We can't say enough about this place, it's delicious and meets our expectations every time! We've just recently gone for brunch and for back to back Sundays the food was delicious! We ordered the prime rib omelette and fried chicken biscuits and gravy on our first visit and OH MY, both were so good! Stopped by Sam's on a whim this evening and were more than pleased with everything. From the service to the food, our 1st experience has ensured that we will definitely return and that we've found a new go-to for quality food. We ordered the fried green tomatoes to start. They were sliced to the perfect thickness and fried to a beautiful golden brown. They sat atop what I believe was a red pepper coulis and were garnished with goat cheese. The combination made for beautiful flavor. My boyfriend ordered the lobster bisque, which is his favorite, and said that the bisque alone was well worth the trip. He also ordered the gyro sandwich, while I had the gyro dinner. The meat was superb! Amazing flavor and exceptionally tender. You can choose from fries or country potatoes. Trust me, get the country potatoes. They are nothing short of amazing. Sam came over to our table and introduced himself. He told us about the place and made us feel very welcome. The calamari was seasoned and fried to perfection... just like the founder I tried previously. I also got the chicken gyro plate with yellow rice and a salad... everything was delicious. From the moment you walk in and from the moment you leave this place will have you very happy that you made a great decision to come and eat there. I've eaten here enough times to know when Sam is and isn't in the kitchen and the other day, he wasn't. My gyro was lacking in all the fillings and the country potatoes were so hard and dry that my gums are still sore from trying to eat them. The pita wasn't fresh nor was the lettuce. When I'm out for a meal, I come to expect consistency in food and service and found neither at Sam's on Main the other day. Service was 2 stars or less as well due to the 'care less' attitude of our server. Not sure if she could have been any more laid back than she was. We love this place. Food is delicious. I always seem to get the fish, either as a dinner or on a sandwich. Going to have to try other selections. Fried Green Tomatoes are a must, Knockout Shrimp and the Calamari appetizers and I love the Beet and Goat Salad (and I can get a half order). I'd love to give this restaurant raving reviews but yet again, I showed up but no one else did. The restaurant is supposed to be open (Tuesday at 7pm) but the lights are off and the doors locked. No sign on the front either so I don't know if the place is permanently closed or just for today. The first time we tried to dine here we showed up for dinner on Sunday (they closed at 3pm). I wish I could give Sam's six stars. I can't say enough good things about it. My and I have been eating there about once a week since they opened. We have yet to have a bad meal. Our favorite is the fried flounder platter, but everything else is excellent as well. I'm trying to make my way through the whole menu. The staff are wonderful people, some of which are Sam's family. You can sometimes wait a bit for your food, but that's just because everything is made fresh and to order. Highlights are the fried flounder, gyro platter, and the lamb sauté. --FOOD POISONING-- I got my usual flounder sandwich a few months back. Two hours later my body was kicking everything out. Threw up about 30 times, last half was all blood. Completely dehydrated and cramping up, my side was in extreme pain and it became to be too painful to take full breathes. I started to become delirious and decided it was time to go to the ER. Took all night but they fixed me up. Doctor told me if I was better the next day it was food poisoning but if it took a few days then it was a stomach bug. Next day was not sick at all, just sore. I went and talked to Sam and he was very open to listening, even apologizing for almost killing me. He asked me to send him the hospital information. Sent the bills over once they came in and didn't hear back. Ended up calling him and his tone was completely different. Told me food poisoning takes 8 hours and so it couldn't have been that. Google search shows it takes 2-3 hours. Told me nobody else reported getting sick that night, which really only shows it was mishandle in his restaurant and not sent to him contaminated. Food poisoning is really hard to prove in court and I'm not the suing type, so paid for it out of my own pocket. Really expensive and painful experience from Sams. He didn't even have the decency to comp the meal. Don't think he is a bad person, just negligent and not a stand up guy. And frozen baklava? Chump move! read more
