Every 5-10 minutes a new dish would arrive, which made the whole meal feel like a fun, festive experience. No long waits, no awkward gaps, just great food flowing steadily to the table. The Pan de Casa and Albondigas were the clear crowd favorites. My parents are in their 60s and adventurous eaters, and they were absolutely blown away. So I visited T'ahpas many years ago - date night dinner, left the kids at home & wanted adult food and Tapas were becoming all the rage at the time. Read good reviews, got there, small place, quaint, really good atmosphere, we began ordering food and OMG did we order sooo much, we liked a few things so much we ordered multiple plates, Im talking total fat kid night... Then we are sitting there and it was later at night so the place was empty and instantly I FREEZE - My BF at the time looked at me and noticed panic, he knew exactly what I saw from my reaction - there was a mouse in the dining room, now listen, I GET IT.. All restaurants have them, I wasnt even grossed out like that, THEY ARE MY BIGGEST fear in life, like if someone said Heres a million dollars be in a room with a mouse, I would have to pass! That scared, I dont know why - just am!!! So I exhaled and sat there... it started to run closer, it then disappeared and I slowly was able to unclench and then it came back like 20 mins later, this mouse was ballsy, like there are people walking around in & out and I just couldnt anymore. We got the bill and left, and I told many people and they said I should have complained on the spot but that just isnt me... Im just mad because the Food was GOOOOOOOD... Overall great meal at T'ahpas 529! This restaurant has a cozy and warm vibe that's so inviting as soon as you walk in. We didn't have a reservation and were seated quickly, which was great. For our shared plates, we went with the patatas bravas, paella alicante, and costillas de cordero. All the dishes were really good - the paella was our favorite because it was packed with seafood and flavor. I like the patatas bravas as well but wish there was more of the salsa. I enjoyed the meal a lot but it was a bit expensive for only ordering 3 dishes and a mocktail. It is a great option still if you are looking for a restaurant in the Melrose area! read more

Eh, this is certainly not my first tapas experience, and I've enjoyed some really great tapas in venues ranging from small bars to nice restaurants both in the US and abroad. This is not one of them. First, the good the vibe, the service, and the staff was excellent. The food was the biggest disappointment. The lamb had no taste and was not seasoned very well, the shrimp had no garlic taste, and was not seasoned very well, the potatoes were decent, but the oil needs to be changed more frequent. Bella had the chicken empanadas and loved them. I had a piece I had a bone in it. I told the manager about it and handed it to her. Her comment that it was strange because they broil their own chicken and it's boneless was strange to me.. Bella loved the empanada I did not. Our overall experience here was BAD. Don't get me wrong we had a wonderful server who took great care of us, but that's where all the good ends. To start, I was roasting in there, it was at least 100° in the dining area. And the food was absolutely horrible. The shrimps were barely the size of my thumb with minimal seasoning and the only gave us 5 for the price of $17. Next we had the mussels which were disgusting. They were a 50/50 combo of bland and fishy. Lastly the grilled calamari was huge letdown. Terrible.. it was clearly frozen and extremely chewy and rubbery. I feel like it's my job to call out beautiful things when I see them. I went during happy hour and got the "Individual Charcuterie Board" and omg what a thing of beauty. I have to laugh that they think this is meant for one person, as it is really suitable for 2-3. They have a good selection on their happy hour menu. I would highly recommend this place. I've enjoyed several things on their menu and everything has been delicious. This place is great if you're someone like me who experiments with low-carb diets. It's a cool vibe. This is such a cute tapas place in Melrose. Perfect for a casual night or a date night. They have a pretty impressive bar and wine list. This was my second time at T'ahpas. Their menu is exactly what you would find in Barcelona. This time I was dining alone on a Wednesday night so I took a seat at the bar. I got the patatas bravas (classic), sirloin steak, and a queso board. The potato's were hot and crispy. The steak was amazing, smothered in garlic, perfect touch of cream. Great tapas place in Melrose MA, just off the Melrose Highlands commuter rail stop. We enjoyed dipping the focaccia bread into the spicy oil from the gambas. We also got the goat cheese balls in honey, crispy cauliflower and seafood paella. Everything came out quickly (except of course the paella which takes time to cook- so we asked to put that order in first while we perused the rest of the menu). Churros were great too. Still better priced than some of the spots in Boston. I feel like the flavors of the tapas here start to blend similarly, however I wish they stuck with serving more traditional Spanish tapas. Horrible mamagement. I was charged $51 twice for a reservation cancelation fee even though I did attend the reservation. I tried calling multiple times and every time was told that there was nobody at the restaraunt who could help and I would need to wait to get a call back from a manager. It took two weeks for me to hear back, only to be told that they were looking into it and had no updates for me. After another two weeks of waiting, I tried calling back multiple times and and never heard back! After two months I finally had to submit a dispute with my credit card company. Food was decent, but unless you want to risk getting charged a $102 cancelation fee for a reservation you did attend, then I would highly recommend going somewhere else! read more

