The older waitress that was serving sodas/teas was rude when I asked where were the plates; she did not stop to show me,but kept walking and said that the plates were over there in the middle. O-kay. I found the plates. The selection of the buffet was minimal. Here is what I saw on the lunch buffet: fried chicken( only big dry breasts left- seasoned ok.Would have liked a thigh or wing), bbq chicken, chicken fried steak(pretty good)'beef brisket(pretty good),link sausage(pretty good,but spicy), mashed potatoes,spinach(pretty good),green beans,corn,soups,fried okra (pretty good), salad bar with alot of toppings and dressing. I had ranch dressing and it was salty. The dessert area had pies in the refrigerated cabinet and on the line were banana pudding(the texture was goopy-hated it), peach cobbler(very runny and too sweet) and What looked like maybe bread pudding? That was okay. They brought you either corn bread or bread to the table. We received the corn bread.That was crumbly,but okay because that is how I lie my cornbread. Our cups were never empty and our server always check on us. You also could order from the menu, but we were told about this buffet by a fellow diner from another restaurant we eat at to try this buffet. We drove about 1 hour (road trip) to go check it out. II was not worth the trip. The restaurant had a gift shop in the front, which was a nice touch. You pay for your meal and the gift shop and the cashier was not very friendly. The restroom was clean, but smelled "pipey" or of sewage and poopy due to no vent or air circulation in there. Will not be back. read more

Decided on the buffet to get a taste of all they do best. And they do best at al lot. Loved the cat fish, light and crisp breading and perfectly seasoned. If you had anyone else's mash potatoes you've had theirs but the white cream gravy sets this apart and brings it to level 10. Hohum on the squash and green beans, but I'd rather go hum than overboard on seasoning. You can always had but can't take away. Chicken fried steak was a little disappointing, breading was not crisp although the steak was tender. I'll give a lot of leeway as I had buffet CFS and it could have been sitting for awhile. But you just put that cream gravy on it and everything is fixed You are served with a massive loaf of fresh baked bread and butter, carb lovers will go into a bliss filled comatose on the size of that loaf. They have an all you can eat buffet but we decided to order off of the menu The Chicken Fried Steak was good, a light batter and well seasoned, gravy on the side, this controls my gravy to meat ratio.. lol the hash browns were hot and crisp, eggs needed some seasoning. The biscuits were fluffy, but I think they may have been pre-made, frozen ones.. My wife had the same, but she had grits, they were hot and buttery, but not seasoned well. Just don't know what it is with restaurants, you have to season the grits while cooking them, not after. all in all a good breakfast, I can see why it is a local favorite. read more

Me and my wife went in and was seated by the hostess. The hostess brought our drinks and menus. We decided to eat the buffet so we went and got our plates. After finishing the first plate and getting more I was out of drink. At this point we have been there for 25 to 30 minutes. We still have not had a waitress at our table. Menus still on table. No napkins or bread as of yet. Finally a waitress sees my drink empty and refilled it then said oh this is my table I'm sorry. She had been sitting at a table next to us the whole time. So our waitress showed up at our table after we were finished . This is around 9 pm they do not close until 10 pm. They were not refilling the food on the buffet. How is it an all you can eat if you do not have it? This place gets worse every day due to new management. read more

