store and was as rubbery as you'd expect something that looked like that to taste. No tentacles, just Ore-Ida onion ring size rings. I expect an Italian restaurant near Boston to use fresh squid and to tenderize it appropriately. For our entrees, I ordered the chicken picatta, my husband ordered the chicken carbonara, and our friend ordered the eggplant parmesan. The chicken was overcooked in both dishes and the sauces were bland for what should be pretty flavorful menu items. The pasta was homemade and it was decent. Our friend said his eggplant was "fine, nothing to write home about." For dessert, my husband and I split the cheesecake, which tasted like it had freezer burn. We expected this place to be much better than it was based on the reviews it's received, its prices, and the ambiance, so we were all pretty disappointed with our experience. read more

We had a fun family dinner. It was our last night in town and we made reservations for six people. We showed up with seven. No problem, they made it work. It's BYOB, so we brought a couple of nice bottles of wine and enjoyed a very very good meal. I had the osso bucco, one of the best ever. My wife had the fruit de mar and it was great. To start, you can bring your own beer and wine which is a lovely perk. The garlic bread is too die for. I usually start with getting the lobsta ravioli as an appetizer just because it's outstanding. My fav entree is the eggplant. I'm very fussy about ordering eggplant out because most places don't show the proper love and it's loaded with seeds. This was my second visit to Sam's and I'm just as amazed as my first visit. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. ***Review Update*** Sam's serves authentic North End Italian cuisine. It's been a solid 5-stars since day one and everytime we dine there, it gets better and better! The chef's specials never seem to disappoint and tonight was certainly no exception. My wife and I both agreed that tonight was one of the better culinary experiences we've had in quite some time. We both had the two Chef's specials of the evening: She had seared scallops and shrimp over homemade pesto gnocchi topped with a generous slice of prosciutto. I had the veal rack (which has only been offered for the past three weeks) grilled to a perfect medium rare accompanied with homemade corn polenta and fresh steamed broccoli rabe. This restaurant is on par with the Michelin rated restaurants in it's category. Highly recommend a reservation. BYOB wine and beer only. Wine bottle openers provided for use.