I was excited to try this tapas place from the Yelp reviews but ended up disappointed with the food quality at this place. The chicken empanadas were crispy on the outside (which I love!) but the shredded chicken tasted a bit off. I can't describe it exactly but it reminded me of chicken that had been cooked for a while and then refried in not so fresh oil. Neither of us could eat it. The Brussels sprouts and Spanish tortilla were ok. Nothing to write home about. The staff was very nice and friendly. This used to be one of my favorite places but it has gone so downhill it's pathetic. The food is decent BUT and this is a big but. The price is absurd. I get that the whole point is small portions but they are supposed to be shared by the table and it was not nearly enough for that. We have to order two or three plates to get my table of four to get one single bite. I had a complaint about having our food being burned and the owner came up to our table and she was incredibly rude telling me it wasent the chefs fault my meatball was so burnt it was pure black. I refuse to support a restaurant we're the owners don't care about there customers and are rude to them. I'm a big fan of Spanish food and this really missed the mark. On top of that, the service was terrible. Only small inconvenience is that one has to loop around the block again from the outdoor area to the front of restaurant in order to use the restroom. Food: - the whiskey in Old Fashion is very smooth, my friend highly recommended it and it didn't disappoint. - Patata Bravas was ON POINT -- soooo good! - Burrata was not quite oozy as expected, but the plate was great overall with the flavor combo. - the waffle in the Chicken & Waffle a bit too soggy, but appreciate the savory flavors. - Churrasquisto would be the biggest letdown in the meal by comparison -- it was simply too well-done for quality beef, even at medium. Maybe it's a cultural difference in cuisines, but please don't do beef medium and up. If this beef really is Wagyu, then all I can say is that I'm sorry the cow sacrificed its life to become this. *sad face* Despite the hiccups, it was a fantastic meal overall. I would eat those empanadas for 48 days straight if that was an acceptable thing to do. (Someone please tell me that it is!) Came here last night for a nice romantic date night. We have been here a few times over the years and it is never a disappointment. We had many dishes and all were flavorful, unique, and tasty. The tomato bread was simple and light and fresh. The chorizo-stuffed mushrooms had the perfect kick. The charred cauliflower was almost too mild in taste but it was complex and the chili built subtly. The braised short ribs were our faves as it was so tender and the sauce was umami bomb. The burrata salad was good but wished it had more dressing. The mussels were the biggest I had ever seen and easily could have made a meal of just those lol. Unfortunately, the octopus was a huge miss. So overwhelming with its seasoning that we had one bit and that is all. And it was slightly overcooked. I've ordered take out from here before, but my first dine in experience was much better. I came on a Friday night and it was fairly packed. Fortunately, we had a reservation (highly recommend getting a reservation!). This place abides by the COVID-19 safety precautions so I felt safe eating here. All the tables were either separated by plexiglass dividers or at least 6 feet apart. My waitstaff were very attentive. We never had empty plates piling up at the table or ran out of water. Food was reasonably priced so we were able to try a good number of dishes. Here are my food reviews, ranked from most favorite to least favorite: Almejas ($13) Generous portion of clams cooked in delicious tomato sauce and pieces of smoked bacon. The smoked bacon was a welcoming addition. My only wish is that this dish came with bread to soak up all that tasty sauce! Churrasquito ($13) Perfectly cooked skirt steak so tender that it cuts like butter. The chimichurri sauce was flavorful and tangy so it paired well with the steak. Patatas Bravas ($8) Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The bravas sauce gave the potatoes just the right amount of heat so it's not too spicy. Hongos Rellenos ($7) Mushrooms stuffed with chorizo, cheese, and breadcrumbs. They tasted a lot better than they looked. Very flavorful and the brie cheese made them creamy and decadent. Pez Espada ($15) Pan seared halibut with a mixed vegetables in a sherry wine sauce. If you like strong sherry