Took a very long time to get our food the server gave us several excuses as to why it was taking so long. However once we did get out food it wasn't served as we order it. The meat was soaked in barbecue sauce which was suppose to be served on the side so we weren't satisfied with our meal. Really can't say if the meat was good or not because all we could taste was the sauce. The side dishes were completely cold assuming sitting there waiting for meat to get done. Made a stop at Sam's recently with friends on our way home from Dallas. It was recommended by others in the car and I guess it was ok. I'm giving all 3 stars of this review to the delicious fried catfish I had. Everything else was just ok. Entree and side selection seemed low compared to other buffets I've visited. Service was also kinda slow for a restaurant where the food is already cooked. It was also pretty loud inside, but a school basketball team had stopped in for supper. I came here on my way to Dallas and the food was worth the two and a half hour drive we made from Houston to get there! Everything tasted fresh and like it was homemade. I usually can't finish my second plate at buffets, but I was able to eat both of my plates here. To start off they bring you a warm loaf of bread and butter. Probably so you eat less at the buffet, but I'm not complaining! The bread was delicious. They have a good selection of meats and sides. I had brisket, sausage, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and corn. And I also tried the chocolate pie which was meh. For 3 generations stopping at Sam's for a meal was a treat we all grew up doing. Sams was the spot also for meeting up with family between Houston and Dallas. Always delicious , always courteous and always very clean . 10 stars! It has been a few since we have made this drive and we were so excited to plan our Sunday dinner stop at Sam's. We were surprised at dinner time it was very empty . We found the host team as friendly and welcoming as always . Very clean restaurant and wait staff very attentive . The buffet was not the same . Lovely salad bar for sure. The dinner entrees had no flavor . The famous fried chicken was dried out and when I asked our attendant if we could get fresh fried chicken , she said they were not making anymore that night. The vegetable casseroles were also dried out and actually looked burnt . Ended up eating one piece of dried out chicken , carrots and corn and the mashed potatoes . Those sides were okay . The brisket was covered in a greasy sauce or something . Could not eat it . Finished the buffet meal with their homemade pie which was okay ( use to be the best in Texas) . Will say the peach cobbler was good . Sadly , we understand why Sam's was not busy at dinner time now. This is a pretty neat restaurant, it also has a gift shop. It's roughly halfway between Dallas and Houston so we decided to give it a try since we say the billboards and that they had good reviews on yelp. Their dining area is quite big, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the most popular restaurant in the Fairfield area. They have a buffet with lot's of veggie options and sides plus fried chicken, smoked turkey and some meats. I didn't see too much that appealed to me so I ordered from their "small plate" section which was more than enough food for me. I got the BBQ turkey with corn and mashed potatoes. The turkey was good, I couldn't tell how it was cooked. The bbq sauce was a little overpowering so I wasn't sure if it was smoked or not. The corn and mashed potatoes were ok, nothing special about it. I also tried their pecan pie, I didn't think it was great. I guess I like my pecan pie a little differently. We have been coming here for years and this is the first time in 15 years that they didn't let us come in to eat. They used to serve up till 9 pm and we arrived at 8:20pm to have them tell us they are closed. The sign should have said closes at 8 pm. We used to eat here all the time when I was growing up, in town visiting family. Well, 29 years later, as an adult, I can say the food is still great! I got the small plate chicken fried steak and the serving was huge! The steak was tender, no gristle at all. My spouse got the buffet and said all was great there. Wife and I decided to go to Sam's a couple of weekends ago, and finally getting a chance to review it. For the most part, the food tasted pretty good. I'm not sure if they changed some recipes, but the fried chicken wasn't as good as it usually is. Maybe a bad day? Not too sure but when the fried chicken is usually my favorite part, so that leads to the trip being somewhat disappointing. However, I feel the need to go out of my way with praising our waiter during our trip to Sam's. I believe his name was Nate. (sorry if that's wrong, I'm terrible with names) Nate went out of his way to make sure our experience was perfect. Never had a glass get less than half full, always had some famous Sam's bread to eat, and just was friendly as could be. I made sure to go out of my way to thank that man. Overall, Sam's is a must place to visit. And if you can get someone as good as Nate to take care of you, then you'll have a great time! read more

We were very disappointed in the breakfast buffet this morning. We have been coming here several years, but not ever again. The buffet is not being serviced very well, there were no eggs, hash browns or syrup, the chicken fried steak was so full of fillers that it was inedible. They did put more eggs out after about 10 minutes, but never did refill the hash browns the 45 minutes we were there. Lost 2 loyal customers & friends. read more

Stopped by traveling back to Houston with me family. Was shocked at how many cars were there at 2pm. Everything was fresh, chicken was crispy, Mac n cheese was delicious. The breading on the fried stuff could have used some more seasoning, salt and it would have been just awesome. But several things were lacking basic salt. Brisket was pretty good too. Servers were nice, tidy, quick. The building is dated BUT was clean and fast paced. Family friendly atmosphere, warm and welcoming. They have a buffet style eating and also menus if you are craving something special. The restaurant is adjacent to their gift shop. We arrived with high expectations and it's nice to say that it nearly met them. Will be back but hopefully they'll remember the salt next time. read more
