They were formerly known as "Sam's Seafood Grill" but have now rebranded as "AJ's Seafood Chicken & Grill". It seems as if they have new staff as well. However, one employee single-handedly ruined the reputation of this establishment for me. My mother and I have frequented this place for about a year now. They've always had phenomenal customer service and food. However, yesterday when we pulled up to the drive-thru, we were immediately assaulted by the strongest weed scent that we have ever smelled off of one singular person before. In layman terms, the drive-thru worker stank. Badly. When my mother points out how overwhelming the aroma of weed is, instead of being apologetic, the drive-thru worker immediately gets defensive (as all junkies in denial do) and proceeds to call my mom and I quote a "f*ckin idiot". The worker also claimed that she had cancer and was using the herb for medicinal reasons. As paying customers, we have every right to a refund and yet this woman initially denied me one, claiming that they "didn't do" refunds. To make matters worse, she took my card to the back of the restaurant instead of returning it to me, which I did not appreciate at all, as I have no way of knowing whether she took a quick snapshot or not. Magically, she could suddenly do refunds when I threatened to call police. She also mentioned that she would make up some fabrication to the police and accuse us of trespassing when, in actuality, we were simply trying to order. As far as the cancer claim, due to her willingness to lie about not being able to give me a refund and about us "trespassing", I am not fully convinced that this woman is not just another pothead lying to justify her addiction. Arrived on 3/27/25 around 5:45pm. Placed our order with the cashier for Calamari rings, fried liver meal, and fried oyster meal. There was maybe 3 other couples in the building. The cashier was busy on her phone while taking our order. Order came up, big surprise, she had punched in gizzards instead of livers. My husband went back told them he ordered livers not gizzards. They apologized and told him to take the gizzards and would correct it. (Doesnt eat gizzards but whatever) The man then approached us and said they dont have any livers and wanted to know if my husband wanted his money back or something else. We took the money back. The calamari was rubbery so bad I couldnt eat it. The oysters tasted off. ALL of the food was so salty. I will not return to this establishment. read more

I just have to say, the Nine Mile Road location is far better than this location. I have visited this site twice and both times paled in comparison to their sister site across town. The first time here I tried to describe what I wanted and ended up with something completely different. This trip I showed the cashier a picture from my Nine Mile Road Yelp review of the garlic shrimp scampi combo, he said he knew what I wanted and rang me up. When I received my dinner I was very disappointed. There was virtually no sauce. It looked like seasoned steamed shrimp alongside rice and beans. It was that sauce at the other location that made the dish so good. The rice and beans were fine, but the shrimp was sub-par... So bummer! This site is typically clean with well stocked tableware and napkins. It's much closer to where I stay, which is why I've been here multiple times. In the future I'll plan to make the drive to Nine Mile if I want the shrimp. read more

I absolutely love how fast they prepare your food and it still tastes so fresh. I've had the catfish meal, catfish is fried to perfection. The gyro sandwiches are really good. The meat is fresh. Today we got the shrimp pasta. Oh my goodness this plate is DELICIOUS!!! The service is always fast and the workers are courteous and patient. Deserts too red velvet cake The snow crab was expensive here not with it because they weren't even big clusters . Instead I ordered the shrimp fettuccine. $13.99 I enjoyed every bit of it with the fresh butter roll and fresh corn definitely hit the spot. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly, wow I could've ate more of those by itself. I tasted sum of the shrimp rice bowl $10.99 the onions, bell peppers, black beans , rice ingredients was dancing in my mouth bursting with flavor with the perfectly grilled shrimp seasoned to perfection. It only was a 15min wait to get our food. There was a couple in there eating as well. Not bust at all, but a few people came in to pick up orders. There is another location Bradenton fl. too. After a very long day of work, we ordered delivery from the Mobile Hwy location. I had no way of going to get food so delivery was the only option. The order was delivered (Door Dash), and it was wrong. I called the restaurant, and the man I spoke with read the order back to me, but that is not what was delivered. He told me I could bring it back to fix it. I told him that wasn't an option, and there was a reason we had it delivered. He told me to call Door Dash back. It wasn't Door Dash's mistake. If I called them back, I would have to wait on another order, and possibly be last on their route as they were delivering other meals. At the very least he could have offered to give me a break on the price. He didn't. This was wasted money as the part of the wrong food delivered couldn't be eaten, and we don't have money to waste. We won't be back. The customer service really is lacking. read more

First time in I ordered the "cuban sandwich". It was an okay sandwich but it was def not a Cuban. It was Ham, cheese, LTM in a press. A cuban has... ham, swiss, pulled pork, long sliced dill pickles and mustard, pressed period! Plus the place looked like the cleaning lady was out that day. They got our order wrong, I think due to language problems. We ordered a hamburger plus a seafood plate: one large piece of fish--Basa--(my choice) and many--I didn't count, but probably between 8-10, very very large (jumbo +) shrimp. The burger looked a little larger than most and was an average tasting burger. The seafood plate, however, was excellent! Fish was fresh as was the shrimp. It was so incredibly good, I may be tempted to have it again and again and again! It was drive-in/take out, which was very convenient for us. We have had dinner a lot since the business took over a fairly new Krystal store. I wholeheartedly recommend Sam's Seafood & Grill on Mobile Hwy.! Their rice bowls are SO GOOD! This restaurant just opened up. The 10 boneless wings were cooked perfectly. The mild sauce was a wet sauce that was just right. The salad was fresh and a great side. The owner they told me they make the gyro meat in house, so that is what I will try next time. The restaurant was very clean. If I had one issue, I would recommend not having the staff take their breaks out in the dining area. Other than that, wonderful experience! 5 of 5 stars! read more

I just had a horrible experience at Sam's Seafood and Grill on Nine Mile Road, our first and last visit. Now, I WILL say my food was delicious. (My husband wasn't at all impressed with his! He said his shrimp wasn't fresh and his cocktail sauce was partially frozen.) HOWEVER, as I said, we will never go back. Get this: I ordered a crab leg dinner that comes with potatoes, a roll and a biscuit (or cornbread or something) and requested extra butter. When my meal came (quite a while after my husband's was served), there was no roll, no biscuit, no butter. I didn't want the bread anyway, so that really didn't bother me. But they ALSO didn't bring me anything whatsoever to crack open the crab legs with. I asked, "Would you bring me extra butter please and some crackers for the crab?" "Oh, we don't serve crackers," (!!!) and she immediately ran off. When she came back, she just had one very small tub of semi-melted butter for the crab. I asked, with hand motions this time, "Can I have something to crack open the crab legs with?" She replied, "No. We don't have anything," turned her back and sped away. I called after her, "How am I supposed to --- ???" but she had turned her back on me and ignored me. (And the fork was plastic.) Great little restaurant. It's drive thru or eat inside. Order at counter. Styrofoam plates, plastic forks, here's your styrofoam cup to get your own cola or tea. Visited Sam's this evening. Called in our order and since drive-thru was slammed, I went inside to pick it up. Ordered chicken livers and gizzards as well as fries...$28.00. Was absolutely Horrible!!! Both orders were stone cold. The livers were fried almost black and hard as a rock. The gizzards had to come from some tiny chickens and were fried so hard they were inedible. Fries were cold but otherwise okay. Certainly not what we expected. Not sure we will try again. read more