wine sauce, you would like this. It was personally too alcoholic for my taste, but my friend liked it. Fish was cooked well though so I ate the part of the fish that didn't touch the sauce. Homemade Bread Knots ($4.95) We got this originally to dip into the tomato sauce from the clams dish. She had no idea what type of rums the bar offers and then proceeded to charge us $15 for a Bacardi and coke! The food quality was horrible. The beef short ribs were so tough that you couldn't eat it. The vegetables weren't cooked. We sent it back and the waitress delivered the bill after that without asking if we wanted anything else. She never cleared the plates or refilled water. I've been coming to this little spot for over 2 years now. And I must say the consistency is spot on. They give generous amounts a food and the price of alcohol is about the same as you would find anywhere. They are always kind and are always attentive to the needs of the customer. I always get the paella alisante which is the best thing they have in my opinion where it's a good portion in size and fresh seafood that compliments its savory nature. The pan de casa is always a great starter with olive oil. Service - our server was pleasant, alas didn't really listen as we told her we wanted to enjoy the wine and figure out what to order. Again, mostly empty dining room (and bar), she returned 2minutes later. After taking the food order and a 2nd glass of wine, she was not to be seen for a long time (once again - barely 20% capacity and plenty of staff). This is a basic service training issue. Food - completely disappointing - gambas al ajillo (classic shrimp tapa) - 5 of the smallest shrimp imaginable (and no accompanying bread); brussels sprouts were charred to raw, bacon was nice, but the 'sweet' in the 'sweet & sour' was like a syrup bath; chicken empanadas were ghosts of their previous selves - no flavor, dry, and appeared to be a pasta dough deep fried (since when?); mushroom strudel ("A creamy medley of mushrooms wrapped in crispy tunisian pastry, served w/ arugula alioli"). Apparently an eggroll wrapper is now 'crispy tunisian pastry', and 'creamy' means potato puree with a whisper of mushroom. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates, croquetas, patatas bravas, and garlic shrimp. Everything except the potatoes came out super fast and were lukewarm so they weren't made to order or even reheated right. T'ahpas 529 has outstanding food and exceptional service. My wife and I had dinner there this evening. However, I object to their practice of adding a 4% " Kitchen Appreciation" fee to the bill. This "fee" covers both food prepared in the kitchen, as well as the cost of alcohol served by our bartender. Why take this approach? Why not work this 4% extra fee into the price of the menu items? T'ahpas 529 is not unique in this practice, but in my estimation, it's still wrong. I will always respond by reducing my gratuity to the server ( regardless of the quality of the service ) by 4%. I strongly encourage them to terminate this practice going forward. read more

I have followed them on social media, watching their dreams come to fruition, and tonight I got to dine in their restaurant. The place is going backwards. Waitress tonight had no experience or knowledge whatsoever. What an embarrassment to the restaurant. Zero knowledge about the wines, and did not even offer to ask someone for help. Same for items on the menu. She was informed about allergies (eggplant specifically), yet she took an order of "Hummus" platter, and it turned out to have eggplant. So basically it was not hummus, it was baba ghanoush. And when she was asked if there was eggplant on the platter, she said this has eggplant (pointing to the wrong item). Please train your servers. First time here was great! The second experience we had was not so great. We had a reservation for 8pm(not knowing close was at 9pm, maybe our fault). When our friends arrived 4 of us total the server was nice and did note that the kitchen closed at 9 so she asked if we'd like to start getting some apps in right away. We ordered all our food then no problem. The server said we could order drinks and dessert after the kitchen closed as they will serve drinks until we leave. Once we started to finish our food around 9pm, the server brought a dessert menu over. She came back around and we ordered drinks and dessert. She let us know they couldn't do it as it was past 9pm. Unsure the purpose of dropped the menu then. We were finishing our wine and the server began to bus the table, which is standard no problem. It got to a point that she was wiping down spots between our glasses which made it obvious she was rushing us out. At this point it was only 9:10-9:15. Obviously we all noticed so we decided to leave. When we stood up I saw the server gesture to another staff member to show she got us to leave. If the food wasn't good I would have given this a 1 star. The service is half of the experience and this was sub par. read more

Super tasty tapas and a great drink list- what more could you ask for? From what I can remember (we ordered a ton) we loved the chicken wings, brussel sprouts, shishito peppers and these little cheesy ham things. I can't wait to come back! read more
